Samsung Galaxy S5 Screen-Malfunction? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S5 and hope someone can provide a decent answer.
So, I'm really clumsy and I dropped my phone on the floor, and then it started acting up. At first the screen would just be black when I pressed the home-button or the on/off-button, but it would still be "active" in the sense that I could touch the screen and feel the vibration of touching a letter or so. Then I switched it off and on again, and the screen would light up with the SAMSUNG Logo but then go dark, and when I kind of "pressed" the phone together, the screen came back, but then if I accidently pressed the on/off-button to lock the screen it wouldn't come back on again. And now the phone has gone to a whole new level of ****ed up, because now when I turn it on and given that the screen works, my phone is playing the Star Wars intro but a lot faster. Not literally the Star Wars intro, but the screen is kind of flowing upwards and then it duplicates from the bottom and it just keeps going faster and faster.
What can I do?

Get your screen repaired, sounds like a connector is broken or loose.

I asked for a price offer and they said about 250$ to change it, and for about 500$ I get a new one, but at the same time, 500 is fkin much.

yeah i have had mine almost a week now i noticed it after i removed that plastic screen thing that was on the back of the screen.
it seems kinda cheap feeling when i push down on the screen and i hear it sweak and move every time. should i take it back?
Mine started sqeaking and creaking today. NOOOOO!
I only had it for 2 days. I kept the plastic on the back of the screen and it still does this by the way. Its too awesome of a phone for this litte stuff to bother me though. I came from a Touch Dual that had a solid keyboard for a little over a year before it became wobbly and squeky before it final died. So I imagine its better sooner than latter cause you just adapt the longer you use it.
My 2 Cents,
Jcostanza4
I had the same problem the first day I got mine. I'm still trying to figure out a way to keep it from squeaking/creaking. Honestly it's just annoying right now. My TYTN II was a brick compared to this phone as far as size and weight. If I figure anything out I'll post it up.
The only idea I've had so far is to take one of my old Palm screen shields and use it on the back of the screen. However since I ordered a Zagg full body protector I think I actually might get that piece with the set. Like I said I'll post up when I got more info.
try adding a little strip of adhesive felt to the upper part of the chin (where it meets the screen when closed). Works for me. Actually, if you want to test this out or cant find the felt, take three post it notes(together for the right thickness), cut them down, black out with a magic marker, and you'll get the same effect. Barely noticable.
yes mines loose too you feel it when you only hold the bottom and tap the screen u here the screen and the body click.

Maybe you're pressing too hard? Mine creaks if I really press down hard.
On my wing, I had to press down hard, it's built for a stylus.
But this device is built for your fingers, and should respond with a very light touch. Try using it with barely touching it, if it doesn't respond try pressing a tiny bit harder, you should not have to push down hard enough to make the screen creak -- unless the screen is badly attached, in which case I would take it back to the store.
this is what happens when HTC wants a thin, light phone with a hardware qwerty
it doesnt bother me much though

Broken G1

Hey guys, on day 3 with the Dream and it no longer turns on (well kind of). It will vibrate and the backlight will go on but there is no screen and no other function. Not sure what to do next besides return it.
And I just gave my sister my old Touch yesterday !
Edit: I also took the battery out and put it in a few times, charged it all night, etc. Also tried the Home & End key to turn it on.
Edit 2: When I call it from another phone it goes straight to voicemail even though the phone is technically powered on
Hold down Menu when powering on and see if it boots into safe mode..

Nope, same blank screen
Another g1 broken
My first g1 was the brown one, which i returned because of the silver keyboard. It was damm hard to read.
My second g1 was black, and it creaked like a little old lady. I quickly returned that one at the shop.
My third g1 now has a f-ed up screen. The lcd will not kick on, it did show 1/2 a f-ed up screen and now i cannot even see the boot screen. 20 reboots later and it just shows the back light.
I should have just kept the brown one, and most likely everything would have been fine.
I'm thinking im going to wait for another cool phone to come out.

wow bad karma... then again looking at your username... maybe your phone just didn't like sprint LOL jk jk I feel bad for your problems it seems like you are getting a lot of issues. Of course the screen creaking isn't that big of a deal you know. Most sliding phones have a little squeak you have to work out.
my screen doesnt creak, and I agree on the bronze version and the keypad
brownkin g1
just got a black replacement. So far it's rock solid.

Quick Newton Rings Question for you all!

I know this problem has been talked about thoroughly, but I'd like to ask you something...
I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 which immediately showed the problem, at first the rings would disappear minutes after use, but after a few days the problem started to get worse and the ring expanded until it covered the entire center of the screen, and wouldn't go away even if stuck in the fridge (which would have been a temporary solution anyway).
Now, today the store received my replacement unit, which I saw and tried but couldn't get today because of some forms the store needs to receive to complete the replacement. This unit has an earlier serial number, and the rings appeared to be there but only if extreme pressure was applied on the screen.
I am now wondering if the "newton rings defect" can be described as a ring that "appears and stays there during and after use", or more like the "rings appear on pressure and fade away immediately"?
Can any of you lucky owners of a "good" SGS tell me if the rings DO NOT appear even when hard pressure is applied?
I am asking this because my current defective unit shows the rings even on light pressure, while the replacement requires much harder pressure to show the defect.
Thank you!
Have had unit since July with no newton rings. Can push down fairly hard and not see any defect.
Pretty sure that ANY Tab will show the rings if you push hard enough. At that point you are physically harming your tablet just to see if you can physically harm the tablet though.
I had the same problem. The tab was about 6 weeks old when it started to show the rings. Then they went away completely, but came back much worse after about a week. I took my tab to a Samsung service center and they replaced the screen with a new one which has much sturdier glass.
The original screen had a serious amount of flex to it. The glass would bow in the middle with even a light press, and this is what was responsible for the newton's rings problem. Samsung seems to have just made a bad call with the glass they used for their first few batches of tablets, and I imagine all of these tabs will show the newton's rings defect at some point.
The new glass that was installed for me doesn't flex at all, but if I push down really hard on the screen the rings still appear, but disappear as soon as I release the pressure.
I would say that if the rings appear at all during regular use, whether they persist or not, that constitutes a defect, because it'll only get worse in the long run.
i almost bended the tab both from the back and front with my fingers in different areas on the screen.. and the result is no rings, not even a slight distortion..
i have this problem, the back black surface is very soft and flexable just like the back part of the galaxy s.. it makes me wonder if it is going to be worse in time.. other than that there is no physical problems..
got my replacement today. The glass feels nice, and while the old one developed the rings right on the first day, this one has no rings at all, even after I stressed it with looped quadrant tests while it was inside its pouch and in a hot room. I heard that someone started seeing the rings weeks after buying it, I am now wondering if they will show up or those people just started NOTICING it a bit later. As I said, the other one started having problems right out of the box, as soon as it got a bit warm.
i forgot to ask... when did you buy yours? On the back you can see a number starting with R2GB and then a 6, 7 or 8, with 8 being the latest devices built (august). Mine is a B6, the other one was a B7

After having my Tab for months, the issue only started here last week as the UK had some hot weather. Definitely didn't have it before that. Now it's cooled again, they've gone away.

After some days of intense use the problem has not appeared. I have to press down on the screen fairly hard to make them appear but they vanish a soon a I lift my finger. Obviously every tablet does this, I tried pressing hard on the screen on an iPad2 and a ring appeared there too. Hope it stays this way
I have had a B6 model for approx 3 and a half weeks. Wife bought it in early August though. I see the rings only when I press hard on the middle of the screen. They disappear immediately.

Solution!
I caught the famous newton rings two days ago after 2 months of ownership - and paniced at once. I read about all the disappointed users and returns and repairs. And decided to do the same. Got a ticket from the berlin workshop, that officially repairs for samsung. But i like experimenting. So i followed some leads before sending in. Put it in the fridge, warm it up on the heating. Both had no effect. At first. Disappointed, I let it lie beside my keyboard and continued working. When i looked at the 10.1 after 40 minutes again, the stain, that measured 2,5 * 5,5 cm in the morning and rather grew bigger when trying to treat, was shrunk to 1*3 cm or so. I did not trust my eyes. After another 10 mins, it was only the size of a fingerprint. And then - the whole screen totally went back to completely normal on its own. No rubbing or pressing could change that development.
My conclusion, and i can not believe, that samsung has not published that quickly and clearely, is that it is a moisture-problem. The weather these days is moist and also, i worked with the tab in moist surrounding lately. The "healing" set in, when i had the tab heated up to ca. 30 - 40 degrees celsius and then let it rest for some time with no cover in a dry room at 20 degrees celsius.
Try it before complaining, if you can live with thecircumstances. I do not know, if the replacement-screens of samsung is different, new at all or only dried by samsung... i will not send in mine anymore.
I can confirm, that the healing by administer some heat is permanent and also by doing the fridge and the heating again after the healing, i could not provoke any stain again.
Good luck!

ok guys, so i had this problem pop up a few months after i bougt it, so last week i spoke to the customer service rep and they mailed me a prepaid ups label, i mailed it to texas, 4 days later its back on my door step.
My impressions:1. They definitely changed the screen, the new screen has a slight texture underneath the glass, that isnt noticeable until you look really really hard.
2. The screen brightness, quality is unchanged.
3. The screen now has a dark grey samsung label on the bezel, my tab didnt have the label before.
4. The tab feels a lot more solid than it did before, not that it wasnt solid before, but there was always a very very slight creak when you handled it, especially at the back. It feels like everything is really really tightened now, feels a lot more dense.its a good thing.
5. I cant seem to produce the newton rings now, before they would appear temporarily when i applied slight pressure to the screen, or when i rubbed the screen to remove fingerprints, but now that doesnt happen. The glass feels a little thicker.
6. Another slight difference, is the fingerprints dont seem to show as much as they did before. Its not a major difference, the screen is still a fingerprint magnet.

Help.. URGENT help.. I cracked my screen.

So my Nexus had the screen lift.. I was just curious, and wanted to see the back of it.
Took the back cover off, no problem. I didn't really do anything except look around. When I wanted to pop the back cover back in, I had trouble with one corner.. it just wouldn't pop in. So i pushed that corner a bit (I swear I didn't really use that much strength) but I turned the device around and saw the corner of the glass was cracked. It didn't reach the pixeled part of the screen, it was only at the black border.
So I thought- ah.. oh well it was my fault. I was pissed.. but who was I to blame right? I'll just live with it.
Here comes the problem.. I pushed the Power button, the lock screen came on as usual. However, it seems to have absolutely no response to my touches at all. I tried touching every single corner... NOTHING.
There is absolutely nothing I can do with this device right now.. Except 1. power it on, 2. take a screen shot.
Can anyone tell me what to do now? I've taken the device out of the states. The country I am in do have Asus office. I know the warranty probably does not cover this. I would be willing to pay for a new screen- but does anything know how much it will cost?
Sigh.. any help/comment would be nice. I'm totally devastated right now. I know it's my fault for not being careful. But I am able to go traveling next week, and was looking forward to reading books on it etc.
If it were me, I'd send it back and get a replacement since it had screen lift and that was the only reason you opened it...

Well I'm not in the U.S, and won't be anytime soon. My friend bought it over for me. Tomorrow I will call the local Asus office and ask them about it.
In the meanwhile I might just buy the micro-USB to USB cable, and use a mouse to control it. Although That will look ridiculous as I'll have to find a flat surface to use the mouse everytime. Is there some other USB controller I can use to control the screen?
Also I don't really know much about digitizers.. once you crack one corner, does it mean the entire thing is not usable anymore?
I had very small screen lift issue. Barely noticeable. But with this official nexus 7 cover seems to keep it down

The touch panel is fused to the glass so if it breaks you're out of luck sorry

does that mean if I want to get a replacement I'll have to pay for LCD+digitizer? :crying:
It'll probably cost more than $100 right...

I don't know if it is normal. You have to push really hard to get the click sound.
hard you mean like 500-600g
it almost sounds like, 'my car gets dents in the bodywork if I push on it really hard' - why do you need to push on it so hard? Is this a review model you were sent to test how tough the device is? I could understand a problem if it's under normal use, but 'You have to push really hard to get the click sound.' doesn't sound like normal use?
I have similar problem with my Edge+ but only on the top right corner. When pushing on this area of display, a bit hard but nothing extreme/ not like trying to bend it, I hear something like a glue unsticking.....
Figured this out when trying to apply the screen protector.
What can it be?
I heard some stories of motherboard unsticking from the screen due to moments of phone getting hot, could be this?
ok, and if I go the service what shall I tell? It is very hard to describe the exact simptom and service people are often tempted to treat such situations superficially....
If it is bothering you, take it to service center and ask for replacement if possible.. 3 months of my use of S6 edge+, I don't have any serious trouble on it but sometimes the device is getting hot because of heave usage. I just need to bring it to deep sleep for 15 min and everything are going to back to normal.
I made a thread about this months ago but noone really took notice.
Basically it means your phone screen is starting to collapse cos you press too hard on it when tapping.
I press hard naturally too like elephamt thumbs and it happened on my 2 tablets which dont have gorilla glass. The screen sinks slightly.
On my s3 and s4 it does not happen because they have gorilla glass and a hard flat substrate underneath. The s6 edge plus has a curved screen thereby a plastic substrate underneath which flexes if pressed too hard.
My 2 tablets the components behind it started to collapse making the back potrude slightly. I have no idea what will happen with the s6 edge plus maybe the screen will.collapse.or.push the components further back like my tablet but you have to start learning to press slightly.
Curved screen is not ideal for heavy pressers. I'll get a flat screen next time like note 7 or something
