No Notification Sound w/ Textra (multiple ROM's) - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a D800 and have been running CloudyG3 for a while and also have used Textra for quite a while with no issues. I decided to go back to AOSP and initially went to EuphoriaOS but one issue I had (other than freezing up during calls) was that I had visual notifications from Textra but no sound. I uninstalled Textra, reinstalled, same issue. So I wrote their support and their reponse after a few emails back and forth is that it must be a ROM or phone issue. I then went to the other compilation of Euphoria: same issue. Currently on BlissPop: same issue. Both times I did clean flashes and did not restore Textra but reinstalled it. Any ideas on what else I can do to try and fix this? The stock messaging app is alright, but missing alot of the Textra features.

Try a rom not based on CM. CM based roms are terrible.

It's funny how pre-LL it seemed liked devs stayed away from CM more than lately. I'll have to take a whack at some others I just can't explain why Textra does that. Haven't tried other messaging apps bc frankly I haven't found one that works as well.

To be honest there are very few original roms out now. You have cm, slim and a few based off of Aosp. The reason St are simple compile wizards that don't do anything other then sync and cherry pick.

Makes me think of script kiddies from the security/hacker side. But I can't say anything or complain, I'm a user of said ROMs who tries to fix the problems he makes or finds

Thats pretty much what they are. That is why I make sure any rom I use is based on AOSP and not CM.

is there an SMS timestamp fix yet

With my stock rogers rom, as well as myHero ROM's, my sms messages have a timestamp dated a few hours before when they should. I've noticed that I'm not the only one with this problem. A search of the forums doesn't really show anything recent.
I noticed that one of the other ROM's (cyanogen possibly) had this issue corrected. Is there a solution to the SMS timestamp issue? Would I be able to download an updated sms messaging apk and push it to my phone to overwrite the buggy one?
I am relying on chomp sms for now, but that is a workaround, and not really a solution to the timestamp problem.
Andy
I dont have issue with stock rom.. just when i use hero rom/sense UI.. the sense ui one is 4 hours behind.. if you have the problem with stock rogers then you must be west of EST and they had a fix for that one. As far as hero roms no fix yet just work arounds such as chomp or changing your timezone setting to +0 GMT but i hear that screws up calender a bit..
HTC/Rogers posted a ROM update back in the summer:
http://www.htc.com/ca/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=270&act=sd&cat=all
It wipes your phone, but it does resolve the SMS timestamp issue. I'm currently using the HoFo ROM though, and the fix isn't incorporated with it.
if your using an aftermarket rom like MyHero etc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572175
this should fix it for you
There is an app in the market called SMSfixtimes. I used to use it and it worked quite well, but it doesn't seem to work with the current MyHero rom I am using. Worked well on the stock rogers one though.
SMSFixtTimes works with HoFO rom.

Is there an update that works with the ROM from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZh2y_cpGpw ? I hate having to use the time zone hack, and SMSFixTimes isn't working for whatever reason...

Try killing the "Messages" (and any other SMS) app with TasKiller. Then configure SMSTimeFix.
Then test it.
Also are you running HoFo Sense ROM? Because that video is WAYYYYYY OLD.

Fresh rom with optimization text problem

i dont know what is up, but i love this rom. only issue so far that i am having is that when i go to message settings it force closes everytime. i was trying to set my notification tone. it plays the one i have in setting in the phone and the text message one. sound funny.
There may be a more elegant fix BUT if you just want it to start working why don't you do a Nandroid restore to your last working setup and then reflash .6? i only offer this advise because nobody else seems to be having any issues with text on .6 including me.

I'm not sure what you mean by "with optimization". But I can't duplicate your issue.
its the zip on i think the first page that optimizes apps. it really inproves the speed. dont know if it did it before.. may do a restore just dont want to have to set my stuff up agian. lol
ok it wasnt doing it after a fresh install so and then all of a sudden it did. im going to try the newer version of the optimization.. really confused now. its either that or the green theme im using.
The optimizations do not effect the text messages, in fact, they do not effect anything, all there is to them is optimized images and zip alignment for faster file access. I am running Fresh 0.6 with my optimizations and experiencing none of those issues
I have the same setup (Fresh Rom w/ Optimzation).
My text problem is a little different though.
I use handcent SMS, and I received a text message today that previewed in the quick reply box, which I closed. Then, when I went to the handcent application, that text message is missing.
Is anyone else experiencing missing incoming text messages w/ Handcent?
ok well im having a issue with phone not vibrating as well and went back to stock so i will have to see. it may be a app i have added, but i have like a 100 so i dont know which one yet.
i'm running Fresh 0.6 and the optimizations from 11/24 and i'm sorry to say gents that I'm not having either of those problems.
everything is running smooth on my end (went from MoDaCo to Fresh 0.2 to Fresh 0.4 and now Fresh 0.6)... only problem I ever had was the wifitether stopped working on 0.2, but has since been fixed.
might be worth reflashing fresh..

[Q] Any way to get Sprint VVM to work on AOSP ROMs?

I have searched around and have found its somewhat of a "known issue" that on AOSP ROMs you have to use either third party sms/mms app or a modified version to prevent the text notifications from //9016. This I'm fine with but I'm a REALLY big fan of the VVM for checking voicemail instead of calling and listening that way.
Is there any way to get VVM working on an AOSP ROM? I'm currently on Bubs AOSP Magic Original 0.4.1 and digging it, the VVM app is there and a past voicemail is also there but i'm not getting anything new. I just feel like there must be SOME way to accomplish it and still keep the AOSP goodness.
devs must know what component is not in AOSP that is in Samsung stock which causes this, i'd love a patch or something for it. thanks all
I take it you didn't read the hole thread. I posted a fix someone ago. Try searching harder. I'm sick and tired of repeating my self 2-3 times a week in that thread alone and now you started a new one

Easiest way to do this is to go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797239
Under Add-ons and patches download "Stock MMS/SMS", and apply the zip in recovery. I'm currently using Bub's AOSP Magic ROM and this worked for me. However, I have read that this may change your calendar from the AOSP calendar to stock. Hope that helps.

thanks, i'm already using handcent to block the texts. i was going to respond to lord douchicus up above there but thought not to. i was using Bubs 0.2 earlier and had this issue, clearing data from the VVM app seemed to work but only temporarily. and he didnt actually answer me in that thread, i read it over. so i tried it again and it seems like its working now, we'll see though, thanks for the help.
is this solution supposed to fix the VVM by receiving the text messages? or is it just to block the texts, thanks
Why should I waste my time posting the fix that had been posted x amount if times when you didn't spend no time looking for the awnser.

You can move to aosp rom
AFAIK TW is too deep in the system, I think it is not possible without breaking something. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Yes i it is deep, therefore I didn't delete Samsung's dialer...etc. I am actually on aosp now. But sometimes I need s-pen, gear menager...

Yes I will also to move aosp. But as long as I have random reboot, I can't move. The most note 3 user have random reboot problems with aosp.

I think most of those random reboot issues are gone. I am on Slim rom, Lean kernel, and did not have any issues for weeks. It all depends if you are using 'nightlies', which might be unstable, or official releases. Every rom has official 'stable' release once in a while. Stick to that and you will not have any issues. If you install slim rom, go with weekly 7.9, not the latest 8.0 (new release, although stable, you should probably wait for 8.1 or 8.2). If you go with cyanogen, install M10 release. On top of that you might want to use stable kernel, such as lean kernel, for additional speed and battery life.

I will try it. Actually maybe I have tried it before. I guess reboot problems causes by bluetooth. It happens when I connect it to my car. Not always but often.
Btw, i have also a problem that exists in every aosp/cm rom. You know when you tap and hold an app from app drewer you have two options on the top of screen. One is app info and the other is uninstall. After a few reboots the options disapper. You can still move the icon to the top and choose one of options even these options are unvisiable.
Any help?
I don't use bluetooth, so I can not tell. As for the icon problem, never seen that before, but it is definitely related to the launcher. Which one were you using, stock, trebuchet, or nova? Slim comes with nova and doesn't have such issues.

Rom with stock ticker?

Does anyone know of a rom with the old stock sticker implemented? I looked through a bunch, but the ones I've tried that I thought night have it based on features didn't actually have it. There was a ROM on my nexus 5 that used to do it (cataclysm), but it never had it on the 6p, and it's been several months trying to adjust and I still hate the new method. The xposed app never worked right, and there's an app that tries to restore it similarly, but it's not great. Thanks for any help.
Can you please be more specific? What do you mean by ticker?

I'm unaware of any ROM that would use outdated code/features, as they're usually all based off the latest offering from Google.
