Just got a little update
How to install this patch update on rooted phone? Is it possible to make a stock recovery and unroot without losing any of data?
Thanks

I did try to install it, the file downloaded and phone rebooted... then Prince's recovery screen loaded up, forgot I rooted the phone the other day using his excellent "Lenovo K3 Note Manager" tool
I might unroot my phone another day and try to install it again. The only thing bugging me about the marshmallow update is a problem I'm having with bluetooth streaming, songs aren't resuming when I disconnect/reconnect they restart. I doubt this update will fix it anyway, from what I've read it might have to wait until 6.0.1 is released..

Did you unroot your phone using a fabulous Lenovo K3 Note Manager 3.0? What about replacing TWRP with stock recovery? Does Note manager replace it automaticaly?
Thanks a lot, A.

I used version 3 to root the phone, but I haven't tried unrooting it yet.
After update the wifi is very stable and i am getting the full bandwidth that my ISP provide.
Any way this update can be packaged as an update.zip ??
My phone is rooted and on TWRP (s422 clean rom)... I would rather not unroot, and redo the stock recovery, just for this update, but I am getting data connection drops after power cycling.

Use this Slick S424 ROM: http://www.needrom.com/download/slick-s424-row/
Make a complete backup via TWRP and follow the instructions below, than restore only data partitions you made before. Works like a charm
Thanks... Did that (not seamlessly) and its currently just updating my apps..

After updating, I found some issues. One of them is Ebay client - does not work anymore :crying:
Isn't there a way to replace the updater script from the original lenovo 4mb 424 update with a modified one so it works with TWRP?
But how sir give me updater scripts
I just flashed the s424 TWRP backup over my S422.. worked fine.. Kept root and TWRP.

So was your phone rooted?
Did you lose the root access after updating or was it still there? AFAIK this update shouldn't do anything to root, but you can never tell

Checked for the new JB update, downloaded it. I went to install it and it got about a third of the way there, failed, rebooted and I am still on 4.0.4
Then it gives me a notification saying the update failed to which I can only press OK.
I've tried to update three times now and it does the same thing.
My phone is rooted, but I don't think that should cause problems

why dont u just make a nandroid, fastboot back to stock ics with rsd, dont root your phone or do if you think it doesnt matter which ur right ive flashed the leak and official multiple times already both rooted and not, boot back to recovery and try it again...i heard this might help although i never have had to but rename it update.zip.
heres the one i used have never had a problem:

Hi, I've downloaded the OTA update from Verizon for my Razr M three times this morning because each install shows "The Software Update Failed". It'd be just peachy if they didn't make me download all 250 MB each time I tried. Sheesh.
Aside from that, it's still not updating. This phone is rooted, but has never had a custom ROM put on it.
Hmmm...now that I think about it, I do have a bunch of apps disabled, including some Verizon apps, etc. I'll try enabling them and trying this all again.
Hmmm...didn't work. Still getting the failed error message. Going to back everything up and do a Factory Reset.

I am currently having the same issue in attempting to download/install the latest VZ update. I've done a factory reset and tried voodoo rootkeeper to temp unroot the phone to no avail. The only modifications I had made before the reset were deleting some of the bloatware manually with root explorer- those apps were subsequently restored from the reset.
Any idea how I can update the phone? Given that there is currently no way to install a custom ROM currently and can only delete bloatware, I'm thinking rooting this phone doesn't really help much if we are then not able to update it

I've restored the phone to stock ICS via the Fastboot method. This allowed me to automatically update to Official Jellybean.

I upgraded to JB via OTA from Verizon, you will not lose anything if you upgrade that way, nor will you have to setup anything again. If you flash it through RSD lite than you probably will lose everything plus have to go thru the setup process again. Hope this helps. Make sure you uninstall safe strap recovery and if you're rooted make sure you backup and save root via the voodoo app, before accepting the OTA. I found out the hard way. If you don't uninstall the safe strap recovery the OTA will fail every time.
Being rooted does not have anything to do with the OTA failing. Its safe strap if you are using that.

The update isn't working for me, even after reflashing the stock recovery. Did you have to do anything special to get it to work, or have you not modified the ROM at all?

I had the stock 4.4.3 ROM rooted and with the Xposed Framework installed. No custom recovery or custom kernel ever installed (I always used "fastboot boot /path/to/recovery.img" rather than installing a recovery). The update worked fine for me. All I had to do was (after updating to 4.4.4) go into the Xposed framework installer, tell it to update/install the framework. I installed the 4.4.4 update through the OTA notification I received, not through the link in this thread. For me, the update was 41.1MB not 45MB. I downloaded the OTA over WiFi.
Before I installed the update, I booted ClockworkMod Recovery (again, booted not flashed) and made a nandroid backup. It couldn't backup my /data partition because it's encrypted, so I also made a full backup with Titanium Backup.
Full stock, no mods yet

I had same problem
I was on 4.3.3 stock using exposed installer, I used MotoToolAioV3 to restore stock recovery then took OTA, during install I kept getting an error.
The solution for me was to download stock recovery from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53702274&postcount=268
extract the recovery then use MotoToolAioV3 to flash it, then accept the OTA and it should work, then if you're using exposed installer do what the other poster said and re-install xposed. Hope this helps.

As I understand it, the main changes from 4.4.3 are compatibility with more SD cards, and some security updates to things like OpenSSL. I'm now able to use my 64GB Samsung EVO class 10 (MB-MP64DA/AM).
I managed to get the update installed after completely reflashing to stock (leaving the bootloader unlocked.)

New update is pretty great. Previously on 4.4.3 the radio would drop all connections seemingly at random when starting up a music app or YouTube, but after upgrading to 4.4.4 the radio seems to hold a much more consistent connection with fewer drops (none so far) . I previously thought this might have been a faulty SIM
My phone kept nagging me to update and I kept exiting out. Apparently somehow I hit install and it updated. I'm on 4.4.4 according to the phone, I don't remember what I was on before I might have been on 4.4.2. I used these files to downgrade from Lollipop previously:
G900VVRU1ANK2_G900VVZW1ANK2_G900VVRU1ANK2_HOME.tar and G900V_NCG_Stock_Kernel.tar
How do I regain root?

Odin the NGC file down in the notes #4 then root with towelroot. Download SuperSU from play store. Update binaries and reboot phone. If you want safestrap as a recovery you must first download busybox from the play store and install it. Then safestrap will install properly.

Next time install titanium backup pro and freeze SDM to stop the updates.

The note #4 states
4. If you do not already have root access you must first flash the G900VVRU1ANCG_Full_Odin.tar (flash in Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+)), root with Towelroot (this version does not require internet access), then proceed with the above process.

Yes, this is actually for the S5.
The difference is all the FCs you have to wade through. Also, the one I suggested is a clean and complete reinstall. It will wipe your SD card and you start fresh. Both will work provided you are not on lollipop. If you are on lollipop you should use the method I suggested.

Sorry FC's? I am unfamiliar with the abbreviation. Also was confused when you said SDM, what does that stand for so I know what to freeze when I do it? Much appreciated.
Edit: Also is there a particular reason you recommended a full wipe of everything? I only ask because I hate doing wipes and I never did find a good way to back stuff up really.

FC = force close (aka crash)
SDM - Samsung Data Migration (freeze update software)
Not to answer for tulsadiver... but in my opinion wiping ensures you get rid of any stray "orphan" files that may be even a little borked. Has happened to me before so wiping is often a good way to go.

Hi guys,
I rooted my s3 successfully, but now cannot install the 19s update. I've tried undoing the root and updating afterwards unsuccessfully. Do you guys have any other things I can try? Do I need to re flash the stock ROM?
Thanks !
Rooting typically breaks OTA updates in my experience. You can try flashing stock + stock recovery and then take the OTA. I'm not 100% sure that'll work, but it should.
Come to think of it, I think it's more twrp that breaks OTAs and not root.

No prob, it happens. I keep seeing .20 builds on YouTube, that add theme store/more theme support and fingerprint sensor gestures. So I might want to do an OTA soon myself. Let us know if 99's solution works.

it wont. i fiddled with my S3 last night and accidently booted TWRP as "read/write", which the OTA can detect as it runs a checksum on the /system partition. if the system partition has EVER been mounted as read/write it changes, and therefore the OTA file will never flash/install. the only way around it is to have someone do a full system image backup from TWRP via a "fastboot boot twrp.img" then selecting to keep TWRP mounted as read only. this also affects all of us on the Pro3 (i have both). it would be wise if we could pull full system images for all US models as there are no full ROM's available
instructions on how to do that are here:

Hey man,
I followed your instructions in your post in that thread, but the modified ota update fails to flash as well, and upon reboot I'm back at my old home screen. Perhaps it was an error on my part throughout the bootloader unlock process; I'm also dumb and didn't know how to boot TWRP into read-only mode (what I did was check the "mount system as read-only" option in the "Mount" menu, don't know if that was right!).
Either way, congrats on getting your phone back to receiving OTAs!

Hi all,
I got the update message(I'm on the RU firmware) but I'm also rooted and twrpd so my question is the following...Will the update process complete without me reverting to stock or will I have to before I go to 6.0?
Cheers
I don't recive the notification but I also wonder
I didn't have the patience to let the OTA download at a crawl while the servers are getting hammered, so I don't know, but I'm guessing it would fail. What I did do was download the full update from the MM thread, and "Install" it with TWRP (wiped cache etc after install). I haven't re-rooted yet, but it's running fine.

Just check to see if they fixed the download speed problem and it looks like they've pulled the update out!
My download of the update cut out and now I can't see it either.
I stay with the Android 5 for the momment, the differences is worth it?
Well I did what hippy dave did and it seems to be working.
Something I wish could be customized is the bottom buttons on the EPD. The home button on the black theme is way too big :/
Done same as Dave, also installed superus and xposed, all fine =) other doubt I have, sometimes the back screen seens harder to unblock, anyone know why it happens or how to fix it? It have anything to do with the light in the place I am?

From my fresh experience: install full version from torrent (http://4pda.ru/forum/dl/post/9988519/yotaphone2-user-full-RU1.1.47.zip.torrent) through TWRP, wipe cache, install SuperSU. And after that steps - reboot. All datas and apps on it's places.
