[FIX] titanium backup - backup failed: Insufficient free storage space - Sony Cross-Device General

Many users even I am having problems with titanium backup, simply the app was not backing up and restoring was not anything so I was trying to find a fix for this is is now working properly. :victory:
TUTORIAL FIX
1- Open the application SuperSU
2 - Drag side to the tab >>SETTINGS<<
3- Scroll to the option >>SECURITY<<
4- And uncheck >> SEPARATION SPACE OF NAMES FOR ASSEMBLY <<
5- Reboot
WOW now you can back up and restore your apps and data normally

Doesn't work in Ti 7.3.0 using Resurrection Remix M for Xperia ZR and SuperSu 2.65 but thanks for the effort...

For any having problems with titanium backup not able to access/write to ext SD card try this
As you have seen, Marshmallow has some new restrictions on how apps can use your external SD card. If you're like me, you use your external SD card for Titanium Backup, but as soon as you installed MM, Titanium Backup decided it wasn't working - specifically it can't access, or at least write to your Titanium Backup directory on your external SD card.
The only way is as follows IT WONT WORK THE NORMAL WAY OF SELECTING BACKUP LOCATION.
The solution is to configure Titanium Backup to access the external SD card slightly differently:
Go to Preferences -> Backup Folder Location.
Click on Storage provider at the top (it's not obvious that it's clickable).
Click on DocumentProvider storage. That will take you to a File Manager interface.
Then click the menu lines in the top-left and select your SD card, and click the "Select" at the bottom right. (You don't have to select your Titanium Backup folder here, you're just using this to get access to your SD Card.)
Now you should be back in Titanium Backup and you can browse like you used to to get to your preferred backup folder on your external SD Card
I warn you that using this Document Provider storage is much slower - at least it seems so for me. But, it seems that it's the only way to go for now.
If anyone has any better or alternate solutions, or better information, please let me know!

My work usually as I said above, but I had to download the updated application. I saw in the google that marmallow is giving sd error for lack of a few lines that do not contain the applications so is inaccessible. Thanks bro

Thanks worked for Samsung Galaxy S5 Xposed/TWRP/MM....this was the 'Only' method that worked for me after researching and trying everything. My headache is gone now thanks to you so much appreciated. It did not work if I selected the exact folder as well as selecting the ext Card so follow the steps to the Letter for those of you having issues. Why sh%t has to be this complicated for simple tasks is beyond my comprehension

Have similar problem, but on KK - ASUS tf300t, PAC-man KK.
Option was unchecked, so I'm trying with it checked, as on my other KK device (Xperia Z Ultra, AICP 7.0, there is no problem with it).
I'm trying to use SDcard as backups storage.
Thought it's problem with Ti, but the problem persist in File Managers, when trying to copy/move "broken" backups.
Best is that it's not one or few apps, but it "changes" once for a while and backup of app "broken" before is fine, but got the error on different one...
In File Manager the error looks like this: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError.
Right know I checked the option in SuperSU and did Wipe of Dlavik and Cache. Will see if it helps.
If not: Maybe anyone has similar adventures with Ti and can help with this?

It is called "Mount namespace separation"
It is the most annoying feature we have ever seen

This worked with Nougat 7.0 on my Samsung S7 edge, but the key as you mentioned just select the root folder of the SD card, then back in Titanium I selected the Titanium folder. If I selected the Titanium folder in the file manager interface it didn't work.

What to do for those root managers which are built internally like in RR Rom. We have no SU app. Then what?

This simple process fixed my backup error. I have been unable to set number of revisions higher than one due to the insufficient free space. Can't count number of factory resets, different versions of Android (5, 6 and 7), and the number of times I tried using the SD card in both modes. Even doing a completely clean install, with only being rooted and only titanium backup installed, it still refused to backup more than one revision.
Currently I have titanium set to keep 3 revisions, stored on SD card using the above procedure, and have had error free backups for 7 days now.
Backups are one operation that needs to be as simple as possible. Everyone should be able to perform a complete backup without needing to understand or learning convoluted processes.

I can confirm it worked for me, however I find the backups to do actually faster then before instead of slower Have no idea why. On the other hand no matter which way TB access SD card I see another strange issue. In case of some apps being backed up TB during backup says "Skipping..." (because no newer version from last backup and that's OK) which takes several minutes. Other apps are skipped in miliseconds.

No sdcard applications after Wipe!

Hello,
Few hours ago, I managed to fix the grey "Move to SD" problem in froyo by using the setInstallLocation 2 solution, after doing that, I moved all my applications to the SD card. Then I did a wipe factory reset to my device.
When turning on the phone, the SD card apps were gone, but they are still in my SD card "secure" folder, files with .asec extension.
They don't exist in my phone, but when turning on the usb storage, i can see them in my SD card.
Has this happened to anyone?? ty very much/1
I don't have much experience with this option, but I would say that a wipe is a wipe and the associated file on the sdcard is only a link to the put the application on the sdcard not the full application.
At best it would keep the option when you re-download that application from the market.
If so, where the real application is? what's the point of "moving the SD" if the application is still stored on the phone?
And it can't be a link because of the size of the files, it's really near the size of the application. I'm convinced it is the application, but wondering why I can't use or find them.
it's pissing me off, i had plenty of games and useful apps
yes, the "registry" of installed apps is gone with the wipe, so android does not know how to use those files on the sd card. You will have to nandroid/titanium restore or reinstall.
Aww.. lucky i got the saved games on the sd...
I got an unrelated question:
I found that the apn settings are saved under the file apns-conf.xml.
I downloaded the file with the settings i need, pushed it to system/etc and still i don't get the apn settings. tried rebooting the phone, and wonders why i still don't get the apns?
If you have a backup, restore it, move all your apps back to phone, then wipe, flash the new rom and move them back to SD.
All problems solved, ty

Retrieving Apps off G1 SD card to Vibrant

I'm sorry if this has been covered but I have looked in several places and have not yet found an answer.
Bought the Vibrant on day 1- LOVE IT
I upgraded from my G1 running CM5.0.8 with Apps2SD
ALL my apps on the G1 were on the SD card
For whatever reason- LOTS of apps I have on the card never showed up as me having downloaded them when I signed into my google account and checked the market with the Vibrant.
3 QUESTIONS:
1) I want to put my 8Gig card from the G1 in the Vibrant but I want to know if there is a way to get those apps on the SD card on the Vibrant. (Actually it's just one app that for some reason is no longer in the market- it's called NightClock and it was one of the super early apps from back in the ORIGINAL days of the G1- none of the "NightClock" apps in the market is the one on my G1).
2) When I eventually put the 8gig card in the Vibrant is there some special way I need to format it? When I mount the vibrant now it shows 2 drives.
3) When I put the Vibrant's 2 Gig card in the G1 can I just reformat it as it was in stock form and still use the phone as a test device to upload my .apk files from eclipse?
Thanks
1) I think your best method to retreive your apps from your G1 is to copy them from either linux or from your g1 to the fat partition as i dont think you will be able to access the ext partition on the vibrant, i could be wrong on this, nvr done it.
2) I fdisk'd my sdcard on my pc then formated it before putting it in my Vibrant.
3) if you like you wont need to reformat the vibrant card as it is already in the correct format.
You could use a computer to pull the files from the SD. or you could back up the files using titanium backup then move that sd to the new phone and use titanium backup to restore them. Or, at least, I think you can. I have not tried it myself. If you format the SD while in the vibrant, you will lose all data.
good call, titanium backup run from the G1 would be the easiest way to back them up
Thanks everyone- stupid questions here but bear with me-

I don't know how to do either of those things- How do I even access the apps from my pc? When I mount the SD card I do not see the apps anywhere- Ideally I would love to just drag the .apk files and install the ones I need on my phone- is that possible?

I see that I have to have root to backup using Titanium Backup (not a problem on the G1) but do I need root on the Vibrant to restore a Titanium Backup file? I have never used it before.
Thanks again
You can format the card AFTER you pull the info from it.
I do not know if root is required to use titanium to restore, but if it does, this is the easiest phone to root ever!
If mainly just want that one app, then you can use something like Astro File Manager to back up your apk files. As long as it wasn't a protected app then you can save the apk file to your sdcard and then just transfer the apk over to your Vibrant and reinstall it.

I know WHEN to format the card I'm just wondering HOW to format it- do I just get everything off it I need and then pop it in the vibrant and hit format? Or do I FAT32 format it on the computer and then put it in the Vibrant and THEN hit format? Is it automatically partitioned? Are the two drives that show up when you mount the Vibrant both on the SD card?
THANK YOU
There is no need to partition because there is no apps-to-sd. You can format it right in the phone, or do a FAT32 format on your computer. The reason you see 2 drives when you mount it to the computer is because there is the internal 16gb SD and the external (removable) SD. It does not see your partitions.
Ahhhhhh- thank you very much- THAT is exactly what I was wondering. So the Vibrant gives you the option to unmount the internal SD card- what purpose does that serve?
dude, just use titanium backup or 'my backup pro' to back ur apps up from ur g1 (with root access) and then... put that zip file on ur PC, extract it, pick the apps that you want to put on ur vibrant, put them in a folder and then install them using astro on ur unrooted vibrant.

If you unmount the card from the phone, you won't be able to access it (on the phone). So, if you have it hooked up to your computer, you unmount it from your phone and mount it to your computer, your computer will recognize the drive and will allow you to search/explore it.
If you mount it back onto the phone, it will no longer be accessible by the computer. However, it will be accessible by the phone.
Thanks everyone problem solved using astro

you unmount so that you can take the sd card out while the phone is on. you do not want to take the card out while powered up without unmounting.

Internal SD?

I'm coming from the HTC Desire Z ..and first thing I noticed after installing my old SD card was the fact that I now had two SD drives. After rooting and re-installing Titanium Backup I realised. I had to move contents from my external SD card to the internal one to get my backups installed. Is there a way to change this or rename it (I've tried renaming but wont allow me)? I'm not sure how I feel about everything I download now goes to the Internal SD..I'd like to keep that free and uncluttered as much as possible. What's the deal with this?
I am not the most experienced, but did you see and set the option at the bottom of the storage option list? This is what changes the default storage to either internal or external. Not sure if that would fix your issue or not.
Dont think you would be able to rename the storage as it appears in your phone, tho. You can rename the drives over usb mass storage, but that won't affect how it shows on the phone.

Help with sd card as portable media

Ok so ive finally upgraded my s4 to a s5 unlocked bootloader, rooted and resurrection rom. I understand the whole adaptable media and encryption. My problem is es file explorer, root explorer, and any archiving apps are all jacked up and wont write as they used to. I am able to write to the sd card but i want to have full control like i used to on older roms on my s4.
Any help?

I'm using Ressurection too. Marshmallow can be a pain with the sdcard. Apps have to ask for write permission when it first needs it and you have make sure to grant it.
Titanium Backup works with the external sdcard but you have to go to "Preferences", then to "Backup Folder Location", click where it says "Storage provider:", select " Document provider storage", go to the external sdcard (not a directory in it) and press "select", and then go to the TB backup directory and select "Use the current folder".
If you're using a multi partitioned sdcard, Link2SD doesn't work but Apps2SD appears to work fine. Either way, you'll probably get a notification about a corrupted sdcard for each extra partition. You can safely ignore them. Long press on the notification and select the crossed bell icon to prevent it from popping up again.
Some apps have trouble if they are opened from another app. Rar wouldn't work for me in ES File Explorer until I opened it from the app drawer. Then the correct permission dialog popped up and it was fine ever since.
I would also strongly suggest setting selinux mode to permissive. I suggest using SELinuxModeChanger.
Thanks. I changed the selinux mode but es is still wonky when working with zips. I also tried zarchiver opened directly and it has problems too. Oh well.
I did get tibu working previously as you stated.
I hate when enhancements are downgrades!!
Thank you for the information.

I can't properly write on my SD

Ok, I have had many phones and this problem is a little bit weird for me.
I'm using Poweramp as my daily driver for music. I tried deleting some songs I stored on my SD and it said my files were write protected. I then used Root Browser just to see, that most of my music and photos I have on my SD card were not located in /sdcard but in /storage/57EF-B920, a directory I never created. When I put the SD card into my PC, I can see all my files normally and r/w without any issues.
I figured I could only alter files using the stock file browser and gallery app, but why? And why are my SD card stored media files showing up in /storage/57EF-B920 instead of their actual path? Is that a security feature?
My phone is 100% stock and not rooted.
Thanks for your help!
This is how it has always been on MM. The days of /sdcard, or /storage/extSDcard for your external SD card folder are long gone with LP/KK/JB I'm afraid.
The directory for external sd is unique to your SD card. Put in another SD card, and a new directory name will get generated for it, and it alone.
The ability for an app to write to SD card is down to the app's developer. It will need to have the updated methods that MM uses. Usually, if an app can write correctly, it will prompt you to browse to the root of your external sd card the first time it attempts to access it. Even then, some apps may need extra tweaking. Titanium Backup for example requires the storage type for the external SD card to be changed to Document Storage/Provider in its settings. I used to use Nandroid Manager on my rooted S4 on CM MM, and this could never update external SD card....I had to use Root Explorer to delete/rename my TWRP backups.
You can also double check specific apps for permission through Application Manager.
Go into the specific app in application manager, click on Permissions, and make sure Storage is turned on.
Even when turned on, some apps might still fail, as I've explained.

Sorry for the late reply, but thanks for the explanation! So it's because how MM works vs how Lollipop did and Poweramp not being uptodate with that? I'll try out the permission thing and even if I fail, it's good to know why it won't work. Thank for your help!
