Mine seems to be holding up great! I just dropped it once and has a small dent in the metal frame around the phone. (Anyone know any ideas how to remove it? Maybe buff it out?) What about you guys?
Mine also seems sturdy. I was at at friends wedding few weeks ago and as there were some drinking involved, I dropped my Oneplus X twice to a hard wooden floor. So my OPX also has a few dents in the metal frame, but that's it. I'm not using any covers.
Using cover and glass protector and it fell a couple of times but nothing to notice
Can you send pics of the dent? If it isn't too bad I'll consider using it without the cover

still holding up original screen protector still intact and have a spigen case on it.
currently rocking CM13 by ashwin in it after trying Oxygen and Hydrogen OS/
It better to use casing and tempered glass.
I dropped mine from pocket once without casing and the back glass got cracked badly.
I removed the factory applied screen protector after 2 days of use because it makes my screen looks so dull.
But I still rocking the stock soft case, this case is good enough in terms of quality and design. So I don't think that I need to buy any more case in the near future.
Other than that, I really happy to bought OPX, it has everything I expected from a mid-range smartphone. Really like it, especially the simple and elegant design. Also, the Oxygen OS is really suit me. Love it!

Hmm... doesnt look too bad. From what height had you dropped it?
Does the back glass scratch easily without a cover? or is it as scratch resistant as the front?

Indeed, it doesn't look too bad. I didn't even notice the dents right away. Dropping height was about one meter.
I don't have single scratch on the back glass and haven't used cover one second. IMO the back is not as scratch resistant as the front but almost there. Hard to scratch but the material feels different from the front, naturally.
I usually hate using cases on my phones but I ended up using the one that came with my OPX just because I found the phone slippery without it. And still, it has managed to get two small scratches on the back (I have no idea how!). The case has been on the phone since day 1.
My only fear is that dropping my one plus x, and the damage it would do. I do not want any kind of cases on this beautiful phone. Cases just ruin it for me ( and for many others )
But yes there are tempered glass ( you do it on both sides right ? OPX owners? )
I am still looking for an alternative for a OPX....and to be honest there just isn't... I do not like 5.5inch phones nope. 5" are perfect for me.
I will be getting this soon!
My OPX reboots randomly twice per day. I've heard that one or two reboots on OOS per week is perfectly normal but 2 per day isn't. I've sent my phone for the RMA and they did tests and said that everything is in order. Phone returned from service after more than an month and still have random reboots on OOS. When I've flashed CM12.1 or 13 the device is sometimes freezing during charging (additionaly I'm experiencing random reboots known from OOS). Notification LED is lit in white color and even the process of charging is stopped because when I'm restarting my device (in the morning for example) the battery percentage is the same which was before the freeze. There is definitely something wrong with the device (probably with the hardware) and I've requested exchange for a new device.

I had one to two random reboots per day on stock OOS, but after rooting and trying about 5-6 different custom ROMs I think I've had one random reboot in a month. So that issue were definitely with OOS.
From the other issues you've described, it does sound like there might be something wrong with the hardware as you stated. At least I haven't read similar symptoms here in xda-forums.

It's very annoying because alarm clock is not functioning properly. I'm waking up and phone is frozen, so "no alarm clock for you today, buddy". It's weird because it only happens on custom roms (I've tried 3 of them) but not on OOS, it just reboots. I'll stick to OOS for now (it isn't so bad at all) and wait what OP service can offer me. I'm requesting a new device, because previous RMA didn't help. If not I'll try to escalate dispute through paypal and get my money back. For similar amount I could buy Nexus 5x 32GB.

Thought I'd share my story. I recently got a swap out for a "dusty" screen. My new phone seemed OK. A few days passed by and my camera flash started acting up and not working... Today I woke up and NOTHING on the top half of my phone works. Meaning my ear peice, my 3.5mm jack, my camera, or flash, or proximity/light sensors... nothing. But the speakerphone works, my screen is fine. and my microphone works. kinda odd!
It almost like the top PC board got disconnected internally or something.
Just thought this was a strange issue. Already requested yet ANOTHER swap from HTC. Hopefully this next one can make me beleive this phone was worth it.
On another note. I did get my phone "ghost armored" at a cart in the mall pretty much immediately upon receiving it from fedex. And they do spray a small amount of soapy liquid on the outside of the phone to apply the skins. Do you think this could be enough to cause water damage? I'm afraid HTC is going to charge me for "non warranty problems" if the guys at ghost armor caused this! Its a very "fine mist" they use so I think it would be hard to penetrate the phones seals. But who knows? Whats your opinion?

water can literally penetrate the smallest most microscopic points. but i dont know think "mist" could do any harm. i think it sucks that you're having bad luck with all these though man.
I like straweberries, they taste good. When eaten slightly chilled they are refreshing as well. And the things you can do with them... fresh fruit topping for cereal, pancakes, yogurt, or you can make them into jam/jelly/compo(sp?)
Anyways, yes, it is possible for your device to have received water damage, this is why I have not and will never put something on my phone that requires the use of water in the application process. And it might even be probable given that on the top of the phone you have a 3.5mm jack, speaker housing, and when you take the back off this gets exposed... and I am guessing they removed the back before misting it, so even more water can get into that area causing major issues.

Haha, thanks for your opinion on strawberrys.
I believe they remove the battery, but put the battery cover back on before misting. They also leave the device off while they do this and tell you to leave it off for an additional 2 hours (i left mine off for 6 or 7 hours.)
Even leaving it off, if water gets it, it gets in, and starts causing the circuits and what not to corrode.
I will say, I think it is highly unlikely that you do have water damage causing this problem. If HTC says no go, water damage, those misty dudes are responsible and liable to replace your device/pay for repairs. But, I do highly doubt it.
Still, there is a chance of there being water damage, and even if it isn't causing the problem, HTC won't care.
All in all, I would put money that the swap goes just fine, and hopefull 3rd time is the charm for you. It seems some people, no offense, just have really bad luck with these, while others (not to brag), have bought 5 of them without a single problem.

I agree, I'm having really bad luck. I LOVE this phone. Its just getting annoying having to swap it out every other week.
I'm also angry that this broken one has the best screen I've seen on any nexus, no dust, no pink tint. its perfect! and i have to return it
Oh well. thanks for the advice. I feel a little better about the swap now, I cant really afford to lose another 530$.
One for me, and 4 others for friends that had me help them buy one...
My experience so far..
Very disappointed in my experience with the Canadian Desire HD, I don't know what HTC are thinking seriously..here are the issues I had between 3 devices... dead pixels on the first two, third one has a misaligned lcd with the housing and the front speaker is tilted a bit as well, camera ring and lense became loose on the second day.. the volume rocker on the side is flushed, also experiencing crackling during calls every 10 seconds or so. Also the usb port in the bottom is tilted left.. please people check your phone as this is ridiculous.. other problems like flush power button, blurry camera photos on the sides, and dust under screen. Also speaker is a huge let down.. not the loudness it is loud enough but is just bad quality sound ( tin like with no depth mid base etc.) I came from and x10 and did not have a single issue with anything like the above. This is really unacceptable ... I wonder how many devices have any of this issues. Or is it just me that is really unlucky and got 3 faulty devices..
Just a little update - returned the phone to the store and the lady took out 2 more, checked both...both with dead pixels she took out another 2 first one camera lens again moving checked the last one they had and it was perfect!!! No moving lens no dead pixel, screen was aligned properly so i got it and left to go home, on the way i stopped at Tim Hortons to get a coffee and while waiting at the drive through i picked up the phone and what do i see.....a small lint behind the lcd with a few specs of dust..whiped the screen a few times checked again, double checked and triple checked and i couldnt believe it i was furious and the lint was visible on picures and everything went back to the store and got a full refund. Now i will give it a last chance at a different store in a close by city hopefully they got a better batch and if it still has problems i will give up and wait for the Arc to come out. So mad , i cant believe this not one not two but like 5-6 devices all with some kind of problem...
Update - i got another one from a city nearby so far its all good none of the problems i mentioned. Just waiting for the morning to see the screen under sunlight but it looks good now. I wonder if the problem with the dust is when they sealed the phone they sealded with the dust in between or is it just not sealed properly and the dust can get in at any time?? I hope it is sealed properly..dont want to find dust after the 14 day return period lol. Is there anyone on here that has had the device for longer period or a previous HTC and didnt have dust under the screen?
Update - this one seems to be good, checked under sunlight and everything is ok, all the other phones i mentioned above were from the same store so maybe they got a really bad batch.

I have absolutely no problems with mine, been just awesome.
Same with me, no problems or whatsoever. Just get a replacement, might be a faulty batch if you ask me. Tell them to give you the newest one.
I agree with getting a replacement. I've seen the front speaker housing misalignment on someone elses phone and it does look rather unattractive.
Nothing to complain about my dhd......loving it!!!

The only thing that's actually annoying me about my DHD is the frame around the display. It's a bit higher than the display iteslf and everytime you swype beyond the edges of the device you can feel the improper processing.
But I learned to live with that *sigh*.
Apart from that everything is fine with my device!

No!! That's not a fault. It was designed like that because Desire HD has turn to mute. So they have raised it to prevent any damages caused to the screen when the phone is turned.

I had my DHD exchanged five time.two had dead pixel and the others varius problems like lcd and the lens not correctly aligned. All of them had dust under screen, including the last one.
I won't exchange it anymore and unfortunately I cannot get a refund.
I'm waiting for the LG optimus X2 .I hope the quality will be better.
i got my one from telus
it doesnt seem like there are thing wrong like you claim
maybe you should exchange for a new one
the top right of my screen seems to be a tiny bit out compared tot he rest of the sreec. I only noticed it one day when i was playing a game and touched the screen, could kinda feel it move a tiny little bit.
I got mine from telus and it works well, and as for the problem with the edges, I have an otterbox defender case on it so its even more pronounced.

That's a feature of the phone, it protects the screen from possible scratches when placed faced down on a table or desk to silence it as part of sense.
GUYS,
PLEASE BEWARE, the Galaxy S3 is no where as sturdy as the S1 which i previously owned or a S2.
Today it just fell off from my pocket and see what happened to the screen :-(
I had dropped my previous S1 a million times in the period of 2 years and not a single scratch
I am going to give it in on warranty, pathetic stuff from samsung
please everyone take care and use a casing.
Yikes
That's annoying. Hope you get it fixed mate.
I wonder if Samsung does that dirty trick of logging out the G sensor to detect whether it's been dropped or not and not accept warranty repairs based on it.
It was all fine after the drop. I used it for about 30 min. Then when i woke up in the morning, the screen was like this
it was a very subtle drop, this is pathetic quality and should be covered under manufacturer defect
Warranty don't cover clumsiness
G-sensor isn't a dirty trick to see if phone is dropped its proof
Sending back for warranty repairs saying you didn't drop it is a dirty trick
If you drop your phone a million times I strongly suggest phone insurance and a otter box case

To be fair, its pretty reasonable to expect that someone would at some point in a two year period drop a device that they will likely be carrying about with them ALL the time and removing it from and replacing it in their pocket frequently.
Just yesterday my s3, having only got it on monday, slid off the arm of my sofa because every surface of it is glassy smooth and bounced off the edge of a wooden table. Luckily it was unscathed but it is not unreasonable to expect a device of this nature to be able to withstand such an accident.
There is a certain amount of luck involved here though because obvioisly even the lightest tap at the right angle and position could shatter a screen.

With today's technology and what it costs is the minimum that can withstand drops of at least 50 cm like my RAZR .........
If im not mistaken it seems as if all the white ones are the ones with the faulty issues... the cracked screens, the exploding phone, dead screen... dont you think that might be the reason they're releasing the white at a later time? to perfect it a lil more...i read something where that they had to redo the pebble blue because of some issues and maybe they're redo'ing the white version...hmmm makes sense....:good:
Unlucky mate, hope it gets fixed. I am fairly certain that my phone is going to get dropped sooner or later, simply because it's so big (even more so in a case) that I can't hold it securely in one hand and operate it properly at the same time.
Tbh I'm going to keep hold of it until the rumoured multiple Nexuses come out later in the year and then maybe sell it on to get something slightly smaller.

no. I think since the pebble blue was delayed due to Samsung's color issue, the bulk of what was immediately available were the white phones. Then when a few units had problems, they happened to be white.
My white one fell out of my hoody jacket as I was running for the bus, I was lucky that it landed on the cement, not the grass or I wouldn't have noticed it. Three corners have massive damage and there paint scraped off, it really did hit the ground hard. But the screen is perfect

I agree that if you drop your phone you only have yourself to blame if it breaks but having said that i also believe a device like this should be able to withstand some drops, they managed it with the S1 & the S2.
My advice would be to get it insured and get a case of any description, something is better than nothing, even if it's only a pouch!

The phone has been out for most of us just little over a month and there have been many reports about front/rear glass cracking, so now I made this poll to see how many people actually have/had problems with their device.
Please note that this poll is only about hardware problems, so don't vote yes if you only had software related problems, thank you.
To be clear:
Vote yes: If you had glass cracking (with/without) a reason, flaps not closing properly, phone not being waterproof, etc
Vote no: If you had no problems, software related problems
Bump!
Don't forget to vote!
I voted yes due to a way too sensitive touchscreen - putting a screenprotector on however solves the problem, but I take it that it is the out of the box product we have to vote about...
(To the - right now 13 persons - who have voted no - does this also mean that you don't have the popping issue when pressing the screen? Or is this looked at as a feature...? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JrfMjiNB9E)
Nope. I've had nothing wrong with the phone, no "popping", no "glass breaking" even though I accidentally did drop it today.
Nothing. I'm convinced most of you are playing baseball with your phones, or just being extremely picky.
Not any problem at all. This phone lives up to its expectations but i also keep it protected with case though.
i had the phone for 3 weeks. i bought a magnetic charger and was using that. last week i went to take the charger off the phone and the whole magnetic charging "module" came out of the phone with the charger. it's currently back at sony for repair - i'm really hoping they just send me a new one though. that was a fun discovery. anyway, no problems with glass or anything like that in the time i had it, though.
Not a single problem so far.
Btw, good initiative!
However, I think that since only people with glass issues post that on the forum, it's not surprising that it looks as if it's a major problem.

Yeah, that's the main reason why I made this poll, due to so 'many' people reporting issues with their phones it might scare people off that intend to buy the phone.

Hmmm could there be a connection between the popping screens and the very sensitive screens? Mine has the popping and also a screen that sometimes during internet scrolling has a life of its own speedscrolling up to the top of homepages when lifting the finger from the screen - an issue I have never ever had before on any of my many previus phones...???

"Z3 Compact" bought the 28.09.2014. The phone is turned off itself in the middle of the day in my pocket. The battery level was approx. 75% => Black screen, not even light on the charger...:S
The Sony support told me to send them with charger and usb cable.
I am waiting for news... approx. 10 days...
NO issues so far... put a tempered glass screen protector on the phone pretty soon after buying it, but I never saw any screen popping or "life of its own" syndrom while I had the screen unprotected.
no issues so far , i had some bad experience with singapore firmware , but its all good now (using latest brazil firmware).
i did drop it a week ago , tempered glass cracked abit , phone also got abit of a spank on the top right corner, still water proof.
all good just no ****ing root
Sudden Death after two weeks.
Had this awesome phone since October 3rd. All fine and dandy till now, the vibration would work sometimes. It comes and goes but it's no biggie, I can live with it!
Gyroscope defect
Yes.
I had the phone for only 3 days and the phone suddenly stop rotating. I did a factory restore and even trying running the system test. Compass test tells me function is not available. Sony says it might be a hardware issue so I had to send it to Sony to get it fixed.
My mic has become strange. People say that I sound like I'm a mila away from it.
Hey guys,
it seems that every smartphone i own breaks after ~18 months... Now my Z3 is finally gone, i guess.
Problems:
Blurry Pictures, i guess a coating of the lens went off?
One "system UIDs inconsistent" error, since then, whatsapp had "damaged databases" for at least 20 times - factory resettet twice, no difference
REAL bad touchscreen response from time to time. It either doesn't detect inputs at all or thinks you already lifted your finger. Super annoying, especially when typing.
Glas on front AND back is getting loose. The adhesive doesn't hold the phone together anymore
I can shrug off the first two problems (that's something i could have lived with), but not with the bad adhesive tape (??) that doesn't hold the phone together properly. You can look under the screen, it's not that far out (yet!) on the backside of the phone. Has anyone had that problem before? The phone was looked after well, i haven't dropped it, it was ALWAYS in a case. It had a glass screen protector until the touchscreen response got too bad (it didn't get any better after i removed it though).
As for my bad luck, i dropped the phone for the first time ever about an hour ago, since then the power button can't be pushed in properly anymore. The screen survived it miraculously, even though it sticks out quite a bit. I wanted to send it in for repairs next week.
I have the back sticking out problem . I'm using a case now because the service centre says they need 15 days to repair it

I had the same issue with the glass not glued to the chasis anymore. It wasn't sticking out so badly as urs but I took it to repair centre and they repaired it for me. I had also USB charger burn marks on my LCD, so they changed my screen to a new one. I'd recommend you to take it to repair centre. I tried to heat up the adhessive but it didn't work out quite as planed. After the repair it was ok. But then another story happened. WHich isn't connected to this one.
When the glass is lose, you lose the waterproof ability too. The phone can easily take damage from any kind of moisture.
Waterproof ability? Nah, USB seal is gone anyway. It went about a year ago, so i get why there are so many damaged Sony smartphones... They should include a magnetic charging cable in the box. Thanks for reminding me with the screen, the display also has irregular lighting with a corona just above the on screen buttons. Battery runtime also reduced by 50% (9hrs SOT when new; 4.75hrs now after factory reset, i guess they decreased their battery-saving modes with every new android version).
I still have my old red HTC One M7, so repair time won't be an issue. I guess i won't change back to the Z3 but sell it when it's repaired, because it feels too big in my hands and i never liked it quite as much. Funny; I bought the Z3 when i send in my One M7 for repairs (bad camera lens [purple tint], lens cover broke by itself (was not repaired), buttons far to wide inside housing (not repaired) and some other stuff). Every of my 4 smartphones broke after max. 18 months.

Yeah, there are quite a lot broken Sony phones, especially in this area(Screen). I completely agree with you about the magnetic charging cable. I had an issue with that also. I've never reached 9hrs of SOT, I've got this phone for like 6 months or so. Never had it more than 6 hours.
About the updates- yeah. As i've heard, it has decreased by every update. The best battery was with KK, but when I bought it, I already had 5.1.1 preinstalled. It is a good phone, serves all my needs for sure. Doesn't lagg and so on. THere are few things I dislike about it, the camera is underperforming for such a lense and specs. But not terribly underperforming. Think my recent phone (LG G3 ) was taking better shots. It eventually breaks. I had my phone taken to warranty repair twice. Once for screen getting lose, and the LCD burn marks. And then I took it to warranty repair because my camera became blurry and the focus didn't work at all. I tought it was just a piece of dirt behind the lens. but as it turned out, they repaired the LCD again, the upper firing speaker, the camera module, the magnetic charging module and so on. I may have got a bad unit, but the problems are surreal. I paid so much for this phone, but I have never had so much problems with any phone than with this one... Quite dissapointing to be honest. And I'm thinking about the same as you are... Switching away from Sony. This experience is quite terrifying... :crying:

I had it too, I didn't have to pay a cent. It is covered by warranty. And the adhesive might get lose by itself. As it did for me.
They should cover anything which isn't damage by your behavior. Like dropping the phone on the ground and so on

I guess it depends on the repair center then. I'm shocked they would honor it since its out of warranty. Sony rules!

Yeah, As I've heard, they don't act the same in any place. They mostly are very mean. And don't want to help at all. Either they say that you will have to pay for it or just live with the problem. I guess not everyone has like 200$ for a new LCD swap and so on.
Just to be fair, i'd only want to switch back to my One M7 because i loved that phone so much. Also because it still feels too big. The One M7 was even worse, quality-wise.
The Moto RAZR i i had before the HTC worked for a year, only the AUX port was broken and after sending it in, it was ruined (scratched, logo damaged) and i got my money back. Before the Moto, i had an Desire HD that held together pretty well, until the radio went bad. SIM wasn't recognized very often, battery was absolutely DEAD (jumped from 60% to 0% more than once).
What i think is so sad about it, is that you pay ~500€ for a piece of .... that doesn't even hold together for two years. I knew why i didn't sell the "repaired" One M7, you NEED a backup phone these days. Now it's in use for the second time after the Moto G of my girlfriend broke. Probably if they would spend just a LITTLE more on quality than on new features for the next high-end smartphone that has to be released after 6 months i'd be more exited to get a new phone.
I only bought the Z3 because of the battery life (gone with updates) and because i had several friends with Xperias of which none had a problem.

Its out if it's warranty period. So yes they are charging me. But since they need 15 days, I'm not giving it to them

My backcover became slightly undone (adhesive failing). I also had 2 bright spots (0,5cm diameter) on the left and right bottom part of the LED.
Everything was fixed free of charge, they also gave me a new battery (I asked for a replacement although the old battery was still going strong, but I plan on using this phone for quite a while and the old battery probably had way over 300 cycles)

I'm in Florida so anytime I have a problem I have to call customer service and they keep saying they don't do out of warranty repairs anymore. I wish I had a repair center nearby

Damn you are lucky. No repair for me here as garanty period is over, but I have the exact same issues, forward facing glass is getting undone and I have at least 5-6 bright spots on my screen. Really, really annoying when reading. Any idea if I could get it fixed in some no-name shop?
Surprise... After sending in my Z3 on 18.08., i just got it back and i'm in a moral conflict. They sent me a new unit plus new screen protectors. Service-wise, i'm really stunned. It makes me consider buying a Sony again, just for the service... Unfortunately they don't sell a phone i'd want to have right now.
However, my mobile phone contract runs out in 2 months and i got used to my old HTC One m7 again... So i don't know whether i should (and also want to) use the Z3 again for a longer period of time or sell it in it's new condition and get a new phone in 1.5 months. I'd want to have an S7 or Note 7 - especially the S7 would be plain cheap if i'd get it with a contract. If i sold the Z3, the additional costs of getting the S7 would be covered for 18 months of a 24 months contract period. Hypothetical: If I'd use the Z3 for another two years (won't happen) i'd only save 60€ compared to getting an S7...
Well, i guess those are first world problems. Anyway, i'm really stunned by the service - worst experience yet was motorola when i got back a damaged phone, closely followed by HTC, they repaired half of what was broken on the phone...
Sell the Z3, especially if it's brand new, you could get a good price for it. Then invest that money into something new.
I had this problem too, service replaced my phone's screen and metal case for free because this is Sony's fault.
How are any of you guys out of warranty? Mine came with a 2 year warranty in the UK, and it hasn't even been out 2 years yet.
I had to send it to service centre twice. First time digitizer broke, second time replacement screen was peeling away and screen was getting discoloured. Both times also got the magnetic dock port fixed, but I think that was damaged because I was using the wrong insert in the magnetic dock (you need to use the tightest one). I'm a bit disappointed that such an expensive phone breaks this easily, but the service has been excellent.
