I have searched around and have found its somewhat of a "known issue" that on AOSP ROMs you have to use either third party sms/mms app or a modified version to prevent the text notifications from //9016. This I'm fine with but I'm a REALLY big fan of the VVM for checking voicemail instead of calling and listening that way.
Is there any way to get VVM working on an AOSP ROM? I'm currently on Bubs AOSP Magic Original 0.4.1 and digging it, the VVM app is there and a past voicemail is also there but i'm not getting anything new. I just feel like there must be SOME way to accomplish it and still keep the AOSP goodness.
devs must know what component is not in AOSP that is in Samsung stock which causes this, i'd love a patch or something for it. thanks all
I take it you didn't read the hole thread. I posted a fix someone ago. Try searching harder. I'm sick and tired of repeating my self 2-3 times a week in that thread alone and now you started a new one

Easiest way to do this is to go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797239
Under Add-ons and patches download "Stock MMS/SMS", and apply the zip in recovery. I'm currently using Bub's AOSP Magic ROM and this worked for me. However, I have read that this may change your calendar from the AOSP calendar to stock. Hope that helps.

thanks, i'm already using handcent to block the texts. i was going to respond to lord douchicus up above there but thought not to. i was using Bubs 0.2 earlier and had this issue, clearing data from the VVM app seemed to work but only temporarily. and he didnt actually answer me in that thread, i read it over. so i tried it again and it seems like its working now, we'll see though, thanks for the help.
is this solution supposed to fix the VVM by receiving the text messages? or is it just to block the texts, thanks
Why should I waste my time posting the fix that had been posted x amount if times when you didn't spend no time looking for the awnser.

Hey Guys,
I am not the person who ports the Roms, that's @chrisc93 & @CPA Poke, I just thought it would be nice to have an actual Q&A. So what I'm planning on doing is I'm going to go through the S4 beanstalk forum, and try to move all the commonly asked questions with answers over here. I'll try to keep the OP updated daily, this is also to try to keep the beanstalk Dev forum clean.
A few things:
1 Tell if you have done a clean flash or not
(A clean flash is wiping your phone's data completely)
2 Which Beanstalk version you are on
(4.3, 4.4, 4.4.100, 4.4.200, etc.)
3 What gapps package have you flashed
- Who made it if not in the Beanstalk OP
4 What kernel have you flashed
5 Which runtime you are using: Dalvik or ART
6 What mods are you using: crossbreeder, xposed, etc.
7 If your problem is GUI related, if you have dark stalk on or not.
Q: The Samsung screen on my device isn't changing to beanstalk. IM BOOTLOOPING HELP!
A: For some unknown reason, sometimes it gets stuck in a bootloop, DON'T WORRY, just turn off your phone and turn it back on, it may take a few times, but it will boot, if it doesn't boot after quite a few you may have gotten a bad download, still, DONT WORRY, you can still get into recovery mode by holding down the volume up & home buttons while your device is being turned on.
Q: I'm on the runtime ART, and I keep getting process.gapps has quit unexpectedly. What am I doing wrong/ why is this happening?
A: The runtime ART is quite new and Google is slowly but surely working out the kinks, its not perfect yet, so you may have some troubles with it, if you get a lot of these errors, I suggest going back to the Dalvik runtime for the time being.
- I have also read that having multiple Google accounts can cause this. If someone would confirm this for me, that would be great.
Q: Can I dirty flash?
A: if you want to be laughed at by all your friends... No but seriously, don't dirty flash when installing your operating system because there are a plethora of problems that can go on if you dirty flash, if you have problems and you dirty flashed, the first thing someone is going to tell you is that you need to go clean flash your phone and then tell you to come back if you still have the problem. So personally, I wouldn't take the chance.
Q: People who are helping me are asking for a "logcat"... Uhhh?
A: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726238
Tutorial on how to logcat (not a dance)

Under Settings>Beanstalk options>Build.prop Mods> proximity sensor delay. I personally have not tested any of the values as I haven't needed too, but play around with them and figure out which one works best!
I'm running the latest 4.4.2 with the 12/15 PA Gapps, and the latest KT kernel. This was a clean flash from the latest TWRP.

Didn't work unfortunately. I'm not sure if this is a kernel issue or a ROM issue.

Is anyone else having this issue? I'm not having any problems with mine, I just tested that specifically. Are you running any other mods or anything? Have you tried a different kernel?
Anybody remember when in the app drawer you could hide apps? Not disable or uninstall them, just hide them. I'm using the launcher "launcher" anybody know?
Compass not working
Hi all,
On the latest build, clean flash, from most excellent coder CPA Poke, clean install, KT Kernel from the 21st, compass is not working
Works on Google Edition and TW ROMs, just not on AOKP. Anyone experiencing this? I use GPS Status app to verify.
Thanks!

Hi StingDude!
I am using GPS Status (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&hl=es_419 - The radar/compass does not move), Car Locator (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.edwardkim.android.carlocatorfull&hl=es_419 - Does not even launch, complains there is no compass on the phone), and myriad compass, maps and bubble level apps.
I have tried with a clean, full wipe, stock kernel, only these apps installed, still does not work... real bummer as I had to go back to jerky TW 4.3 where everything works...
Any help to get this working on BeanStalk would seriously rock. And thanks, man.

I hadn't checked my compass until I read your post but it appears I have the same problem (compass locked on North with GPS Status). My actual GPS seems to work fine.
I'm using Poke's 4.4.205 build (Dec 31) with Jan 3rd KT Kernel.
Am I missing something or are there three options no longer available in the newest Beanstalk? I'm coming from the last JB to KK, in the OP.
1 - Long press hold the back button to kill app
2 - Breathing missed text message and phone call icons option to turn on and off
3 - No custom quick settings tile

I only know what I've read, but long back press and custom qs tiles are missing, I'll check the newest update for breathing.
Edit: Post below lol
None of those are available in 4.4 Beanstalk yet. Personally, I prefer holding back to switch to last app over back to kill but either way there's no custom back button yet...
I've been getting a strange "SIM has been removed, please reboot" error where the phone would just all of the sudden lose contact with the SIM on the latest 4.4.2 builds. Anyone else experience that?

only thing i could think of would be first do a clean flash and then if you still have a problem, then try redownloading. do you have a custom kernel?
I notice the newest build includes a new Launcher option called Launcher3, is this a Trebuchet style baked in launcher based on the Google Experience Launcher? If so I look forward to it being developed further, especially if it's possible to use it in conjunction with Google Now in the future.
I have a D800 and have been running CloudyG3 for a while and also have used Textra for quite a while with no issues. I decided to go back to AOSP and initially went to EuphoriaOS but one issue I had (other than freezing up during calls) was that I had visual notifications from Textra but no sound. I uninstalled Textra, reinstalled, same issue. So I wrote their support and their reponse after a few emails back and forth is that it must be a ROM or phone issue. I then went to the other compilation of Euphoria: same issue. Currently on BlissPop: same issue. Both times I did clean flashes and did not restore Textra but reinstalled it. Any ideas on what else I can do to try and fix this? The stock messaging app is alright, but missing alot of the Textra features.

It's funny how pre-LL it seemed liked devs stayed away from CM more than lately. I'll have to take a whack at some others I just can't explain why Textra does that. Haven't tried other messaging apps bc frankly I haven't found one that works as well.
To be honest there are very few original roms out now. You have cm, slim and a few based off of Aosp. The reason St are simple compile wizards that don't do anything other then sync and cherry pick.

Thats pretty much what they are. That is why I make sure any rom I use is based on AOSP and not CM.
I know it's a basic function, but I've had it on every Android I've had in the last 5 years. Without xposed my phone feels so basic and I have to turn on the screen to change track.
Is there any ROM for our phone with this function built in? I don't care about any other features so anything else is a bonus. I couldn't see it in any of the features for the ROMs available
Appreciate any help.
I believe resurrection remix has it. Or at least I had it on my OPO.
I miss that function aswell. And not to mention pie controls and ad block. Might aswell start flashing custom ROMs
Carbon rom have it, im currently using it
thanks for your replies guys. I'll check them out
You could also do this with a MacroDroid macro or a tasker scene, no need for a custom rom if you're happy otherwise

I don't understand why no one else cares about the alert slider mod anymore. As of now, the slider is basically useless to me because I have to be reachable 24/7, so silent mode is unusable. Tying Dnd to the alert slider was an issue in the past because Dnd can be scheduled in software. But those of us that work completely different hours all the time would much rather have the simple hardware switch, and no software timers at all!
I can almost understand this not being possible without root, but with root, ANYTHING should be possible. As I noted here, functionality can be added to the switch, but no amount of Googling and probing around on my own could find a way to disable the built in functionality, but there HAS to be a way. I heard some custom ROMs have it, but not sure which ones. Maybe OnePlus devs tied it directly into the code for the ringer control in A10?
Anyone interested in developing this, even for money?
Anyone have any ideas?
Or know which custom roms have this

If you use Tasker, there are some Tasker scripts out there, and you can modify it to do what you want.

I haven't tried any a10 ROMs but I recall every pie rom I used having this feature. I would be shocked if it were different with 10. Try a couple and see what you like not terribly time consuming and can always revert to a backup of stock exactly how your phone is currently set up if you don't find what you want. Good luck

Yes, I mentioned that in the opening post, but as far as I know, you can't "unlink" the slider functionality from ringer control, making the Tasker integration almost useless. But thanks.

Thanks. Good to hear it's well supported. I don't understand why it's so easy for custom ROMs to have this feature, yet so hard to back-port the feature to stock OOS.
Seems overboard to change ROMs for one thing, doesn't it?

I recall in the early days of this device that it was a common mod, I just don't think anyone kept up with the constant oos updates. Don't quote me on that though I could be mistaken.
