You know what they say, that phones are the dirtiest things in our possession nowadays. Will this phone be safe to be washed with soap?
Excellent topic. If not, which other cleaning methods you use to clean your device?

Have washed mine twice so far, once a month, since I bought it. Everything works. The speaker sounded a bit weird, but it became normal after couple of hours.
Which soap is smartphone friendly? Dove?

You can use the same soap that is led tv friendly on phones. I'd opt for sanitizer wipes myself though.

I like to wash mine with bleach.
Can't wait for the "OMG, the rubber gasket(s) are falling off" and other moronic threads in a couple of weeks/months. That'll be fun, and I WILL laugh.
Just use a damp micro fiber cloth. Maybe put a little Windex on the cloth.
I think washing it with soap and water is a bit overboard. After you wipe it down with the damp cloth and leave it sit overnight, the phones surface isn't exactly the ideal environment for germs to live on for long periods.

If you search s7/s7E forum about water damage you will see someone actually killed it with soap.
So don't use soap. It even state in user manual not to use it ,if my memory is right.

Well, I washed mine yesterday before I posted this thread and the speaker acted strange for a few minutes, like someone mentioned here, but then it went back to normal, phone's working without issues. I probably won't use soap very often, but I do wash my phone with normal water at least once a day.
Soap will break the surface tension of water making it twice as easy to enter the phone thru all the small openings and thus increasing the chance to damage the internals of your phone. The best option is alcohol based wipes for (PC) screens, they have the ideal dampness and it disinfects.
Haha! Check this instead of destroying your phone. It uses UVC for sterilization:

I got my EVO yesterday and have seen threads about water/moisture and the EVO.
when I had my HTC Touch Pro I used it in light rain and never worried about it , so , I am a little concerned about getting this thing near water.
Dan
I use mine in the tub. Well not really I used the kickstand and had it seating on a hamper next to the tub and watched some shows...lol. I wouldnt think it would be worse than a touch pro or any similar phone. it has very few buttons for moisture to get into I'd say as long as it didnt fall in water and it wasnt pouring down rain using it while it was sprinkling or light rain should be fine.
Caution
There is another thread started in regards to this, be verrrry carefull with moisture and WATER!!! Sprint has been sneaky about how they placed the water damage indicator right on the edge, and I mean RIGHT ON THE edge of the phone under the battery.. Ive never seen this before. Most indicators are placed behind the battery
I have been told numerous times by sprint employees that the phones are physically checked for water damage if there an issue. They wont always turn you away immediately just because a piece of paper turned red. They can tell if water got into the phone and caused whatever issue you are having.
I still wouldnt want to go in there with the strips wet, but it does ease my mind a bit.
I wonder if you could put a piece of tape over the indicator and make it water tight?
I actually dumped most of a glass of water onto my phone without a problem.
What happened was I had my phone plugged in on my night stand and I went to set a glass of water down and it slipped. I'm not sure that the water actually fell ONTO the phone, but it was definitely sitting in a nice puddle for a second or two.
Luckily, I moved it away VERY quickly and there were no ill effects. Neither of the moisture sensors actually tripped.
However, this is making me seriously consider covering the moisture sensors with some tape.
That's just how close it is, practically sticking out.

Well i'm planning to buy this phone and i'm a bit scared of the plastic build
for me to be convinced ..there is nothing more trustworthy than user-experience !
so .. who dropped the galaxy .. where/how & did it effect it ?
check this out, it will answer your question:

Plastic, due to being flexible, is a MUCH better shock absorbant than super-hardened glass.
Best case scenario for a drop would be a flat-drop on the back.
Plastic used in galaxy s is so flexible that almost every drop is harmless.

WOW our phone is amazing! it can survive all that
finding a replacement screen is easy
incredible, as long as you don't drop it from over 1.5m high, you've got nothing to worry about
I didn't drop mine but I fell down with it in my pocket and now I have a cracked lens glass on the back of the phone.
I guess the lens glass isn't as strong as the plastic back!

I launched mine on a granite floor.was trying to apply a screen protector and for some reason it just flew out my hand. The back and battery ended up about 3 foot away from the rest of the phone but when i put it back together there wernt a scratch on it,and everything worked fine.
Every time I get a new gadget I go through a period where I'm terrified (well, at least worried) that I am going to drop it and damage it. No difference here. I have tried to be so freaking careful - then the other day at work as I was getting back into my car to run an errand (work related) I pulled it out of my pocket and inadvertantly threw the darn thing into a plastic/metal box on my passenger seat. I do not know how it happened. My heart just sank. Yet it appears to have come out of this minor incident with nary a scratch or sign of injury. Relieved.
I believe that it is fairly durable... thankfully.
El Mono
Why not just use a case?
I think a case is always a good idea. But sometimes I just like to enjoy my gadget(s) unencumbered.
El Mono
Dropped mine three times before I decided this phone is too slippery to use without a good case.

the most noticable damange are around the slivery chrome on the side of the phone. Other than that are minor scratches around the front and the back. The screen was protected with a screen protectors from day one, so it remain scratch free.
Edited:
The case is ugly as hell, I know. but hey, whatever works right?
Wow it's pretty foolproof! but i won't try to drop it and i always cary it with me in a pullup case!
Soooooo, do we think these are still coming? i'm kinda holding out for this.
Rosewood for days and days.....

Dunno... there are a LOT of technical issues they will have to work out with wood. you have varying temps coming from the phone hardware causing expansion and contraction as it cools or heals up the wood. you also have moisture from the hands and its not a soft water either, sweaty secretions tend to be salty which wood reacts to in fairly unpleasant ways. Even wood boat finishes have to be renewed and maintained fairly regularly which is not something most people are willing to do on their phones. And thats not even bringing in the natural expansion/contraction wood goes through as you progress from moist summers to dry winters (remember that old hutch or drawer that closed perfectly in the winter but always stuck in the summer?).
So yea while I love making furniture and various decorations out of wood I don't really see it being a practical back material. But hey people use glass on phone backs and thats not all too practical so maybe they will try wood.
if they get it together, im sure it would be a treated wood. but i could see the seals having issues if the wood expands.....
Hmmmmm

What they will probably do (or at least I would) is completely seal the wood in some kind of plastic/epoxy finish. It would end up "feeling" like plastic but it would be real wood and effectively sealed off from moisture, although heat would still be an issue. The other issue is the back material is SOOOO thin its going to need some kind of very strong backing to give it a bit of structural integrity or else it will crack on the first bump.
i'm guessing the wood backs are going to be a very thin veneer that covers a standard plastic back. in fact, looking at the pictures again, they look like some sort of insert and they could possibly have a different feel than the standard plastic back, like maybe they've lost the curve.

droid-life reported their impression and said that (although it was prototype) it wasnt covered by a veneer and really felt like wood. who knows if that will be the final product though.

A veneer is still real wood, it's just a very thin piece they can adhere to the cover. Almost everything hardwood you see is veneered. Otherwise it would be ridiculously expensive.
I'm down.

I was checking my phone today and saw something white like on the left side of the speaker grill.
Can u guys check ur phone and see if this actually happened around ur speaker grill?
Not yet.... What happened is it scrapped off to the metel?
Are you sure it is not just a light reflection?
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Nothing on mine, could be dirt ?
Nothing alike here, maybe the grill just isn't perfectly fitted and you got a small piece of dirt/paper/whatever there.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
I hope its not a crack or anything.
Nothing happened actually but i was fiddling around my phone today when i saw this.
Going to the 60 minute service center later.

Nope not a reflection
If this does happen i would say the qc is rather bad
Mine doesn't. But it's the glass not cut nicely. I see it kinda like that on various parts around where the glass meets the frame.

I believe I have the same thing around my speaker grill. I think it is dirt because if I remember correctly, it didn't have it before. Was going to take compressed air to it, but forget about it every time
It's just dust. You will notice that this will also happen with your home bottom. No worries
It's dust from the pocket lint. A microfiber cloth will get rid of it I get the same issue if I use a flip case with a earpiece cutout
I have an issue with the glass around the speaker grill. It appears to be with a slightly darker black colour. Looks more like a smudge but cannot be cleaned. Do you know what that might be from or should I be concerned about it?
Yes. I see multiple black holes. Not sure if this is normal

Well, on the bright side, you're getting a 7 Pro! Did you try to get warranty? Or Trade-In. Or repair?
Mine dropped into bathtub, slipped out of my hands, was about 1 second under water, phone works fine.i didn't even turn it off, just using it from then and all is fine

Many devices are immune to dunking them in sinks where there's little to no water pressure to do much damage. Sinks are very controlled environments and dunking them slowly would make the water pressure negligible.
A swimming pool however... and JUMPING into it... that's a lot of damage!

It's also well known that even certified devices are only certified for fresh water. Salt water and chlorine are not included in an IP rating
pure water is ok. chlorinated or sodiumated water is no bueno unfortunately
