To buy or not to buy - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
I'm currently an LG G4 user but I'm really disappointed of this device because of it's poor battery life...
Before having the G4 I had the Mate 7. I loved its fingerprint sensor and its huge battery.
I want to know if it's easy to get 5-7 hrs of SoT with the OpT and if its camera and fingerprint sensor worth getting the device?
Btw I'm planning getting a MarshMallow Rom (for the fingerprint sensor API integration on Android 6.0), is the battery life OK?
Concerning the overheat issue is it solved?
As far as I could read, the SkyDragon Rom is quite well made and even with OOS 2.x.x combined with Boeffla's kernel gives good results... But as I'm looking for a MarshMallow rom I'd like to have reviews about the SkyDragon Rom (any compatible Kernel or setting giving good battery life? Same questions for CM13)
Waiting for your replies!
TheBledard

hey there, well the fingerprint sensor is really good not just a gimmic much better then locking your phone with a code/patten, so useful for simply unlocking and locking the phone.
About battery life i mean well on skydragon with boeffal's kernel and a good battery saving profile you cab get really good results some others even getting 7-8 SoT!
But realistically on any MarshMallow ROM your only gonna push 5 hours SoT max.
I've tried pretty much every ROM and combo with kernels ect, i'm currently using the Offical Exodus ROM 6.0.1, for me at least its just awesome lovely user experience very very fast and just all round a brilliant and stable ROM and updated lots.
But as for battery life i get 4 to 4 and a half hours SoT on average a fue times had over 5 hour but thats using the phone very little, i get through the day on one charge 80% of the time and thats good enough for me.
Hope this helps a little let me know if theres any other questions you have.

EMUI vs CM 13

I want to hear the experiences you guys have with emui vs cm13.
At some points i always wonder if i should flash back to emui because of a few bugs and problems so i wanna hear a few experiences to see what you guys think about it.
- generally speaking i would love to hear what you like in comparision to the other
- how's your battery life, usage experience, how you think about the current bugs, etc.
- are you thinking to change rom to emui or to cm13 and why?
cm gives a more stock experience compared to emui, better battery life. unless youre going to update to emui 5, cm is better

With papsi ROM everything is fine by battery life is miserable with an outdoor brightness and mobile data on (only few hours).
Speedo; very descent battery life , zooming is fine but video recording is not, still buggy and finger print not working
Till now I think the best available firmware is stock but if speedo_thc managed to get his ROM as functioning as papsi's he will be the best daily driver for me.

papsi's isn't that bad on battery life for me. i get two days usage with constant bt connections and a few messengers push. you will have monitor wakelocks and stuff to optimize as much as possible though.
i am using
- amplify (no donate)
- greenify with xposed + root
but have 3 messengers, email and android wear on push at all times.
Cm notifications fixed emui not
cm's will always break after few months of heavy using, stock wont. sure cm has more customizeable tweaks and in some cases better battery life (never in my cases). evey device i have tried cm it always starts randomly rebooting, lagging and eats battery like hell(hahe had this issue with multiple devices). i prefer stock base and then rethemed to whatever you choose.
Currently, no custom rom is stable enough for daily use. I still love the EMUI camera and the finger print gestures. I will stick with EMUI 4 for now hopefully until custom roms are more stable and fully functional.
I've used papsi's rom for a few weeks as a daily. So far the only downside to me, is the battery life compared to stock emui.
Papsi's cm13 is better than stock EMUI on almost every points except the battery. I'm using his rom since he published it and it's pretty stable but the battery life can be a deal breaker. Some optimization would make the rom great for daily usage.

I agree with you, i would use his rom but the problems with the camera and battery life and the phone getting too hot when playing games or watching videos is what keeps me on EMUI since i never had issues with notifications.

Rom recommendation

Hi everyone, I m currently on oxygen os 3.5.9 and my battery drains like crazy. Can you guys please recommend me a rom that gives good screen on time. I am even willing to downgrade to lollipop because battery life is really crucial for me. Thanks!!
I'm in the same case, looking for the best choice with the maximum stability and good battery life
I tried so but returned to LineAge even if the battery life is not really good but the ROM is the most stable ever now
Tonight will try Carbon to test, but if someone found the best compromise in one ROM That it notifies us
Try AOSCP. It's really good.
Moyses I tried lineage and yes the same issue battery is not that great. Hopefully we will find a good battery friendly rom. Let me know how the carbon rom works for you.
Ny_3 thanks I will check it out. What's the average screen on time that you get with this rom?
I would either recommend AospExtended/AEX or Resurrection Remix if you like customizability. I am using AEX and don't have any problems with battery life.

Well I've got 3 and a half hours of SOT but it's really the best I've got on a custom rom (guess my battery is bad). I actually bought a new battery 2 days ago so I will have to check how it is after that. But thats basicaly what I get most of the time using FB messenger Spotify and YouTube. Keep in mind its not full of features. It's kinda like Paranoid 6 : Smooth, not full of features, and really stable.

Best Kernel-Balance Between Battery and Performance

Which is The Best Kernel For you with Oxygen OS or OOS Based Rom's For Best Battery Life and Performance Balance?
I used FrancoKernel But I Don't know why I am Getting only around 3.5 Hours of SOT When others are getting 10Hours
In the Stock Kernel and OxygenOS I am Getting Around 4 to 4.30 Hours of SOT
well bud, you should know how to use a smartphone. there is no way on the earth that OP5 lasts about 3hours. No offend, you should consider switch to iPhone. Android is a different thing. you should know how to get rid of wakelock, what consumes the battery the most, or what keeping your phone awake etc. No kernel or rom can help you.
Stock, don't be fooled, there is no kernel that give you extra hours of battery life or rocket speed.. that's just placebo or bored users that they need to flash something.
Oneplus 5 is quick enough, apps opening instantly, to where you want to push it more?
Even if you find some way how you throttle down performance to gain couple of minutes on battery where is the point, when on the end you put
your phone on charger that in couple of minutes give you power for another day?
just enjoy the phone..that's my opinion

I Got your Point,Thank You for the Information
I Just Switched From Iphone 5S Maybe That's Why i have Devoleped this Laziness to Not to Look into Advanced things,I will Research more
I Used to Use Android in 4.0
There is something else that is draining your battery, such as an app, it's not the kernel
I flashed a lot on my elephone p9000. No need to on op5 stock experience is perfect
SimpleGX has very good feedback regarding battery saving and stock performance.
I'm currently giving it a try but it's early for me to comment properly.

What a negative bunch of responses.. I use franco, naptime and get 5hrs plus SoT easily.
You don't need to be a power user to have android. Stock is fine, but modded is better (this is xda after all).
Fresh install latest OOS, keep installed apps to a reasonable amount (which do you -actually use-?)
And then... Use. If you are a business user, expect less SoT. If you only watch YouTube on wifi, expect longer SoT.
You go and most importantly, explore! OP5 is a wonderful phone!

This or stock. I've tried all the other kernels (with a friend who also has a OnePlus 5). Stock beats everything else in terms of battery by at least an hour of SOT in daily usage, more if you use the whole battery in one sitting. Nobody seems to have a straight answer as to why this is. Simple gx stays close enough to stock that battery life is pretty much identical to stock. I have no idea why battery on Boeffla, blu_sparks, elemental x, Franco, etc isn't as good as stock, doesn't make any sense to me. Same results on 2 different phones, but ymmv I guess?

Best Rom to install? (official samsung marshmellow slow and batt draining)

Whats everybody's recommendation for what ROM to run on the note 4 (mine is A snapdragon). I was using Dr Ketans rom, and that was all really good - fast and snappy, good battery except video was not GPU accelerated! And was a battery drain, or having playback issues. That was the only issue i had with it.
So i went back to the factory Samsung Marshmellow android, but immediately everything was laggier and slower, and the battery drain was horrendous (from 5hours SOT, down to 2hours SOT). Im almost %100 sure Samsung intentionally made it that way to force users to upgrade. But i dont want to let them win! since these phones have removable batteries to keep them going for some time yet!
So what is everybody elses using? I really like to use the pen for taking quick notes which may rule out lineage?
Thanks
Uhm, I don't get 5 hours of SoT on any rom, maybe 3-3.5 hours if I'm lucky. Did you manage that on "Dr Ketan's rom"?
On terms of usage experience, I'd recommend Resurrection Remix.

yeah i was managing 5 hours SOT and i think once or twice hit 6 hours. May of been on kit kat before i used dr Ketans Rom, but all i know is going back to samsung stock Marshmellow was a big mistake.
I should have some screenshots somewhere to show those SOT times. I really ran things bare minimum though. I will give Resurrection Remix a go thanks.
Anyone else have any feedback? please share.

Best ROM and Kernel for battery life right now?

Hello, users and developers.
Got a slightly used Galaxy S5 G900T (klte) a pair of months ago. Awesome phone for its age, only problem i'm having is battery life. I'm hardly getting 10 hours on standby and 2-3 hours SoT.
So I'm looking for the best ROM and Kernel for this device. Tested a couple roms out there but they where from 2017-2018, so maybe there are newer, improved ROMs by now.
Thanks in advance and have a nice day lovely people.

Hey there,
There's nothing wrong with using an older ROM if it's awesome
I can highly recommend MagMa NX PCE ROM from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development/rom-magma-nx-rom-t3508672
If you'd like to see what battery life I'm getting with it you can check my posts on 3rd page in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/accessories/looking-battery-t3783324/page3
It's fast, it works almost perfectly and battery life is great. Obviously it depends what apps you're using as well as their settings. Note: Sync is a major drain, turn it off and use Tasker to enable it only while phone's charging.
The only thing I found not working in MagMa is to send SMS to 4-digit numbers (like parking zones for example) and there is a random shutdown sometimes right before you take a picture with the Note7 camera (you can choose another one in the ROM installer, it's Aroma). Overall the best ROM imo for the Note3 & S5 - probably for all the other supported devices as well.

I am getting extremely low battery usage @ idle & a very fluid Android Pie 9.0 experience on my daily driver since 5 months now: Galaxy S5 G900M LineageOS 16.0 klte build 2019-08-24 + Open GApps Pico + LineageOS AddonSU with the stock LineageOS kernel and getting monthly over the air Android security bumps with the convenient built-in Updater.
