The galaxy S3 has Bluetooth 4.0 , so it should have Bluetooth MAP right? My messaging is not working at all on my 2012 charger UConnect 8.4nav system (beats). I have heard that CM 7 has implemented it. What are the chances the SGS3 could get that put in by Samsung if it's not already there? If the SGS3 does have Bluetooth MAP how do I get it to work?

move this post to the new questions thread please.
Hopefully a Dev can add this to one of their roms but this unadresses issue will never get seen if this is not moved to the active section.

This isn't terribly helpful, but...
The Galaxy S III runs a Bluetooth MAP service and a message notification service. It also asked me for permission to access these services when I first paired (but I have not yet tested the MAP functionality).
It should work, and I would start by re-pairing and paying attention to the window prompts that come up.
messaging access profile not requested.
I tried pairing again looking for a popup that mentions messaging. the popup only asks for permissions for contacts and music. Messaging is never mentioned.
o I deleted the phone on the car stereo.
o I unpaired the stereo on the phone.
o I attempted to pair from the stereo but the stereo
automatically gives a pass code and tells you to
continue on the phone.
I'm using the standard messaging app, Are you using the AT&T messaging app?
What stereo are you getting it to work with?
Hi Guys,
i recently upgraded my S4 to a S5
My S4 connected to my car stereo as phone and as multimedia device, but my new s5 just wont connect as multimedia device.
It functions fine as telephone, but i cant get the multimedia option checked.
Is there some hidden option somewhere i'm missing ?.
I didn't have to do anything special for my S4 to connect as multimedia device.

Unfortunately you didn't give us any details of how you tried to pair your stereo to your phone. So we have nothing to work with, no way to point out a missed step or error.
Did you choose the appropriate pairing mode in your stereo menu? If you have continued difficulties, you should tell us what model your stereo is, your S5 firmware version and a detailed description of the steps you tried.

Unless your car stereo is A2DP compliant your phone wont use it for multimedia. Check that out.
This is driving me crazy.
I've spend a couple of hours now in the car trying everything i can think of.
A google search learned that I'm not the only one with this problem.
Clearing the Bluetooth cache didn't help, i installed this app but that didn't work also.
I popped my sim back into my old s4 and it connects perfectly as both phone and multimedia device, allowing me to play music from my phone on the car stereo system.
The car is a Toyota Prius 2012.
I've attached the specs of my new S5.
The S5 only connects as phone and not as multimedia device.
I also experienced BT trouble with S5 in my wife's Prius 2012. My iPhone connects with no problems, phone, multimedia, internet.
I tried to share S5's Internet but after asking/reading here found out that a vital file is missing, /system/bin/pand.
The reason why you don't get MM connection could be similar.

I copied a pand file (and the libbluetoothd.so) from a cyanogenmod image. it didn't help.
doing a logcat |grep bluetooth i noticed the following:
whenever i try to activate a mm connection from the phone to the car i get this line twice in the log file:
V/BluetoothEventManager(12390): Recieved android.bluetooth.a2dp.profile.action.CONNECTION_STATE_CHANGED
Since it's always twice, i think that it activates and immediately deactivates the a2dp connection to the car. looks like a programming error where you cant have 2 active bluetooth connections at the same time.
Hope they fix this really soon.
Not much help to you but I can get my UK S5 to connect fine to my factory car kit. I can connect for hands free, mp3 playback and as a modem for Internet all at once.

I contacted Toyota, there is an update available.
Going to the dealer on Friday, hope it fixes the problem.

You were able to share Internet via Bluetooth?
Yep. You have to enable tethering to get it to work with Command Online through.

Can you explain how in more detail?
Turn on the tethering option (search tethering in settings). Your car will connect to the phone for online access. This is how the 2013 model works.
I have the same problem with my S5 Duos. My Car is a Skoda Yeti. My Android Version is 5.0 Lollipop.
I also spent a couple of hours. Has anyone solved the problem.
I have a BMW X3 and a Samsung S5.
The phone isn't officially supported by the car's multimedia system so I'm looking for a work around.
I've installed Cyanogenmod ver. CM11 which has fixed the intermittent Bluetooth connection issues but I'd like the car's multimedia system to read email messages which worked fine on my older Blackberry devices.
I think I've narrowed down the issue to a Message Access Profile (MAP) issue between BMW and Samsung.
BMW confirms that the S4 is compatible so now my options are to flash a S4 rom onto my S5 or to figure out how to enable full support of Message Access Profile (MAP) on the S5/BMW.
Suggestions?
Whatever you do do not flash an S4 rom it will probably brick your phone!:good:
It says here that the S5 supports MAP.
Here's some google links of relevance
http://bit.ly/10gQtci
Verizon doesn't seem to know what it is http://vz.to/1mIJkeJ and tries to shift focus on to Samsung to evade answering the question. Lol
PS. a video about map
PPS. wrong section, should be in Q&A
So I looking around and it appears that the S5 is not mirrorlink capable in its current state (stock).
However when lollipop comes out its going to have built in mirrorlink support.
Anyone hear of this or can clarify this for me?
Mirror link is in the settings of lollipop on my s5

Without having the phone in front of me, I cannot see that. Can you please be a bit more specific about what you have and where you found it?

MirrorLink is supported now. You'll find it under "settings - connections - Connect and Share - MirrorLink".
I had my son look at his S5. It shows "screen mirroring". Is this Mirror Link? Or another software solution? You would think it would state "Mirror Link" if it was actually that software.
I was also talking to Samsung yesterday and they are saying the Lollipop push was due out already, but it should be coming any time now.

Mirrorlink is indeed on Galaxy S5 here in the uk but it wont connect with my pioneer headunit as it only supports mirrorlink 1.0 software and the S5 is 1.1 and pioneer cant or wont update the software to work with newer smartphones, it will work with an S3 but the mirroring is pretty basic tbh

It's on the S5 here in the states as well with the Lollipop upgrade. However, it doesn't work here either...at least not on a Pioneer Nex8000. It's time to start investigating other options outside Pioneer.
Mine dosn't work either. I have a VW headunit - Composition Media - and when I start MirrorLink only a black screen with a car connecting to a phone icon flashes and disappears. I'd like to debug the problem but can't connect my phone to the car and to my laptop simultaneously so I can read the logcat. How do I save the log to a file so I can read it later?
I got the operation of MirrorLink in Galaxy S5 , excuse the language , do not speak English , read-only.

Ordered the 6P last night, who knows when it will arrive. Wanted to see if anyone has paired a Gear S with the device to see how it works, what features don't work, etc. I currently have a Gear S paired with my Galaxy Note Edge.
I would like to know this as well. I have my 6P, and I am thinking about buying the Gear S.
I kind of got it working. Issue: if it's connected via bluetooth to your phone, any incoming calls you answer are through the watch (although incoming calls display on both devices). So, for now, I have bluetooth turned off. Since the watch has its own number, that's the only way to receive/make calls if you're not connected to your phone. I'm trying an SMS forwarding app so that text messages go to the watch as well as the phone, however the text shown on the watch comes from your phone's number, not who originally sent the text. Basically, I have the watch as a stand-alone device. The Gear Manager app doesn't work although you can get it installed on the phone..........just doesn't find the watch. There's a way to get your watch past the screen that says "use the Gear App to connect". On that screen you see an icon of the watch, tap on that about 25 or so times until you see the bluetooth message, afterwards, press and hold that watch icon until the next message appears and you're ready to go.
Question for anybody using any of the other ROMs, will the Gear S work with any of the rooted custom roms?
I got a gear s2 working on my Nexus 6P rooted rom

Were you able to have it working prior to rooting?

I'm on a stock, bootloader locked 6P and have a Gear S2 working perfectly with it. However, there's a caveat. When I first got the watch, it pairs up just fine, but there's an update that you're prompted to take but can't because the phone is encrypted. What you need to do in that case is pair it with a phone that's on the Gear S2 supported list (http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/gear-s2/device-compatibility/), in my case a Nexus 6 that's stock and encrypted, take the update, then reset the watch and pair it with the 6P again. If you don't have this update, any time the watch and 6P become disconnected, whether because they're out of range of each other or because you intentionally disconnect them, you have to reset the watch and pair it again. After this update, that's fixed.
It seems odd because both the 6P and Nexus 6 I have are encrypted, but because the Nexus 6 is on the list of compatible devices, it works while the 6P has the connection issue without this update. But simply pairing the watch with any of the phones on the compatibility list above, taking the update, then resetting the watch and pairing it with the 6P again fixes this.
Other than that issue, the Gear S2 works flawlessly? Receives notifications for email, text, calendar reminders, phone calls, etc.?
Would pairing it to my son's Galaxy S4 receive the Gear S2 update?
I tried the workaround in the Gear S forum, and couldn't get it to work. I wonder if Gear Manager needs to be updated for 6.0?
If there isn't a fix soon, I will probably sell my Gear S.
The Gear Manager app was updated for Android 6.0., but appears they only have it working for the Gear S2, not the Gear S.

As far as I'm aware, the gear s is only designed to work with galaxy devices. I had the gear s2 & had nothing but problems with it. The disconnect>reset bug did my head in. Wasn't worth the hassle in the end. Got rid of it to a mate who has a Samsung phone & bought the Sony smartwatch 3 instead. I'm happy, he's happy. Everybody's happy.
Does the Sony Smartwatch 3 have a speaker?
