Hi guys!
I have use this Zenfone 5 LTE variant (ASUS_T00P or A500KL variant) for about a year unrooted until recently the phone failed/bricked due to unknown reason.
The last stable version that I used before the phone failed was KitKat 4.4.2 (UL-ASUS_T00P-WW-11.4.6.94-user).
After a visit to Asus service center, they re-flashed my phone with Lollipop 5.0 (LRX21M.WW_Phone-12.4.5.58-20151013 044030443_201501281349).
When I tried to root the phone with the common Zenfone 5 Lollipop Rootkit available on the Internet, it failed due to some restriction in writing some flash part inside the phone.
Again, one more weird thing with this phone is when I tried the power button+volume up button, it won't bring me to fastboot mode.
Instead, the button combo will bring up a yellow text saying that my phone now is in CSC mode.
In recovery mode, I couldn't find the "apply update from adb" menu too.
Even in the .zip firmware file downloaded from Asus site, I couldn't find the fastboot.img and recovery.img
So, herein lies my questions.
1. What will happen to the failed root process? Will it corrupt my current Lollipop file system in near future?
2. Does anyone know what is CSC mode?
3. Can anyone confirm whether I can root this phone or not with the current setup? I really need to root this phone ASAP as I want to try to recover all my lost photos inside the internal storage with help from other software.
4. Can I still sideload from adb incase the phone brick again since I don't want to visit and pay Asus technician just to re-flash my firmware. I totally can do that myself provided they gave me the option in the 1st place.
p/s: anyhow, I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone due to above reason.
I have the same issues with this model. I hope someone will be able to help us.
Same problem to me can't do anything .
CSC mode - locked bootloader.

TWRP recovery for a500kl too.
As far as I know the very first version of Lollipop on this device, WW 12.4.5.22, is rootable. I had no luck with the latest versions of firmware, so you probably won´t be able to root your current one. If you get back to this version using the downgrade version on the Asus website, you can use Kingroot to root the device. After you install Kingroot, reboot the phone, otherwise it will not be able to root it for some reason. I bought this phone because my lumia 710 decided to give up on life and it´s mainboard died. I needed some not very expensive phone with pretty good specs and big enough RAM for a low amount of money and so far it´s been working flawlessly
Did you manage to root? I have the same version on lollipop and have managed to root it and install TWRP.

Finally we have a guide to unlock the bootloader of Meizu m2 note. We need Mediatek SP Flash Tool, MTK phone drivers and the images/bin files for unlocking. No modaco superboot, no fake tutorials any more
Now here's the guide:
1. Download the files I provide
Then unzip it. You'll get a folder with FlashTool, Phone drivers and unlock images.
2.Install drivers for Mediatek platform.
3.Flash the temp-unlock-secro.img via Flashtool.
4.Flash secro.img, lk.bin, preloader_meizu6753_65c_l1.bin via Flashtool.
5.Disconnect USB data cable and power on the phone. If you see the "=>Normal boot" sign(it's quite small.......) in the left bottom cornor of the screen, then the unlock is done. You can now flash things in whatever way you like. The guide is over~~~
The full tutorial is here:https://mega.nz/#!zJxmBDAA!VyYLgPoOfx1P4O7WzSvKVycnbWnYPESzazZGOoIt15w

I hope xda-developers can help work out a recovery image:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed: If you can port the recovery and it works well, just leave a comment here I need that very much
PS: I tried to port a TWRP recovery from Elephone P8000 but the screen is upside down I tried to add ro.sf.hwrotation=180 in default.prop but it didn't work And I also tried to add setprop ro.sf.hwrotation 180 in init.rc. It didn't work as well:crying: Who can help fix this? Or I need to compile the TWRP myself?)

M1 metal is powered by YunOS, and it have a system service called"AntiRoot". As we all know, the antiroot in YunOS is very powerful which is extremely hard to hack. Now you can only use Kingroot to get "Fake Root",which can't edit the system partition. I'm using m2 note(M571) so I can't help u about that, sorry
Oh, and remember this tutorial WON'T WORK on Meizu M571C (meizu m2 note China Telecom version ). We are still working on that but we don't have the phone to test our work.

I ported one but it's buggy, so I won't release it until problem resolved. The screen is upside down but touch is ok. Th only way to fix it is to compile the full image, but my computer's performance is so poor.... Could u help me bro?

Excuse my English I am Italian, and use google translator

I tested it on 4.5.3A and 5.1.4.0A.
This guide only change the ""secro" partition, "preloader" and "lk"(bootloader). It does not depend on your firmware version. So be relax and try it
Hope your Google translater works well
How about in the guide:
And change the Scatter to this file:
Now choose temp-unlock-secro.img and select it.
but it always fails because it is not a scatter but .img

what about mx4 pro (Exynos 5430 Octa) ?
hello we are new to and TWRP custom rom ??
I have build a TWRP recovery from the newest CM12.1 and TWRP source code.
Here's the link: https://mega.nz/#!ychBnTSb!wL6qicJ2KCpwnhHNImEhhk2OGuEKThxcDk2tj0iGuP0
Problems: Sometimes /cache partition can't be mounted. You can flash preloader, lk and secro partition again to solve this.
And the CPU Temperature clock doesn't work. It always shows 0 Degree...... I'll try to fix it.
Other functions works well Try it!
Before you flash it by Flash tool or fastboot or other tools, remember to remove /system/recovery-from-boot.p
That file will restore the flyme recovery at boot~
I would try but it is not clear how to use flash tool can make images of where to load the various files?
thank you

Run Flash Tool.
Load the scatter file first, then click the blank after "recovery", then load the recovery image. Click download then your phone will get TWRP recovery.
Remember to remove /system/recovery-from-boot.p first or your recovery will go back to flyme one
After installing the twrp have you tried to reflash a flyme rom ? Does it works or the official rom have some checks in the zip file to remove ?

Has a method for rooting the zc551kl been made available?
Why is it taking so long? Is it because there is no bootloader unlock available yet? I've tried kingroot, TWRP, SRSroot, damn I think I've tried them all. Can someone help me?
No BL unlock, no root. It's that simple.

Hi, the official bootloader unlocking tool is out, and there is an option to flash TWRP and root ZenFone 3 Laser. Let me know if you're still interested. I'm using ZC551KL rooted with TWRP Android 7.1.1 stock.
How?

OK, Here we go; You downloaded bootloader unlock tool from Asus and want to root: https://www.asus.com/us/Phone/ZenFone-3-Laser-ZC551KL/HelpDesk_Download/
FILES TO DOWNLOAD:
-First you need to download the unofficial TWRP that works for this phone (twrp-3.1.1-unofficial): https://depositfiles.com/files/ux8w5thp6
-Second, you need superSU file (Many thanks and credits to @mauam for the links): https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/v2-64-2-66-supersu-mode-t3286120
-Third, if supersu doesn't work, you need Magisk v.15.3 (Lots of thanks and credits to @topjohnwu for providing us with these tools): https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
-Fourth, download ADB drivers and install them in your PC: https://gsmusbdriver.com/asus-zenfone-3-laser-zc551kl
-Again many thanks and credits to @Gt5228 for the original helpful "Idiots Guide" of how to root ZC551KL. If you have issues, follow this thread for info, links and solutions: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3/help/how-to-root-zenfone-3-laser-zc551kl-t3502606/page5
NOTE: For some phones, superSU doesn't work. I run Android Nougat 7.1.1 stock on ZC551KL, and using superSU soft bricked my phone. I had to flash the stock again and try Magisk instead supersu, which worked. Others used successfully another version of SU, so please read the original thread before you start if you still have questions. I am not responsible for bricking your phone or any other issue you may encounter. Just to be safe, make sure you backed up your device, and have access to the original firmware file just in case you need to flash it again.
HOW TO:
-Install adb drivers;
-Enable debugging on your phone;
-Copy "twrp-3.1.1.unofficial.img" on your installed ADB folder (PC);
-Copy "Magisk-v15.3" or "superSU" on your phone's SD Card;
-Go in adb folder where your files are and pressing and holding "Shift" right click on nothing inside your folder and choose "Open command prompt here"
-With your phone still on and connected to PC, type "adb devices" You should see a serial number, that means your phone is connected via adb and you are good to go;
-Next, type "adb reboot bootloader"
-Once in bootloader type: "fastboot flash recovery <file name>.img (fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1.unofficial.img);
-After Flashing, DO NOT REBOOT YOUR PHONE INTO SYSTEM!!! Reboot into Recovery!
-Using vol up/down choose Recovery and wait to reboot on TWRP. You'll be asked for your pin if you have one;
-In TWRP (Recovery) press "INSTALL" from main menu and navigate to your saved file on SD Card (superSU or Magisk) and select it;
-After the installation, clean cache and restart. Now your phone has TWRP recovery and is rooted. Enjoy.
This is not entirely my work, all i did was just collecting information and links from web and put them here together.
P.S. I used Windows 7 Ultimate 64bits, USB 2.0 port.

About custom roms, at this time there's absolutely none ported for ZenFone 3 Laser. I've been looking for weeks now, here on xda and everywhere else and found none to 0... No CM, no AOSP, no Lineage, no Viper OS, no nothing... disappointing, as there's lots of ZC551KL users waiting. As posted here, twrp, bootloader unlocking and rooting is possible, but beside the privacy apps we can install over root, we still have to live with all this blootware on Asus Zenfones. We'll get the Oreo update in August though, if that makes you feel better...
And here is the thread for How to download and install Xposed Framework. Must read as there's a different solutions for everyone. Works for my device. All thanks to @topjohnwu , @rovo89 , @wanam : https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-systemless-xposed-t3388268

Sounds like your TWRP image is wrong. Where did you get it?
Did you unpack the image and verify it is for mt6737.?
The one twrp I found on this forrum claiming to be for the zenphone 3 Max , when opened , I found it was built for Qualcomm not mtk.

Yes, there is a TWRP for your phone!
The following tutorial is the only one that has worked for me. It's in Brazilian Portuguese, but you can copy the link into google translator and it'll be easy for you to understand.
Find out which version of TWRP you'll need for your specific chipset and follow the instructions with pics.
Good luck!

Hi guys.
I saw a highly recommended post on rooting an Asus Zenfone Max 2 Pro(https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...t-asus-zenfone-max-pro-m2-unofficial.3885457/
Unfortunately , I saw it after I had already unlocked the bootloader using the UnlockDevice.apk tool from Asus' official website. Hence , the steps for rooting are now confusing since in that guide I have to use unlocker to install Magisk and root.
I want to know how to now root my phone now that I've already unlocked the bootloader , I just need help with the rooting part. Please help me out , I really need to recover some data that I lost when I factory reset , and the recovery tool I downloaded is saying root access is needed to deep scan and find those files.
I'm running a stock Android 9.0
