WiFi card in xdaII

WiFi card in xdaII......
I have installed a sandisk wifi card in the xdaii and it detects hot spots ok but when i try to open a page in IE comes up page not found. I have the network card settings to "this card connects to the internet etc" and i think i'm doing everything ok. surely not all the hotspots in manchester uk can be locked can they?? are we really a nation of paranoid people?? I don't want to crash networks just get me a free fast connection in St Ann's Square whilst I'm having lunch!!
any ideas.
well if i had a wireless lan and a connection to the internet i surely would have a firewall aswell
suppose the easiest way to find out where your issue is, is if you have a wireless lan at home which you can test the connection with
read a review which say that the sandisk card works ok with the xda2
The SanDisk WiFi card works for sure. I'm writing this with it.
Check the network settings under Settings->Connections->Network->Extended->Networkcard->Wireless. You may have to manually select and enable the network.

I have just enquired of Expansys UK if the Sandisk WiFi SD Card will work with the XDA II and they said NO, it has problems???? As I can't find another WiFi D card anywhere, it leaves me a little frustrated. Particularly as it seems it (XDA II) doesn't work with Tom Tom Navigator 11 Bluetooth either, which was my next purchase! If a few people can CONFIRM that the XDA 11 does actually work with the Sandisk WiFi Card, I'll risk buying one, as I need WiFi. Many thanks Steve
Not being to rude here, however Expansys told you crap.. I'm using one here which was purchased from Expansys. Albeit a little difficult to set up I'm online with my own home wireless Network.
There is another WiFi card available in the market, saw it in an interview with XDA sales people, it's from Socket. Got a review here.
http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/tips/socket_SD_wifi.htm
work for me
sundisk worked for me right from the box. no driver to install.
just entered my home wlan wep password and got connected.
The original person asking about it: if a network need a key,
it can often show up as "active" but in IE will simply won't load anything...

Hi there, thanks for your response. I access the Internet via a Broadband connection through a Wireless Router in my Office and wish to use the XDA II around the office on occasion (with a working WiFi SD Card installed). Have you used your WiFi card in similar circumstances? I am cautious because Bluetooth Car Kit doesn't work, Bluetooth GPS doesn't work at the moment (appreciate this is not WiFi) but trying to buy something this time around THAT DOES WORK with the XDA II. many thanks Steve
Your impression regarding the XDA II is wrong.
Thanks to TOWA Bluetooth GPS does work. Its just that Microsoft is trying to impose a different Bluetooth architecture than that HP has been using with the IPAQ (they've done it before and they'll do it again).
As I said above, I've been using the SanDisk WiFi-card on my XDA II since day 1 when I got the device. I've used in at home with my wireless router, in the office through an access point and in the hotspot at Starbucks.
Only problems I've had sofar were in one network that was using a D-Link access point, where I couldn't get in - on the other hand also my PC had problems with this network).
When you insert the card that LED on it should start flashing. If it doesn't turn solid green(yellow) after a few minutes, the network is not connecting. You can check this through the applet on the task bar (Wireless network status). If it says searching it hasn't found or connected to your network. In this case go to Settings->Connections-->Connections->Extended->Networkcard. Ith should list the available networks. Select your network and select Connect on the options popup-menu. If you have encryption enabled it will ask you for the paramters (I've had to got through this procedure a couple of times when I put in a wrong code on the initial setup).
If the LED is solid green then you have connected to the network. If PIE doesn't work check the IP-settings again using that applet on the task bar (Wireless Network Status).
ANd I'm sure that Bluetooth Car Kit will be working soon also. But then again, the XDA doesn't have (andd never promised) Voice Dialing anyway. :?
Quote ex tbd.immigrantsong.de "Your impression regarding the XDA II is wrong."
Thanks for this. I am really pleased with my XDA II. I guess I wanted to install Bluetooth GPS and Handsfree Bluetooth in my car and then found that my chosen purchases the Tom Tom Navigator 2 Bluetooth GPS and the Parrot CK3000 Handsfree Car kit don't currently work with the XDA II Bluetooth. I understand that Tom Tom/O2 etc are working on it.
A colleague has since told me that I wouldn't get BOTH devices working together in my car at the same time anyway. i.e. I could have a Bluetooth Car Kit or a Bluetooth GPS but not have the 2 devices working together? Do you know if this is correct? I appreciate your help on this.
My Wireless Network/Broadband router is the Netgear 824M 802.11B and this is what I wish to use in conjunction with SD WIFI Card in my XDA II.
When I tried to order from Expansys and told them it eas for use with an O2 XDA II they said "It will not work" so you can see my predicament. £100+ purchase then possible not work, and they have pre-warned me, so a refund would be looking iffy?
Best regards Steve Grunnill
@Steve Grunnill
I don´t know what Expansys UK says about the SanDisk WiFI, I have bought one for 3 weeks ago using with the XDA II without any problem , just works.
I´m using too TomTom with a SatNav Bluetooth GPS and a BT headset.
Of couse I use Towas bluetooth patch.

JoseF
Steve,
If you read this thread, you'll discover that someone called Towa has fixed the Bluetooth problem, so you should be fine once you've applied his patch. Here's a quote from that thread of someone who can answer your question about simultaneous Bluetooth connections:

So there you have it!
I have the same problem as Xdaer, I've received advice off-forum from various people (thanks Faisal, tbd and others) but I still can't browse my broadband connection. All I keep getting is that 'this page cannot be found'
Can anyone who has successfully done this please just post the settings they have at their 'network card' settings?
BTW, I understand that its currently impossible to activesync via wifi, can anyone confirm/deny this?
@andygarside
I use to active sync via wifi.
I´m using a Sandisk SD wifi card. XDA II.
I have at home a D-link 614+ with the firmware upgrade (D-link)
It just works.
When I travell and try to connect to some hot spots that are password protected, then I get the messange can´t load the page.
But will normal unprocteded spots no problems. Okey in same airports you have to pay to access the AP but thats another story.

JoseF
@andygarside
Under connections->Advanced->Network card-> wireless tab, you should see your signal labeled 'available' or connected.
The networks to access is 'all available'
and check 'automatically connect to non-preferred networks'
in the network adapters tab, you should
my network connects to (work or internet) - works with both for me, but each time it reverts to work, even if i save internet..
see the San DisK Wifi card, clicking on it should give you
the ip address screen on one tab and the name server in another tab. in my case i have to specify the ip, the subnet and the default gateway (rather than server assigned), and the name server
Then under connections->select networks-> 'programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using: here i have the name of the network which you configured above.
this should be easily visible from the connections->tasks tab and you can now set the proxy from here - usually with port 8080.
I hope this helps - let me know if it works and do ask again if i am missing out something here..
get a connection but no luck surfing!
hi every1,
iv followed d instructions etc but no luck browsing however i get a padlock icon in the corner with a red slash across it - what does that mean?
thanks in advance!
Please don't flame...
But i've just got an xdaII... i've set up wireless all over the house and was told the xda supports wifi... you lot are talking about a wifi attachment... does that mean i can't use the xdaII on my wirless netwrok without the sandisk modem?
Thanks

you're correct. the XDA II doesnt have builtin WiFi, you need
a small attachment "sandisk wifi card". search for it via google.
Faisal, followed your instructions to the letter and....... it works!! Thanks ever so much, I'm really grateful!
Now, last question, can I activesync via WiFi?
Thanks again.....
Andy.
andygarside
Great to hear that it worked and i am delighted to have been of help.
I have not tried synching via Wi-Fi - so i have no idea. Do let me know if you get it to work.
One can obviously access an email account, though i have not been able to access my mail on the exchange server via WiFi for some reason but i suspect it is a configuration issue that i have not sorted so far

Internet on the hotel

Hello,
I have a quick but maybe not so easy question.
I am here at a hotel. I can connect to the hotel free public network. but for some reason i can't see the opeening page of the hotel. They use a redirecting page where you have to fill in the user numerber and password.
With my laptop it is no problem.
So the problem is: I can connect to the wifi network, but i don't see the redirecting page.
Just for the record, at home i've been already on the internet with my HD.

what happens when you turn on the wifi on your hd? does it find the network and can you connect?
I can connect to the network, but if try to reach the internet i won't work.
With my laptop it works.
Opera or IE?
or both?
maybe try putting in the page address that your laptop gets redirected to, directly into the HD?
it happens with both of them.
i also tried the direct ipadress but that didn't work also.
is there some ping or ipconfig option in the HD?
Is the WiFi adapter using "Internet" and not "Work"?
Search for vxIPconfig - software from Cambridge that is useful for IP troubleshooting.
with the tool everything looks ok.
Ip adress 10.59.2.132
subnet mask 255.255.252.0
default gateway 10.59.1.1
DHCP server 10.59.1.1
Primary WINS: blank
Secondary WINS: blank
Lease optained: date, time ->ok
Lease expires: date, time+5min -> ok
everything seems to be all right, don't they.
Did one of u guys already connected to susch a network in a hotel or airport where you first being redirected to a login page?
what did i do wrong?
Same problem
Hi, I have same problem in my work. At my home, I can work with my wifi, everything is perfect, but in my work, we are using redirect to page, where I have to fill my username a pass. Wifi on my work is connected, but no page is displayed.....
Thanks for any solution....
exactly what i mean
Try changing the "User Agent". Look around in the forum how to do that.
Also make sure you have "best performance" selected for wifi.
i just switched it to best performance and now it works!
Just explain how can that be?
'Best performance' basically means that your wifi connection is allowed to use more power. This increases it's functionality (so a wider range, better reception, higher speeds etc.) yet decreases battery life.
I don't know the exact facts concerning battery drain vs. performance, but this is what i've noticed when using the HD.. so it's an educated guess.
When I read the TS I immediatly thought of another thing that might be the solution for problems with wifi business networks: certificates. In order to get my own HD working wireless at work, I had to install something like the 'SecureW2' certificate.

Share home internet connexion in Wifi

Hi everyone,
Today, I try to share my ADSL internet connexion in Wifi via my HD2 but in vain.
What I'd like to do is to share the internet connexion from my PC to my HD2 with USB cable and then to share this connexion by Wifi to others PC or PPC. i-e, to use my HD2 as a really router-wifi will do.
Do you guys have already done this?
thank you

You can't do it mate. The wifi router on the HD2 will ONLY route its own data connection. You need a wifi router for you want. Sorry.
ok,
but anyone knows a software which can handle it? or at least, is it possible to share the connexion from the computer to the HD2? Or do I have to forget about it right now?

Sorry mate, but yeah. Forget about it. I'd say that I'd eat my phone if anyone ever finds a way of doing that, but I just can't bring myself to even imagine eating my lovely HD2
thank you
brain cleared !
Hi dude, are you ready to eat your lovely HD2
I found that software : wmwifirouter (actually someone told me to use it)
and it does exactly what I want.
Here is the tip to made the connexion working : link
there is a 21 days trial version and then the software is 19.99€
I want to see the video of you eating your phone on youtube... (Just kidiing )
PS : since I am a new user, I can't post outside links. Where can I ask to change that ? thank you
You can only connect one device at a time though..

You'll have to settle with me being happy to be corrected mate. I'm about to eat something, but it's more likely to be made by my mate at Subway than by HTC!

That changes when you've made a few more posts. Not sure exactly how many, but it's not a lot. (I've got 7 in my head for some reason, but it may be 10).
How to share my ADSL internet connection using Wifi to my HD2?
To use my PC as access point?

There's only 8 posts above yours. Surely that's not too much for you to read yourself? The answer is 3 posts up from yours.
Yes, but i don't understand quite well. Corect me if i am wrong, WMWifiRouter is software for Cell phone, I need software for PC or an explanation how to. My PC is an acces point. Under Win 7 i created a wireless network connection (I have Asus P5K-E WI FI AP MB) and connected my HD2 but when i start opera i get error massage about connection.
Well, I did it. Now I can connect to PC by my Leo and browse internet through my PC WiFi connection and ADSL modem
No extra charge!
It is quite simple under win 7.
One should first make bridge connecton between Local area connection and Wireless network connection. IP adresses should be configured manualy.
In phone first activate Wi-Fi, go to advanced>>change network>>computer-to-computer>>network adapters>>Broadcom802.11 DHD Network adapter and set IP according to PC. Then go to connections and set IP also.
You can even do simpler, you just need to right-click on your LAN connection, select properties, advanced, click share connection, connect your wifi connection in the dropdown below if it appears. IP can be dynamic in this case, the PC willmake a DHCP server.
It's not what the original poster wanted to do though. He wanted to use the HD2 basically as an "outgoing" USB wifi adapter for a PC that doesn't have one.
Nope. I don't see that dropdown menu. But, never mind. I have one question for you, I can't browse directory structure of my PC from phone or to connect to PC as a client. Is there any program for that, or an explanation. Tnx.

[Q] Any solution to keep IP from changing?

I know that this thread will probably be over in approximately 3 posts, but I figured this was the place to ask to get a good answer.
I am part of staff for a site that uses my IP to enable staff functions. These functions are set to the IP I'm on. However, it never works considering my IP constantly changes when I'm on the T-Mobile network, and I do not have access to wifi. Is there any possible way at all, to be able to make this work, either from my N1, or on my PC using my N1 as a 3G hotspot? I'm not all that knowledgeable about networking, but I'm thinking there has to be some possible way to make this work somehow. Maybe I'm wrong and it is one of the impossible things to do on a cell network.
Thanks for any help.
how often does it change ? is the running at home or the pc u are tethering with it ? are you using a 3g network service for a server
Every couple minutes at least. One minute it's for example, something like 208.54.27.50 and in a matter of 5 minutes the last two digits could be changed. I use the 3G hotspot at home and there's no difference from that and using the phone's browser itself. I do not use T-Mobile 3G to operate any servers.
If it is via your provider you have no control over it changing as they assign you a dynamic IP. If you were at home you could set it to a static local IP (Over WiFi) but outside your LAN on T-Mobile's WAN you have no control over DHCP
All I use for internet access on the go and at home is the 3G hotspot that I get from my phone. Would I need an actual Wifi connection from an ISP other than T-Mobile to set it to a static local IP?
looks like that just cant be done.. either ur site changes ur auth to id pw based one(atleast in ur case)
or ..
if its a job of just checking somthing, u can find a friend or family member with a 24/7 online pc(with a a static ip) and just do the job thru a remote desktop connection
All right guys. Thanks. Very much appreciate your thoughts and for not flaming me due to an obvious answer. Thank you again.

Can't use cellular data while connect to local only WiFi (GoPro)

Hi, I would like to use my S8 to livestream my gopro (with a self made app based on FFmpeg), for that I need to be connected to the GoPro stream via WiFi and I need to use my cellular data (LTE) to send it to a streaming server.
In my test I noticed this phone is unable to keep both connection open at the same time, it was not the case on my previous LG G4, I was also able to test on a nexus 5X where it worked successfully, so I blame the samsung software (PS: I just did an update, didn't change anything).
I tried every options (and combination possible), keep cell data, agressive wifi/cell, both in dev' settings, also smart wifi (agressive or not) in regular settings... And it didn't change anything (the smart thing only either fully disable the wifi connection to local only wifi or connects fully to it and awaits internet connection).
I found this thread on samsung forum https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...internet-while-connected-to-GoPro/td-p/185875 with no answer...
Do you guys have any solution?
Quick edit: I did try to use "Download booster" thing but it doesn't help, it seems the phone is still using the wifi for DNS, I tried with and without smart switch thing... They really didn't think about people using WiFi without internet connection voluntary??
Thanks
same problem here, i don' t know how to fix it. you can share your code? with other guys we are trying to do a solution to live stream gopro on android , if you want i'll link it to you
It cannot be done as we cannot change our IP, Default Gateway, or Subnet on our WiFi.
With iOS you can, thus why iOS users can use the GoPro and LTE simultaneously.
Enjoy.
