[Q] Installing Google Play edition, Need help.

Hi,
i wanted stock android on my s4 and downloaded cm11 and installed using the easy installer thing. Cm11 was not as great as i thought and was looking at the GPE rom.
I have the zip file downloaded for the GPE , just wondering to complete
do i need odin and if so what v?
do i need root?
Do i need CWM?
Im new to downloading and installing roms but i am a quick learner
Thanks
Every time you want to flash a custom rom you will require root and a custom recover (Like CWM, TWRP or PhilZ).
There are a few cases where you need Odin to flash the rom. But for the GPE rom you will need just a custom recovery and root.
Considering you have already installed a custom rom (although with the cyanogenmod installer) you should be rooted and maybe have a custom recovery.
Here is a root guide just in case.
But if you have an app like SuperSU, then you're rooted.
Then you still need a recovery. I don't know if the CM installer flashes one.
I myself use TWRP recovery. Because CWM just didn't work.
Used Nandroid manager (from google play) to flash TWRP because everything else failed.
If you don't have a custom recovery, then you can flash TWRP. I haven't tested the other recoveries on this device.
Go here and download the latest .img file.
Then you will use Nandroid manager to flash that img file. Then select "reboot into recovery".
Now you should have TWRP flashed. In case Nandroid says that you need to download busybox from google play, do that and install it. But CM should have busybox installed already.
Now put the rom zip on the external or internal storage. Boot into recovery, go to the Wipe tab and do a factory reset.
Then go to Install and select the zips you want to flash. This is how you basically flash a rom.
Some roms may require you to do some other stuff. So make sure you check the rom flash instructions.
nandroid is saying ,the file .... can not be flashed by this app , i checked if i was rooted by downloading a root checker and it said yes... what am i doing wrong?
nevermind, i used CWM instead and worked perfectly, couldnt have done it without you!!! Thanks
CWM didn't work for me.
But if it works for you, I guess it's alright

revert back to twrp from stock recovery in Yureka

Hi,
My device is rooted and had TWRP recovery installed. Then I got the incremental system update. I tried to install the update but it was not working. I searched the web and got a XDA link and yuplaygod's forum link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/yureka/development/bug-fix-update-cyanogenmod-12s-t3108338
http://forums.yuplaygod.com/threads/incremental-lollipop-update-to-improve-battery-performance-of-yureka.12626
Where somebody advised me to go back to stock recovery using flashify app. So I installed flashify and changed from TWRP to stock recovery. But OTA update or manual flashing of system update didn't worked. Then someone advised me to revert back to TWRP recovery and install the update via recovery.
Now the problem is, If I install TWRP via flashify app, its replacing the stock recovery but whenever I boot into recovery, I'm getting blank screen where the flashify app showing me TWRP is installed. Though normal booting is working properly. My question is how to install the TWRP recovery again? Plz help. Thanks in advance.
u might be missing the theme zip file of TWRP... search the forum, it's easily available.... Place the theme zip in appropriate folder in the internal memory (read the manual of the OP) & flash the latest TWRP for YUREKA using the latest FLASHIFY app. It should work...
thnaks a lot

Soft-Bricked S5 running FreedomRom trying to install Xposed

Just tried to flash Xposed on here using the Samsung-based one from Arter. Now that phone doesn't allow me to boot past the flashing android logo. Should I flash the uninstaller via recovery ("update via SD card"), or completely wipe the ROM, go back to NCG(I think), and then reflash it? I'm kinda at a lost at home I should handle this. I've heard that I shouldn't flash anything via the stock recovery on FlashFire-based roms.
You can't flash anything via the stock recovery. I recommend using Safestrap--read about it.
To make sure everything works completely on any firmware, I recommend doing the following:
Flash this with odin, boot the phone and go through the setup wizard:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347794178
Then, reboot to download mode again and flash this:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347776876
After it boots, root it with towelroot, install busybox, then install safestrap. There are directions posted already for this.
Look for jrkruse's "rooting tools for sdcard" zip and install it after you reboot into safestrap. Then you can wipe and install your rom and the firmware and never have to use odin again. You reinstall that zip after installing the ROM to get the apps for using safestrap without odin, also.

You can't install an ota update without having stock recovery. That's why it fails. The best advice is to flash the whole September stock rom with this instructions https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/stock-rom-npjs25-93-14-4-march-1-t3608138
