Samsung s7 edge tmobile music freedom question - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this but the free unlimitedmusic streaming seems to be counting against my high speed data. I checked my tmobile app and pandora shows 6mb of data used today(1st day of billing cycle) and my phone shows 56mb of data used today by Pandora.
I am new to tmobile so wondering if I am missing something here? Are the ad's being counted against my LTE data bucket? Thanks!

interesting question....I'm sure you could call T-Mobile support and ask them to track your data usage

It depends what plan you are on. I have the unlimited txt talk and 1gb lte and stream music everyday with soundcloud, beatport, and youtube. I have had no issues with these. Normally tmobile sends you a txt when you are close to your limit.

The built in meter doesn't differentiate the data usage. Also advertising and anything not streaming related like album art, and lyrics do count against your data albeit should only be like 50MB a month depending how often you leave it on.

I am going to keep monitoring it and see what it is towards the end of the month. Right now Samsung milk music is showing 20mb used on my phone usage screen 2nd day billing cycle and tmobile app has 15mb....there is no way 15mb could be from album art ads etc etc right?
Whats weird is I used Pandora mainly and my phone reads 60mb and yesterday tmobile app showed 5mb and today it isn't even on list.

You'd be surprised how. You are looking at them individually and not collectively. All that stuff isn't downloaded one at a time, but collectively.

Internet/Timescape Questions

Hi, this is my first post here so be kind
Tomorrow, I will be a proud (hopefully) owner of an x10, and the plan I am going on allows either 250 or 500mb Internet a month, not sure which one. I have some questions about Timescape:
1. How much data does Timescape use? - updating, opening tiles etc.
2. Can you set Timescape to update only when you open it?
Next two are just other questions:
3. Does Mediascape use the Internet, for online photos, or does it take them from Timescape?
4. How much data would be used if I left 3G on throughout the day?
Thank you if anyone has answers to these questions.
- a very excited, but confused x10 buyer.
wow, those are some tough questions to answer.
and i don't think any of us can answer that for you.
data usage depends on the person.
you can however set timescape to never update until you launch it. but other than that, i have no idea how much data it uses.
mediascape will use some data but this depends on your setting. if you link your facebook account for example, you can view those pictures and i think that uses data.
i would suggest wifi access for your data needs and switch to 3G ONLY if you know you don't have wifi access available.
i've used over 2.7 gigs of data in my first month wth an android phone. i browse the web, youtube, emails, upload photos, twitter, facebook, qik, ustream, send mms and blog from my phone.
Hm, ok.
I don't currently have wi-fi access at home, but will be getting it pretty soon. From then, I will only use 3G outside of home, where no wi-fi is available. I'm thinking of 3G as a "last resort" almost.
Wow 2.7 gigs? I wouldn't be using my x10 for that much, just browsing, twitter and facebook really. I won't be spending very long on Youtube, maybe a few videos now and then. Thanks for the reply though!
Edit: just another question - does 3G come on once you open Internet, or is set to stay on all the time?
Hi generally if you've got 3G on.. it's on all the time from what I've seen - I've used.. and then stopped using.. and then started using again.... an app called juice defender, which switches off the APN (3G and 2G).. to save juice (and also data I suppose!)
Does it not use up data if it's kept on all the time though? Or is it only if you start using apps which use the Internet? Do any background tasks use data?
As you can tell, I'm very inquisitive.
I've seen other say that the phone still uses data when it's off.. but that's probably all of the various widgets and apps etc updating... Best thing I can suggest it to download a network traffic monitor and see what it shows you..
Firstly, if I were you now who is planning on buying a new phone, I would certainly wait for iPhone 4G or the Nexus two or Motorola Shadow. They may be all coming out this month. Just wait awhile for the comparison and you know you wouldn't want a phone that is with limited capabilities in Android 1.6.
Nexus two with guranteed update of OS, Motorola shadow with Android 2.2 and 4.3 inch screen, 4G with new OS and new processor. All these are music to my ears unlike the specifications of X10 which I think is a bit outdated.
BUT, unless you are planning to get a phone with Timescape, Mediascape which is obviously the X10, then I would respect your decision I've been using Mediascape often and I would not want to use PlayNow as the online service which requires data usage. Timescape will update itself when the categories such as Mail is being updated before you enter timescape. I don't suppose it uses data usage. But for social networking categories such as Facebook or Twitter, I've no idea. I don't use them.
I've currently used 800mb in one month, with web surfing as the main use of my local data usage. I can't even think of exceeding the 1GB mark, because I have been using my phone for web surfing, youtube videos, email, meebo, games that all require local data usage. I don't enable my 3G for one whole day as it consumes battery, but only enable it when I want to use it. So I suppose you can get a 1GB data usage plan to play safe
AND WOW 2.7 GIG?! Everyone in my family uses 3G network even at home and I still hold the record for 800mb usage in one month. But 2.7 GIG IS OMG?! I got 12GB free but I suppose I would use that much if I were to use Wifi-tethering with my new Nexus two or something. But I don't do these: upload photos, twitter, facebook, qik, ustream, send mms and blog from my phone. So maybe that requires like 2GIG of usage lolol.
Well I got the phone and I think it's amazing. It was about half charged when I opened it and it lasted until about 5 (bought it at 12). Charged it up fully just then. I love Mediascape, I'm thinking of deleting the accounts on Timescape as they seem to suck up data like a hoover. Earphones are very nice, very good quality. Downloaded a few apps so far, very nice. I'm ver please so far, let's hope that continues!
Oh, are there any "must-have" apps?

The specs of the X10, 1Ghz processor with 512MB of RAM, and 1GB of memory, 4 inch 480x854 display, and 8 megapixel camera is "outdated"??
I wanna live in your future, man!
I have donwload 2 Data monitors: 3G watchdog and NetCounter. 3g Watchdog tells me I've used 11 mb, NetCounter says 30mb :s I don't think I've gone anywhere near 30, all I've done is download about 6 apps, went on Timescape once (set update to never) and went on Facebook. Which is the more reliable?

3G Watchdog for sure counts only the 3G/2G data downloaded and uploaded and it works really well, so, in my opinion and my experience, you should trust 3G Watchdog.

LOL! That's the most witty comment I've seen in a while!!!
Well I decided to ring up 150 (which tells you how many minutes, texts etc you have left), and it said I have 403mb GPRS left? I really don't understand this. To make matters worse, I decided to delete a few apps which I thought might use the Internet, and deleted the Timescape account, and now the Internet won't even connect - it ticks when I click on it, but no signal comes up. Any help here? :S
The data usage will be because regularly telcos don't count actual data usage, but rather packets of data. So if you only use say, 15kb in one go, you'll be charged a full packet, which could be 100kb or more. Could be less too though. You'd have to speak to your carrier about packet data
Another problem for you, I'm hopeless. I seem to use a ridiculous amount of data whilst I'm using the Broswer or the Facebook app. So far today, I downloaded an app which wasn't large in size, and used the Facebook app for about 30 seconds. I've managed to use 2.18mb already, is this right?

Android Data Usage...

Can't believe I had a text from o2 stating I had used all my 500MB data in only two weeks...without hardly using the internet away from wifi, ok I have had my data and auto update on until now.
With Windows Mobile I never got close to the 500mb per month, why does Android use so much ?
Am I doing something wrong?

The majority of apps that you use with ANDROID run in the background and need this turned on for it to work.
If you want to minimise this impact go to the settings, wireless networks and change the background data option to off so that the apps cannot use this all the time. You usually have a constant connection to data when you have android.
This is from what I noticed having got a similar message from Vodafone, once I took the steps above then it stopped but I am arguing with Vodafone atm anyway as I signed an 'uncapped' contract, they are trying to screw me.
I had the same issue with t mobile, two months running I hit my 1gb limit and had my already speed limited access severely cut until next pay date. On t mobile though, if you buy an Android phone you automatically (or should) be put on a unrestricted speed 3gb plan, I sent them a few emails blagging I needed more data usage due to 'work' and they happily upgraded my allowances on speed and usage happily, I'd recommend trying the same, bit of advice though, try getting an email direct to o2s tech support rather than customer services, they usually just try and fob you off, best of luck!

Att using wifi data usage towards the allowed 2GB

I been connected to wifi for the past 3 hours. I got on my work computer and registered on ATT.com for an online account. Which at that time I noticed that I had only used 4mb of data. I then played with my phone for about 5-10 minutes while still on wifi. I then got back online and logged into my ATT account to sign up for the insurance and I just so happened to check the data and noticed that it was at 9mb...or something like that.
So basically ATT is using wifi data usage towards the allotted 2GB of data.
No. It doesn't update instantly, it takes a while. During that lag you probably used data.
What FLAC said. There is anywhere from a 2-8 hour lag on data usage being updated on the web. Same as call or text history, sometimes calls might even be 24 hours before showing up online.
Oh ok....thanks everyone. I was just a little worried.

Yeah, me especially. I've used 900MB over wifi. I've used about 6MB over network. I have a 200MB data plan.

[Q] Help—Phone using large amounts of data

I got a text from o2 on Sunday saying I'd used 80% of my data allowance—a huge amount since Tuesday!
I've disbaled data for now while I try and figure out what's gone wrong.
I checked the stats on the phone under network usage and it seems that 'Media' has been using the most (nothing else comes close). This has DRM Protected Content Storage, Download Manager, and Media Storage in the package.
I've been on the same ROM for ages (Rod's MIUI) and haven't installed any news apps recently…
Anyone have this problem before or know what's gone wrong??
Have you been using Pandora or another online radio app? Streaming movies?

Use Network Counter by mapeapps to get an idea of what is using data...
I use Google Listen Alot by the end of the month I used 2 GB minimum of data
SPB Mobile Manager will tell you which apps are download/uploading and how much
I've got an app called Monitor (it came with the ROM) that lists the apps and what they've used. Download Manager is listed as having used it all.
I haven't been streaming anything unusual no.
Does anyone know what Download Manager would be used by? I've disbaled it's 3G access and turned my data back on, I'll see how things go...

For me, a single 3 hour podcast ( I <3 listen) is 90+ meg. Add a little bit of twitter and facebook into the mix, 2G is easy to break in one billing cycle.
This is just silly now. I've disabled Download Manager with firewall but it's still using data, apps must be using it and my monitor isn't logging it as the app but that process.
I've had data turned off all day apart from a couple of times to check mail but I've just checked and I've somehow used over 50MB!
Can anyone help?
I think I've figured out what's happened if anyone is interested.
I've had the Android update alert popping up for ages now but I was waiting for Rod to update his ROM before I installed a new one. It's gone now so I'm guessing it's been trying to download the android update in the backgroud whenever I've had a signal.
Serves me right to not updating to a ROM that gets rid of the update alert I guess.
This is gonna be a fun month with no data allowance…
Are O2 that stringent about their data caps or are you a frequent abuser? It pisses me off no end that caps are even in place, especially on 'unlimited' plans, but when they get all pedantic it makes me rage!
FWIW, Vodafone have always been good to me if you're ever thinking of switching. And i abuse the hell out of my data allowance
I've used the full 500MB so I've turned data off, rather not face a large bill...
I've updated ROM from Rod's 2.5 to 2.9 as it had apparently removed the updater. I did this today, in the last few hours Media Storage has used 265MB (on wifi as I still have 3g disabled) even though I've been doing nothing.
Anybody have any clues as to what's going on? I've tried googling with no luck. I did see a couple of similar sounding things and mention of a patch to disable OTA updates... anybody know anything about it?

[Q] High Data Usage (Android OS)

I've been going over my data this month.
My android OS just hit 1.5gb. Its ridiculous. I turned off all google back up and any account sync.
I searched all through the internet for any solutions that may work but all fail.
Then i just did a test to find out what is causing the android os to raise.
I use my 4G and sometimes LTE depending on the area, while driving on my car listening to pandora.
So i'm skipping a few song on pandora, and what do you know. It raises at least 3mb per song skip.
Keep in mind, my phone is rooted, and has a few mod for unlimited skip for pandora.
But why does it use up all my android OS data when there is a separate section for pandora data?
I don't know why that is, but you should look into Opera max beta to conserve your limited data issues. Just google that up could be very useful. I never try it because I'm on unlimited:laugh:
I'm dealing with the same issue, vs980. Went thru 4gb in less than 2days! Verizon is working with me on this so that's cool, I'm on the grind trying to isolate the issue and they're running a report/ticket to try & help track it down. I use a ton of data monthly, but when i upped my plan 4gb and the next day i was over again i knew something had to be wrong. I'll post back when i figure out more...I'm on a mission!

I faced the same problem, issue was somewhat with auto backup of data, sync of app data & people details in google account,
BUT the main culprit in my case was uTorrent application.
Even though there was no torrent added to it, i didn't even opened it,
it was using 1GB data daily on WiFi and in data usage it was coming under Android OS usage. I uninstalled it, everything went back to normal.
So try to look for such apps which eat up your data in background, it may not be an error of android OS as such.
Hope this helps, Press THANKS if it did help you
Enjoy
Simple RSS was an absolute data hog all of a sudden as well....finally had to delete it.
