Hey,
since the skype app exists I have the problem that if I'm having a call within Skype an I'm using my headset the proximity sensor is still on.
So if I put my hand over it, and that happens way more often than you think, the screen turns off.
Is there any way to turn of the proximity sensor on our loved S7 edge?
Actually my S7 edge isn't rootet but I'm willing to root it if that would solve my problem.

Hi all,
I've installed TouchLockPro as suggested at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5254295#post5254295
Initial testing seems to prove that it has fixed the problem, well it's a workaround.
It senses (via the G sensor) if the phone is held upright during a call and turns the screen off- no need to rely on the poor proximity sensor.
Please test and let me know how you get on.
There doesn't seem to be any config- just install and it works.
If your proximity sensor does not work then return the device. I have no problems with it at all. Only think I would say is for it to also switch things on/off when phone not in use.
I used to have problems with the proximity sensor but it's been working perfectly since I upgraded to 1.48.
FYI- The proximity sensor does work on my phone. It just proves to be intermittent at sensing- this has been documented by other users.
The main problem is that it doesn't work very well next to hair. So I don't have any problems with the proximity sensor, but my wife (with long hair) does.
proximity sensor works fine for me as long as I don't use the keypad during a call; once i enter anything during a call (like calling card number, extensions etc) the proximity sensor stops working.
I think this bug doesn't show up when using the wired headset, have to confirm this though.
After two weeks testing I found out that the original screen protector with the two holes for the sensor makes the problems!!!
thake the screen protector out or cut it and the proximity sensor will work perfect.

Hi everyone,
Long story short, I got a used Nexus 4 off someone, everything works perfectly except the proximity sensor. During a call the screen blacks out and doesn't come back unless I hard reset the phone to hang up. I figured out it was a problem with the proximity sensor. Upon reading these forums and many other articles on Google about taking off the screen protector (which I don't have) and swapping the rubber "sensor" holder holes, I decided to open the phone up and take a look.
It appears that my phone is missing the rubber piece to hold the proximity and light sensors in place, making the sensor unusable and causing many issues with making calls. I've tried playing around with it using other peoples' suggestions and nothing has worked. I've decided to just find a way to disable the proximity sensor instead during a call, as I'll be quite satisfied with just a simple software fix.
Right now I am using Proximity Screen OFF to keep the screen on, but it drains my battery pretty hard. I was thinking to just flash my phone with a mod that allows me to turn the proximity sensor off during a call.
Any suggestions as to which mod contains this feature?
Thank you.
Hello.
This is my first time posting a thread on XDA. I have a problem with my proximity sensor on my galaxy s7 edge phone. It stays always on and i am worring about my battery life and other things that are conected with it. I have a rooted device. Tired with turning off AOD service but nothing.
With *#0*# ADC value is too high and it changes very fast from 290 to 400. Attach you will find informations. Anyone has the same problem or it is only me?
Hmmm...strange. I'd guess there's some app that's holding it on.
Do you have Skype, Viber or one of those type of apps installed? If so, try uninstalling them or clear cache/data (after backing up).
or try clearing Phone cache/data.
I can not see with eyes it is normal. But good camera can detect infrared rays so this is how i know. I have tested on other device with my camera and proximity is not always on. When u try to make a call it activates and deactivates after ending the call. It does not seem to be normal if it stays active all over the time.
Uninstalled skype. Forced closed viber and nothing. I had using this types of apps on s6 g920f and had no issues with proximity sensor.
Hi guys,
Was wondering if it was possible to disable my proximity sensor? The reason I ask is because since I dropped my phone a couple of weeks ago, it does weird things.
When I try to call someone the proximity sensor registers 8cm (give or take as this is an example) but when I put my face to the phone, it latches on 0cm and never resets to another value. Thus keeping the screen blank.
Same outcome happens when someone calls me.
I'm currently using Lineage OS 14.1 (Android 7.1.1) on the Samsung S5 (SM-G900F klte). I'd rather disable the sensor if it means regaining control of the phone during calls.
Thanks guys!

I've noticed that the proximity sensor is active not only when calling someone regularly, but also when using a bluetooth headset or the speaker. That not enough it's even active when I switch off the screen manually with the power button while calling. When I get near the sensor later it turns on again.
I'm used to take my phone in my pocket when using a headset and I can't do that anymore because at some point it wakes up and my leg or something else ends the call, mutes me etc.
Did somebody else noticed that behaviour and knows a fix for it?
It's fixed in the latest update (34.3.A.0.217)
This thread can be closed.
I have similar problem with latest version 34.4.A.2.118. When I start a phone call screen goes black before i put it on my ear. It's like faulty proximity sensor, but few days ago I was using OMNI and there wasn't any problem.
