Annoying auto-brightness - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

See video here: https://goo.gl/photos/zSiBxiKT4UsxpiAw5
Very annoying when it's on auto brightness (which I like so it does it when I'm inside and then go out ) but when I try to adjust while being in auto it just jumps back to the auto brightness point even though it is way more bright than it should be.

Yeah noticed that, the levels are good for outside but way too bright inside for me.

Lower Brightness Setting

I have my brightness setting as low as it will go. At night (darkness) it's still too bright. Is there a way to get the brightness even lower? Thanks.
i've been wondering this too, haha
i just keep everything on the lowest, and make sure the browser setting are adjusted too
Any solution yet?
Has any one found a way to this cos the brightness really hurts my eyes at night!
Thanks.
Try an app called dimmer in the market. It will set brightness to 10. The default low point is 30

use a voodoo kernel with colorfix. the lowest brightness setting will be suitable at night after installation.

Thank you - I've been looking for something like this since I got my Vibrant. I'm also going to try Screen Filter and see which one works better.

Been trying to figure this out forever

Screen brightness

I have the lowest setting for the screen brightness but i noticed that it never stays on the lowest setting and seems to go a little brighter... prolly why my battery has been dying quicker this week... any explanation?

Who know's. Maybe it's the lighting when you are walking between rooms or going from indoor to outdoors that has you thinking otherwise.
Personally, I use Brightness Level (CurveFish) from the Market. It's one of my favorite widgets simply because I can toggle on the fly. I have never noticed my screen brightness increasing when using it.

[Q] Auto-Brightness Confusion

Can someone please explain how the auto-brightness works on this phone it seems to act a lot weirder than my galaxy nexus did. What does it mean when it talks about setting the baseline brightness and in what context? Do you use it? If so what brightness do you have it set to?
This phone has the worst auto-brightness of any device I've used.
I need to read the manual. I'm assuming the baseline is the minimum brightness, but it never seems to change when expected.
I chose to use a 3rd party app to manage it. Lux auto brightness works really well, and you can calibrate it any way you'd like.

I have mine set to 40% on auto. I found the best way to decide the minimum brightness was to set it at a comfortable level in a dark environment.
To test this, set up your minimum brightness, then point the screen (ambient light sensor) at a light source, keep your eye on the screen and it'll gradually brighten. I've found mine to work pretty well and rarely have to manually override it, but the change is a lot slower than my note 2.

Get lux lite from the play store. It works great

Comfortable in a dark room for me is about 5%, unfortunately even in the brightest of sun it seems like the phone never turns its brightness up at all when on auto like this. Anything less than 50% seems to break auto brightness for my device and that is just sad. Even when it works when set above 50%, it takes 5 seconds or so to adjust which is just terrible and the brightness seems to still act funny about how and when it decides to change. It really is the worst auto brightness ever.
Whoops!

Thanks for the recommendation guys that app seems to work sooooo much better than the stock auto brightness so far. The stock auto-brightness is garbage on this phone. Seems like the stock setting either doesn't get bright enough or doesn't get dark enough.
I don't agree, either I have a working phone or others are broke, but this is the best autobright performing phone I've every used, after the hd2, galaxy nexus, note 1 and note 2. Its perfect according to the ambient light situation and is really fast acting

Non-Optimized Apps on MM causing brightness levels to vary

I don't know if anyone else is noticing this, however when using an app that has not been optimized for MM, it causes the screen's brightness to dim for some reason.
You can try the app Wordfeud if you want to see it for yourself
There have been a couple of apps that have caused this, and I've checked with various settings (auto-brightness on/off, adaptive display on/off) nothing seems to remedy it.
I believe it's an app optimization issue, but certainly an odd bug.

Has nothing to do with auto brightness. It's caused by the app itself, regardless of any settings on the phone. Try it.

*sigh*
I've used Lux for years. I'm also savvy enough to know when it's not an auto brightness issue. Trust me, it's a MM issue.
If you don't want to contribute, go find a Lux thread so you can boost the app there.

That awkward moment when Lux actually does fix the problem though.
Tested it myself.

You're either not too bright (pun intended) or just a liar.
It does not fix it. Brightness still lowers when opening the two apps I've seen the issue with. Brightness returns to normal upon exiting the apps. Tested it twice.
The childishness on xda has really gotten out of hand lately.
Found the reason. It's not the apps optimization, it's that retarded new game service feature.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. If you have auto brightness unchecked your screen will won't automatically change based on your surrounding illumination. If you do check it-it should brighten when in direct light and dim in the dark. So are you're saying it isn't changing brightness based on surrounding light correctly (when checked) or you're expecting it to change brightness not checked?

If you have the screen mode to adaptive display , that might be the cause of it. Go to settings/display/screen mode.
