Adoptable Storage & Micro SD Cards - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm going to try one of the AOSP Marshmallow roms and I'm quite eager to try out the Adoptable Storage as I'm sick to death of running out of storage space. The old moving apps to SD is limited.
I was wondering what is the fastest Micro SD read/write speeds supported by the S5? I don't want to waste money on the fastest available card if my phone can't make use of the extra speed.
For those who have already tried Adoptable Storage, what are your impressions?

[Q] What is USB storage? How is internal memory compared with SanDisk Extreme Pro?

Hi, when I long press the home button and choose Task manager->Storage, I see System storage (out of 1.97GB), USB storage (out of 11.07GB) and SD card (out of 14.83GB). The SD card is probably my sandisk 16GB sd card. What about USB storage? I suppose the System storage is the internal memory. Also, from an end user point of view, is the new SanDisk Extreme Pro as fast as the internal memory? Is it worth to buy it? Thanks.
The phone is manufactured with 16 GB of flash on it.
2 GB for the ROM
2 GB for apps
The rest (11.07 GB) as general storage
Then it has a MicroSD slot where you can add more storage.
The speed of the internal storage should be good, but I don't know how it is compared to a Sandisk extreme pro card.
I asked SanDisk. They said that they do not know if the Extreme Pro is compatible with the Galaxy Note. They told me to ask Samsung. Of course, Samsung is going to point back to SanDisk.

[Q] Does Samsung treat internal storage like an SD card and the MicroSD like a second

I'm just trying to get a feel for how Samsung treats storage on their devices.
Do they consider the internal storage as both internal and SD Card storage on the device? So that \sdcard\ points to internal storage? Which would treat any inserted MicroSD like secondary storage that some programs might not use?
Or do they consider internal storage as only internal and \sdcard\ would only point to an inserted MicroSD?

They have internal SD (built in storage) and external SD.
External SD is not touched unless you indicate for it to be used specifically.
I like that Samsung continues to offer devices with a removable battery and MicroSD. This is a major factor for me.
I just wish the MicroSD could somehow be integrated with their internal storage. Since many apps may not be able to see the MicroSD. The apps would consider the internal storage to be SD space.

thats not a good idea, what if you had to remove the external sd card?

I'm using Data2SD with my Asus Transformer Infinity right now to have a 64GB data space (via SD card) and the internal 32GB as extra storage. I have not had to remove the card yet . And really even Data2Sd won't let me use the internal space on the device installing programs, just extra storage. But still its a good step.
Removing the card is not a concern, since I basically don't. If the card goes bad, rebuild things with a new card.
It would be great if the SGS4 gets a MOD like Data2SD. Then anyone who buys a 16GB version could get a 64GB MicroSD and turn it into a 64GB SGS4 . Same way we've turned our 32GB Asus Infinities into 64GB models, and our storage is even faster than the stock Asus internal storage  .
Oh, it's a good idea, it's soooo good .
I have a couple questions too if someone can please help:
1) What happens when you mount the device via USB. Can you mount either storage (internal or external sd)?
2) Can you easily place game files like GTA Vice City, music files, or Titanium/nandroid backups on the external?
Thanks!

1) they show up as separate drives
2) yes to. Everything except game files as the game would think you don't have the files and try to redownload them

[Q] Best Solution for Using Micro SD Card

My final decision point of the S4 over the HTC was the availability of a micro SD card which now I realize is basically unusable.
My thoughts were to move programs and media files to the micro SD to free considerable room in the internal memory.
Of course it is somewhere between hard and can't do that.
It my understanding the new upgrade makes it even tougher.
Are there custom ROMS or other solutions that solve this problem?

Adopted Storage Won't Read

Hi,
So I used my microSD as an adopted storage in my phone and it was working fine for a while. As you all know adopted storage makes the microsd card one with the phone internal storage and encrypts it. Well one day it stopped reading the microsd card. YET, the card is still recognized in a computer (albeit can't access data cause of adopted encryption) and the phone will read another microSD card. So I don't know what the problem is. What I need tho is to get my data off this microSD card that won't read in the phone tho. Thanks!
I've had the same issue, I just had so many problems with it that I just reformatted as Portable storage.
But when you connect to the computer with adopted storage it should just show one device as your SD Card, and that includes all the devices on device storage as well as the card's storage but combined.
This just happened to me.
Using a 64gb pny and it's listing as a lexar. Day after I converted to adoptable storage it said it isn't inserted.
Now no matter how many time I eject and reboot it won't read it.

Storage Optimization

Hello guys, may I know what is the best way to optimize the storage on a s7 edge? I just received my 256gb Evo Select Micro SD card from amazon and was wondering what is the best way to fully utilize it? I read a few articles online that suggested formatting the card as adoptable storage but would love to listen to you guys' input on this.
My phone is rooted btw.
