Cheekily, I just asked an O2 sales guy:
"I've heard that you don't check student status on your student offer, is that right?"
"Erm, this is a recorded call, so I can't confirm or deny anything" and his tone, plus the little chuckle at the end of the sentence, make me think there's no checking.
I've just submitted my order, so I guess we'll find out!
(Cancelling with mobilefun is proving to be anything BUT fun however... 20 mins on the phone still unanswered)

Had two emails from O2 now confirming order and cofirming warehouse is dispatching, will be with me in 5 working days, no mention of checking, cool!!!

well i ordered mine since 10th november..
but it hasnt arrive... it seems they are out of stock...

I just called O2 to query my order. They said they are out of stock. Why aren't I surprised! (this despite a promise that the sales guy described as "cast iron" that they DID have stock).
However then they said that because I'd paid for a specific delivery date, they would honour that... so they told me I should expect delivery on Wednesday. I explained that the two statements appeared contradictory but she just said don't worry, it will come on Wednesday...
So I'm back to the waiting game I guess...

well they told me stock should arrive on 17th november...
and also when i bug them . they just tell me its coming its coming..
by the way.. they also allow me to cancel and reorder to get this latest deal. which is 20pound cheaper.. but i m just worried it will be further delayed...

No, I didn't get the name unfortunately.
As for the specific order date thing, on the last-but-one page of the process I had a page which offered a set of delivery options, some free (5 days) some 3.99 (could have chosen tomorrow or wednesday, I chose weds) and some 14.99 (Saturdays morning).
I figured (pessimistically) that O2 would fail to deliver within 5 days anyway - whatever option I chose on that screen - so the cost of a paid delivery would be an excellent bargaining chip when it comes to making yet another complaint with yet another cellco. (see other threads for my 'vodafone nightmare'. But, you never know, I could be a very happy guy - finally - on Wednesday...

I was told new stock will arrive tomorrow, that is, 22 November. So a Wednesday delivery is possible, just!

just got an email that my unit has been dispatch .. i was given the dhl tracking code as well... hehehe.... what a coincident that things happens today
it will arrive within the next 24 hours ...wohoo!

I also have received a DHL tracking number from O2 I have checked the number on DHL's website and the parcel has been collected. So same here ordered and dispatched all on the same day

Worst Gadget Buy EVER !!!

I have been wanting and waiting on the Xperia for a year now. Ever since they first started talking about it on the web. I pre-ordered the phone through Dynamism and cancelled the order twice with each delay. I heard that many people were ordering from Expansys and decided that since they had them in stock, I would give them a try.
Thursday morning I tried to order the Xperia from them with my Paypal account when there were 7 available units on their website. I had to jump through many hoops because my confirmed address with Paypal is a Post Office Box and Fed Ex will not deliver to a PO Box .. I scanned envelopes as requested by Expansys, showing that I received deliveries at my office address. I kept checking by telephone to see if their order department received the scans. A few hours later they said 'yes they had finally received the scans of my office delivery address, but now the phone was SOLD OUT.' I was told to keep checking the website to see when more units become available .." Expansys issued a refund to Paypal, but Paypal has not yet released it to me because the money I paid with came from my bank and they have to wait until that clear, which it did, but Paypal gave me some lame excuse ... Said I will have the refund within 4 business days.
Late in the day I saw the Expansys website was showing 72 available units. Quickly I called their UK office - My 6th international call in one day, can't wait to get the bill. The UK office was now closed and my call was forwarded to the USA .. I was talking to the USA at international rates
Spoke with someone named **** in the USA office. He said that even though the site says 72 units available, he can't say for sure if there really are any until I place an order. Said I could try and purchase one and see what happens.. So I did.
First I explained "I can't afford to have more money taken from my account if there aren't going to be any available phones." and he assured me that my debit card will NOT be charged if the phones are on back order.
I entered the debit card info, but with the wrong expiration date and the order didn't go through ... their computer retried the card 3 times and that put a lock on my card. I didn't know why it wasn't going through, or that the card was now destroyed, but since I have two bank accounts I used my other debit card.
That card was approved but inventory once again showed NO PHONES AVAILABLE. **** was on the line with me while I was ordering and on the line when the message came back NONE AVAILABLE .. He was still on the line when I logged into my online banking and sure enough, the failed order placed another hold on $800+ It will take 4 days for that hold to be removed. There is nothing I can do, my bank can do or Expansys can do to release the funds..
Last night when my bank saw another attempt to charge from Expansys.com they thought they were doing me a favor and froze that card too. I couldn't buy a cup of coffee at McDonald's this morning with either card and when I called my bank to ask why, they told me what had happened and why both cards were locked.
It didn't matter that my bank locked my second card, because by now there wasn't much money left ..
BUT BEFORE MY ACCOUNTS WERE FROZEN ..
I read here that someone was selling some Xperias on eBay .. person has great feedback etc ... With the last of my money I tried again. He shipped UPS yesterday morning and now .. more than 24 hours later .. my phone is still in customs in London for 'unknown reasons.' I was supposed to be getting it tomorrow ..
SO ... other than THAT Mrs. Lincoln .. How was the play ???

Man I can't believe what you've dealt with trying to get an X1. After all the frustration and stress you deserve it for free but we all know they're definitely not giving these things away . Wish I would have posted something sooner about Clove's service because they made the wait manageable and handed things very professionally.
Anyhow, props on being so patient and persistent! Let us know when it finally arrives and I certainly hope it is soon. Once you do get it, you won't regret it.....it's an awesome device.

I just checked with UPS again. They still can't tell me where the package is, why it hasn't moved or when I will receive it. I put a stop pay on my Paypal payment. I don't think I want this phone anymore. I am surely not going to pay a high dollar for it .. I will wait until something new comes out. This experience has taken all the fun out of the phone ...

If you imported it from the US to the uk and customs have nabbed it, I'm sorry to say that you'll probably have to pay 17.5% tax, with some random £8 or so fee to boot.
I've had the same when ordering memory from ebay, I had to pay an extra £50 on top of what I'd paid, as well as waiting 3-4 days for customs to get their finger out of their...

It is coming from the UK to the USA .. Hasn't moved for 48 hours. This is my thought. The package is going to my office. A coin shop. the word "coin" is in the name of the business. I forgot to tell the seller to remove that. My bet is on that someone at UPS thought it was full of coins and opened it. Then tossed it aside when they didn't find any. If it had contained coins, I would have received an empty box.
ALSO.. Our insurance company will no longer insure packages that are shipped UPS for this exact same reason.

Gutted, I hope it does turn up for you, I'd be mightily miffed (as I was when ordering that memory) if anything got delayed.
I'm waiting for word from Vodafone UK when they get some xperias in stock, I'm exchanging my Touch Pro as I've had a quick go on an xperia one of my colleagues has gotten his hands on and I'm quite impressed by the responsiveness compared to the TP.

You basically screwed your self 3 times here trying to get this phone. Chill out and wait till you know for sure. Customs does this **** all the time, they can take anything they want and hold it for as long as they want. Happens to me all the time with shipments from Thailand for my company. You definitely shouldn't have done Paypal, then had them refund it, and then use your debit card (with the same company) the same day for the phone again, that was stupid. You should have just given the money via paypal and been the first to get the phone when it was back in stock. I am sure you have another phone you can use in the meantime.

OK .. my final post on this subject - Got my last payment refunded by the ebay seller. Of course, gotta wait for it to clear before I get access to that money. Have first payment still on hold in Paypal and the second on hold at my bank .. but the GOOD NEWS IS ..
My regular gadget seller has one coming to me overnight - saturday delivery .. He just got his shipment in. I buy most of my gadgets from him and he is totally reliable and honest .. in case anyone is looking .. In fact. Sometimes he has things that he hasn't up on his website yet. Thats how it was with my Blackberry Bold and my HTC Touch Pro .. just tell him Diane sent you .. you won't be disappointed .. EVER !!

Expansys is a great place to buy from. Just make sure you're buying through your country. Being in the US and buying from expansys UK is a huge hassle. You should have bought through expansys USA. http://www.expansys-usa.com we had 4 arrive today.

ASDA Pre-order

Hey guys has anyone had any details about ASDA dispatching the xperia z preorders?
I'm pretty sure that when i selected the free delivery option, that it mentioned something about it being a guaranteed delivery date of 28th Feb. Does anyone else remember anything similar?
I ordered on the 14th of Feb.

Mine is sitting on 'Back Order' haven't heard anything from ASDA.

Mine says this on the tracking system:
Awaiting Stock - We're waiting for stock of all these items to become available. As soon as these items leave our warehouse and are their way to you we'll send you an email to let you know.
But even if they get stock tomorrow i doubt they can get it to me the same day

It's wishful thinking, but hopefully they're just crap at keeping the website updated. Mine reads the same as others.
Going to be mighty annoyed if I don't get it tomorrow. I never go to Asda for anything - supermarket or online - they're not doing a great job of turning me around...

I've rang them 3 times today and been told something different every time! The one said it was out of stock when I ordered, another one said tomorrow and then the third one said a couple of weeks

I spoke to them about 6pm and was told "your order isn't showing as back ordered on my screen. You see the phone isn't released untill tomorrow, so it can't be dispatched before then. If it doesn't say dispatched by this time tomorrow, call us back"
This was after I'd already explained the guaranteed 28th Delivery. Not holding my breath for getting it on release day. Even though the accessory pack was a big bonus, I picked Asda because no other site had commited to a delivery date at that point. Seems like another examine of Asda over promising and under delivering.

What was the guarantee? If they fail to deliver on the guaranteed date then what is their penalty?

I saw some sites got their deliveries late and had to dispatch on the 28th, i wonder if maybe this was the same for asda.

Mine still says on backorder. Just went through the process of ordering again to see if there were any delivery options this time and there were options to leave with neighbours etc. This wasn't an option when pre ordered. I am not sure if it means anything though.
I have seen on game forums that asda have form for this sort of thing too. Gonna see if I can find more info.

Where does it say that Sony are offering free headphones?
Update: just got off the phone with asda, while my order still says on back order, they're are saying that they have the phone in stock (as reflected on the site) and awaiting dispatch. Though I'm not certain I completely trust that!

The asda website looks like they've done a hasty removal job of anything to do with the preorder, so much that they still have photos of the preorder accessories, with absolutely no mention of coming with any.
I wouldn't imagine anyone would have felt the need to take proof of them promising delivery today, but it was plastered all over the site. It was even in the hidden T&Cs regarding the accessory pack saying you wouldn't actually get the dock and case today, something along the lines of "on 28th February you will receive the Bluetooth speaker, and a voucher for the case and dock redeemable from Sony stores"
The phone is being advertised as "in stock" for new orders, so I've got my fingers crossed that they are just being really poor at updating people's accounts.

I just remember it being mentioned when in the checkout process, i have searched online and others have mentioned the guaranteed delivery date for game pre-orders form asda direct in the past.

I've decided to cancel my preorder with asda and get them directly from sony with the free headphones (which more then makes up for the extra £29). Though I'll probably sell the headphones.
Though even the order cancellation is a hassle, apparently it has to be passed to a "technical team" and will take 24 to 48 hours for an email to come through stating the order has been cancelled.... I don't think I'll ever use asda again!

Can't believe the way ASDA have handled this pre-order. Even their website shows 'in stock', but my order still says 'back order'!! Im on hold to speak to a manager!

It's been almost 7 days. I am exposed to Forex rates losses (good 10 dollars loss) in case Ali Express closes the order and reimburses.

I was one of the first few to purchase the 4gb/64gb model when the sale went live. (If the counter on the site was correct.) I received a tracking number from them last night for Singapore Post. Assuming it isn't a bogus number, it looks like they are shipping them out.

Nothing yet, 20 hours to cancel and a string of polite emails to the eeller requedting updates. It loos like they did not have the number of units they promised and want to get away with a with it.

i got mine shipped a day before time expiration. wish you luck!

Mine had just been shipped as well. I went with the DHL option so it should get here within the next 4-5 days.

They say they have already shipped mine too. The fact that your TN does not work is because tracking systems need about 3/4 days to update. This is not the worry.
Could you people say if your TN is of origin Malaysia???
Mine is like RCxxxxxxxxxMY. This *could* be OK if they are shipping from manufacturer and not from China as usual, but one never knows.

I thought UPS updates it's tracking system right away. My tracking number doesn't have an prefix or sufix like yours it's all numbers and a few letters here and there. But I really hope it's shipped at least because there are rumors that ASUS can't supply the orders for some countries like France because it hasn't produced that much units.
Edit: I just received an update that the Order is Processed: Ready for UPS. So that's good news

Received shipping notification last night.
I ordered mine one hour after they started selling them at the special discounted rate. Because I paid for the ZF2 quickly, I qualified to receive a free gift. They said they will also be sending me a Silicon Case and Screen Protector.
They sent me a Singapore Post (singpost.com) tracking number. I just tried checking that tracking number and it currently isn't available and can take up to 24 hours to be available for tracking.

ok..so I ordered my phone through huawei(10/5/2015). I used the financing company through their website called Affirm.
I received all the confirmation emails from both huawei and affirm about my order and registration with Huawei.
here is where the "Fun" comes in:
I tried to login to the Huawei website this morning 10/6 to see if the status was updated(I have no patience)
and ...My account does not exist!!! so after chatting with a representative online they cannot find any of my information, no account registered, nothing!! However I can log onto the Affirm account and see when my payments are due!!! I have emails and phone calls back and forth from them they still have not resolved. Really sucks!
as of 10/8 I have received what looks to be a generic email saying that states I will get my phone??

My experience while a little different, is still very similar to yours. I ordered on 9/30 and subsequently received a confirmation email with receipt. The next day, Huawei did debit my credit card.
But, when I login to my Huawei account, it shows nothing in "my orders". I emailed their customer service about this on 10/4 and received an automatic response with a ticket number, but have heard nothing back.
I'd have to say that this really isn't a big deal. We'll see how they do when it's time to start shipping product.
But I would have to say that their customer support is less than stellar, so far.

@cam30era they have emailed me to basically tell me the same thing that the generic email says.
I am going to just wait it out and see if i get it. However they did say that shipments are delayed but could not tell me when.

I don't see the benefit of ordering direct from them unless you don't want the play store money, don't want the insurance, possible tax free, and want a less reliable information service as far as shipping.
The only benefit to me would be tax free, but I wanted the insurance and easier RMA process.

Yup, you identified all the reasons. 7% better in my pocket.

I ordered using affirm also. So far for me though all has been smooth. I'm able to log into the huawei website and see my order just fine

I am very careful with my phones(*knocks on wood) .. and cant shell out $600 at the moment. so i chose to do the financing. as far as shipping and reliability of huawei .. it is questionable at the moment.. hopefully they make good on it.

I ordered from them on the 5th as well and all has been good so far. I ordered from affirm as well and everything seems to be good. Order shows as processing in my orders and the affirm charge went through..now I wait...

I just got off a "chat" with Huawei. They basically reconfirmed the same information. The first orders will ship in early November.

I ordered the day after release and on the site it said shipping late october and then was switched to early november a few days later. I also spoke with a chat representative and asked how the google store orders and direct orders shipping times would differ and was told that they will actually both ship at the same time as the schedules would be the same but asked if they came from the same stock and was told that there would be seperate stocks? Not sure how it will all work out but I am really hoping that the chat representatives were just told early november but will actually ship earlier.

I'd say it is very likely the chat rep doesn't know a damn thing about shipping schedules or if Google pulls from the same stock or not. I wouldn't be surprised if these things don't ship until november or if they ship a week or two early. I doubt any first line CS Rep has a damn clue other than possibly some generic date and would be the very last person to get an updated date or information.

i guess we will compare with others once people start getting tracking #'s or receiving their devices! If any of you get updates please post!:highfive:

I also ordered through Huawei, but I did not use Affirm. I'm able to sign in and see my order no problem.

I orderd through them to save the near $50 on Massachusetts tax, I orderd the Thursday and the money was taken out yesterday. So far so good for me no issues as of today.

now that Google is out of stock of 64gb 6p , i am trying to order from gethuawei.. but i have a issue, when i press the order button. does not complete my order.. message pops up to call huawei.. i call the # customer support says the website has problems to try and order again later..
has anyone place a successful order today??
