No sdcard applications after Wipe! - Nexus One General

Hello,
Few hours ago, I managed to fix the grey "Move to SD" problem in froyo by using the setInstallLocation 2 solution, after doing that, I moved all my applications to the SD card. Then I did a wipe factory reset to my device.
When turning on the phone, the SD card apps were gone, but they are still in my SD card "secure" folder, files with .asec extension.
They don't exist in my phone, but when turning on the usb storage, i can see them in my SD card.
Has this happened to anyone?? ty very much/1

I don't have much experience with this option, but I would say that a wipe is a wipe and the associated file on the sdcard is only a link to the put the application on the sdcard not the full application.
At best it would keep the option when you re-download that application from the market.

If so, where the real application is? what's the point of "moving the SD" if the application is still stored on the phone?
And it can't be a link because of the size of the files, it's really near the size of the application. I'm convinced it is the application, but wondering why I can't use or find them.
it's pissing me off, i had plenty of games and useful apps

yes, the "registry" of installed apps is gone with the wipe, so android does not know how to use those files on the sd card. You will have to nandroid/titanium restore or reinstall.

Aww.. lucky i got the saved games on the sd...
I got an unrelated question:
I found that the apn settings are saved under the file apns-conf.xml.
I downloaded the file with the settings i need, pushed it to system/etc and still i don't get the apn settings. tried rebooting the phone, and wonders why i still don't get the apns?

If you have a backup, restore it, move all your apps back to phone, then wipe, flash the new rom and move them back to SD.

All problems solved, ty

Fryo I800 installation help!

Ok So I am here because I've posted in other places in these forums with no replies yet, So it would be better to create a thread specific to my problem.
I have an Omnia 2, thinking of acquiring the Fryo 2.2 OS, not specific about wether I want what version but here are the problems I come across before being able to install it.
1- plugging in my phone under Settings -> My storage will not show my storage on my computer, having the external SD option will show my 16GB SD card.
2- Backing up. How do I back up my storage if I can't see it on my computer? When I turn on active sync a blank storage appears other than my SD card (assuming its the internal storage) but the size seems rather small (167MB). I've been reading peoples' posts and I'm supposed to have around 2GB I believe, and either way the files I'm trying to put inside for the android OS don't seem to fit there.
3- Partitions? How can I set those up for both the internal and external storage? Is there a program or feature to do so? My SD card under properties says FAT-32 so I'm not sure on how to do it IF I need to.
4- Using a W7 computer, so that knocks off any ubuntu installations, and also link is broken for Almars Beta 1 file that I was thinking of using for an SD installation.
Any help would be appreciated, I've had this phone since 2009 and I'm really hoping I can come across some help to make it work since I do want to keep this phone for a bit longer before I spend more money on a different cellphone!
Thank you!
Try out the new CyanogenMod from the link below.
http://windows.modaco.com/topic/346446-cyanogenmod-beta1-omnia-2-updated-02122011/
It has the SD Card auto installer, try it..
Back up data on your SD card first and then format your SD card within the phone and then use auto installer to install it.
As you said your computer wont detect the My Storage, try the steps below..
Transfer your data from My Storage to external SD Card, then connect your phone to computer using My Storage mode in settings.
Download Mini Tool partition wizard and format your My Storage (Mini tool partition will be able to see your My Storage even though your computer doesn't).
After format, your computer should be able to detect My Storage.
Now copy the downloaded android files to My Storage and run the auto installer as instructed in the ReadMe file inside the download package.
PS: Don't forget to backup the data on SD Card to your computer
Hope this helps
Ok so what you meant by taking things from my storage is going to file explorer and basically copying everything from the "my device" to the SD card?
Just want to make sure because if it doesent work then I haven't gotten anything backed up right.
Went to file explorer -> copied everything in the top folder which is application date, connMgr, doc and setttings, program files etc. is this all thats needed basically?
Thanks
P.S some of the things I tried taking like global.txt or exe couldn't be copied because of violations or some weird error, is it alright not to have those?
Update: My storage is still not revealed by the mini tool partition program, went under usb settings -> my storage and refreshed disk information, nothing shows up ugh it might be impossible for me to do this after all....
nobody can help me in regards to this? well then I guess a new cellphone is in order
grrrrr I should've gone with a iphone 3G or BB 9700 at the time instead...

I guess you will have to reflash the ROM again since your problem seems to be unsolvable. My suggestions is to flash a stock 6.5.3 ROM before you transfer the auto SD installer.

[Q] External SD not working after custom ROM install...

I'm relatively new to this but up until now I've had no problems so far... So I just upgraded to the latest version of Jamal's 4.4.2, following the proper install method, clearing data and caches in CWM.
I DL'd Titanium Backup and tried to change my backup location to where I store my apps which is on my SD however upon selecting /extsdcard it says that 'this folder is not writable'. Using a file manager and attempting to access external just displays an empty folder. However, going into settings-storage shows that the SD card is mounted and displays the correct size/available space.
If I unmount then mount the card it seems to function again, I am able to access the files in a file manager. That is until I go back into Titanium Backup. Now it does something different here if I press 'DETECT!', it finds my backups and displays the correct amount and path on the external however upon selecting them it takes me to the appropriate folder and says 'This folder is not writable' and 'this folder is empty.' and Use the current folder' is greyed out. The external sd is then back to displaying nothing in the file managers again.
I've tried wiping and re-installing the ROM, but it still carries on doing the same thing. I've searched in the ROM's thread and other places and I haven't been able to come up with any solution so I'd be grateful if you could shed some light into this issue and possibly offer a potential fix?
this issue is hard.Im not a developer, but I think you need change an another firmware or change a new TF card.so you can know what's the problem. But I have a damaged TF card have the similar problem.but due to I have no important file in it ,I throw it out
hope I can help you

Large games on sd card

Hello,
I was searching for a way to put large games like (asphalt 8, nova3, and any other games) on sd card on my rooted samsung galaxy s4 because the internal storage is very low and about to be full.
First i tried to use the file manager i have sent the odd file and the apk(which in the data folder) but the game didn't work, it was searching for required files and asked to download them.
Then i tried many apps which need root acces on my device to send the games on sd card but i got the same problem...
Is there are any way to send the game on sd card and make it work there?
Thanks.
try app2sd...it is on play store ?
I have already tried it but it send the apk file only i want app or any way to send the apk and the odd to the sd card and make it work there.
This depends on what rom you're using.
You could try Folder Mount
Actually all these apps aren't useful i can already use any file manager to send the game files to the sd card but the problem is when i add the game to sd card when i open the game it dont find the game's files.
And about which rom am i using i didn't get it and how to know my rom?
I use the xposed module Obb2SD, so all my games are moved to SD card then the Obb files are also moved onto the SD card.
I am using a custom Rom.

If you are using the stock samsung rom then you just have to go to Manage apps and find the game you want to move and the press "Move to sd card".
Moving the apps manually will not work.
Folder Mount will move the app data to the sd card and trick the system into thinking it's on the internal storage.
I have just used folder mount by sending the game files (the folder in the data and its folder in the odd) but the game won't find their files
Did you get the phone new? Did you flash any custom rom on it or is it the stock samsung firmware that comes with the phone?
The only thing i have done with my phoned is rooting it with a custom recovery, there is no any custom roms im just using just the stock rom.
Then the rom should have the option to move apps to sd.
I know that my stock 4.4.2 samsung firmware had that option.
Go to settings > apps > downloaded, and tap any app you want to move. There should be an option "move to sd card" or something like that.

Help with sd card as portable media

Ok so ive finally upgraded my s4 to a s5 unlocked bootloader, rooted and resurrection rom. I understand the whole adaptable media and encryption. I want my sd card as portable so i can use it in my pc and other phones if needed. Also to use titanium backup to restore apps if i wipe and install a fresh rom.
My problem is es file explorer, root explorer, and any archiving apps are all jacked up and wont write as they used to. I am able to write to the sd card but i want to have full control like i used to on older roms on my s4.
Any help?

I'm using Ressurection too. Marshmallow can be a pain with the sdcard. Apps have to ask for write permission when it first needs it and you have make sure to grant it.
Titanium Backup works with the external sdcard but you have to go to "Preferences", then to "Backup Folder Location", click where it says "Storage provider:", select " Document provider storage", go to the external sdcard (not a directory in it) and press "select", and then go to the TB backup directory and select "Use the current folder".
If you're using a multi partitioned sdcard, Link2SD doesn't work but Apps2SD appears to work fine. Either way, you'll probably get a notification about a corrupted sdcard for each extra partition. You can safely ignore them. Long press on the notification and select the crossed bell icon to prevent it from popping up again.
Some apps have trouble if they are opened from another app. Rar wouldn't work for me in ES File Explorer until I opened it from the app drawer. Then the correct permission dialog popped up and it was fine ever since.
I would also strongly suggest setting selinux mode to permissive. I suggest using SELinuxModeChanger.
Thanks. I changed the selinux mode but es is still wonky when working with zips. I also tried zarchiver opened directly and it has problems too. Oh well.
I did get tibu working previously as you stated.
I hate when enhancements are downgrades!!
Thank you for the information.

SD Card permissions

Hi Everyone,
Back with an android phone after quite a while.
Just added a sd card to my SGS7E and realised I can't do anything with it.
All I want is to be able to use the sd card as you would normally, create and move files, folders etc.
Is this possible without rooting?
If so could someone provide any advice or point me to a relevant resource.
If i need to root what would you good people recommend? I don't want to do anything fancy at the moment (I'm sure that'll change) just use the card as normal storage.
Thank you for your help, advice and time.
The SD issues are my biggest let down. My camera won't save to it... people tell me to factory reset but I don't feel like loosing all my work I put into it.
Other apps see it as having storage in mb I think instead of GB. issues and nobody talks about it
Hi,
The sdcard is working okay for me. If system apps can't read or modify the content inside the sdcard, then reinsert the card or reformat it because it's very likely that the phone isn't seeing it.
If you want user installed apps to access the sdcard, it's a bit more annoying. Open the app that you want to access the card, then try to make a modification in it (like creating a new file if a file manager, saving a picture if a camera, downloading a file if a torrent client, etc), it will say it can't access the sdcard and will ask you to point where to root of the sdcard is, just select your sdcard folder on the prompt and it will work fine.
Keep in mind some stuff like app data can't be moved to the sdcard, so try to keep all media on your sdcard and all apps in your internal memory, that's what I found to be a pretty easy and good memory management. If you want however to install apps on your sdcard, you can enable adoptable storage using a terminal window (formatting your card), or root your device to use some third party app that will do that for you.
All the best,
~Lord
