Update - Zuk Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I didn't receive the marshmallow update yet. I received my phone yesterday from repair. I had already installed an update that was 290MB I think. I thought that was the marshmallow update, but it wasn't :/
When will I get it?

Non of us get it yet, if you read the thread you would know this update caused more problems than it fixed, I'm really unhappy about the bad support from CM both to fix bugs (wifi, GPS, autorotation..) and to give us the latest Android version.

G2 Gingerbread OTA starts today

I found this on T-Mobile's G2 Support Community:
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1809
"On July 27, T-Mobile G2 devices will begin to receive an Over-The-Air (OTA) update to Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread). The update will roll out to customers in waves over the coming weeks.
The update provides the following enhancements and improvements.
New features:
Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread)
Tell HTC
Google Books added
Notification bar color scheme is changed to black
New battery indicator, phone, and web icons
Color-coded network icon and signal indicator added. Green when connected to Google servers. Grey when not connected.
Pressing the power key while on a call disables the proximity sensor
Fixed or improved issues:
Wi-Fi calling improvements
New SMS and email notification improvements
Improvements to sending MMS from the Gallery
Your phone will show a notification when you have received the update. Alternately, to check if your phone has the update, follow these steps:
From Home screen, press the Menu key.
Tap Settings.
Tap About Phone.
Tap System Updates.
Important: Do NOT call T-Mobile to receive the update before September 1. The timeline for receiving the OTA cannot be expedited. T-Mobile cannot manually push the software to customers who ask to receive it.
Software upgrades at retail stores
Beginning August 5, you will be able to go to a T-Mobile retail store to update your T-Mobile G2, T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide, and T-Mobile myTouch 4G to the most recent software version. This helps if you have not gotten the Over-The-Air (OTA) update or if you cannot perform the USB tethered update.
If the OTA or tethered update fail, here is what to expect at the retail store:
Updating at the store can erase all the data on the device. The SD card will not lose data.
Back up your data, synchronize your contacts to Google or T-Mobile Backup, and write down the names of all the applications you will want to re-install.
The update can take up to 30 minutes to complete.
The update requires that your phone has over 50% battery life at the store.
The rep at the retail store will:
Remove your personal SD card.
Insert a software update SD card.
Wait for the update to download and install on the device.
Remove the software update SD card.
Insert your personal SD card again."
Excited for 2.3 - stock is fantastic. The only issue remains that I need root to run VPN Connections for work. So close! Thanks for posting.
If you get the OTA and are reading this (or have read it), please post back your region and when you got the OTA.
thanks!!
Yay for you stock people! Will give you guys a nice fresh device.

this will be my first android phone getting a OTA update, some questions.
-If my phone is rooted, will I need to root again?
-Will all the system settings revert to default?
thanks
Can anyone confirm whether or not this is the same update that was leaked in May?
I am running Build 2.13.531.8 CL56018.

What other ROMS can someone rooted run that will defeat/prevent download and loss of root?
Are ROMS based on the .5 and .8 leaks safe? Or do we need CM or miui?

The location of the person never mattered, it's completely random based on EMEI or some such.
I am just waiting for someone to post the direct link so I can manually update the G2 my wife inherited from me.
i was about to say the same thing, location DOES NOT matter in the least. I think it's partly first-come, first served based on check-in (*#*#CHECKIN#*#* to force it) and also IMEI based too. But most importantly, I also would like to see the manual update ZIP, as well as the version.
Don't worry about rooting 2.3.3 we've already done that, and it's great that the G2 is seeing a update for those stock users
I want to stay rooted with my GB CM nightly. It is really close to perfection, and now since Netflix is working smooth as butter, there is no reason to change. Since im running the latest nightly, would I see something that I would click to download?

If you aren't on stock you won't get the update. CM strips out the ability to receive otas, would get a lot of bricks if they didn't.

When I clicked restart, I got stujck at the triangle? Had to reset and now I have the old build version still. When I do a system update check, it says I have the latest version, which I don't.
Stock wifi rom with tiamat kernel, rooted.

New UK Updated Firmware

Just received a new OTA firmware update today
GC100XXBMD1
Only a small download <30Mb and the only changes stated are the usual generic "Stability Improvements"
I lost root (unsurprisingly) but it was at least upgradable on a rooted stock firmware.
CHANGES:
I noticed that I am no longer being asked to select the memory card in the camera app on a reboot. This was a major annoyance and thankfully gone.
The Google Play Store has been updated
There is a new Smart Mode "Action Freeze" ... I think.... Can anyone confirm if that was already on there? I can't remember seeing it before.
If I find any other changes, I will update this thread.
Action Freeze is already available since it GC was released with Android 4.1 1
Sent from my EK-GC100 using xda app-developers app
Is Cf-Root working fine on it?
can we expect updates or 4.1.2 will be our last FW?
I would love to see some Galaxy S4 features even if it's just Sound & Shot

Just fyi

Probably Stagefright fix
Yep, just the patch. Also you can go back to an older version of Android. I thought this patch messed up my SD card and Odin'd back without a problem. Turns out my SD card was just bad.

Can I upgrade this security patch running a non touchwiz ROM on my note 4?
I posted this test after I updated to this build, I hope another update is on the way soon if this is what we're getting after their latest update.
Haven't gotten anything yet.. I will let it OTA itself

You will usually get less than normal battery life after an update. This is normal for Android.
What is the best course of updating if I'm rooted and on a custom TW rom?
Unconfirmed, not exactly why or how but my gf's N4 has been suffering from poor signal and loss. This update has seemingly corrected those issues. I haven't done it on mine but I'm optimistic because I've been having similar issues. They just say "bug fixes" so not sure exactly what that is. Obviously the Stagefright is one of those but there may also be tweaks and corrections here and there. I'd be curious to know if anyone else has been having those issues and whether or not this update fixes them.
Also confirming its not 5.1.1
I used a different app to test and it said I was not vulnerable.

You can also boot up into recovery and wipe cash partition which will sometimes help, this is what I did when updating from 4.4 to 5.0 it helped.
I did try a few other apps to test stagefright and one said no and two said it was vulnerable, the best process to update which has never failed me is Odin to full stock, root it flash recovery and flash what you want from there, I've tried every way there is to sneak an update but that's the sure fire way to make sure everything is in order and gives the best outcome.

Running N beta

Sorry for my ignorance but I can't find information any where am currently on Android beta N when they official os is dropped does that mean I will get it and unroll from beta or do I need to unroll and when am rolled back then manually flash the update.
