No signal to TV - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'll installed my shield console to a new TV. Now there is no signal. There is a green light on the front however there is no signal. I tried replacing HDMI cable and also tried a different TV. And still the same problem. FYI I gave the 500G model and with new 6. 0 update
Sent from my ONE A2005 using XDA-Developers mobile app

Mine did this too after 2 weeks of having it. Had no HDMI signal and tried different cables but nothing worked.
Spoke to Nvidia support and the sent me a procedure to reset the video signal. I have the same model and it happened on the new 6.0 update.
-> Unplug all the cables and keep the device off for good 2-3 minutes.
-> Plug the Power cable, controller through USB (Wired) and Ethernet cable to the ATV. Do not connect HDMI cable.
-> The device will power on. Keep it idle for about 5 minutes and keep tapping A button on the controller. Continue tapping for about a few seconds.
-> Now leave the device is this state without the HDMI cable for good 15 to 20 minutes and plug the HDMI cable.
-> See if the ATV displays any output
It worked for me, unfortunately the next day the wireless and Bluetooth failed and I could not pair my controllers. 2 weeks of owning the shield and I had to RMA it. I'd like to think it was just bad luck as I'm happy with the box .
Hope this works for you.

The one part I am confuse about is the power plug through the usb part. Am I using the micro usb port for that or regular usb port? Where do u even buy regular usb charging cable

Correct, the controller should be connected via USB

If there is still no signal who or what phone number would recommend me to call?

I used the live chat here http://nvidia.custhelp.com/ they were quite helpful. Second time they RMA'd with no complaints.

I have the same issue and was given the same procedure. It didnt work. I also have another problem, when streaming video or using gamestream the video freezes for like 1 sec and the sound buzzes. This happens every 16 seconds but sometimes with longer time in between. Its connected by wire to my AC68U and I have like 750Mbit WAN so it unlikely to be a problem outside the shield.

You could have an older model 1080p TV which has issues with HDCP. What TV do u have and how old is it? This stupid HDCP crap is not only ineffective but also causes issues with HDMI signals
Please use the QUOTE feature when replying to me to get my attention. Thanks!

How would i know if its the TV? My PC, mac, TVbox, chromecast 1+2 havn't had any issues!

Same thing happened to mine on Sunday. Hopefully they'll allow me to RMA mine even though I tossed the receipt.

You have to give a lot more info. "It doesn't works" is not a question.

What does the TV say (I assume your switched to the HDMI input)? No signal, or is it just black. I also assume you connected the USB end to an official power adapter (requires 2 Amps)?
I think it is best to show the steps (tedious as it may be) you followed to get the SGT connected up to your TV...
But there is no need to be giving snide remarks to forum-co-members who are trying to understand where the problem lies. Cable-setup (for as much as is visible) looks good...

Could be the adaptation of dvi to hdmi. My first thought though is that you need an active connection. In other words a powered adapter.
The no signal notice on the TV seems to rule out it only being the wrong resolution being set, but it's possible.
As mentioned, we can't be certain if anything hardware wise is incorrect without a complete run down of what types of connections you have connected between the tab and TV. A full picture from end to end of everything between the tab and the TV would be quite a bit of help or just a list of what the connectors are and in what order you have them connected should help some more.
If you really want quick answers both pics and a list of what everything is would be perfect.
This would quickly rule out wrong types of connectors being used, but then lead to whether one part is defective if the connections are correct.
Just because connections and adapters get you from your tab to your TV doesn't mean it will or even should work.
But then if you're able to rule out a hardware mis-connection and connector failure issue, someone can jump in with software fixes, which it really becomes an issue of the more you tell, the better help you will get.
Sorry if this sounds like we're being rude asking for more and more information, but its the only way we can offer real help without being there in person and the questions from people asking for more specifics will only get longer if not enough nor specific information is given in the beginning.
It's just the way it works when trying to help someone without being there.
It's like me saying my car won't start, but here's a picture of the battery cables in the middle, but not including the connections from the beginning to the end of the cables at the battery.
People trying to help aren't mind readers and there are just to many ways to get from the tab to the TV to assume anything, its just a waste of time (probably like this post I'm making myself) to try to guess so many of us have tired of guessing and assuming things only to be wrong in the end and it really being something simple had we been told, or seen the specifics in the first place.
To be blatantly honest most people with the knowledge to help wont even waste their time to try, if you show a lack of willingness to "help them", help yourself.

took me:
5 minutes to root.
5 minutes to install CM10.
3 hours to mount it to the dashboard cause i had to cut a lot of holes in my car
But the project isn't over yet. I still need to fine tune the position of the tablet to it's sits against the frame.
Make a USB(OTG) y-cable so i can charge while mounting external storage.
Fine some more awesome applications for the car
But now to some question
Will it even be possible to charge while using USB host through a y-cable without hacking the kernel?
Sweeeeeet! Keep us posted, also would love to know how your best connectivity is. WiFi, 3 g, Bluetooth, etc.
Thank you!
I cant answer your question... but try it, it may already work. What car is that btw, was thinking on later putting my tab in my mustang, but tthe shaker audio system is wayy too good to screw up if i messed it up somehow, ill stick to that aux for now lol.

Hey Guys, thanks for the feedback.
Status is i got 3 things left to do now.
1: wait for my OTG cable to arrive and then install that, and hopefully i will be able to charge while using usb as host.
2: lift tablet 2 millimeters in the left side.
3: give my tablet black bezel, think solution will be electricity tape (i know it's kind of crazy to tape my brand new tablet). But after i placed the tablet where it's ought to be, the white bezel isn't as visible as on the picture above.

I live i Thailand where the 3g kind of suck, but i made speed and ping test on both tablet and mobile while using tethering, and there wasn't any notable difference between the tablet and the mobile. The GPS in Galaxy tab 2 is very good when comparing with other mobiles and tablets i tried, it connects to a lot of satellites right away. Bluetooth and microphone also works fine, so seems like i havent blocked for any connectivity

It's a Mitsubishi Triton GLS 2011 (aka L200), nothing special but a damn good truck for it's engine class (won the award for best high-lifted pickup).
One of the reasons i went for Tab 2 instead of Nexus beside the hassle i would have to order it from abroad, and all the problems i read people have with the tablet, is the DAC in this tablet (Wolfson). I might look into a digital audio solution later on, but for now it's analog audio transferred to the stereo. I love good audio, but not quite audiophile, but being in a vehicle i don't find it that important for now
I'll let people know if i find a solution for the charging while using USB as host!
Just a little image update after i taped the bezel black
Next up, OTG, USB hub and sd-card reader!
OMG this is really awesome. I want also want it in my car .
Really great, fantastic idea! :good:
Any news on this project ?
some pictures ?
and did you manege to made Y cable to charge TAB and have storage at sime time ?
If, is it posibile to have external USB DAC and charging at the sime time ?
(I heard thet there will be option to conect external USB dac to TAB 2 (3100,3110...)

Sorry about my late reply, i changed the Galaxy tab 2 out with a Nexus 7 instead which didn't solve the problem though, even with Timur kernel that doesn't really charge enough using OTG/charge.
With Nexus 7 it is possible to have USB DAC, but i think it is a little overkill to be audiophile when it comes to car sound unless you have a disco on wheels.
Anyway, my solution ended up being wireless storage and i can highly recommend this: http://www.amazon.com/RAVPower®-Wireless-External-Streaming-RP-WD01/dp/B00AQUMZRA which will also work fine with the Galaxy tab 2.
To make it a better experience then make sure you have a kernel that support cifs, or at least the module and then use app like CifsManager from play store to mount the storage as local storage, that way you can access the files within any application you wish.
Will take some new photos of the setup again soon, since the old ones have been removed.

HD2 in car project - need your ideas guys..

So, as the title says, i´m thinking in giving a new life to one of my HD2's, I have 3 of them and they are almost stored in a shelf.
The idea is to get this phone as a carputer, we know HD2 is still running strong thanks to the wonderfull devs here, so I think it will be a great to have it having a new life.
The basic needs will be gps, music, fm radio, obd tool ( with torque ) and phone, and if you have more ideas i will appreciate the input.
The car is vw passat 1.8T, so i´m looking for a solution that doesn´t involve using a windshield mount as it is a little far from reach for my taste, also would like to protect it from heat in summer days, so probably i will go for a vent type mounting.
These are the things I need to decide:
What rom to use - needs to work well with navigation, bluetooth calls being able to recieve calls while with navigation on without closing it due to ram starvation;
What mount to use - this one the more important, use one mount or design and build a something to dock it when in car;
what connections to put - use the 3.5 mm jack for audio or use bluetooth ( in the last case I have to buy a bluetooth reciever cause my stereo doesn´t have bluetooth )
usb otg with powered hub - yes or no
To design something specificly for HD2 or something that in the future can be used for other phones/tablets
I will add some pictures later and more stuff coming as the project develops,
Thanks
Hugo
Hi yugoport, I think if you use obd, you will need usb otg with powered hub. Therefore you will need DFT wm6.5 from here unless you can use a ubuntu distro. The android usb otg kernel does not charge.
I am no expert on any of what you are trying to do, but will subscribe and follow with interest. Good luck.
Edit; found http://www.autologicco.com/p_obd.html
this would be really cool

Thanks Robbie, actually I didn't know that the android USB otg didn't charge, thank you to point it out.
For OBD I have vagcom for windows PC, so the use in android will be light so I was planning to use a cheap Bluetooth adapter with torque app.
Thank you mate

Recently I also thought about using my HD2 for car. I am not very experienced in ROM-software, but have some ideas of hardware, esp. car handling. After surfing an Internet I have found out that original car kit price is still space shuttle level. But regular universal holders look not eough safely for me. I guess it is reasonable to buy regular battery lid for HD2( pretty cheap in the Amazon f.e.), than fix it to any PDA-Navigator holder instead of universal clamps by hidden-head screws. If you are good skilful hand maker, you can install in this lid 3 additional contacts for battery charger. But you will need proper manual for cirquit and schematics or charger specs, because this contacts connected bypass of biult in battery controller.
I agree about possibly using those 3 contacts under the battery lid for charging, and therefore using the usb port for communications only, it would be worth researching. But i never did like the idea of the original (space shuttle) car dock replacing the back cover. It did not seem secure enough and the phone could possibly be knocked off. You could strengthen a cheap universal one by putting screws into the ball joint after getting it in the right position.
Now, I am thinking about another idea. If you already used H\2 as a car GPS you definitely got the situation with overheated battery (indicates by blinking red-green LED). This case a battery controller interrupts charging and generally it's not good for the device. Especially because this season is coming. I will try to use regular cheap portable case with charger (see pic.)

. I am going to remove battery and parts form there and place thin small cooler (from a video card or laptop) to provide good cooling. Also this case is more capable for mounting in the regular holder and can be used for the charging of the phone. It is much better than connect USB cable directly to the device. I will report my progress here.
Nice ideas flowing guys..using the contacts to charging the battery seems a great idea, I can research on this, I have some experience in electronics, also I have here a hd2 for spares that I can use to test, I will do it this week.
Regarding the place I still haven't decided if I should use a car mount or no, I only use vent mounts because I can cool it in summer, also it's closer compared to the windshield mounts.
I can try to build a special cradle for it, but I will think in it later.
I'm using clingo vent mount and its decent ,but for this I think It would be better something like the brodit mount which is a tight solution, but not integrated as I wish, so I think I will have to build a built in cradle with charging + usb otg, the direct charging of battery might be a good solution.
For the phone calls, I searched for an app that would allow to forward the call from my S3 to the HD2 via Bluetooth when I'm in the car,but there isn't such a thing, I don't have Bluetooth in my car stereo,I could buy a Bluetooth reciever and connect it to the aux, but the idea was to be able to use only the HD2 that I will leave in the car sometimes to control everything, the solution for this so far is gmate, I use it in the S3 and it works well with the HD2 also, I could set a tasker profile to disconnect the gmate from S3 and connect it to HD2 using the Bluetooth near function, then HD2 would control the phone calls.. lets see how it goes..

[Q] USB 3.0 Issues...

ok i seem to be the only person having this problem, im not sure if its my computer (i have never used the usb 3.0 on it before), the phone or the cable (brand new).
When i connect my phone via the usb 3.0 i get a notification message popup on my computer tell me that the device can perform faster if plugged into a super speed usb 3.0 port.
Problem is i have tried all of the usb 3.0 ports and still the same message, i checked in device manager and it says it is plugged into a usb 2.0 port which it isn't and its only charging at 98ma.
How do i get the usb 3.0 to work?

Can you give further details on what you had to do to resolve. I am experiencing this issue and I have tried.....EVERYTHING!!!
I have a Windows 8.1 machine 64-bit, and have USB3 plugged from the motherboard. I have a USB3 pen drive which operates at superspeed without issue (so I know the USB hub, etc is in good shape). I also have a USB 3 card which is a PCI express and have tried connecting this to a Windows 7 64-bit machine and I receive the same results. I have 2 cables and both give the same result. So I am stuck.
On both machines it reports that the device can operate quicker which would suggest Windows knows that this is a USB 3 device. Any ideas how to obtain the USB 3 option on the phone?

Since few days I'm having an issue with the usb cable i got from lg. When i connect it to pc or a charger, both show charging slowly.
And it doesn't give me an option to change the connection type when i connect it to pc either, so pc is not able to recognize it.
When i use the cable i got from Nokia, it works properly.
I'm thinking it's something with the lg usb cable, but I'm not sure because it's not damaged or anything. It's still in a great condition.
Can anyone suggest what can be the real cause of this?

Well there may be 2 reasons.. your phone might be set to "Charge Only" mode or you might have a Charge Only USB cable.
I haven't touched Lollipop yet, but try going to Settings > Storage > Click the 3 dots > Choose USB Computer Connection, then check MTP. If that doesn't work.. read on..
Most USB Data & Charge cables contain 2x 28 AWG DATA wires, 2x 20-28 AWG POWER conductors and 1x DRAIN wire, giving us 5 pins on each side of the Cable (USB to Micro USB)
If you look closely on your USB Cable you may see some small print. On my official LG Charger/USB Cable that came with my G2 I see the code "28AWG 2C".
28AWG is the specification of my DATA wires.
2C is telling me I have 2 POWER CONDUCTOR wires.
Do you see any kind of model number or code on your USB Cable? If so.. google it or share it here.
Fun fact: The lower the AWG value (in my case, 28) the faster charge you get since it will have less resistance.

Do you see any kind of model number or code on your USB Cable? If so.. google it or share it here.
Fun fact: The lower the AWG value (in my case, 28) the faster charge you get since it will have less resistance.

The same cable used to charge & media transfer as well
The other issue is that I flashed the leaked lollipop rom on my g2.
before that it was showing software version v30a but now its showing v20d-ESA-xx.
also the startup animation was changed to shiny text 'Android' & shutdown animation was none, as we know there were vodafone animations.
No idea how this happend.

I think I'm in the same situation, but I swear mine started when I did USB tethering for the first time. Now when I plug in it always says USB tethering even when that is turned off, and I have nowhere to select usb connection mode. It happens the same way on any laptop, not just the one I tethered that one time.
Were any of you able to resolve this issue? I'm having the same problem.
Thinking a reload would address it. but would like to back up the device first, kinda annoying.

Are you saying that you get the USB connection type charging, mtp, to, midi when tethering in enabled?
Hello
From past 2 weeks i am wondering on internet for a solution . Hours and hours of surfing and articles but still
Hope some one solve this issue.
Okay. First i m using LG G2 F320 K update to lollipop . Non rooted. It was working fine . I can transfer files in MTP .
But about a month ago i get an update for my phone . And after some days i need to transfer some files to my phone , i wonder when i connected my phone to computer nothing happened . No notification on mobile for changing PTP MTP option . Also nothing happened in Computer device manager..
From that day i am unable to connect my phone with windows 10. It always charging mobile.
I uninstalled all drivers in device manager and installed from LG website. I updates windows N and NK MTP update from windows for windows 10.
I changed different data cables and different computers and different ports . All stuff i can do. Still no luck.
When ever i plug USB data cable it always put my Mobile on Charging . No notification on Mobile. Also i go in setting > storage> and there is no option in upper right corner to select USB PC connection .
I am in developer mode and debugging mode is on also. Also USB tethering option is Disabled .
Kindly some one help me regarding this.
