Encryption Speeds? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

What's the performance of the phone with encrypted OS and ExtSD? Especially bootup. Worth it or not?

The phone comes Pre-Encrypted, I doubt that an encrypted sd card will make much of a difference on system performance.

Performance is horrible

I recently setup apps2sd on my g1 with 1.5. I also use swapper and since I setup apps2sd, performance has been horrendous with or without swap on. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix? Is my card just too slow? I don't know what class it is. Thanks for the advice
if your card doesn't have a 6 on it....its too slow.
did you buy a new card other than the one the G1 came with?
My apps are a little slower to startup after apps2sd but I figure it's worth it to have 100 X's more capacity.
It's not the stock card and I'm assuming it's not a class 6. However, I went back to using stock home instead of openhome and performance increased dramatically. Apparently openhome uses too much memory and causes other apps to swap to the same card it pulls apps from.

I'm tired of repeating that SD classes are only a rating for minimum sustained write speed. Maximum speeds are usually significantly higher, and vary from card to card based on the size of the file written.
Right, but if you make one that qualifies as a class 6, you wouldn't write a 2 on it unless you're a moron and want to undervalue it.

Did you use the JF1.5 Lucid modded one? try not moving the data/cache to sd. That was the problem i was having. When i moved it over, it was verrrry sluggish.

Try DXtop instead of openhome.
yes, im using JF but i dont think I copied over any apps or cache. performance is slightly better since I upgraded and wiped but still doesn't feel like what it should be. maybe I will buy a new card

The new Dude build is pretty fast. Give it a try.

ultimate phone guide... ie How to setup your phone to run the fastest please.

i'm just curious if there is a way or a guide on how to setup your phone to be the most efficient and fastest that it can offer?
what i'm really asking is there a tweakers guide to making the WILDFIRE run as smoothly as possible..
Also i'm wondering if there is a specific way to setup your sd card so that your phone could utilize some of the space on the card so that it could use it as ram at all so that the phone may respond a little faster.
Yes there are several ways...one of them is to change your wildfire for desire..
I am just fooling around...
I think you should look for cyogen rom or some ono that is faster that stock and overclock your processor and I thing thats the only way to improve performance significantly, all other ways are not much or not at all worth your atencion...and thats just my apinion.
There's very little you can do really, as stated above, and this is probably why there's no guide.
* Install an AOSP Based Custom ROM (Openfire or CM)
* OC your CPU
* Have as less background apps running as possible.
Not much else you can do.
As for using the SD Card as RAM, I am pretty sure its not possible. Besides, logically, the SD Card is way slower than Flash RAM, so, using it as a RAM device will actually cause the phone to slow down and lag.
thanks guys... been a big help.
Also one last thing..
i hear that there are different classes of sd card.. What card should i be looking at to upgrade to as i have a standard 2GB SD and wanted to know a little more about it ... any ideas please would be great
A Class 4 card should suffice. Anything above that doesn't give majorly noticeable results on the Wildfire.

I guess its okay to use swap. Swap increases your ram and so you can preform better multitasks.
I think the con is that the phone gets slow if your SD card is not good. But i am really not sure on this one

SWAP expands your RAM, so when you have it, you can open more apps than than you could without it.
If You're not trying to run many RAM-eating apps at the same time, you're only wasting your SD space.
I close every app i don't need, so SWAP i useless for me. Also i'm using Dorimanx ROM, which when SWAP is enabled has no built in task manager. If it wasnt like that, i would probably have it, just in case.
About slowing phone down: SWAP will never work as fast as RAM, since it has slower access time than native RAM. It's just to keep everything going even if you ran out of RAM, maybe a little slower, but still.

Is anyone seeing performance benefits when not encrypted?

On my Nexus6, running non-encrypted was night and day performance difference. On the 6p I'm not really seeing any benefit. Benchmarks are about the same in antutu, geekbench, and androbench. However it "feels" snappier, but maybe that's placebo.
i'm encrypted and i notice theres lag and slowdown compared to my old oneplus, which shouldnt happen. i'm wondering if its because encryption is causing that and is there a way for me to disable encryption?

yes, you can disable. You need to run a boot image that supports it, and a rom that supports it. Your device will need to be wiped.

Lg d722 ram expansion? [howto]

Greetings fellow persons
I have a LG D722 and I wish to breathe some new life into this phone
I have heard that you can expand ram with the use of an sd card
Here are my questions
Does my phone support such a function?
IF root is needed, will it still work after i disable root?
Do i just get a 10 speed XXGB sd card?
What would be the best sd card to choose in terms of speed (that the phone supports)
What (free) app should i use?
If you need any additional info, let me know
Thanks

This is not possible. Even if it was possible, it would be way too slow because ram is way faster than an sd-card.
EDIT: You can use a SWAP file, but you can't use it as "Real" ram

Thanks for the swift reply Raphael
A pity that it is not possible, the phone has a rather low amount of ram for today's standards
I see that you have also owned a G3 albeit another version.
Did you make any changes to improve the phone performance?

I had the "real" g3 with the snapdragon 801 and 3gb of ram so I didn't had to do anything because it was a great phone for the price.
But, before that I had a really bad phone with only 512 mb of ram and I tried everything to make it go faster (overclock (witch make the phone really hot), "ram booster" kind of app (they don't make any noticeable difference), etc...) but I realised that we just can't do that. So, unfortunately, we have to live with it until we change phone.
That being said, you can always disable animation to help the device go faster but that's pretty much it.
Yep done that it helped a bit
I am using "root booster" it makes my device react quicker then normal, i noticed the difference right of the bat
And got rid of some of the bloatware, am currently researching which other ones i can safely remove
