For the ones who ACTUALLY have the device

What's everyone's personal opinion on the device after having it for a couple of days? I'm picking one up regardless but I was just curious about the initial reviews and not just from all the hate threads about removable battery and expendable storage.

Why not read the many reviews now available online ? Reviewers from tech sites are no different to asking people here - just subjective opinions from strangers, and as you are intending to purchased one regardless ...

It's de definitely snappier when changing screens or apps. Don't know how much that is 5.1.1 or the newer hardware.
We have both the note 5 and the s6 edge plus in our house, and both of us agree the edge plus in s a nicer phone. The Note 5 just barley feels like an upgrade to the Note 4. We use cases so the glass back is pointless. Unless you have to have the stylus, go with the S6 Edge Plus, in my opinion.

I honestly haven't put much thought into the Edge+ because I do use my stylist a couple times a day. I also heard the screen is a gimmick and some reviewers say it gets old after a while, might have to check one out in the stores.

I love the battery compared to the note 4. Standby time is amazing even though i have lots of installed apps and autosync on.

I'm enjoying mine quite a bit. It's my first Note, and really my first Samsung. I technically had the S6 edge for 2 weeks, but I returned it so I could get the Note 5, and because I didn't like the way it felt in my hand.

Absolutely wonderful.
The software is amazing the most sophisticated piece of "equipment" I've very had. The keyboard fits my hands now. The battery is so amazing. I am blown away.
The camera is what I've always wanted in a phone now I have something to hopefully learn with. I am not missing anything. I actually believe I will be able to quit fiddling with things and learn with this this thing.

In partial to the note since I have owned all 5! It is truly a great phone.. Awesome build, super fast, great camera, fingerprint sensor is very fast, perfect screen, and as always in an spen guy so that's awesome too.
Battery life is a good as the 4 for me and I'm a super power user.

This is my first Note, but certainly not my first large Android phone. I've had dozens of Android phones going all the way back to the OG T-Mobile G1. My most recent phone was the OnePlus One which I carried for a year and was very happy with.
As for the Note... I LOVE it! The screen is truly breathtaking, even coming from the OnePlus One which had a great screen. The camera is seriously what I've been waiting for since 2008... THIS is how a phone camera should be. The fingerprint reader is pretty cool and it's the first time I've ever used a security lockscreen on a phone and been happy with it. Battery life has been on par/maybe slightly better than the OnePlus One which had 100mah more capacity.
One thing that caught me totally off guard is how many software features this phone has that I've never seen in any other Android. My last Samsung was a S3, so TouchWiz has changed a lot since those days.
With all that said, this is the first Android phone I've had in AGES with a locked bootloader and no modding community. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I didn't realize this was the case until after my order had been placed. There are some things from custom roms that I immediately miss and wish I could get back like: double tap to wake, silent volume adjustment, linked ringtone and notification volumes(I did fix this with Tasker), and some others.
Another thing I'm bummed about... the clear cover over the camera flash and pulse sensor is made of crappy plastic and mine has scratches all over it already just from wiping it off with my Tshirt. Really bummed about this. I usually keep my phones looking brand new for at least 8-10 months and this one is scratched in 3 days.

Although there's been a lot of comparison criticisms between the Note 4 and Note 5, the Note 5 exceeds the note 4. One of the complaints is the 3000mah battery. While the Note 4 does have more (3250mah), the Note 5 actually outlasts the Note 4. This is both measured AND real-time use. So, while in some cases "size matters", efficiency is what comes into play with the Note 5. I also just read that the Note 5 has the best display of ALL smartphones currently on the market. I think most negative criticisms of the Note 5 is spec based and not real-time use based. WhIle some may think Samsung focused more on hardware, they did come up with a more efficient and better functioning device with the Note 5.

I had the note 3 back then, jumped on the Apple boat, and a few more devices including the oppo find 7a. But after much thinking, I was aiming for the edge plus, but considering I like to jot down stuff instead of typing, I went ahead and chose the note 5. Besides that, the camera allows you to almost control all settings manually which is a big plus for us photographers. Also, you still get the awesome tricks with the gestures and such. The battery life to me seems average, even though it has the qhd display, it holds its ground against similar screen phones.
Charging is very quickly now compared to my other phones. The body is quite a new style, and much more pro looking.
Overall great phone, but it comes down to personal choice if you want to choose this or the edge plus. Good luck!

I sent mine back. I've had a lot of phones, and I've never sent one back. The main reasons I bought it were, in order of importance: 1) Fingerprint reader 2) Better
camera 3) Better display.
The fingerprint reader didn't work great for me. I found it just about as annoying as having to enter a pin or gesture unlock.
I have an LG G3, so I'm used to big phones, but this thing feels so heavy, and is just big enough that it doesn't fit in places where my G3 does.
The display and camera are nice, but not incredibly better (I know lots of people complain about the G3 display, but I think it's fine if you turn the brightness up).

I like the fact that the people who own one, are really liking their device. The Note 4 got a good amount of negative feedback when it was first announced but nothing like the 5. Like most cases, it's easy to point out flaws before even testing the device. On the way now to Verizon to pick mine up.
64g Black is what I'm going for. What did everyone else get?

I had the S6 edge before this phone and honestly its killing the Note 5 for me. The screen on the S6 seems more vibrant and clear than on the Note5. Also somehow the camera (which im told is the same on both phones) seems to take better low light pics with the galaxy vs the note. The differences are small and its still a great phone but i may end up back with the S6... Im gonna give it a few more days and see how i feel

Was told last Friday not to pre-order because I wouldn't receive my device until past 8/24 and was guaranteed that the Verizon stores around me would have 64g Friday morning. Turns out none around me have them... Thanks Verizon!

Been enjoying the phone a lot recently after switching from my iPhone 6 Plus and being on Apple phones ever since the iPhone 4. The only issue I have is apparently my battery life is bad because I used to get through a full day with my iPhone and would have roughly 30% left when I went to sleep. I've been finding out recently that I have to charge the Note 5 during the day in order to last as long. The system predicts my battery will be dead by 9 PM tonight which I thought was kinda short.. I'm not a super heavy user so I don't know what's causing it to die quicker than normal, nothing in power usage hints at what it is either..

a difference of (+)7.1 x (+)1.5 x (-)1.3 mm from the G3. The width should feel essentially the same, 1.5mm difference is going to be close to imperceptible. 7mm extra height is enough for you to notice, but not enough to really make a difference for most people. and it's thinner so it should fit in pockets or slim places easier.
The only major difference is weight, 149g vs 171g.
I'm not sure why you seem to think the note5 is bigger because it is, but by 7.1mm at the most compared to the G3, I dont know if I believe you when you say it doesn't fit in the same places as the G3, a difference of 7mm shouldnt be enough to do that.

Sell Galaxy S6 then buy Nexus 6P?

I have the same dilemna with the case of the oneplus two. The Galaxy S6 for me would have been perfect if it weren't for the damn UI stuttering of TouchWiz.
With regards to the specifications and software experience, do you think I should sell my galaxy s6 and get me a Nexus 6P or Oneplus 2? Opinions would be greatly appreciated. 2 things are holding me back, the beastly Exynos chip and the Camera.

I'd sell it for the 6p. The picture quality from the camera should be very close to the S6 and even though the exynos is the better chipset, touchwizz is still stuttery (as u claim) whereas the S810 Nexus 6P has been said to be extremely smooth/fluid.

When S6 released, I watched Galaxy Unpack live and I was very very excited. I was going to buy S6 but one thing hold me off. THE CLOSED SOURCE EXYNOS. And of course, locked bootloader.
According to DxOMark, Camera differences between S6 and Nexus 6P are small.

According to this, you should never miss your shots with S6 while you hold 6P's camera.
And what's the purpose of "beastly Exynos" when it lags in UI?
Comparing 6P to S6 and One Plus Two, for me 6P is winner for following reasons:
1. More durable body.
2. Stereo front facing speakers.
3. More active aftermarket development. Means a lot of cool stuff for 6P(Roms, kernels, tweaks, etc)
4. Seems like 6P has better battery than One Plus Two and S6 (Wait for GSM Arena's battery test. Those are the most accurate battery tests.)
5. Better screen that One Plus Two, however it comes toe to toe with S6. The only ones who complain about screen of 6P are PhoneArena guys, seems like they forgot to turn off adaptive brightness or turn on sRGB mode.
6. More stable and lagfree OS.
7. Fastest updates.
8. Using Android the way it meant to be used.

I would definitely recommend the 6p. I own an S6, and I can fully relate to the Touchwiz issues. All Nexus devices are made to give the user the smoothest, fastest experience possible. Uninhibited by 3rd party layers and skins that can slow everything down. The hardware and software are both high-end enough on the 6p to meet or beat the S6, so you wouldn't be sacrificing anything by switching. Also, you can't beat being first in line to receive security and other updates!

Read an article testing cell reception s6 and 2 other phones, no 6p but another huwei phone - s6 was horrible.
A couple have mentioned reception on the 6p is fantastic - which is supposedly a strong point for huwei (or however you spell it!) devices.
That would be enough for me to sell.

I've done just this, sold my S6 to buy a nexus. The goods on the S6 were very good - design, size, screen, camera. The bads similarly were very bad - software, ram management, battery.
Bloated horrible mess. So I have got the 6p now to try out. The screen is not as good as the s6, the camera is close but not equal to the s6 but the software experience on the 6p wipes the floor with the s6. I'd not hesitate to sell the S6 to get either of the new nexus phones.

This is my plan to sell S6 as soon as I go the 6P. S6 has been great so far, it took amazing photos. However, I really can't stand for the battery life. I basically has to put on battery save mode everyday. The touch wiz has been improved a lot, but it somehow still managed to slow the phone down after a while.

I owned the S6 and sold it for a Nexus 6P, im not going to ***** about the S6 because it was a great little phone. I just prefer a bigger handset and a better modding scene

In process of selling my S6. The battery life and junk AT&T and Samsung have on it is abysmal and battery is even worse. I shouldn't have to spend hours disabling and turning off features to get the phone battery to last more than a few hours. I actually went back to my Nexus 6 and the Galaxy S6 has been sitting in the drawer

The exynos chip shouldn't be a reason to keep the phone. Its crap and locked down
No dev support and Knox... One plus 2 has its flaws with customer support and buggy software only advantage I see is the dual SIM . 6p is imho best android phone out.

Odd that you would say this and yet I'm reading it on my unlocked, rooted, debloated, knox removed S6 with a custom rom derived from the development that doesn't exist using that crap exynos chip you mentioned that rides at or near the top of the leaderboard in nearly every measurable performance category. lol
Not that the concept in general doesn't have merit as the stock rom does hitch up here and there and thats a shame on such excellent hardware but there is no reason to kick objectivity and factual information to the curb.
To the thread in general I have the S6 and I'm getting this phone but I'll be moving on come spring. I love the Nexus line but I have never made friends with phablet sizing and I'll tire of this phones size after a short while just like I did with all the other phablets I've owned. It is rather irritating to me that my preferred size is the 5 to 5.2 range and this seems to be more and more relegated to the mid range but I'm hopeful that come spring one of the 820 offerings will come with flagship hardware in the 5ish inch range. Of course come next fall I'll jump on the N5/6.1P or whatever it will be called because I'll miss the Nexus line and its unrivaled support. I've owned all but the second, forget what that one was called?
One other thing that jumps out at me about the P is the lack of wireless charging. I'm completely converted over to it for ordinary day to day use and have pads around the house and holders in the cars and on my boat. I do like to have quick charge by whatever name for those moments where you need to pump some quick batt so one is not a replacement for the other. Not a deal breaker but it rides over on the con side for me.
Most of the other stuff mentioned here seems like advantage P or a push to me but the camera is still a question in my mind. It has been reviewed well but none of the reviews I've seen so far have mentioned much about its ability to take a "snap" shot. You know, the one where the moment is there and you take the shot or miss it because its gone forever. No set up, no time to make adjustments. The S6 is as good as I've experienced at that kind of shot. I can usually expect such a picture to be in focus and have reasonably good exposure and so on. Not art, not perfect, but pretty darn good. The P may be just as good or better so I'm not calling it out just saying I haven't seen any reviewers or users here talking about this aspect of the cameras performance.
Did I mention I hate that the flagship hardware is more and more becoming available only in the phablet sizing?

This or the nexus 6p?

I'm getting tired of the horrible camera from my note 3 and really bad build quality, so I'm thinking of getting a new flagship phone and pass my note to my girlfriend.
At the moment, I'm deciding between the nexus 6p and the newly released Galaxy s7 edge.
I used some AOSP roms on my Samsung and I fell in love with them, the ui was incredibly smooth and minimalistic, everything was flying except for the camera performance and poor battery life because somehow touchwizz had better drivers. I would really love a stock android rom on the premium body of the 6p, but I'm planning to use this phone for a long time, at least 3 years. So I was wondering if the s7 edge wouldn't be a better option, since it has better specs and should be more future proof.
How is the snapdragon 810 compared to the exynos 8890? Is the exynos much better?

I'm just afraid the nexus is too big for me, as i like typing with one hand...

With just 0.2" more and a just slightly bigger bezel at the nexus 6p, there isn't that much of a size difference between the two.
When it comes to fluidity, sure both serve a great experience as well. I at least haven't faced any fluidity problems at my G935F within the 2 days I own it and I used it pretty much including playing XCOM and FF9 which both take nice load on the device (it even just gets slightly warm at those games, I only barely noticed it even while it was something I actively checked for). But it's most likely not that much different at the nexus 6p.
The 6p is when it comes to updates more future proof, because it will get them sooner and as it is atm a year longer than the galaxy family (nexus update policy is about 3 years, samsung is known for supporting devices for 2 years, on the other hand, by being mostly open source nexus devices can have a much longer update lifetime through the community and custom roms, galaxy devices as well, but escpecially at exynos devices it is much harder). On the other hand does the s7 ship with vulkan api support already, what is more or less the next big thing in gaming.
When it comes to bare bones benchmark performance, the exynos has the upper hand pretty easily (about 50% better overall performance at antutu).

Had to make the same decision as my old phone died recently. I had the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 5. Now I ended up with the S7 edge. I think it is fair to say that the phone aim for a different type of consumer.
As I was at the university I wanted to have a cheaper phone, with a lot of customization. Also something I could "work" with, e.g. flash and modify.
Now I wanted to have something more "solid". I am not interested in flashing anymore, but something that is and looks like some value. With good camera and good performance (I did not notice the occasional lag nor would a frame lost while scrolling bother me that much).
Thus, I ended up buying the S7.

After having the 6P since it came out, I can say it's really not that great - I'm getting my S7 Edge tomorrow and look forward to using a much smaller phone, with a much better display and camera.

If you're using it for 3 years, then I'd go nexus. I'd get very sick of slow updates and TouchWiz in 3 years. The decision came down to this for me: Updates, development, and front facing speakers or nicer design, best specs available, and SD card.

I feel like there is a huge size difference between the 6p and s7 edge. 6p feels massive now when I hold it whereas the s7 edge is much better suited for one-hand use.
Overall you can't really go wrong with either. The nexus does feel a bit more fluid when navigating / using apps but it's barely noticeable, and it will receive timely updates. The samsung has the better display, camera, and battery. I think the only thing I really miss from the nexus is the fingerprint reader on the back.

I had the Nexus 6p for two weeks before the metal case buckled near the volume rocker, google it, it's a common problem. I returned it in favor of the S7E.
On the Nexus I loved the fingerprint reader location, front facing speakers and stock Android but I wasn't banking on the hardware lasting 2yrs given that it started to fail after two weeks.

Sorry for OT, but what is as much better at locating it on the back. I really like it at the front, it's pretty natural to use the thumb to unlock the device while in hand. Maybe slightly less as while it was on the back with the index finger, but I get the ability to also unlock it while the device is lying on the table, what is a big plus for my opinion...

This exactly. It's a great device, hardware wise. However that little size difference DOES make a difference. It's just a hair too long and wide to be comfortable sitting with in in jeans of any sort...and the stock android experience is nice, but a bit overhyped, at least for me. I also found it to be a rather plain, and boring device. Took GREAT photos and i loved the placement of the fingerprint sensor, but ultimately I let it go to get the S7 Edge.

One thing to consider, if you're not going to root it, go with the S7E. I had the Nexus 6P and I can't root due my work app detecting it (even with xposed) and it's just so vanilla that I got pretty bored with it. Even iOS seems to have more options than stock Android. The S7E has a ton of features baked in that are fun to play with.
If you can root though and install ROM's like PA, CM, etc... then the Nexus 6P might be the best way to go.

I sold my 6p the same day I got my s7 edge. To me they are both just as fast. After owning several Samsung and a couple nexus phone I can't believe how fluid and smooth the s7 edge is. As others have stated the 6p did feel a little bigger and harder to manage than the s7 edge. Both are great phones. I don't regret my decision at all.

If you use your phones for 2-3 years, the S7 might be slightly more future proof because of the great processor be it SD or Exynos, plus 4gb of RAM that should account for at least 2 years of usage imo, and you get the SD card storage so you would probably need to get at least the 64GB 6P in order for it to be slightly future proof.

I've owned the 6P and the 5X so I'll pipe in on this as well. The 6P is a GREAT device when it comes to updates and having the backing of the dev community. If you don't like something about the user experience, you can bet there is something out there that will allow you to modify whatever it is you're griping over. I never had a problem with the hardware and the camera was surprisingly GOOD!
It is, however, a pretty girthy device. When comparing it to the S7 Edge, it's really not even a comparison. The 6P footprint is larger and much more difficult to use one handed. I found myself having to use to do some thumb gymnastics to reach the corners and I'd like to think I have some decent sized hands.
At the end of the day, it boils down to your preference. If you can stomach TW, then get the Galaxy. If you're #TeamStock all the way then the Nexus is for you.

It just felt a lot more natural in the back and the sensor is more accurate. Not to take anything from the gs7 edge fingerprint sensor which is pretty good but definitely not as good as the nexus.

Erhh.. Still cant decide.
Nexus pros are:
- faster updates
- front facing speakers
- cheaper
Galaxy pros are:
- beautiful

Thanks for all the replies guys, I decided to buy the nexus in the end.
Here's why: I will use it for at least 3 years, so the constant updates are a big plus. Also, even if it has lower specs then the s7, the software is much more optimized. No matter how fluid and smooth touchwiz has become, no Samsung in this world runs better then stock android on the latest nexus flagship.
And even if it has slightly lower specs then the s7, they are still more then enough for what I'm planning to use it for: Internet browsing, YouTube, Facebook, clash of clans and taking pictures (I read that the camera is great).
The reason I'll be using it this much is that the store I buy it from, here in Romania, offers the possibility to get 1 or 2 more years of warranty, aside from the 2 years the device already comes with. And if do I get extra warranty, it becomes premium warranty. This means: if my device breaks and needs to be sent for repair, they send a courier to my door to pick the product for me, free of charge and free shipping. And if they don't fix the device within 5 working days, I can get a full refund of the initial price. That's right, after let's say 3 years, when this phone will be worth around 200-300$ in used condition, I can get the full 570$ I initially payed, if they can't fix the phone.
I already did that with my nexus 10 after a year, then got enough money to get the note 3. My note still has 2 more years and a few months of warranty, in which time I'm 100% positive that it will eventually break.
The note goes to my girlfriend and I decided that I want a new phone, a premium one that I'll be using for a long time while I have the 4 years warranty.

If you can't afford an Edge, go with a 6P.

Preordered the HTC 10, But Also looking at the s7e What to do?

Hi everyone. I apologize if this type of post is not allowed. I have been mulling over the s7e SNAPDRAGON and the HTC 10 for the past 2 weeks. Id buy the s7e on swappa so price is the same.
The biggest things for me are software feel, camera, and battery. I like stock android alot. So the htc 10 looks sweet. But then theres samsungs theme engine. Now Im coming from and S4 so theming was light if any. What I'm seeing from the s7e blows my mind. The only reason I used to room my s4 was for different themes so no root on the 820 doesnt bother me especially with the new theme engine. The fact it themes everything is amazing. Not sure if the HTC 10 does this or not but with stock android look its not as important but it would be nice to change it up every once in a while.
The camera on both of these phones look amazing. Expecially the low light. I know the s7e is a little better in low light but its not a huge enough difference to completely be the deciding factor for me. The focus speed on the s7e looks absolutely insane. I do like the over saturated look of the pics on the s7e but not the yellowish tint. Video also looks very stable and not shakey. The htc 10 looks to be on par with video.
Battery life looks like something the s7e beats the 10 easily. Ive seen the 10 get anywhere from 4-5 sot. The s7e 820 seems to get above 5 hrs sot? right? anyone chime in on this. On reddit and the forums its hard to tell sometimes if its exynos or 820.
Does the s7e ever get hot or warm to the touch? my s4 feels like a burning rock in my pocket sometimes lol. Hows tw lag? is it alot better than it used to be? or is it just good out of the box then it shows up again?
Speaker quality isnt a huge deal as all i watch are youtube videos or plug my phone into my car.
Updates are another thing that bothers me also. HTC has a very good record of updating phones fast. Samsung not so much. Well more so the carriers. The htc 10 i have preordered is unlocked. The S7e Id get is Tmobile variant. Id try to get exynos but Id like to get a phone with the manufactures warranty. Also hear the exynos is hard to get repaired as Samsung doesnt like to repair it in the USA.
The whole usb c vs micro doesnt bother me much but I do like that C seems to be more sturdy and durable.
so what doesnt everyone think I should do? Whats your experience compared to what Ive heard? Are my thots right? to servere? am I way off? All imput is welcome Anyone here in the same position or leaving the s7e for the 10? or just decided on the s7e over the 10 and why?

- As far as camera and battery goes, I think the S7 Edge has a clear edge Dual-pixel tech in a smartphone is a very big deal, Canon still saves this technology for their very best cameras.
- Battery - 3600 vs 3000 mAh - enough said.
- Screen efficiency - AMOLED vs TFT (that's why you get great SOT on the S7 Edge, but poor standby times on the SD820)
- Wireless charging if you want to protect your USB port over time.
- Much better technical support if you need it (hopefully not). Much better country presence.
- If the Always-On Display will ever be upgraded to display all notifications (not only missed calls and SMS messages) this will be a huge pro

- Always-on fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor needs home button press to work on the S7, which is stupid in 2016. It should be always-on. So I have it disabled, if it would be touch-only I would enable it.

thanks for the reply How has ur experience been with touchwiz? Any lag? do you have the sd820? what sot do you usually get? Screen size isnt a huge deal for me .3 inches. Id rather have the battery life instead of AOD. Im not sure if id use wireless charging. The extra charging option would be nice incase but i always worry that the battery degrades faster over time with wireless charging. Having to clock the fingerprint home button is a negative for me. My s4 made an annoying crunch sounds when it was click. Its it a more shallow click now? Same for me I dont care really about speakers so there moot on the 10. Also for me its sense ui and faster updates vs Touchwiz and slow updates.

I have the Exynos.
I never hated TouchWiz and I think it is ok, no lag whatsoever, but I use Nova Launcher solely because I need double-tap to sleep. But I do have a dark theme set overall and it's great. Theming is a major plus.
The difference in screen size is big, around 20% in surface area. I had a 5.2" LG G2 and it's very noticeable.
The button clicking sound is bad enough and the press is not shallow. Home button is also raised (stupidly, should be sunken) and it could click in your pocket if you don't have a proper case. But I found a workaround, I hold the phone in the front pocket with the upper part down, this almost eliminates the issue.
About the updates, I don't really care, because it works really well as it is (except for the last update which ruined battery life for Exynos and made it similar to SD820). However, for the record, the International version received like 3-4 updates since launch, each brought something new (some good things, some really bad things).

Coming from someone who ended up hating touch wiz, I really dig it this time around. It's so much closer to stock and cleaner. They did good with it this time. I'm also coming from the HTC One M7 and M8, and I have zero interest in the 10.
The camera in the S7 blows away the HTC. I've seen a lot of screenshots of the HTC, and that and the S7 next to each other, and the HTC is actually fairly grainy. Pretty unacceptable, especially the last 4 phones, new one included having a bad camera. The S7 pictures are incredibly clear, the best I have seen on a phone personally. And the low-light is crazy.
The speaker on the S7 is actually very loud and fairly clear.
The screen size is much better on the S7 Edge. Plus the phone is almost the same size, another thing I hated about the HTC phones, they waste sooo much space on the phone.
The Edge places app is pretty convenient. It sets different settings on your phone based on location and/or WiFi/Bluetooth. Works great for me since I always forget to silence my phone when I get to work.
Can't say much about battery life in comparison since I have not read any real, long-term reviews on the HTC. But my S7 Edge gets nearly two full days in between charges on the regular.
Updates... I don't agree with you there regarding HTC. I have NEVER gotten an Android update within their 90 day BS. And that seems to be solely for new Android versions. Any updates to Android seem to either come way later than that, or never. My One M8 updated to Lollipop in March '15, then didn't get another update until December-which was not to fix anything, just Stagefright. And Lollipop did NOT work well at all, and HTC left us behind and wouldn't fix anything that was broken. That's where they really lost me.

Well, their lack of doing something new for one. The M7 I think looked the best and was the best size. The 8 just got larger without much added to screen size. The camera was really bad. And this new one seems more of the same to me. All they did was chamfered the back, otherwise is identical to the M8 and M9, then they changed the front to look just like every other Android phone now, except the top and bottom bars are obnoxiously big.
Honestly, the biggest is definitely them leaving us in the dark with updates and letting our phones go on not working right indefinitely. You just can't decide to stop supporting your phones and customers if you want to stay in business. The M8 didn't even need the latest Android, it just needed HTC software fixes to make it work, but those never happened...
Anyway, to each their own. The 10 may be a bada$$ phone. I'm just really loving this Edge.

Snapdragon for Verizon. I had to meddle with the settings a bit, but I get nearly two full days every charge. I'm a fairly moderate user though, not really any gaming, just a lot of email (work), fitness stuff, and Facebook/LinkedIn/etc.

Due to HTC being only 5.2 i've gone with S7E bigger screen but i still hate TW.

S7 vs. S5 What should I get?

I am switching from Verizon to AT&T so I need to get a new phone. Since AT&T doesn't offer Motorola smartphones, I have narrowed my choices down to the S7 and S5 (or maybe the S5 active). I have looked at the specs for both and they seem pretty close. I am not a heavy phone user, mostly just Facebook, email, Pandora, and a few games here and there. Also need a decent camera. Trying to decide if the S7 is worth the extra money over the S5. What is everyone's thoughts? Thank you.
P.S. I am not looking at the S6 due to lack of a SD card slot.

I would go for the S7. I just upgraded to it and i like it better (although there is no root, but if you get a new S5 you won't be able to root anyhow) the camera is 10 times better on the S7 i think (it's like looking through a window) the S7 is reportedly capable of reading the new 200gb mini SD. Overall i like it better (again other than root)

I had an S5 for the past couple years. Decided to upgrade this week. It came down to the S7, S7 Edge, and LG G5. I love the concept behind the G5. The modular accessories are a brilliant idea. However, I don't think that's something I'm willing to jump into right away. I expect it'll take a year or so to get all the kinks worked out. So I came down to the S7 or Edge. Similar to the G5, I think the edge screen is a brilliant idea, but I still think it's gonna take some time to take full advantage of that. Plus, I'm not big on the phablet craze. So I ended up going with the smallest of the 3 phones, but still has the same CPU, RAM, etc. as the other 2. I figured it would fit better in my pocket and wouldn't be as fragile as I expect the edge to be with the curved glass. I have always rooted my phones, and the S5 was no exception. I pushed that thing to the edge and really liked the phone. I picked up my S7 today. And let me tell you, although I'm disappointed I can't root it (yet), stock right out of the box it crushes my S5 in performance. The camera is leaps and bounds better, as has been previously reported. Especially in low light situations. And the new Snapdragon is as incredible as the reviews imply. With the 4GB RAM. This thing flies as smooth as butter. But probably the biggest factor to me, is that it's waterproof without relying on that annoying flap and has the regular quick charge micro USB instead of the awkward USB 3.0 charging port before. It was always a headache plugging in my S5 in the dark, but the S7 has no such issue. I also think aesthetically it's a much better looking phone. But that's simply opinion. Though I liked the removable battery of the S5, the S7 back just looks FAR more refined. Especially in the Platinum Gold color I chose. The ONLY complaints with this phone is the lack of a removable battery and not being able to root. But it is definitely fast enough without root. But the quick charging capability compensates for not being able to remove the battery, and I expect some genius devs to figure out root in the near future. I avoided the S6 because they took away the removable battery, the microSD card, AND waterproofing. Even the Snapdragron last year sucked. The S7 is what the design change SHOULD have been. It's a nearly perfect phone

Rooting is Greek to me. lol Not even 100% sure what it means or is. I have always carried my phones on my belt so fitting in a pocket is not an issue. My current phone does not have a removable battery either, but lacks a SD slot which I HATE. Does the S7 as the normal micro charge slot? I already have a number of those chargers and don't want to get different chargers. I will be putting an Otterbox case on whatever phone I get so looks are not very important. Thank you.

yes it does. With the Quickcharge 2.0. I look forward to USB-C becoming the standard (it will even be used for laptop chargers. It will revolutionize electronics in time. But it's still young tech right now), I think Samsung was right to do the charger this way for now. Plus the new Qi quickchargers are incredibly efficient. Which is an added convenience I haen't even taken advantage of yet. Rooting, to put it simply, is giving the user access to the very base directory of the phone. You can use apps and features like ad-blocking and run custom operating systems with many features. The dev community created many features on rooted phones that we now see in the stock versions of Android years early. I don't believe Android would have advanced as far as it has so quickly without end-user devs rooting their phones. Rooting used to be very complicated compared to how simple devs have made it in recent years. But it was great. You could put custom kernels (essentially CPU settings) that would overclock it when running apps that need the power, and then underclock it when not. Features that are now included in the stock Android experience. Almost every reason I originally rooted my phones are now features baked into stock Android, so it's not as big a deal to not be able to root IMO. But I do still want the option at least. But if you have no desire to root, that's all the more reason I'd suggest the S7 for you. Running stock it is a BEAST. There's not even the slightest hint of lag anywhere using it. Though I don't know you at all, I don't believe you will be disappointed in the slightest by choosing the S7

After looking phones over a few days ago, I ended up with the S7. I have figured most of it out and still learning as I go. I do have one question though. How do I do a screen shot? It is not the same as my pervious phone. I looked in the manual, but did not find it. Thank you

You can also screen shot using your hand. Go to settings, advanced features, Palm swipe to capture, and turn it on. It shows you how to capture a screen shot by swiping your hand across the screen. I prefer this method. It seems easier to me.

S7 is far better then s5.

I still have my rooted and rom'd S5, no comparison, S7 is in another league in every way.

I had a Moto X Pure (2015), which I naturally rooted and installed a custom kernel. A friend dropped the darn thing and cracked the screen and busted the touchscreen. I thought I would have been so incredibly disappointed with the S7 due to the lack of rooting and whatever Samsung calls Touchwiz these days.
The last galaxy phone I owned was the Note 3. I didn't have it for long before I ditched it for the original Moto X. Since, I've owned all three iterations of the Moto X. Leaving what was basically a stock Android experience seemed unfathomable. Nonetheless, it would have been cheaper to use an upgrade (which I had for some time thanks to me always buying my phones unlocked through motomaker).
I too looked at the G5, S7, and S7 edge. I didn't like the feel or design of the G5. Also, the 2015 Moto X was just too damn big. Thusly, the edge was out of the running. I left the store with a black S7. Holeesheet Batman, this thing is gorgeous. The jump from the 808 with 3gb of RAM (in the X Pure) to the 820 with 4gb of RAM shows tremendous performance benefits.
The leap ahead to the 14nm process behind the 820 simply cannot be physically beaten by the 808's 22nm process, even with stock Android or overclocking and all the other bits that can come with a custom kernel. Not to mention, the 820 in my S7 has 2 fewer cores than the 808 in my X.
I'm happy with this phone. It flies through everything. The animations in the play store, and other apps, are much smoother than any other phone I've owned. The camera cannot be understated. My girlfriend, who is a professional photographer, is jealous of the performance compared to that of her iPhone. It won't produce photos better than her DSLR camera, but she can't put her Canon DSLR in her pocket.

I'm not sure I'd want to get an s7 unless its the 930f international model, I'm not a fan of quad HD on phones, I'm perfectly fine with 1080. My S5 and one plus one serve me well.
