Help identifying the little hole next to sim card tray - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I was swapping out my sim card and not paying attention - I accidentally pressed my sim opener into the other little hole that is near the sim card opening hole.
As it didnt open and I wasnt looking I naturally pressed harder, then i looked and realized I am pressing in the wrong hole!
Bit worried I might have damaged something, I hope this hole is not for mic or anything, I have googled but I cannot find out what this hole is for.
The hole in question is the one to the right of the sim card tray, there is only one other hole on the top of the bezel and this is the one I pushed into

Thanks, is this the mic that is only used when the loudspeaker is, as I presume the mic when using the phone normally is at the bottom of the phone

Yes but when I activate speaker in-call, only top mic reives my voice. That means not for only cancellation. Hope hasnt damaged it..

Skyhigh too, if you have seconday device near you or someone's, call and check if you wonder, never mind..

I tested the top mic.
The scenario is when a call is active:
- when normal speaker is on the top mic does nothing and the bottom mic receives sound.
- when loudspeaker is on the top mic picks up sound and the bottom mic turns off
Try is, make a call to another phone, play some music or something into the the top and bottom mic's, you will notice that the top mic only receives the sound when the galaxy has its loudspeaker on - also, when the loudspeaker is on the bottom mic doesnt receive any sound.

ps, luckily there is no damage to it.
I have 2 edge+ and I tried the one I pressed into by accident, then immediately after I tried the other one.
The sound on the other end of the phone is the same. Means the little mic at the top is pretty strong, must have a mesh gauze or something protecting it?
Anyone have a pic of the internal part>

Yup, thats what I said. Glad to know its not damaged.

I realize this is an old thread. But I just did the same thing with my note 8. OP did you ever run into issues after you did this?

OMG. I just did the same thing. On an old note 5.

I did this on edge plus but thought that was IR sensor, googled but no info to find and finally here...I hope it is not damaged & even if, much relaxed to know it is secondary in a sense, and does not harm the functioning...

What is the best mic fix for this tablet?

I'm new to this tablet, only had it a week and relized people cant hear me when i Skype with them. So before i purchase a head phone set with a mic on it i wanted to ask here to find out what is the best solution ??
I use a stereo headphone (make Wesc - more or less 50 €) with a little microphone which is located on the cable (close to the headphone). The sound is crystal clear.
I didn't find any other solution for using voip (skype, google) with this tablet.
I use it in three ways.
1- like castafiore do.
2- using only a headphone, no mic. (use the internal mic)
3- using speakers conect to heatphone plug. (use the internal mic)
I think that the "plug" disconect something internal in reference with the "cancel noise system."
Please excuse my bad english.

So are you saying that all I need is head phones no mic?
Yes.
If you want better results, you can install: "volume control"
market.android.com/details?id=com.revsodev.volumecontrol&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5yZXZzb2Rldi52b2x1bWVjb250cm9sIl0.
and high the "in-call volume".
Try skype test.
I talk with my son every night and he hear me wery well.
Unlike tabasco22 even though the noise is reduced when there is something plugged into the headphone jack, the internal mic is not usable for skype.
it seems that there are many headphone/mic sets that work, though i have tried 2 iphone sets that do not .

Making a hole?
There is another solution: take off the back cover of the tablet. If you do a test with the two microphones totally uncovered (as I've done myself), you will notice that there is NO improvement at all.
Evidently, the problem doesn't come from there...

Anybody tried remove second mic? I mean sound canceling mic. Or maybe just cover it with tape.
I think it's a software problem, between the level of the microphone and cancel noise system level
This problem disappears when you insert any kind of plug into the speaker output., which cancels the "noise canceling system".
deepdelete, you phisicaly disconect the "sound cancelling mic" when you insert a plug.
I think sensitivity of sound canceling mic must be lower, or it must be placed somewhere else.
Sure there is also possibility to correct things with software mod.

Yes, I did try that as well. But it doesn't make any difference neither.
I think you could be right, deepdelete. The second microphone on the a500 faces the back of the tablet (opposit the user).
But the 2 microphones are so closed to each other that the desired effect (as explained on the link you give), the "noise-cancelling", doesn't work properly. It's just a guess but it sounds logical (to me, anyway ).
Surprised nobody mentioned, removing the tab from the cover if you use one.
Found this out the hard way. Tab's cover, actually covered the mic! And, if I held it in my hands, it actually picked up the residual sound my fingers made when holding it. Resulted in a "garbled" sound on the other end.
I found with skype, the best thing, was to remove it from the cover, and place it on the covers "stand".
Where is the microphone located? I can't even use the voice search function with mine.
STUPID MIC locations... AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN
There are two mics..
ONE is dead center in the grove between the glass and case at the top of screen. you will see a tiny slot..
the second one.. on the right of the sd card door you will see a tiny hole.. Its right under there.. This one is for background noise canceling. Like from the a500s own speaker.. and does not work well.. The mic works ok with yahoo messenger.. if YOU HAVE NO BACKGROUND NOISE AROUND or you cover that back mic..on not well BUT BETTER THEN IT DOES WITH GTALK OR skype ..
it just sucks is all there is to it.. I tried replacing the mic with a high end known to work well mic . NO LUCK So its either a hardware chip.. or software issue.. Do not think this will ever be fixed .. USE HEADPHONES

Raising Mic Volume

I was wondering if anyone knows how to raise the mic volume on a call. I use a car arm to use my phone to listen to music and answer calls while I'm driving. I've noticed that the mic volume is very low while the headphone jack is use (can't hardy hear me). Of I turn on the speaker feature on the call, the mic volume fixes itself. I was wondering is there was a way to raise the mic volume with the headphone jack in use .
Thanks in advance.

If you search for mic call on N4 threads you will see lots of complains and no answer. Seems like noise cancelation is the problem but still no luck
Stick your finger over the top microphone while you're talking. That will make the N4 send all the signal from the bottom microphone, effectively eliminating noise suppression but letting your voice come through okay.

did it with no success, in fact that should be the solution for some reason it doesnt work for me
Dunno, then; I was just reporting the experience of a user in a different thread. I haven't had a phone call in the car since then, so I don't know whether it would work for me or not.
Just a thought -- my car mount has movable feet, and I have to make sure that one of them doesn't cover the microphone hole on the bottom. I don't know if your mount potentially has the same problem or not.

[Q] {ISSUE} Nexus 4 - Microphone does not work on normal mode, but works on speakers

Hi,
I've been using Nexus 4, and recently this issue started.
when I try to call, the other side can not hear my voice.
However, if I turn on the loudspeaker the mic works fine.
So, the probably the hardware is fine because the same mic works fine when used in loudspeaker mode.
I've not installed anything, not changed anything, its a brand new device.
I've tried starting in Safe mode, it doesn't help.
i was using the stock android from google all these days and issue started. I have now migrated to Cyanogenmod 11 and the issue still persits.
I have downloaded an app from play store called soundabout to try convince my phone that there was no headset plugged in. But of no use yet.
Any help on this please

Does your earpiece speaker work normally? If so I can only guess the nexus 4 uses top mic for loudspeaker calls. If your bottom mic has failed its easily fixed as it comes as part of the charging block.
It could just be something blocking the mic. Does your voice sound muffled or is it no audio at all?

Probably is just dust or something then, get a dental pick or something and try and clear the mic hole from the outside. If it still doesn't work you might have to disassemble the phone and remove the blockage.
I had the same problem and I use the application soundabout to resolv it
Nexus 4 MIC not work - all answers listed

Sound

Strange, when i make a call, I can hear the person on the other side, but they can't hear me.
When i use intercom speaker it works, they can hear me and also when i use my headphone.
nothing strange with sound setup. I even did a reset still the same. Please help.
I'm on original stock firmware. No root or unlock.
Check the microphone hole next to the speaker on the bottom. They've been known to fill with gunk.

HELP! LG V20 microphone..

I don't know why so sudden my V20 got problem with it's mic.. There is even a bigger problem which is I don't even know what to be replaced now..
There is 2 situation here :
1 - When in call, with normal mode..everything is working fine but whenever i'm trying to put my phone to loudspeaker mode.. The people whose in call with me is claiming that there is a dead silence when i'm in loudspeaker mode..
Same goes when i'm in Whatsapp Videocall as example, i can hear them but they can't even hear me..
2 - When i'm doing recording with HD Voice Recorder app, the left channel won't even got anything recorded.. Only the right channel does the job..
Same goes with video recording, only right channel does the job while the left channel sound records nothing..
I'll be informed that V20 have 3 mic and it is obviously one at top and one at the bottom while another one is inside the phone nearby the earpiece if i'm not mistaken.. so now, i'll need help.. Which mic should i'll replace to get everything working again?
I'll believe my top mic is broken but which one? The one at the left before the earpiece or at the right next to earpiece? HELPPpPpppPpppPp
nevermind, got mine fixed.. just replace the new mic at the top and now i have back my fully functional V20 again..
i'll never know that phone is using a different mic for normal call mode and loudspeaker call mode.. Now i'm feeling like an idiot because everytime i'll do loudspeaker, i do scream at the bottom mic while it is using top mic ATM.. gosh
I just got mine and no one could hear me, i pushed a thumb tack in the bottom mic hole because it looked like a little plug or plastic was blocking it and and now it works fine, mine was a refurb phone
Bottom mic
My phone mics worked in speaker phone calls but not talking through the regular in-call mic. I had a repair man change the bottom mic today. He had to install 4 mics to get it and the one that worked was out if a Samsung phone! Cost me USD$60. Apparently my phone had water damage before I bought it used. That's annoying but I'm back in business!
I am in the same exact situation. Replaced the main loudspeaker, top two earpiece speakers and still my voice won't come through on the other end of a normal headset mode call. Only can speak through loudspeaker. What part must I replace? I'm thinking normal headset mode sound is received through the pinhole area next to the 3.5mm jack. What part do I replace?! It's getting personal now. I will fix this phone!!
Not counting the two earpiece speakers up top on the mainboard, and the large loudspeaker on the bottom what other speakers are there for me to replace?
