Screenshots without the edge panel showing? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Is there a way to take a screen shot without the edge panel also showing up in the screenshot?

Do you mean the whole Edge panel, or just the little tab?

You can make the tab invisible within the edge panel settings.

You can do this by using Google Nows on tap feature (make sure it's enabled in Google now settings). Just hold the home button, press share and it will take a screenshot of that window only. The only downside being that you have to send it immediately, it does not save.

Nice. Didn't know that. Much better than the "hand slide" for a quick share.

I'm trying to do this while in the gallery of pictures. Example: Zoom into a pic and then just screen shot the image leaving the original untouched.

The easiest solution is to just crop the photo. It will save as a separate photo.

I set the transparency to 0% and it's still visible I changed the size to small the only way in the tmobile variant seems to be that you have to turn the edge panel off to do this.

Horizontal Lock Screen Tablet Mode

Any possible solution to get the lockscreen into tablet mode? Kinda annoying unlocking portrait while holding landscape.
I'm rooted running stock Jellybean 4.1.1

Yes
Yes there is.
There's a post somewhere on XDA that explains how to achieve this, or theres a paid app on GP that gives you more control over when/how for rotation.
Search.
In the data folder. There might be a file called local.prop. If there is then add this line if there isn't then create the file and add the line:
launcher.force_enable_rotation=true
Then save and restart. That should give you homescreen rotation and lockscreen rotation.

Got the home screen to rotate but not the lock screen. That would be awesome if we can figure out how to do this. Hate it when it is horizontal and I have to tilt it sideways.

Remove User Account Picture

Hi all,
Under the Quick Settings pull down menu, the first button is the User Account. It shows the user's name and profile picture(if there is one). I've associated a picture with the user profile; but a while later, even after I removed/deleted the picture, the picture still shows up under the Quick Settings pull-down. My question is, is it possible to have the icon revert back to the default android user icon(below)?

Yes I have. In the contacts app, my profile doesn't have a picture anymore. However, the picture still shows up under the Quick Setting menu.
so the picture doesn't show up under Quick Setting menu if you delete yours from the profile?

Not sure then. Mine is from Google + profile pic so if I delete it then it removes the picture in the quick toggles.
You may just need to wipe and start clean.

Camera sound after update to 6.0.1

Hi,
When I was on Lollipop I installed a ask called enforced stream silencer - which make it possible to turn of the camera sound (shutter sound) This app does not work under 6.0.1. Anybody know a solution to turn if the sound when take pictures?
Just mute it in the notification bar and you will also mute the camera shutter sound too.

Open your camera app, click on the settings, select all settings at the upper left of the screen. The bottom left icon, tap it and it will turn off the shutter sound.

It's strange that you have the ability to disable the camera shutter sound on your N910V. As I know for a fact that Samsung has made it that you can't disable the camera shutter sound on their devices to prevent people from taking pictures without other people's permission. As it was considered intrusion of people's personal privacy for people to take their picture.
I hope the enforced stream silencer app will be updated for 6.0.1

Must be lucky. Had it on the note 2 also. Maybe there is a third party camera app that will allow you to turn off the shutter sound

Is Full Screen Possible?

Please be kind and use easy words. I'm a noob!
I would like to ask if it is possible for the S8 to have a full screen all the time? Without the nav bars. I know they disappear with You Tube and some other apps, but can it be done as a standard setting.
I don't mind playing with settings and trying things, as long as I can use simple terms.
Thanks in advance.

This full screen is not the same as the ADB version. That fully resizes the apps. The app version just removes the status bar and nav and leaves a blank black area in most apps.
Yes, the ADB version is the truest form of full screen. Really liking it. My one gripe with on-screen buttons was that they made the actual usable screen space smaller. This way we get to maximize the entire display. Love being able to tweak our phones to our personal likes. Something much easier to do with Android, even non-rooted android, than IOS.
This is awesome but it should have been already included as a feature.

It is with some apps, you have to press the open apps button on the screen and if you can view that app in full screen you press on the green circle in the upper right hand side of the screen.

Display/screen off/asleep with no hardware/physical button that works with biometric?

As title says, do anyone of you know if there is any app or setting to set a software shortcut to put the screen off the same way the power button does?
I don't really like pressing the button all the time, for now i've set the display timer to 15 seconds to shut down itself but coming from the modding world (lineage etc) roms, I got used to have a shortcut like longpressing back button to have screen off instead of using the power button.
I tried nova launcher and some other apps, their shortcuts are working BUT they require the admin unlock (PIN or SIGN only), no fingerprint or eyeballing aviable.
Any clue to help this fella out?

If you change nova lock method from administrator to timeout (screen off, and times out to lock after 5 seconds for unrooted users) or even better if rooted, then you can use double tap to lock with biometrics.
Scroll to bottom of nova settings/advanced/screen lock method option

I use doubleHome, I double tap home buttom a black screen appears for 3 seconds, after the phone is locked with biometric unlock.
Free and works like a charm, from the same athor of bxactions!
Unfortunately using doubleHome you have to leave the current app.
Better: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dynalogix.screenoff.ultra.quick.timeout
There is a shortcut, you can use everywhere, e.g. as gesture.
Im happy to see I'm not the only one who needed this!
Every manufacturer should think about this and include it in the stock Rom tho
Thank anyone for all the ideas!!!
You can do this with any gestures or automation app that runs shell commands like LMT or Tasker, etc.
