I have the lowest setting for the screen brightness but i noticed that it never stays on the lowest setting and seems to go a little brighter... prolly why my battery has been dying quicker this week... any explanation?

Who know's. Maybe it's the lighting when you are walking between rooms or going from indoor to outdoors that has you thinking otherwise.
Personally, I use Brightness Level (CurveFish) from the Market. It's one of my favorite widgets simply because I can toggle on the fly. I have never noticed my screen brightness increasing when using it.

Is there any tweak or app to lower the screen brightness more than possible by default? for me its way too bright when using the phone in the dark. (And for my wife too, since she can't sleep with my phone lightening up the entire bedroom :-| )

I have the feeling that just before the screen switch off the brightness is a little bit lower ...
Even this brigthness would be better and would probably save some battery
Same - I was thinking of posting this question myself.

Can we switch to a night mode like on the iPad or others? Black background and white text?

I found it to be slightly more tolerable at the 2 setting. But I agree the lowest setting is still too bright

I have my brightness setting as low as it will go. At night (darkness) it's still too bright. Is there a way to get the brightness even lower? Thanks.
i've been wondering this too, haha
i just keep everything on the lowest, and make sure the browser setting are adjusted too
Any solution yet?
Has any one found a way to this cos the brightness really hurts my eyes at night!
Thanks.
Try an app called dimmer in the market. It will set brightness to 10. The default low point is 30

use a voodoo kernel with colorfix. the lowest brightness setting will be suitable at night after installation.

Thank you - I've been looking for something like this since I got my Vibrant. I'm also going to try Screen Filter and see which one works better.
Man screen filter works perfectly! ..cept for notification bar
Been trying to figure this out forever

I am so glad that works!
So my original brightness setting was automatic and i was using it at bed one night. Decided it was too bright and brought the slider down to the minimum. The next day, I forgot all about it and used it as per normal. The brightness didnt even affect me. Before the streak, i was on the iphone 4 and when the brightness was low, its obvious.
I think the brightness could go even less before it becomes unreadable.

I made a post about this very thing not to long ago. Auto and lowest setting suck when in a pitch black room.

I agree the screen brightness is not dim enough at the lowest setting. Imagine the addition batterylife that would be saved if the streak could dim the screen even further . Maybe its a simple fix with next rom update, dell is aware of it.

If your Streak is rooted there's an app on the market called AdjBrightness that will do what you need. I think the Streak on it's own will only go to 30%, AdjBrightness lets you take it down to 5%.
My screen flicker when I reach less than 10% with adj screen brightness. Am I the only one ?

If you click on the clock icon in the menu to bring up the clock, on that main page there is an icon on the top right, looks like a sun icon half colored in. Click on that and the brightness goes way down, so i know it can be set lower. I think its a sleep mode or something

Wow, weird. Now, with that app installed, my extended control widget back light button controls the button backlights. Weird ****

I noticed this as well, also I don't think the ambient light sensor is sensitive enough or not working at all because when I set mine to auto it doesn't adjust at all.
If your not rooted, check out the app screen filter.

hmmm, this app doesnt lower the backlight levels, but rather applys a darker tint/filter. kinda defeats the idea of saving batterylife.

Well the idea for me isn't saving battery, it not getting blinded in the dark room, such as in the middle of the night when I get a text and open the WHITE screen to read it

Well the display isn't as bright so in fact it does save battery...
And like the previous person, I don't use it to save battery but for when I'm using the device in a very dark area like before I go to sleep and I want to use the device.

Has anyone noticed how much both chrome and stock browser flicker. Since i spend a lot of time inside i don't really crank up the screen brightness. I noticed last night that when scrolling in the browser the screen will often flicker. Its driving me crazy cause I don't have a way to test on another unit. Im on at&t with a d800 can anyone else confirm this thanks. Once again it only seems to do this when the brightness is set relatively low, and auto brightness is set to off.
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
yes. it's that content adaptive brightness crap I'm always bringing up lol.. there's no way to turn it off. it changes brightness depending on what's on the screen. it's horrible at low brightness in the browser and anywhere in general.
my tip, use screen filter instead of dropping down brightness. this helps and you don't notice it. for example I leave my screen at 40 percent and put screen filter at like 35 and it looks almost like 0 percent brightness and I notice no flicker. this is only a temporary solution until kernel Devs get here because I believe the issue is in the kernel, bc disabling it on a software level does nothing.

Not sure if you're talking about the same thing, but check out my thread here for a possible solution.
Can someone please explain how the auto-brightness works on this phone it seems to act a lot weirder than my galaxy nexus did. What does it mean when it talks about setting the baseline brightness and in what context? Do you use it? If so what brightness do you have it set to?
This phone has the worst auto-brightness of any device I've used.
I need to read the manual. I'm assuming the baseline is the minimum brightness, but it never seems to change when expected.
I chose to use a 3rd party app to manage it. Lux auto brightness works really well, and you can calibrate it any way you'd like.
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk 4
I have mine set to 40% on auto. I found the best way to decide the minimum brightness was to set it at a comfortable level in a dark environment.
To test this, set up your minimum brightness, then point the screen (ambient light sensor) at a light source, keep your eye on the screen and it'll gradually brighten. I've found mine to work pretty well and rarely have to manually override it, but the change is a lot slower than my note 2.

Get lux lite from the play store. It works great
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk 4
Comfortable in a dark room for me is about 5%, unfortunately even in the brightest of sun it seems like the phone never turns its brightness up at all when on auto like this. Anything less than 50% seems to break auto brightness for my device and that is just sad. Even when it works when set above 50%, it takes 5 seconds or so to adjust which is just terrible and the brightness seems to still act funny about how and when it decides to change. It really is the worst auto brightness ever.
Whoops!

Thanks for the recommendation guys that app seems to work sooooo much better than the stock auto brightness so far. The stock auto-brightness is garbage on this phone. Seems like the stock setting either doesn't get bright enough or doesn't get dark enough.
I don't agree, either I have a working phone or others are broke, but this is the best autobright performing phone I've every used, after the hd2, galaxy nexus, note 1 and note 2. Its perfect according to the ambient light situation and is really fast acting
