I have a BMW X3 and a Samsung S5.
The phone isn't officially supported by the car's multimedia system so I'm looking for a work around.
I've installed Cyanogenmod ver. CM11 which has fixed the intermittent Bluetooth connection issues but I'd like the car's multimedia system to read email messages which worked fine on my older Blackberry devices.
I think I've narrowed down the issue to a Message Access Profile (MAP) issue between BMW and Samsung.
BMW confirms that the S4 is compatible so now my options are to flash a S4 rom onto my S5 or to figure out how to enable full support of Message Access Profile (MAP) on the S5/BMW.
Suggestions?
Whatever you do do not flash an S4 rom it will probably brick your phone!:good:
It says here that the S5 supports MAP.
Here's some google links of relevance

Verizon doesn't seem to know what it is http://vz.to/1mIJkeJ and tries to shift focus on to Samsung to evade answering the question. Lol
PS. a video about map
PPS. wrong section, should be in Q&A

The galaxy S3 has Bluetooth 4.0 , so it should have Bluetooth MAP right? My messaging is not working at all on my 2012 charger UConnect 8.4nav system (beats). I have heard that CM 7 has implemented it. What are the chances the SGS3 could get that put in by Samsung if it's not already there? If the SGS3 does have Bluetooth MAP how do I get it to work?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
move this post to the new questions thread please.
Hopefully a Dev can add this to one of their roms but this unadresses issue will never get seen if this is not moved to the active section.

This isn't terribly helpful, but...
The Galaxy S III runs a Bluetooth MAP service and a message notification service. It also asked me for permission to access these services when I first paired (but I have not yet tested the MAP functionality).
It should work, and I would start by re-pairing and paying attention to the window prompts that come up.
messaging access profile not requested.
I tried pairing again looking for a popup that mentions messaging. the popup only asks for permissions for contacts and music. Messaging is never mentioned.
o I deleted the phone on the car stereo.
o I unpaired the stereo on the phone.
o I attempted to pair from the stereo but the stereo
automatically gives a pass code and tells you to
continue on the phone.
I'm using the standard messaging app, Are you using the AT&T messaging app?
What stereo are you getting it to work with?
Does the Sprint Galaxy S4 support Bluetooth Message Access Profile (MAP) yet?
I was reading android dot com that the Android 4.4 KitKat update brings support for it, but i can't seem to get it working on my Dodge 8.4 UConnect system. I think its just that Samsung doesn't support this feature.
Hi All
Just got upgraded to an S4 i9505 for my work phone and I'm happy to have an Android device over the Blackberry I had before.
My phone is already rooted and setup to the way I like it.
The FEAR I had came true when pairing the phone with my car. I have a F30 BMW with extended Bluetooth option, which enables you to have like a mobile office on the iDrive.
With the Blackberry I was able to :
1. See all my Contacts
2. See my SMS/Text messages
3. Able to play music via Bluetooth
4. Able to read e-mails, both my exchange and gmail
With the Samsung S4 I can do all of the the above but can't read my e-mails anymore. This feature are very handy since I drive allot for work and having the iDrive option to read the e-mail back to you helps allot to keep up with whats going on at work.
Have searched via google, XDA and some BMW forums, but have not yet seen an option that works. It appears that it's an android issue with regards to MAP (Message Access Profile) not working the same way in Android as it does with Blackberry.
My phone is running KK 4.4.2 Stock ROM, my car has been updated to the latest Bluetooth software. Do anyone know of any third party App or xposed type framework solution to get the working?
Many thanks for any suggestions in advance.
Any help or suggestions?
Nope but nice car btw

Hello XDA!
So since I got my Galaxy S4 (NC1 build) I have not been able to use the Bluetooth with my car (ACURA TL 2006). Apparently Samsung has upgraded the Bluetooth so far that it is no longer backwards compatible. There are lots of threads about this on ACURA forums, I am sure other cars have the same issue.
Is there anyway that I could :downgrade" the built-in Bluetooth to a lower version so that it works with older devices? Any upgrade doesn't benefit me anyway.
Any help is appreciated!
Did your old phone connect using BT? I'd delete the old profile and start fresh with a new one.
Make sure BT is on and your phone is discoverable. I'd do the easy stuff before trying to downgrade any BT firmware/drivers.
Moved this thread to the Q&A section where it should have been posted originally. The desire to include the [Q] tag should have been your first hint about this

Thank you for your response.
Yes I removed all the profiles from the car (there were like 5 different ones). The car does not see the phone and vice versa. Of course BT is discoverable. There are many threads about this on ACURAZINE forums, both ACURA and Samsung refuse to help. I think its wrong that BT is not backwards compatible.

Thank you for your comment. I have UNFORTUNATELY taken the OTA and my S4 is now on NJ4. No change in Bluetooth thought. My ACURA TL still doesn't see the S4, neither does the S4 see the ACURA TL. (My 10 year old TMobile T610 worth $0.00 easily connects to car bluetooth). I say unfortunately because now I cant even SIM UNLOCK , my previous versions I guess up to MK2 could easily be unlocked with a couple of clicks.
So I looking around and it appears that the S5 is not mirrorlink capable in its current state (stock).
However when lollipop comes out its going to have built in mirrorlink support.
Anyone hear of this or can clarify this for me?
Mirror link is in the settings of lollipop on my s5

Without having the phone in front of me, I cannot see that. Can you please be a bit more specific about what you have and where you found it?

MirrorLink is supported now. You'll find it under "settings - connections - Connect and Share - MirrorLink".
I had my son look at his S5. It shows "screen mirroring". Is this Mirror Link? Or another software solution? You would think it would state "Mirror Link" if it was actually that software.
I was also talking to Samsung yesterday and they are saying the Lollipop push was due out already, but it should be coming any time now.

Mirrorlink is indeed on Galaxy S5 here in the uk but it wont connect with my pioneer headunit as it only supports mirrorlink 1.0 software and the S5 is 1.1 and pioneer cant or wont update the software to work with newer smartphones, it will work with an S3 but the mirroring is pretty basic tbh

It's on the S5 here in the states as well with the Lollipop upgrade. However, it doesn't work here either...at least not on a Pioneer Nex8000. It's time to start investigating other options outside Pioneer.
Mine dosn't work either. I have a VW headunit - Composition Media - and when I start MirrorLink only a black screen with a car connecting to a phone icon flashes and disappears. I'd like to debug the problem but can't connect my phone to the car and to my laptop simultaneously so I can read the logcat. How do I save the log to a file so I can read it later?
I got the operation of MirrorLink in Galaxy S5 , excuse the language , do not speak English , read-only.
