I have the Nexus 5X and the Turbo 2, and I need to choose between the two devices, I'm coming from the Moto X 2014. I've been using the 5X for a couple days and I do like it, but there are a few annoyances to me, mainly the speaker when streaming podcasts and such.
I'm just having trouble deciding between a sleek, stock android, but cheaper built Google phone and the powerful, hefty, bloated, but higher build quality Motorola phone.
Kind of stumped on this one, but leaning towards the Turbo 2 because I feel it'd last a bit longer. I know only I can decide what phone I want, but just looking for some opinions.
I keep the both.
I've been debating the same thing with my wife's Turbo 2. The battery life gets here through the day but that's it. I'm very underwhelmed by it. It gets about 2.5 hours of screen on time from 7am to 7pm and that leaves the battery anywhere from 50% and sometimes down to 25%. I really thought Doze would clean up any errant apps she might have keeping it awake, but so, far it's been exactly the same. Even overnight it still uses up to 25% of the battery just sitting on the table. I'd like to switch her to the Nexus 5X, I know Doze would work properly, but with the much smaller battery, I don't know how it would hold up throughout the day. She'd prefer not having to charge a second time just to make it through the evening.
She also had the Moto X 2014 previously and the battery life on it was the only downside. Never traveled anywhere without a travel charger because it just couldn't be trusted to make it past 12 hours.
Do it. Once you go Nexus, you never go back. Unless you're an idiot like me lol.
My friend had the Nexus 5 - I thought the processor was very slow nice feel but needs more of a motor
That's tough...
What does she do on her phone? What do you think the upsides of getting her a nexus vs the dt2? Any benefits you think you will lose when switching? Personally.... I really don't know... After kind of being stuck on a contract with the DT2 (or else paying an arm and a leg) I think the DT2 is an awesome phone. I personally wouldn't switch because I love the speed, power, endurance, screen (shatterproof part, the actualy P-Oled is only okay) and clean stock android (with tons of bloat). However, I can live with the downsides. I obviously get the Fi benefits and the NEXUS support but, again, it's all tradeoffs. In the end, it's your decision. Speed and endurance, vs software and fingerprint sensor.

So I've had the Incredible since launch day and must say that I'm very pleased with it. The first day I had a couple of random reboots and on day two my phone was awake 100% of the time. I did a battery pull and haven't had any issues since. The following is long so I've sectioned it off. Read what you want and leave the rest for others to read. I'm sure some of you have had different experiences, but this is mine and these are my opinions.
Battery Discussion
Others have complained that the battery is less than stellar (at least in the forums I've read). I always try to hold off judgment early on for two reasons: 1. It's a new toy and I'm prone to using the crap out of it & 2. I think battery calibration time is needed for the phone. This isn't for the battery but time for the phone to calibrate with how the battery discharges. I used the stock 1300mAh battery for the first week and started using a Seidio 1750 on Saturday.
I know this is a hot debate, and I even started to doubt my purchase after placing the order. I read reports and claims that Seidio battery's are only good for 84% of their claimed capacities and such. When the battery arrived on Friday (the 1750mAh btw), I waited till the end of the night before installing it. I powered down the phone, inserted the battery, and left it to charge while turned off. The following day I had extremely heavy use. GPS ran for 1 1/2 hours (display on), Slacker Radio for 45 minutes, lots of web browsing, and sitting in a theater with poor signal (it was hunting for 90 minutes). At the end of day one I had around 5 hours of awake time and 12 hours of uptime before it started running low. Sunday the phone saw moderate use through most of the day. I wanted to drain the battery before bed so I turned on all my radios, jacked up the brightness, and played videos for about 90-120 minutes before it shutdown for the evening. Monday I had similar results to Sunday, I was getting about 6 hours of awake time with 14+ hours of uptime. Actually on Monday I didn't even wear the phone down to the point of shutting down. I only got it to 10% or so, not sure on the awake (over 5 for sure) time but my uptime was 15 1/2 hours.
I did notice something funny this morning. I forgot to charge my phone while off last night and woke up to a fully charged unit (according to the green indicator). I unplugged the phone and checked the HTC battery widget, 93%!?!?! This was after 7 hours of charging. I turned the phone off and let it charge to green while powered off. This confirms what I've heard others say, that the phone is not fully charging the battery and falls short about the last 10% or so.
Screen Protector
I ordered Phantom Skinz matte protector Friday from Amazon for $18. This is my first dealing with Phantom Skinz and my order came in yesterday. I actually got 2 x matte finish and 2x regular protectors. I tried the matte out and hated it, so on came the normal and it's nice. I have used Zagg's Invisible Shield(on an iPhone) and I couldn't believe the difference. Application was the easiest I've ever experienced and I'm very happy with it. As time goes on I'll get a better feel for it, but the initial impression is good.
Case
I've been using the Silicone Gel Verizon case and like it for a temporary cover until something better comes out. As others have reported Otter Box just put in a product suggestion for me and I don't see anything on Case-Mate's webiste I'm sure the demand will bring about a product soon, just email and let them know there's a demand.
Compared to other Android devices I've used...
It's awesome and feels like the Android phone I've been waiting for. I've tried the Sprint Hero, Motorola Droid, and Verizon Eris. While they were all good they just fell short in areas that seem to bother me. The Incredible has a fitting name in my book and the camera is leaps and bounds better than what I expected.
Compared to my iPhone/iPad experience
I'll say this, Android is a better fit for me on the phone platform. I left the iPhone for my Eris which has recently been sold to fund my Incredible. I got an iPad shortly after launch, but after getting the Incredible I find that it only serves as an e-reader for me.
That's quite the remarkable story you've got there. Not enough to be incredible P), but remarkable nonetheless.
Also, why did you hate the matte finish so much? Does it interfere with the performance of the touch screen?

LOL, thanks for the comments. I didn't like the matte screen because it really blurred the screen a ton. Touchscreen responsiveness was still great, but it killed the clarity of the screen.
Tilt2 to Droid Incredible
I came from the Tilt2 on AT&T and I LOVE this phone and almost everything about it. What I am not exactly pleased with Verizon's CDMA.
I dislike how I have to disable "Always Connected Data" to get decent battery life. On my Tilt2, I could stay on MSN messenger 24/7 with very little impact on my battery. With that option off my battery life is much better, but Meebo also shows me offline a lot on MSN.
Also those AT&T commercials about the "No data+voice" is ringing true. Already there has been 4 instances in a 4 day period where that has caused me a problem. I guess it was something I took for granted on AT&T.
I guess I am stuck here for 2 years, because I just can't go back to AT&T and their lack of decent phones. They must have some sort of agreement with Apple to limit what phones they offer in order to maintain their exclusivity. I was hoping to get a decent Android or Windows Phone 7 on AT&T but I doubt that will ever happen.
I came from xv6800 on Verizon. So far I'm impressed. I love the speed of the phone. Internet is super quick and very fluid. Not to mention it also does flash lite which is a definite plus. The only issue I have is probably the battery. It could be better, but it's not horrible.

Really? you have to turn off "Always Connected Data"? I keep mine on all the time. I also keep GPS on and I get a full day's worth. Granted, I don't have msn or any chat client on all the time.
Hey At&t is suppose to get the galaxy s. That phone looks like a beast. I have no idea when that's coming out though.
Past Windows Mobile user
Well let me start by saying that this is my first Android phone. I am a long time user of Windows CE PocketPC Mobile. (Hmm, I guess this implementation of BB doesn't have strikethrough enabled, but you get the point.)
An iPaq lured me away from Palm; the Samsung i-760 convinced me to switch from a PPC and mobile phone, to an all-in one device; and now the Incredible has gotten me to switch platforms.
I had seriously considered jumping carriers for the iPhone, but alas, where I live AT&T doesn't have a great signal, and those few that do have them, are waiting until their contract ends to jump to Sprint or Verizon.
I wasn't the one who "discovered" the Incredible though - I was happy with my Imagio (thanks to Energy ROM, found here) and had just switched from the TouchPro. My wife was up for a new phone, and got the Incredible, which I then had to set up for her! After four hours (no, it doesn't take that long to set up, I just played around with it for that long!) I was hooked. I went back the next day, and they still had one in stock. I switched and haven't looked back.
I haven't found any reason to mod the rom (or I guess it's rooting on Android), and the sheer speed is awesome. I felt like a traitor to Windows Mobile (hey it was a long term relationship remember), but that only lasted about two days.
I miss hand-writing recognition for SMS and data-entry, but other than that, this is a device that you will love. Spend a few minutes with it, try it out if you can get your hands on it. You will never look back.
Well here's the drill. I'm coming from a oneplus one with outstanding battery life and Ive had the note for a day now, battery life has sucked so much, so so much and it even lags sometimes, I can literally see the percentage dropping. Every site I check rates note 5 higher for battery life than note 5, which seems odd to me, and I don't know what to do, should I get the nexus 6p or keep this phone and learn to live with it? Is the oneplus one from outer space for that battery life?
You might get some biased answers here since this is a 6p forum but I'd check the battery stats first, see what's causing that drain. Some phones require a few charges to optimize the battery too. Finally, it could just be a faulty model
I researched the Note 5 real hard between trying out an iPhone 6S+ and buying a 6P. I was coming from an S5 and the wife has a Note 3, which we both like quite a bit. Her Note is actually what got me wanting a bigger screen than my S5. But I did read a lot of complaints about the Note 5 battery life (and the glass backs cracking, even saw a display model at Best Buy with a busted back glass). And being I'm Verizon with no chance to root a Note 5, I opted for the 6P. Battery life has been very good with a few tweaks. Browse through the threads here to find what works. And you don't have to go nuts with the tweaks. For me, just running a custom Kernel, using Greenify for a few apps and not installing GasBuddy were all that was needed.
The Nexus 6P is a great device from a software point of view (= guaranteed updates, no Knox or other nasty stuff ) but not very durable from a mechanical point of view. You really have to take care when using this phone because the Aluminum body is weak and prone to warping or bending. That´s the only downside of this device..
I would say if you're looking to switch because of battery life you likely won't find find much relief by switching to the Nexus 6P. Most new high end phones are clocking in 4-6 hours of screen on time. The Oneplus One may have provided you better battery life due to the lower resolution screen, older (probably less power hungry) processor, and tweaks that were part of CyanogenMod. What kind of screen on time are you getting between the Oneplus One and Note 5?
In terms of performance, I haven't seen a single issue with the Nexus 6P, but screen on time maxes out for me around 4-5 hours. The standby time has been much improved in Marshmallow, but that update should be seen soon-ish on the Note 5.
I've found myself in the same boat, the Note is pretty damn good but there are some software issues such as the memory management, bloat and most of all 32gb not being close to enough HD space. Is the warp thing really an issue? I've not heard of anything regarding it.

Yes, it is an issue. I'd be willing to say that almost every device will suffer from it (even if the owner does not realise) mine warped after a day in a case.

Yes, just read through the 'bent after 2 days' thread and that certainly sound worrying. Really wanted to switch over with the annoyances of the Note lately. Is it enough to warrant not switching or something to 'live with'?
You won't notice it honestly, I just make sure I don't sit on it or anything. The phone itself is a lot better than the note 5. Worth the buy if you're careful

If I have any kind of warping on my Nexus 6P I can't see it. The only time warping might be bothersome is if you want to use a tempered glass screen protector, as it will peel away from the display.
Regardless, if you already have a current generation high end Android, you're probaly better off waiting for the next generation. Unless you really got money to burn!
I had the Note 5 before upgrading to the 6P. I am much happier with the 6P, it's better in every way IMO with the exception of the Note 5 having a bit better camera.
I had a OPO and loved the battery life, I went to the N6 and then the N6P and wouldn't even think of any other phone at this point. If you enjoy tweaking, the 6P is the phone for you. Running Cataclysm rom + ElementalX + Pay and V4A, I get between 5-6 hours of SOT, but more importantly for me, I'm usually around 30-40% after my long work day.
I've not had a single issue with any bend or warp. I always put a tempered screen protector on and a very minimal case. I would imagine any thin, larger phone will bend if in your rear pocket if sat on, the IPhone6+ had a similar "issue".

Lucky the note still has good resale value here! Can sell it and pick up a 64gb Nexus for the same price off Gumtree.

I don't think so, but I don't carry my phone in my pocket. I use a NiteIze belt carrier. It did make me opt for getting the phone straight from Google though, so I could get the Google Protect program on it. Cost me a little more to get it that way, but good peace of mind since all the feedback I've read about using that program has been very good.

So far battery life has been excellent for me. I uploaded this for another thread but it may help answer your questions. I should mention that since the last full charge I have not been playing games or streaming video, which might have move the drop-off point up a few hours.
I am sure you can see, there are a bunch of 6P owners complaining about battery life also. My opinion is biased but my 6P seems great with all the stuffs on so far. I would recommend going a full day with location services turned off, google now fully turned off, to see how much drain there is. I came from a Note 4 and that got pretty good battery life with location services off and google now off. I manually turned the GPS on and off when I needed it. Also try removing/disabling as much Samsung and carrier bloatware as possible.
I had a Droid Turbo for 1.5 years that got great battery life. I am a power user, and averaged between 4 and 4.5 hrs of SOT in a 16 hour day.
For no good reason, I decided it was time to get a new phone, and I chose the S7e SD 820 model based on the reviews. While the phone is pretty, there were two dealbreakers for me. First, the Edge screen is too sensitive given the way I hold a phone, even when using a case. I'd constantly open apps on the left side of the screen by accident. Or worse, make weird typos in emails. The second, and bigger issue, is mentioned ad nauseum on this forum - the US version has major Android System battery drain that has not been addressed. I spent hours and hours trying to get in touch with someone who could help me at Samsung. I was promised callbacks, fixes, etc.. But when there was no follow through and I'd call back, they acted like nobody had ever reported the problem before. I then tried tweeting Samsung support, and they responded... By telling me that their customer service dept on Twitter has absolutely no way to contact someone who can solve the android system issue. Finally, after calling several times, I got in touch w a US based tier 2 tech support agent, who also told me the issue had never been reported. He had an S7 on hand, picked it up, and noted that there was definitely a problem. He put in a ticket but said it wouldn't be addressed until enough people complained to trip their system. Given the challenges of dealing w Samsung, and my big priority of having a long lasting battery, I finally gave up hope and returned my s7e to Verizon. This is the first time in 20 years of cell phones that I've ever made a return.
I wanted my Droid Turbo back, but unfortunately, I turned that in when I got the S7e. So, I decided to get a DT2. I'd call it a fine phone. Nothing special that differentiated it from the original for me. In fact, battery life for me averaged about 3.5-4 hrs SOT, less than the original. If I'm going to spend $700 on a new phone it has to be significantly better than my previous one in the category that's most important to me, which is battery life. I don't watch much video on my phone, but I definitely use apps intermittently throughout the day, including FB, Instagram, Bumble, TouchDown and Feedly. Since those don't need anything special in terms of graphics, my only goal was to get more device use time than the DT. Since that wasn't happening, I've now purchased a Nexus 6p.
From reading the forums, it sounds like Google is much more responsive to issues because this phone is running stock Android. While the processor is a generation dated from the S7e, I do appreciate that Google will update much faster than Samsung, who barely acknowledged a battery issue affecting 100% of US phones. I've now installed everything on my 6p, and am in the middle of testing it for "normal use" (meaning, how I use the phone, which may or may not reflect the norm). If this phone doesn't get better battery life than the DT, then I'm going to return it, call it a day, and purchase another DT on ebay.
I'm sure for many of you screen pixels, camera and processor speed matter, but I don't watch much video, find almost all cell phone cameras provide pixelated photos, particularly in low light, and I never had any issue opening FB or emails at warp speed on my Turbo. I can't justify getting equal or less battery life for a phone that costs $500 more than the original DT.
Anyway, I'll give an update once I've had a few days with my 6p, but feel free to post your experiences if you've had any of these devices.
You should be able to get at least 6 to 8 hours SOT with the SD820 Edge, just look at this threat and try it. Despite your bad experience so far this S7 should easily obliterate your DT and 6p. It's just a shame 800 bucks doesn't work great straight out of the box like most Exynos do and how it should be. But even Exynos isn't perfect, e.g. my standby drain is slowly creeping upwards from 2% per night on the first day till 4% now, 2 weeks later. Without ever changing a setting. Not complaining though This phone has potential like no other phone in market does at this point in time.
I'd strongly doubt that any phone could average 6+ hrs of SoT unless you're on wifi and using the screen continuously. But again, everyone uses their phones differently. For me, it was the terrible Samsung support that made me throw in the towel. I agree that the phone has potential, but potential is just that. If the people responsible for updating the phone don't pay attention to their customers than the phone will never improve beyond its potential.

Okay, so here is the gist of things:
I have a Google Nexus LG.
Bought it back in 2013 or 2014 so I've had it for a while
Here in the EU Samsung is finally offering the VR bundle so I got interested in buying it, but there is only 2-3 months before the new iphone is out too.
My question is, is the samsung galaxy 8 worth it?
How good is the battery life? I'm mainly concerned about that because my phones battery dies out rather quick.
The battery life on my Galaxy S8 is great. Caveat, I deleted apps like Facebook (which came preinstalled) and don't use any battery heavy apps except for Snapchat. However, Samsung has a built-in battery optimizer under the name 'Device Maintenance' which works great. Whenever I close Snapchat, it automatically shuts down the background process so it won't leech battery. I get around 8 hours of SOT, and can leave my phone off the plug for at least 24 hours, if not more when used less frequently. One time I left my phone off the charger for 50 hours or so just because I wasn't using it to the max. Very convenient, because I don't have to charge it overnight all the time.
Here are some screens.
http://i.imgur.com/REY9Kr2.png
http://i.imgur.com/JaxWy2L.png
One might argue the iPhone has good battery life, but that's because its app environment is limited in that everything has to be optimized. Also, the screen is apparently just now coming into the 1080p OLED world... not very promising. From the render, it also looks like the screen is cut out on the top for the speaker and camera (like the Essential Phone) which just looks tacky IMO. Also, if you're considering about the (exuberant) price, the iPhone will likely come out with a similar starting price. The VR bundle is definitely worth it! Apple is nowhere near that level of VR support, as far as I know.
The Google Nexus 5 was my first Google phone. I used to like it a lot. My Google Pixel XL is at it's box waiting for 8.0 Upgrade Platform. My Samsung Galaxy S8+ is a really good Android phone, great battery life. Sorry but I never got a iPhone and never will get one.

Hi guys!
I wanted to ask you how this phone defend itself in this time. Is it still good enough for the upcoming 2018?
I heard that the processor was overheating and it had similar problems with battery like his little bro moto x 2014.
The phone is good enough... the battery is life and longevity is garbage, this phones primary weakness is the battery and without it being replaceable easily with a good, quality replacement (which is hard to find) it just falls short.
Does it get warm... yup. The CPU and display are both battery hogs, and the battery Moto used is honestly at the end of it's life or near it for most people.
Thank you very much!
One more question. How's looking moto/ambient display on it?
I have Moto G 2015 (osprey) and Moto X 2014 (victara) and sometimes ambient display on osprey looks a bit bad because of it's IPS panel...

Ambient Display on the Moto X Pure is a little different... assuming you have the latest Nougat, it is one pulse of information, it doesn't repeat. Honestly, I find it of little use and disable it.
It sounds like you are looking at buying one... All I can say is don't bother at this point unless you are getting an really incredible bargain, like under 20% of the cost new, because the battery is that bad especially after this much time. There are much better bargains out there.
Since you have had a Moto G 2015 (and I did as well) let me give you a comparison... I found the X got 1/2-2/3 of the battery life of the Moto G 2015 when new, and that actually got worse. By the time I got rid of my MXPE after about 18 months of normal use, I was unable to get 2 hours of SOT over a 5 hour period and was charging 2-3 times per day, where the Moto G 2015 which was actually about 3 or 4 months older was still getting 3.5 hours of SOT and making it through a full day.
Def good enough. I bought an S8+ after having the Moto for 2 years. Development sucks for the American S8+. The only positive is better battery life, in my opinion. The display is kinda wonky on the Galaxy compared to the Moto as well. I was just praising the amount of flexibility allowed by the Moto in an S8+ thread. Yea, battery sucks but it charges quick. I still found myself charging less often and a hell of a lot more quickly than my coworkers with their crappy iPhones.
Battery life is not a problem for me. Still it lasts the whole day. There is a bunch of 7.1.2 roms which decrease the battery life noticeably. Stock or AICP, no problems with battery life. It gets hot by hard usage, yes.
Maybe really hard phone users wont last the day.
And any non-replaceable battery is replaceable. It just involves taking the phone apart.
Waiting for some 8.0 rom to test.
Now that I have 7.0 using the Sprint SIM trick on VZW and managed to get WiFi Calling working i think this phone is pretty sweet for the $250 I paid for it.
I would not buy this phone again, battery life is crap and cpu overheats even with easy 2d games (lol). Also there are common graphics glitches (like colors being way off for no reason or display looking broken with white stripes or something) that happen once 1-3 months (that's really strange) - sure they disappear after reboot but it makes this phone unreliable. Also the backlight quality in some devices is very bad.
yeah the screen, camera, speakers and build quality are very good. I have my Moto X Pure running on Carbon and it's very good. I'm gonna get a Moto Z next week though
As a backup phone for running Youtube TV or letting my daughter play with, absolutely. As a daily driver, not a chance in hell. The battery discharges too fast, the phone over heats, and the NFC is very spotty after 3 years.
Personally, I could get by easily with a Palm Pre or an Epic 4g. For my use the battery lasts all day and I get about 4.5 hrs of sot on average. I dont notice alot of heating up personally on AEX rom with handbag kernel.
Because nothing else is yet!
The answer is yes... because it's the only thing "good enough to deal with." Aside from the basics, I have six standard criteria for choosing a mobile device, of which five absolutely must be met (Verizon compatibility, unlockable bootloader, excellent screen, acceptable camera, price, and software). The Pure Edition soundly meets all six, and then some. No other device (at this point in time) can match that. The deteriorating battery situation is a bummer, but largely overblown by people (like myself) who used Magisk and got stuck with the whole magisk-daemon-eating-up-the-battery situation.
With that said, I've always got my eyes open for devices that can satisfy these six basic criteria, but in the meantime, I'll count my blessings. I've researched dozens upon dozens of different phones, and the only thing that this research makes me feel is thankfulness for the Pure Edition, because I don't know what I'd do without it, at least for the long term.
