came from windows phone a couple of questions s7 edge - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hello, I made the switch cause of the lack of apps on WP8 so I got me a S7 Edge but I am finding a couple of things that I was able to do on my Lumia 830 but I cannot do on the S7 or I do not know how. If someone can help me out that will be great.
1 - in my wp8 I was able to do text to speech via my car Bluetooth. Meaning when someone text me, Cortana would ask me if I wanted to read my text, then reply. How can I turn this on with S7 edge?
2. I got my phone on Monday and installed an SD card, my first i downloaded was Waze and I had the option to move it to SD card. Then I got a firmware update on Tuesday and now any app I download I can no longer move any app to SD card. Is this something that was removed? I am now 50% used for my internal storage, how can I move apps to my SD card?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Phone won't hang up and...

Hello all, can I ask for suggestions on a couple of problems that I am experiencing with the universal? (On latest T-mob rom)
1. the phone crashes whenever I try to hang up at the end of a call (are T-mobile just cunningly trying to make me use up my minutes?!!)
2. every 10 minutes or so I get a notification that the SD card contains images and "what do I want to do about it"! I never remove the card, have always stored images in the root directory of the SD card, and this has never happened before so I don't know why it's been doing this for the last few days.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.
I am no expert - but on my xda2 my SD card can seem to lose connectivity quite often.
I wonder if your card reader, is losing connection to the card (dodgy reader?) then reconnecting - and thinks you have inserted the card.

[Q] Texts between android and w6.5?

Hey,
Sorry if this question has been answered before, had a quick search and couldn't see anything.
I've just got myself a HD2, and it came with W6.5 and a cyanogen gingerbread ROM on the SD card.
Now I think I'd like to just use android, however there are a couple of issues.
a) I've received some texts while on W6.5, and I can't seem to get android to find them? (tried getting texts from SIM but it says there aren't any)
b) I want it to boot directly into android if I'm going to use it, but the usb port on the HD2 is a little broken, which makes stuff rather difficult at times, including wanting to install stuff, should I just get a micro sd card reader and then put something like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732392
Directly on it?
Thanks
George
For the text message problem , try to move the texts from WM(Windows Mobile) to SIM memory , then boot in Android If that doesn't work , try putting your SIM in another phone , to see if the texts has moved . If it doesn't work , then there might be a problem with Android ...

Micro SD Card performance issues

I have recently purchased a Nokia 6 with the intention of using a "previously bought/used" SD card. It's an Emtec SD Card with the following specifications:
Class 10 UHS-I
Read Speed: up to 85MB/s
Write Speed: up to 16MB/s
Compatible with all devices supporting microSDHC and microSDXC standards!!
I Googled which was the best SD cards to use in these phones & the below came up as an option....
"How to choose a MicroSD card for Nokia 3, 5, 6, 8 Android Phones
nokiapoweruser/choose-microsd-card-nokia-android-phones
Nov 28, 2017 - You can get a Class 10 UHS-1 MicroSD cards with great transfer speeds. Nokia 3, 5, 6 support SD card up to 128 GB storage capacity while Nokia 8 supports up to 256 GB. Click on the links below for your market to check available UHS-1 cards on Amazon and choose one for your Nokia smartphone."
The problem I have is that if I format it as "internal" it says the SD card is slow......however, if I format it as "portable" there are no issues!!
I'd like it to be formatted as "internal" because it then allows ALL apps to be moved to the SD card.
So if anyone has an idea as to why this is happening & how it can be prevented.....I'd certainly love to hear your replies
Thank you in advance
This is may caused by encryption of the SD card but I am no expert on this field... microSD cards are really bad at writing very small files so that could be a reason too :silly:

Thank you so much for your response!!
Trust me, I'm no expert either!! But this is happening while I'm trying to format the card.....there's nothing on it & it works fine once formatted as portable?
I'm sooo confused :silly:
same here bro..
I have the same issue with the Nokia 6, but with a Lexar UHS-II card. Was told by Nokia support to send it back to the retailer. I did. Got it back within two weeks, saying they didn't find any problems with the device.
Next I sent it directly to a Nokia service point, got it back within two weeks, saying they didn't find any problems with the device.
So I sent it in a third time (including the SD card this time) and I'm still waiting to get it back. (which I hope to be a good sign, since they received it on Dec. 11 and it's Jan. 02 as I'm writing this. I guess they're ACTUALLY looking into it this time.)
I will update here as soon as I get it back. IF I get the same phone, not a replacement.
I think this is a software related issue, I doubt that there are so many faulty devices without Nokia noticing. If an SD card gets formatted as internal, Android reformats it with the Linux Filesystem Ext4 and encrypts it. In order to write and read data from the SD card, it has to encrypt / decrypt that data every time. I suspect that the Nokia devices struggles somewhere in this process.
so many devices?

I don't know if it's really that many devices, since every time I made contact with Nokia Support they told me (after throughout questioning) it seems to be a very rare problem, so they couldn't tell me any further other than that I should send it in for repairs. Same goes for the retailer I bought it off.

hmmmmm..... I have a spare mSD card, i gonna test it. I will also look for a benchmark program...
It is a SanDisk Extreme 16G Class10 3-in-a-little-U microSDHC1. I do not have the packing anymore but Google says it has 60MBPS Read and 40MBPS Write speed.
I finished my testing: Although there is noticeable difference in the overall lag, it is not that heavy and the phone is still useable... i also tested Scout with an offline map installed and internet access disabled: with everything on internal storage: 5s start time; with everything moved via App2SD, it takes 13s to load.
I did not notice any huge performance drop though
So I got the phone back a few days ago, saying this is a software problem which should be fixed as soon as the Oreo update is installed. Hopefully they're right.
Huh... Weird indeed...
Thanx Heaps
Firstly, I'd like to thank you all for replying.....it's VERY much appreciated & great to know I'm not the only one with this issue!!
2ndly, a couple of things I failed to mention in my original post as I didn't want it to be too long.
Directly before posting my original question, I had actually been live chatting with Nokia support for well over an hour in relation to this problem & I had also tried a 2nd SD card (also Sandisk but had the same issue as my Emtec SD card) while live chatting......in the end I was told they would raise my issue with a higher department & someone would get back to me (still haven't heard back) & due to my frustration I'd forgotten a specific phrase that was coming up on my phone when trying to format it & was reminded by Meuselwitz's post..........after "both" SD card attempts the phrase "This SD card appears to be slow. You can continue, but apps moved to this location may stutter & data transfers may take a long time. Consider using a faster SD card for better performance"!!
I'm using what Nokia recommend!!!
Also, Karlsruhe......were you informed of when that Oreo update was going to be?? Or has it happened???
Hmm... What a shame that Support did not answer. Did you buy your SD cards online? I once bought a "SanDisk" on ebay but it was a (pretty good tho) scam which had significant speed issues and only ~2GB storage (I bought it as 16GB)
As a side note: Meuselwitz and Karlsruhe are (German) cities, not usernames
(well Meuselwitz is more like a village but no one cares anyway)
So... finally the support (via chat) gave me the solution to this problem: you need a card with at least 80mb/s write speed. Got myself a Samsung pro plus card, and it's fine.
That was it? Wow... Okay, I am glad that your problem is solved now :good:

My apologies....I've only just noticed the names at the top of the box.....I'm soooo sorry
I actually can't remember where I bought it.....looks like I'll have to buy another!! It does have 64GB thankfully I'll put this one in my work phone & the new one in the Nokia
You're all awesome
Thank you all again so very much I would not have been able to deal with support again!!
It is so good to know that "I'm not the only one" with issues with a new phone & to be able to get fantastic advice & feed back is even better
& the fact that I'm pretty unskilled when it comes to technology doesn't help my cause lol I'd rather build something
Also.....how bad would it be of me to finish this huge "Thank You".....with another question???
OK....so here goes, I'm trying to work out why, when I'm sent an MMS message that it automatically puts it into a group message with the person who sent it & "my phone"?? Then when I send a message back to the person who sent the original MMS I receive the exact same message :crying:
Any advice would be truly welcomed
Thank you in advance

That can happen, no worries
I was having the same issue with an older Sandisk Ultra card.
Switched to a Samsung EVO select, issue resolved.
I have a similar problem with a verbatim premium of 256gb with my Nokia
Hello I bought a verbatim card of 256gb class 10, at first my phone recognized the card with 260gb, when I tried to use it as portable device, but when I tried to format as internal storage, the device start to popup a message unsupported SD card. This device doesn't support this card. After that I TRIED to format in setting and then with a computer with the app SD memory card formatter , and the computer recognized the card and I can transfer files, but when I put the card in the Nokia 6, it's show the message unsupported card, what I have to do in this case. I want to use the SD card in the Nokia 6

I updated to Pie, and now I can't use Dual SIM + SD Card

I have a Galaxy S8 Dual SM-G950FD and need the ability to have a microSD along with the two SIM cards, so I'd been using a SIM card extension for this.
I updated to Pie last weekend and now, if I try to turn on the phone with the two SIM cards and the microSD, I get an error and can't do anything unless I disconnect the second SIM.
Same thing happened to the Galaxy S9: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/help/dual-sim-card-sd-card-problem-t3809073
Obviously I think this is idiotic on Samsung's part, as the hardware itself is perfectly capable of running all three components, but it seems they won't change their mind about this, so I'm looking for a way around it.
Any of you know of a way to keep using two SIM cards and the microSD at the same time on Android Pie? Or am I gonna have to flash back to Oreo and just stay there. I'd like to keep my phone updated, but if there's not going to be a way to do it, I'd rather have the two SIMs and SD functioning, over the latest updates.
Thanks in advance!
