Prepaid Card status checking (USSD codes)

I'm about finishing a plugin for Today Screen and Home Screen, where the latest status of prepaid SIM Card (account) is displayed.
As you know, to get this status, you have to send a special code. Mostly, it is *101# and a green phone button. In reply, cellular network responses with a special message. As I could check that replies in a few networks, messages depend from the cellular network. And the language too. Because of that, my plugin just displays a whole message without changes.
My question is: how that reply messages look like in various networks? Could you please post here message you get?
I want to get answer, what is maximum length of such messages, to save the space of screen. Or maybe to use its content and reformat the display style finally (what's - I'm afraid - impossible due to many languages used). Correct me.
If you use prepaid card, please send *101# code (or maybe in some other networks it is different code?), and give the answer you got from cellular network in reply.

but there is a catch... if i have extra options(like bonus free minutes) when i dial the check credit number(*133#) i also receive a separate sms(from a different number(333) )showing me the free minutes left...
i also have a small question... do you know a good USSD program that is compatible with mio?

I use another prog - dciBalance - and get a relult ot Today like:

where xx$ - balance, (-0,5$) changes by per day, and time\date of cheching

is dciBalance also available in english?

no dciBalance available only on Russian....
But it is not very hard to understand "how to"

I don't know the above other program with similar funtions, and I even did not tried it.
That's why my concept is stay as: to leave an original reply message in original language. This will run independently from particular country or cellular network. Certainly, I added options to change the default code *101# to whatever some user will need in some localization or situation.
Have anybody heard, that any network charges for USSD questions?
Currently, my program checks the status: on every wake up, on every midnite, and if user will check the option: on every hour. I can add more options like: after every phone call finished, or after every message sent. But... it consumes battery. I'm already under deeper tests how it works relative to battery reasonably discharging.
User can force the checking any time manually, by selecting this plugin and press Action or Enter button.

Ok. Here it is a Beta Version. It will expire on the end of year.
This is a version for PPC only (incl. VGA), Smartphone HomeScreen plugin is upcoming... Please, users of Smartphones: give your comments what you see after *101# code and how it is displayed, or similar...
After installation:
- in PPC please check, if it is marked on system Today items list
- in SP please select one of new Home SCreen style with "prepaid..." in name
or build your own Home Screen, this plugin you get with:

Changes:

- added "red alert", when your value is below specified limit (background becomes red and text white, do you want sounds?)
- added text "awaiting notification" while the request is running...
- added text "unresponsived" while network did not replied correctly
- reply message length limited do 200 characters
Some possible problems:
- in some devices I observe that after checking the status the phone line is not active till I use default Phone dialog next time. Not sure about it.
- in some devices I still cannot destroy the default notification icon of USSD reply, it is generated after every checking and collect together in status bar. If you use automatically checking, it will become a huge number of icons.
If you uncheck all available options for automatically requesting the status, you can always force it manually by pressing Action or tap the screen on this Today Item.

i tested it for a short while and here are first impressions.
Looks amaising, with a minor bug check the pic.
is it normal to show a red background?
A small sugestion....(from my little programing skills...) i believe it is possible to make the program search the ussd for the first set of numbers and display it, so that it will only show the credit. don't you think this will be a nice improvement?

I'm not sure about the concept of "first digit" because I don't know if this rule works in all languages and all network codes. I use this idea to define/determine "red alert" and maybe this is wrong.

there is also a small bug with the settings window... if you open the settings and pop up the keyboard the whole settings moves up, out of the window(first pic)

on Tele2 Sweden its *111#
gives you:

that is Prisplan = what sort of card you have
F n giltigt = expires day

I just updated the .cab file, small bug with "red alert" fixed.
If someone will get problem with red background and alert, please set 0 value for its limits. In this case it will not run.
To correctly upload the new version:
- uncheck this item from the list
- remove from default Remove Programs
- make a soft-reset
- re-install the new one
Strange with the Settings dialog. It's not in all my devices already.
Certainly, "last reported..." displays Today's time, and the date if it was not today.

Extend the USSD code
Is it possible to set the program for a longer USSD code?.
Meteor IE is using *#100# for their credit balance USSD code. I have tried inputing the code but it kept cutting of the last #.

hmm... after rechecking the settings tab, it seems that sometimes when i open settings the top bar vanishes and the whole settings prog moves up and after a couple of seconds the top bar reapears... that's what happens in the above pic....
unfortunetly i can't test the version very much because, as i told you, at every check i also receive a second sms, showing me the remaining free minutes and it is very annoing to delete them from my sms inbox...
btw, will the next version have the ussd send message balloon hidden?

Both PPC and SP versions are now.
I just updated installation files, PPC and SP versions are available from now.
Several fixes included, also about automaticaly updating.
I'm not sure 100% about SP version, because such devices are very sensive for background proccess while the screen is going black (suspend, not like in PPC turns off). Next days will give answers if I thought correctly.

i think u find u can download it NOW. i already have.
there are a few neat changes. at the moment i cant connect to the facebook using the widget over data, it seems to only work over wifi.
there is a 3d sms & email app but its in the options menu and does nit work if u press on the standard sms widget (takes u to normal wm sms/email screen). and dont see an option to change this but as its just been released they may bring out a update build with the bugs fixed and maybe the option added.
u can choose to have 1,3 or 5 screens in lifestyle and professional mode, u can also choose to only have pro or lifestyle.
there is a reflections on the carousal mode and it moves by the movement sensor but both of these wont work on the x1 as gpu acceleration is disabled by the shell on x1 and it does not have the accelerometer to move the carousel.

yes, i have downloaded to, and its good job done. Like that you can now edit professional layout way you want. And nice touch with the picture frame that starts slide show. 3D message not user friendly the way i hoped...

Will try it for sure, but I have never been a fan of it. It feels like someone else is telling me how to set up my homescreen. Same as the PointUI.

It is possible to get to the 3D viewed Mails and texts through those widgets. If you create a new widget "Text" or "Mail" stay with your finger on it till the soft vibration. Now you can select "Standard action" (may be different in english version) and then select 3D View. Does that work for you?

I like it. Not so much I can use, but still much better.
They updated weather widget.
Carousel is much faster...but I wld lyk the new carousel :.(
And widgets look different (I actually like the old connection widget better)...
all in all good, but still things I would like to see. What is nice as well is...you have a widget called "Picture/Photo frame". That makes your layout even better!

dont not work on mine, i do this to get the 3d viewer =
to get the 3d sms/email widget. go to add widget-add shortcut-messaging-3d message viewer.
i have heard from the spb forum there is a prob on some handsets that when u reply it does not add the contact number on the text. there are a few bugs so i expect a update (3.5.1) in the next week or so to fix some of the more serious bugs.

If you use the single wdigets (not the 3in1 thingy you know from earlier versions) you can change the standard action. just select "edit layout" (i'm not 100% sure about the terminology used to name the icons since i'm on the german version) in the bottom right menu and click and hold the widgets. a special "widget menu" will show up, that has a "standard action"-button to change whether you want to use the 3D version rather than just open the messaging app.

its possible to get 3D message on the way in the post above, but its not user friendly. For example there is no NEW massage option, im using classic view,until they fix it... but,this shell is best that i have use...

Best WM Shell so far...
There are a few thinks I would like to suggest:
- New widget download service
- RSS support (widget or something)
- 3D messaging support with full HTML included
- Facebook, Twitter news (like sms or e-mail icons)...

Is it just on my phone or is the 3D message flipping very slow?
Not very..but you know, not fluid. It annoys me. Use the standard action until it's faster.

two little apps: automatic rotation & wifi/display stay active - update 28/12

The Mega is my first smartphone, and thanks to xda I found lots of usefull info and apps to customize it just like i want
I think now it's time to share some apps I did mostly for my own use, but maybe usefull for some other people.
Well, here are two simple applications:
RotateMon
- The first, "rotatemon" (stupid name I know... ) is designed to run invisible in background and simply rotate the screen to landscape if one the following apps are launched: sms /mms ; opera mobile 10 and notes (notes.exe)
When you exit the app, the screen is restored to previous orientation. (meaning if you already are in landscape, you will stay in landscape)
I did this app because i couldn't found something doing this the way i want. I know there are mortscript scripts to do this, but not exactly like this. (and there's a problem with tmail.exe with this method, because mortscripts checks if a windows exist, but sometimes tmail.exe runs in background with the same window title "SMS / MMS" as the active window, so we must check if it is really active or in background...)
I know it's possible too to assign a long key press to the action "rotate sceeen", but I was tired of long pressing this key everytime i launched opera or the sms program...
Well just try it if you want, and let me know what you think about it, it's very usefull for me, maybe for you too
You can launch it at startup like I did (for example with sktools or something equivalent).
Please understand that I did it for myself, so it's "customized" for me (the apps that are monitored to trigger the rotation). If it is usefull for someone else I'll be happy to provide a more "user friendly" version (with the ability to configure what apps are monitored for example). Don't hesitate to ask
StayAlive -update 28/12/2010: now with a nice interface, install cab, more user friendly -
Another very simple program, designed to keep wifi "alive" even when the device is in sleep mode. It's a simple switch: ON/OFF, based on the registry key Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms\HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended , you can switch the "StayAlive state" when wifi is on or off, doesn't matter, and the state is keep after a soft reset.
This tool can the display alive too, it provides a simple switch On/OFF to keep the display alive (doesn't prevent locking, well sometimes it locks and sometimes not, don't really know why..., but the screen stay on). Please note that the screen will not stay on at full backlight level, it will stay on at the "lower" backlight level (to prevent too much power drain...)

You just have to delete the program folder. If it's running, kill it with a taskmanager before of course (or soft reset). If you put it in your startup, remove it before, then kill the process or soft reset, then delete the folder.
No modifications are made to the system

Hi seb3773 I like you rotatemon very much. It is what I need, but since I have used Swype I had to turn it off. When the screen rotate my swype keyboard don't rescale well and the screen is cut out on te right side.
I would be grateful if you could disable sms rotation in your program?
or maybe some "user friendly" version above-mentioned?

What is it?
Yota Toolbelt is my stab at developing something useful for the Yotaphone 2. It's a functional widget for the back screen, combined with a simple front screen widget. It has been tested on the latest Lollipop firmware (1.44).
What it does?
- The front screen widget allows you to toggle mirroring mode with a single click.
- The back screen widget allows you to toggle mirroring, wifi, Bluetooth, wifi tethering, ringer mode and YotaEnergy. Additionally you can place shortcuts to URLs to open your favorite websites quickly.
- The new "Contact list" action allows you to browse your contact list, make calls and send SMS's from it.

Installation instructions
I'm not going to bother putting this on Google Play because of the extra work with little benefit, so you have to install the apk manually. Here's how:
1. Check "allow installation of apps from unkown sources" from Settings - Security so that you can install the file.
2. Download the apk file and put it on your phone, or download it to your phone directly.
3. Open the apk file with some file manager and install it.
After this you can add the front screen widget like you would add any widget, by long pressing your home screen, selecting widgets, and then dragging the "Yota Toolbelt" on your home screen.
The back screen widget can be added from Yotahub.

Known issues
- This Widget requires Lollipop to work. No backwards compatibility.
- The battery widget doesn't have push effect. Also, toggling YotaEnergy on takes surprisingly long time. There's nothing I can do about that.

FAQ
The graphics.. They look.. ehrm..
- Awesome, right!? I'm a programmer, not an artist. If someone wants to create new graphics for the widget, I am very willing to change them. Each button should be the same size, at least 140x140px.
What are all these permissions?
- Bluetooth/Wifi/Network permissions are required for toggling wifi and Bluetooth directly without the system's dialogs.
- The vibration permission allows the buttons to vibrate on click.
- The READ_CONTACTS permission is for the new contact list portion, allowing it to list your contacts.
- The PHONE_CALL permission is for making a call using the front screen's dialer.
- The READ_PHONE_STATE is used for making the "lock EPD on dial" function work

Suggest features
I am open to suggestions for functions to add. Functions I've considered:
Flashlight - this one's doable, but it seems a little pointless. How are you going to turn the flashlight on in the dark when there's no backlight on the EPD?
Volume/Vibrate/Silent toggle - Probably doable, but requires some work so that it's easy to use.
Rotation lock - Not sure about this, but pointless anyway. The rear screen doesn't support horizontal view in the first place, unless you're mirroring, and then you might as well use widgets on your front screen.
Airplane mode - This one requires root access, and is quite hacky to implement.
NFC toggle - Cannot be done without root.
GPS toggle - Cannot be done without root.
Any ideas?

Would you be able to add Shortcuts? That would be very useful and its a shame the stock app does not allow this.

I'll look into your suggestions. I think the hotspot function required root access, and that is not very user friendly.
About the shortcuts - Isn't the stock Apps Launcher widget exactly what you're looking for?

the stock app allows links to apps only. Shortcuts are a subset of apps that can be added to the desktop. Eg in Google Maps you can create a shortcut on your homescreen that starts directions to a pre set destination. Or eg Chrome allows shortcuts to websites to be placed on the homescreen.

Ah, I see. I've never used these before.
It is possible yes, but the biggest issue here is how you create and associate them to the widget. By default the shortcuts are created by the applications, like Chrome and Google Maps, and those applications send the shortcut Intent to the Launcher application. There is no way of telling the system that the shortcut should show up on this widget.
It probably could be possible to create these shortcuts manually for supported applications, like Chrome, but that would require quite a lot of work.

Nice work @Jeopardy! Thanks for sharing some dev notes too, might be useful for future widgets/apps.

Thank you. Yeah I was wondering for the right place to put this. Now that you mentioned it, I guess the proper place would be the Original Android Development, but to put it there now would require a moderator.

Since I am using the "default" black theme I would prefer to have an option to switch between "black" and "white" version. I already created the changed images to basically switch your images to "all transparent" with white icons and a white circle around them for "pressed status". Since I am a new user I can't attach them to the post yet. Can you tell me a way to share them with you?
Besides that: can you share the sources of your widget to allow us to build upon it ourselves?

I'll consider sharing the source later. At the moment it is rather messy and very much hardcoded. I am currently rewriting the configuration Activity to allow rearranging of the icons and adding some new functions. It will take some time for me to finish this to a level I'm satisfied with.

I just released an update which addresses your idea of shortcuts for system's default browser (Chrome) and EPD's browser. Now the widget's framework is so flexible that it is very easy to add new shortcut targets. The only problem (still) is that the shortcuts have to be created manually from the widget, which means relatively complex dialogs. Shortcuts for browser is extremely handy, but can you think of some other app whose shortcuts would be as useful?

That was to be expected. I don't think they included the SDK library until Lollipop. Sorry.

Major update
Okay, here's a new update for you guys.
First off, the minor (but important fixes) include fixing nonresponsive buttons if the device has been inactive for a long time, and some minor optimizations.
The big new function is a fully functional contacts list! I had been working on this for a while, waiting for Yota to update their caller app so I wouldn't have to do it. But it seems they are busy doing something else. So I became impatient and decided to include it here, as it needs an EPD widget anyway to launch it. So just add the contact list widget to the toolbelt from options, open it from the back screen, and you can browse all your contacts (with phone numbers) and then call them directly from the EPD. It also supports sending SMS's, but the catch is that it uses the front screen SMS editor via mirroring, not Yota's sleek EPD editor. The reason for this is there's no way to hook up to Yota's editor.
While I was building this update I also noticed quite serious security flaw in Yota's EPD dialer app. By default if you want to make a phone call from your app you need to add android.permission.CALL_PHONE to your manifest. However, I found out that Yota has left their EPD dialer app completely open for any app to ask for immediate phone call (like mine does), without any permissions what-so-ever. What were they thinking?
It also became frustratingly clear how bad the SDK is at the moment. The documentation is nonexistent, and you cannot even create dialogs. So many workarounds had to be made to make this work nicely.
But anyways, let me hear your opinions and experiences. There's bound to be some bugs somewhere and there's plenty of room to expand the contact list portion, provided I have the time.

Hi thanks for standing in where yota appear to lack
just downloaded and installed but although the contacts list works well the phone dialer doesnt but i do have a call confirm slider app (used to stop wrongly dialed numbers) which could block this (it does the same with yota dialer)
only way i have managed to work around this is to mirror the android dialer app but would be nice if you could? do anything?
like your commitment to develop - think you should look at a donate function somewhere..would buy you a coffee or two for your efforts

Basically what I do, is ask the official EPD dialer to make the phone call for me. If your call confirm slider app blocks the yota dialer, it will also block this. I guess you cannot add exceptions to the caller app? (Probably not, knowing Android's telephony API...)
An ugly workaround for your specific case would be for me to turn mirroring on when you press the call-button from my contacts list, and then ask the system's default dialer to make the call. Then your call confirm slider app would show up normally in the mirrored mode and you could finish the call. I might consider adding this later on as a setting somewhere, but no promises. It would be a lot cleaner if the mirroring mode would not be needed to finish the call, because turning it on takes quite a while and is a hassle to deal with when trying to do simple actions.
What is the name of the app you are using? I'll take a look.

thanks for reply been searching for it but cannot find it anywhere on app store!!! so guessing its gone
must have transferred from old phone or it just been removed from market this year? cannot remember
its called call confirm slider version 0.9.1 icon is black circle with telephone handset inside but dont have any other details.
had it for a few years now and has been stable / reliable

- Scheduled Shutdown and Start option present
- A few apps like Virtua tennis still don't dance along
- RAM usage has increased. From having about 1.8 GB free in Idle state with no apps running, I now have 1.2 GB.
- Right after Cold start, On lollipop, I used to have 2 GB RAM free, now I have 1.5 GB RAM free.
- So 500 MB to 600 MB RAM is used more here.
- Contacts now open in full screen, rather than a smaller window as in Lollipop
- Pro Camera is now called Professional
- All Other features the same
- Good Food mode is now moved to Settings and Time Lapse takes its place on the main screen
- Everything else in the Camera app seems to remain the same
- Some new cool wallpapers (there is a shark one)
- Icons now have a rounded rectangular box around them and are transparent In lollipop they were filled with a random color)
- Some App icons still have random color fill (like whatsapp) but some like Air Droid just have a transparent rectangle. Some, like Uber, still have the corner of their icons truncated
- I think it freed about 300 MB from Internal Storage (I am not sure)

I tried Google Now on tap but it did not work. All I got was "No cards now". I have turned it on in Settings.

- Icons for missed calls have changed and the notification panel now shows how long the phone rang.
- App permissions that PM Plus granted are missing. In its place is google's own app permissions. It does the same thing but while app permissions on Lollipop offered a central view, now one has to go to every app to find out their permissions and change them. There is no place where, say, I can see how many apps have access to Contacts.
- Too early to say battery life is affected but it does seem to be slightly better.
- I could not find Doze settings anywhere

- One can now create rules for Donot Disturb mode.
- Phone seems slightly faster
- There are more transition effects now

I have registered and still not received the update

I have got OTA on 7th Jan,
1.Battery seems to be same as previous version.
2.no doze mode
3.no Google now on tap
4.battery usage is hidden inside battery manager..more complicated
5.No USB mass storage option.. only files and photos option for USB
6.Animation looks nice
7.No major change in UI
8.Smart controller have new Tv shows option..but all are in Chinese...no use
9.Multiwindow option (like Samsung have) works only with selected apps
10.Recent Apps view changed to single app per page.. New compass app
12.Camera Quality seems to be improved

I'm in B160 not even B170

What would you mean by No USB Mass Storage option ? Only photos and files ? If you mean that apps cannot now be moved there, that is not completely true. I tried to move accupedo app (10 MB) and it worked fine. But then I tried to move angry Birds 2 (119 MB), it said not enough space on memory card, which is untrue because my memory card has above 25 GB free.

Issues that I am facing
I found couple of issues that I think are bugs:
1. There is pop-up that is shown whenever I try to use any of voice recording apps like 'Video Recorder', 'Screen Recorder' etc. This seems to left over from the developer. Very annoying when doing screen recording.
2. No option to choose the Data Cycle ( 'From' and 'To' dates) when setting 'Traffic Reminder Settings' under 'Data traffic management'.
Anybody else experiencing same issues??

Issues I found:
Smart assistance, voice control doesn't work properly. It pops up automatically hearing voice. Cannot make call most of the time.
Stock browser removed
Camera lags when used in slo motion or time lapse
Unable to understand mirrorshare
No release note for rollback from android M
