Hi Forum
I'm experiencing an odd thing with the P7510. I've been using AOKP for weeks now and all the sudden the thing froze up on me. This time I'm not able to reboot and go any further than the booting screen after the Galaxy Tab logo.
I thought a Wipe data / factory reset would help but It freezes as soon as I select the Wipe data function.
Nor am I able to wipe Dalvik Cache nor fix permissions (heck you try everything at this point). - All instant freeze except for Wipe Cashe Partition and using the install zip from sdcard, back etc.
Unfortunately I do not have the AOKP zip on the tablet anymore but if I'm remembering correct you need to wipe data when installing AOKP which I won't be able to do no mater what.
Do you guys have any idea what I could do to save the unit?
Fixed I was able to bring it back using the unroot guide. Unfortunately everything I got on there is gone - Either way thank you for looking!
That's really weird.

The interesting thing is a number of cases seems to happen in mid June this year.
Is this problem date related?
I'm using roman rom by the way.

A friend of mine just updated her Nexus 4 to 4.3 via OTA. Since the update several background apps kept crashing repeatedly, but she uninstalled them before I could get her to check what the exception message was. After removing the apps everything seems to be working except the Notification Pull Down. Notification Icons correctly display in the Status Bar, but you can't actually open the Notifications. Try as you might it just refuses to open. The phone has been rebooted several times to no avail.
I've searched several threads but haven't found anything even remotely similar to this. Anyone have any ideas?
I'm not sure what App affects notifications to even try clearing data on. I've thought about removing her google account cpmpletely and readding it, but I'm helping her over text, so trying to keep the complicated solutions for when we've tried everything else.
Any suggestions or ideas would be very greatly appreciated!
Has she wiped dalvik cache? I think that not wiping dalvik can cause apps to crash.
Try to reflash the ROM and wipe cache & dalvik, and do a factory reset and optionally wipe /system partition.

The phone is completely stock, non-rooted, locked bootloader, running stock 4.3 OTA.
I'm trying to find GUI solution that doesn't involve installing a custom recovery. Thanks for the idea though.
Doing a factory reset seems like the only logical thing to try, in case you don't want to unlock your bootloader and install a custom recovery. Beware, you will lose your apps and their data.
You can try to reflash the ROM again, but I don't know what's the procedure with the stock software. If you can just apply update from .zip, than you should be able to do that from the stock recovery. I never had any OTA update so I can't help you further unfortunately.

If you have the security feature Secure startup enabled, which requires you to enter your password/pin/pattern before your phone boots up, sRGB mode will reset every time. After turning secure start-up off, sRGB mode will stick and you won't need to re-enable it after every reboot. You can disable/enable this feature by going into security and resetting your password
Thanks for the tip, seems to work :good:
Any idea why I can't disable the secure startup feature? I've tried turning password on/off repeatedly, and it never gives me that option again.

You need to change it to another security type. For example if you have a PIN change it to pattern and back or vice versa
tried that. didn't work. any other ideas?
I never set secure startup and mine reset every reboot. Since I reboot every day.

I can't turn off the secure reset feature as well. I tried changing from pattern to pin to password and still no dice. I even factory reset to see if that would help and it didn't. Maybe a bug that will get fixed in a future update.

Did you factory reset through recovery mode or through backup and reset setting?
I did it through both. I just got my 64gb frost 6P yesterday and it does the same exact thing. I'm thinking a software bug.

yeah, was chatting with Google CS....wiped cache, didn't work and so they suggested factory reset. if it didn't work for you, i don't think i'm going to do it
My 6P requires patern before boot up and sRGB does not reset by itself.

That did the trick! Thank you!
For those of you still having issues, here are the steps: Settings > Security > Screen Lock (top option on this page) > confirm your password/pattern/etc. > choose a new one (can be the same as before) > THEN you choose the "Secure Start-up" yes or no. CHOOSE " No Thanks" ...Problem solved. Well, for me at least.
Absolutely 100% stock
Non rooted

if you disable Secure startup doesn't that make device encryption useless?
I'm having this issue too with my Nexus 6p running Nougat. I'm unable to turn off secure startup. I've tried a factory reset through recovery and that didn't help. I wonder if it's some kind of issue with the OTA. I wish they would hurry up and make the factory image available so I could try flashing it to see if that somehow fixes it. The odd thing is that while running marshmallow I had secure startup in place, but sRGB stuck during a restart. I'm also wondering if decrypting would resolve the issue since that would basically disable secure startup, but I'm reluctant to do that because I'm getting tired of setting up my phone again and again. The other reason I'm reluctant is because my phone was decrypted until I pushed the nougat OTA. If I'm going to go to the trouble of decrypting my phone just to have another OTA encrypt it in the future, I'd rather not bother. Does anyone know whether flashing factory image (not necessarily an OTA) always encrypts the device? (Sorry for my wordiness)

Yes. Every OTA will force encryption due to the "forceencrypt" flag in the boot.img. Flashing SuperSU, modified boot.img, or custom kernel will turn that off and keep you decrypted, if you are decrypted.

Thanks for the quick reply, SlimSnoopOS. Can I infer that as long as I'm not flashing an OTA and just the system image from the factory image (not the boot image) then it won't screw with the decryption?

It won't but there's nothing wrong with ADB Sideload the OTA zip or manually flashing boot, system and vendor. Just make sure to go directly into TWRP (do not boot into the rom) and flash superuser/custom kernel before booting up to stay decrypted. I've manually installed each OTA and kept decrypted doing those steps.

so I accidentally wiped the entire phone and tried to install chroma rom. Now after boot I'm getting an "Encryption Unsuccessful" message. and its asking me to reset phone.
I tap the Reset Phone button and I am taken to TWRP where it asks for a decryption password. I enter "default_password" and the phone reboots with the same issue. Please Help
Wipe data and reflash. I had the same problem.

We're you able to recover data darkjedi?
Here is my question. I want to reset my rooted Nexus 6P and hand it down to my wife. i'm completely fine with it being rooted but does that force me to wipe everything through TWRP, including internal storage, and push the rom vendor & google apps via adb again? or can i just do a factory data reset through the settings and hand it over? We will be running the same rom after fyi. Any knowledge is appreciated.

Remove your account from within Android then factory reset in TWRP. Now fastboot flash a factory image. If she plans on using her own email and etc, that's the best step so that she can add her own account and start fresh.
