EDIT: It seems they didn't fix anything at all.

Reminder, we already have TWRP and bootloader unlock tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/guide-twrp-2-8-7-0-custom-recovery-t3328155
So, I guess for anyone interested, you can finally build custom ROMs for this device
(thanks to @CHuvaCK21 for the good news)
Yeah, I don't think custom Roms will happen because i showed someone else this news and they said that ASUS didn't update the kernel at all. So I'm dropping hope now, don't know about you guys.

I just read about it as well, this place is gonna pop!
And better still: "Gingerbread will be in AOSP soon after Nexus S ships. Future details will be sent to android-building."
(from http://twitter.com/jbqueru/status/14915850251280384#)
Note that the Nexus S is already available for order from the Carphone Warehouse in the UK.

what does being in AOSP mean?

It means the source code will be released and ROM cookers can start their baking.
In other words, officially built ROMS like Cyanogenmod & Enomthers will be able to start working on their new Gingerbread releases.

Hello all. As you can see, I've successfully booted openSUSE on the A500. In the coming days, I"ll be updating it, and release a root file system. The rootfs will not have xfce4 installed.
What works:
WiFi
Booting
Audio
YouTube (HTML5)
Chromium (Hexxeh's armhf build)
What doesn't:
Probably everything else. I really haven't tested anything.
Xfce4 is fairly smooth.
Thanks for all the work you do. It's cool that now we are seeing RPM based linux distros running on this tablet!
ca we please get some video or screenshots.
thanks.

He....he....he....he..... looks like the guy who ported it got banned from XDA.
I think its very hard to port without sources, and the framework so different.

iya.. so sad.... but bro Toni, i successfully installed and use BBM official version with your CM9, just for test, but again, data connection not stable in CM9. So.... switch back to Gingerbread.

I've checked [email protected] and com.bbm-501082eb365053865c169548a7a51a51.apk for differences.
That is no real port. That guy just changed minSdkVersion from 14 to 10 and tinkered with some
images. Don't put your hopes in it.

Will be working on it with lj50036 this weekend.
Nice to have Omni based rom on our shield
@sbdags
Great initiative.
Will of course flash and test it when you make it available.
Hope you get the stylus to work!
It's a rough build. Got a lot to fix first.
Compiled just straight Omni a few weeks ago. Same thing happened for me. Very buggy.

Yeah seems to be based off 5.0.1 sources and wifi doesn't work...
Hope you can get it fixed.
By the way I have a Lte Europe version.
OK this is just the WiFi version for now:
First Beta of Zombi-pop is up
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/orig-development/rom-t3194966
This is very exiting! I have the EU LTE version and look forward to taking Z for a spin. It's kept my Asus TF700T running well. Thanks for brining this to the Shield Tablet.
I want is android 6 .
Beta 2 is up!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/orig-development/rom-t3194966
20150912 ZOMBi-POP 5.1.1 Beta 2 changes
- Re-based from omni-5.1.1-20150909-zombi_wx_na_wf-KANG maintained by lj50036, hardslog, sbdags
- Updated vendor blobs to rel-st8-l-r6-partner
- New Kernel - Updated kernel source to rel-st8-l-r6-shieldtablet
- Updated ESFileExplorer to version 4.0.2.1
Maybe I put it in the wrong dev forum as hardly anyone seems to be trying it.
The rom flies for me! lj50036 and will be testing F2FS later which should give even more speed.
Thank you for the great work, but yes, you're right, this is the wrong forum. You should have posted this in the original android development forum.
I know some of the other models of the phone have software where you can restore to complete stock as listed here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/restore-v20-to-100-stock-bricked-devices-t3524903
So I was wondering if there is anything like this for the Sprint version. I was thinking of trying to restore it with the US996 firmware and hopefully that would work. Considering its the unlocked version. Thanks in advance.
no.. our KDZ never went public and isn't available.
once rooted and unlocked, its forever
i kinda want you to try hitting it with a us996 kdz, but your probably gonna either brick it/wont work.
I mean its worth a shot, just know its probably not a good idea lol
