Hi.
Has anybody already tried flashing the Galaxy S7 Edge with Heimdall (multi-platform alternative to odin)?
Can somebody say if it's working? Otherwise I have to completely install Windows on my Laptop
Second, also wondering this

Would you be so kind testing this for me so I'm on the save side? [emoji16] Just kidding.
In this moment I'm preparing to install Windows on a usb HDD via vbox raw image. Because I don't want to risk errors by trying to flash on a virtual machine. Let's see if this works. Otherwise my Linux bootloader would be killed if I have to install it on my internal HDD.

Heimdall is a low level flasher, and It should work as long as you can install the S7 MSM8996 or S8 MSM8998 QC drivers.

You can use heimdall but don't know how install it and having graphic UI...odin can works with wine but personally my phone wasn't detected by the software,so i advice you to flash with windows is the easiest way ;-)

tried it but wine doesn't support usb
I heard about heimdall too.
Trying to get the usb to work in wine. Had to install some stupid drivers on my old windows too so...
check it wiki_winehq_org/USB
(replase _ on .)
heimdall seems to be written for the SGS, it might work for our phone too, but that probably depends on how its flashed, ie. the partitioning. If the ops files for both phones are the same (or its the same for what parts of the firmware we would flash) it should work. If somebody has tried it with our phone I'd gladly like to know, since I also use linux (dual-boot) and i would definitely flash more (like I used to) if I could flash in linux.
I'll probably do some research and then try flashing on monday if nobody comes forth with their experiences.
P.S. I guess a virtual machine would also work, if you want to bother with that.
edit: heimdall is not our solution

Hi all,
I'm trying to upgrade firmware with Heimdall on a Samsung Galaxy i5800. I boot it into download mode with home+menu+volume down+power, then start heimdall, which says:
Claiming interface... Success
Setting up interface... Success
Beginning session...
Handshaking with Loke... Failed!
What am I doing wrong?
TIA!
edit: I enabled verbose mode, and now I see the error:
Handshaking with Loke... Failed!
ERROR: Failed to receive response

Sorry Heimdall only supports Galaxy S devices. Unfortunately older series of phones use a different version of the Loke flashing protocol.

Unfortunately, no. Heimdall only supports Galaxy S devices. Other devices still seem to be using an older version of the flashing protocol, which is quite different.

The demand is not the issue.

Hmm you think. Because if this particular phone sold millions and there were lots more people who wanted to root it there would be an root option for certain.

Demand doesn't make exploits pop up.

The more demand there is for exploits the more people you will have looking for exploits. There is no demand at this point

I think I bricked my Galaxy S5 Active G870A Lollipop 5.1.1
So I tried to downgrade my phone to Kit Kat and thought I had followed the instructions. I installed Odin and ran it the way I was instructed and it passed. I tried to flash the updates needed via external SD card and the updates seemed to be going well. Yet just before its done I see this red error "sideload install/*something* error (Status 7). My friend and have tried presumably everything but it won't flash the stock or any other ROM. If I'm in boot mode and try to use Odin it will fail with Fail Auth Success 0/Failed 1. Not sure what I can do. Any help would be great. Again Odin does not seem to work. Also, if I can't fix it would AT&T replace it with the insurance I have.
you CAN NOT downgrade, take it to at&t dealer and pray
Hello
Recently a purchased a TP-Link WN722N WiFi adapter and an OTG Adapter on eBay so I could perform Pen-testing from my phone using Linux Deploy with Ubuntu or Kali Linux. I hooked everything up, but iwconfig nor ifconfig shows the wifi adapter. Running lsusb shows the adapter, however. But since I can't get it to mount as a network interface, I can't use it for Pen-testing. I saw a few people on some other sites saying that you need to recompile a kernel for your device WITH the device drivers, and then reflash the new kernel, but that's not really an option for me since I have a CID11 chip and a locked bootloaders?
Amy help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Only way this will be possible for you is to have an unlocked bootloader.
I can tell you that it definitely does work with Kali Nethunter.

Dang. My S5 is one of two of my only OTG compatible devices. The other is a Verizon Moto E 2015 XT1528, which can't even be rooted, nevermind an unlocked bootloader.
So there's no way to install the Atheros drivers without flashing a custom kernel? Couldn't I just start the drivers while inside of Linux, I dunno.
Thanks anyway. Cheers

That would require a loadable kernel module. Which is indeed possible for sure.
But the s5 kernel will not even allow you to load any kernel modules.
Sorry man.
But I did just come across this when investigating your moto E http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e-2015/general/guide-unlock-bootloader-moto-e-2015-t3045748
not sure if you've seen it before or not.
It seems that it doesn't support unlocking the VZW Model's bootloader. Thanks anyway though :3. Big Red always has to mess things up.

Hi all
How are you?
I'm wondering as to whether I can root and install a recovery and custom rom on my galaxy s5 sm-g900i using a mac pc I've read about the installation of Heimdall though it appears to be incompatible with my mac El capitan osx.
If I could get some guidance it would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Thanks for that.
I have though unfortunately I'm unable to install this Heimdall which appears to be incompatible with my mac version El Capitan. I think that I'll head over to mums house and download Odin and attempt to install TWRP on a Windows PC.
Oh, yeah man. If all it takes for you is a drive and for you to use your moms computer, just do that. Far simpler IMHO.
Thanks will do, I'll close this thread, I need to ask a separate question in another thread now as I'm still slightly confused (though for a different issue).
Hello guys! I'm kinda new here. I have this big problem. How can I update my Samsung s7 edge at&t to the latest nougat update while I'm in Europe? G935AUCS2APE1 is the baseband Version. Thanks in advance and I hope I'm in the right section.

Look for a thread where you posted with BQA6 Odin files. It has a full guide.
Odin Program
http://samsungodin.com/
Odin Files
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=71343011
Adb installer
https://androidmtk.com/download-15-seconds-adb-installer
Here are the files for an ATT phone. I'll link the guide too...
Can't find the link but you need to download adb installer, a Google search will bring up a quick installer, then you need to download odin, I believe the latest will work, then boot to download mode which is reboot, hold the home/volume down/and power button after the Samsung shutdown screen goes away. Put the files where they belong into odin and flash. Each file will be listed as AP, CSC, BL and I forget the 4th. Easy peasy.

I haven't had the experience of hiemdall since the first Galaxy. Why don't you download the files and find a windows computer? Put them on a flash drive. No one has mentioned that program in these threads that I've seen.

I tried everything with two different windows laptop as well but it doesn't work... I would like to install android 8.0. I followed step by step the guide but nothing... dev_type problem.
If you want to update your (i'm just assuming) S7 Edge from AT&T you could check this link (here should've been a url link but apperently i can't attach links because i don't have 10 posts ) just search for androidfilehost on google (and search for G935A if you have an AT&T phone or search for the model number in setting s> about phone > software information > Baseband version *the first 5 are the model number*) , with all of the updates working , i am using the latest one uploaded by ITSAJUJA , they're working all you need is odin , you gotta unzip the zip file , plug in your phone ,put the files in the correct order, have the phone in downloading mode with oem unlocked and usb debugging and you're all good to go. You can also search for other models on that site . I hope i was of any help . Have fun updating !
