Galaxy Y Doorstop? - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

Morning:
I have an old Galaxy Y GT S5360 that is rooted with the stock ROM on it. My girlfriend broke her phone so I gave her this one to use until she can get another phone.
Is there a STABLE custom ROM out there that can support the latest browser(s) and has access to the play store?
Most of the ones I have seen appear to just be Gingerbread with various UI facelifts; or they claim to be Android 4.XX but really aren't.
I need a functional phone, a functional browser, functional wifi, and functional play store.
Anyone seen one of these in the wild?
Thanks for your time
N

Yes, Cyanogenmod 11 is the newest version available (and possible) for the Galaxy Y, this is the main thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765874
Download for ROM: http://www.mediafire.com/download/a361f02wti4dhrk/cm-11.0.0-GT-S5360-totoro.zip
Gapps is here, make sure to use this one since other ones can brick your phone, break wifi etc: http://www.mediafire.com/download/o8awd5jbmc7l5cs/gapps-kk444-(20160719)-v5.0.zip
Follow instructions in the thread I linked for install

Thanks Anyhoo

Thanks for responding champ, but CM 11 doesn't look very promising at the moment (or Cm 9 or Cm 7 either)
Guess it's a doorstop
Cheers

This phone is too old to get the latest Android versions. Either you flash a CM rom (which you said you don't want to) or a stock based rom ("Gingerbread with various UI facelifts")
Stock based roms are usually more stable.

Best Vanilla/Nexus style ROM for the Note 4 (N910F)

Hi all, I'm trying to find a ROM which is most like untouched standard Android (Like what you'd get on a Nexus device); this sort of ROM used to be referred to as 'Vanilla' but may also be know as Nexus or Google Play Edition.
I played with my friends new Moto X yesterday and the OS was so much faster and responsive than my phone, in my opinion. Furthermore, I prefer the aesthetics of the standard ROM; I know Motorola ROM's aren't completely free of changes but they are certainly a lot more uncustomised than Samsung with all its additions and customisations which I really hate the look of and find my phone gets laggy quickly unless a restart is performed.
I have extensive experience loading custom ROM's but I don't want to have to try all of them, I was hoping you may be able to help me find a ROM which matches my requirements. The addition of S Pen apps/compatibility would be awesome but I can obviously look into adding this myself if the ROM does not natively support it.
Thanks community!

If you just want plain standard nexus type rom them you just want plain cm from the original development section. There are a few versions of cm with added tweaks around as well but cm roms are pretty much only available for the qualcom n4 plus every cm rom will have a couple of bugs

Best ROM threads are banned. What works well for 1 person may not necessarily work well for you, its trial and error my friend.
aosp based roms
theres an aicp ported rom and rr ported rom in the development thread , also not on xda is du rom available on their website wich is what I'm currently using
note 4 910f best stable rom pie
im a newbie can you help please.
Did you find a rom that worked for samsung note 4 n910F marhmallow to pie? blutooth and camera ok?
A shop did this for me they tried twice but though android pie worked when I switched the fone off.. power off from the shutdown menu at end of day.... it wouldnt reastart at all. They gave up and reloaded samung marsmallow again which its running now.
As a newbie id appreciate knowng how and in which order you did this. Im thinking odin on computor, root fone to take nandroid copy twrp
If I end up with the same problem as the shop ie no restart, could I obtain and load an original samsung ver 5 or 6 android, as this would be easier than rooting the fone in order to make a nandroid copy.
THANK YOU !!! april 2020.

easiest rom to go with that includes everything like modem and gapps and such.

What is the best rom to go with that has the modem and gapps included? also one with good tethering/hotspot so I dont gotta be subject to carrier extortion and rape... LOL.
I want something easy to flash and stuff since I am not the best with this sorta thing and money is tight. So can't afford to buy a new phone.
Stock based ROM.

I don't have a lot of time.. That's why I posted here.
Ordering phone on Monday and going on a trip wed.
Wanna have the ROM by then with the least amt. of issues with straight talk.
Stay with the stock rom then. Most custom roms don't have gapps included.
Also, most custom roms require you to have a custom recovery. This requires additional flashing and time.
well I know about that but just some roms don't have modems or other things and I don't wanna have to search manually for stuff that's why I asked here !!
They're recommending stock because of the amount of time you have available to you before your trip. If you seriously want to flash a custom ROM prior to your trip, then you want to flash a Cyanogenmod-based or AOSP ROM. The question is, which version of Android do you want?
If you want Android 5.11, install Optimized CM12.1 + GApps.
If you want Android 6.0, AOSP 6 + GApps. If you want the goodies normally found in a Cyanogenmod-based ROM, then you want Synergy or CrDroid + GApps.
All the ROMs recommended install quickly with TWRP as your recovery. Keep in mind however that every ROM, even stock ROMs, will have bugs. However the bugs in the aforementioned ROMs will not prevent you from using the device. The good news is that unless you use a CDMA device such as a Verizon or Sprint Galaxy S4, you should not have to worry about which modem you have. The same cannot always be said for the Touchwiz ROMs, but even then, unless you have a pre-Android 5 modem you should be OK.
For Touchwiz-based ROMs, look at the ones available from Albe95. Regardless of which one you install, keep in mind that the package is much larger than Cyanogenmod or AOSP, and thus will take longer to install. Albe95 generally recommends the latest modem for your device, so if that is a deal breaker, then go Cyanogenmod/AOSP.
I want 4.4.x or 5.o for some of the betas I'm testing.
Will the ones you recommended have the modem included. I'd hate to have to hunt n peck n trial n error with that.
Custom ROMs do not include modems, period. If a ROM recommends a modem, you'll have to get it from the appropriate thread. I can tell you that AOSP and Cyanogenmod do not require a specific modem. For example, I'm running AOSP 6 on Straight Talk as we speak. I never upgraded the modem from the Android 5.0.1 version I installed seven months prior.
so CM doesn't include it? that sucks. what one do you recommend? and how is that flashed?
As mentioned, no custom ROM includes the modem in its download, because unless the ROM specifies otherwise, you use the one already on the phone. So in the case of Cyanogenmod, there is nothing special to do. Simply install the recovery through Odin, boot into the recovery, and install the ROM.

Which stable but speedy and debloated ROM for gf?

Hello everyone,
I personally never owned a Samsung device (always Nexus and mostly with Paranoid Android or Dirty Unicorns ROM) but my girlfriend has one and she defeniately needs it to be flashed :good:
As I am completely new to Samsung devices, I have no idea about all the developers and different ROMs that are out there for the Samsung Note 4 (Snapdragon).
I don't have much time to try around with different ROMs as it isn't my phone.
I need one that is good, stable, fast (and also supports the stylus / samsung apps). So I can flash it quickly and have a happy girlfriend
So that is the reason I an asking in the first place. Else I would just flash around and keep trying until I find the best fit.
I saw CM is officially supporting the Note 4. So that one might be a good solution. But does it have all those stylus samsung stuff?
Any other ROMs I should check out?
Do I need to flash a new radio?
Thanks in advance and sorry for posting another "which ROM" thread. But I can't really test around to find out on my own as it is not my device that I am going to improve !
If n910g, this is highly recommended, although you have to disable or uninstall later all apps that you don't want if you want a debloated rom.

It is N910F.
The link you provided is simply stock android MM?
Yes stock MM, stock is in my experience the most stable and bug free rom build. But the link is for n910g unfortunately.
Stock ROM, and then debloat yourself. Quite honestly speaking, and no offence to anyone, there are no good ROMs available for Note 4. In fact I myself might have not got the phone if I realised the development section is like this. And I am not interested in ported ROMs, so even though there are many available I won't go that way, and I am too dumb to make a ROM for myself, so stock ROM it is.
I agree, stock rom rooted and debloat it, and apply msm tweaks. If you want, xposed as well.

You must flash samsung based rom to have all soen features and samsung apps. I reconnemed kurama rom which in using , its battery friendly, fast and stock based. If you going to flash kurama rom you must flash modem and bootloader for the rom to boot up (only can be flashed from pc with odin)

[Q] How to install Galaxy App Store on Galaxy [A3/A5/A7/A8] on ROM

Hello guys,
Id like to install the Galaxy App Store on my Phone which is currently running a ROM. Thats why I installed the G apps, and as we all know there is no Galaxy App Store within the G apps. Before I was on stock ROM there I had the Galaxy App Store. So I thought of asking in general how to install it on a Galaxy A-Device.
I know that you can install it from plenty of sides. But is there any official download. And which one is the safest.
When I have downloaded it, and there is a new version out of it, will the app update it by its self?
If you're running a custom TW rom and it doesn't have Galaxy app store, then it's probably removed as bloatware.
You can probably add it back but may need some other files to be restored as well except the store apk itself.
If you're on an AOSP based rom like LOS, then there's no chance to get Galaxy apps to work. You'll need a rom based on TW for that.
Well my phone runs on an unofficial lineage OS ROM.
What are those abbreviation standing for, TW, AOSP and LOS.
Thanks for answering
First of all thanks for answering @tys0n
But since I am not so good with abbreviations, could you possibly tell me what TW, AOSP and LOS means?
My phone runs on an unofficial Lineage OS.

Please help - want to upload android 7 onto S4 I9500

I want to upload android 7 onto my S4, and was able to install TWRP and to make a nandroid backup. But the page with the instructions I was using has an empty link for the android 7 ROM. All my searches could find were pages for I9505, and I have I9500. Then I found these forums. Can someone recommend a source for the most stable least possible problematic android 7 ROM for an S4 I9500? Thanks - Mark

I don't know enough about the difference to say I want the custom, so I'll just say which ever is easiest and/or most reliable. Sorry I posted in the wrong place at first - this site is huge and I've never done any of this before.
I just need an android 7 for my S4 I9500 so I can use a walabot attachment stud finder for a home project.

Go to this website. You can find some android 7 stock firmware for the specific model. Do not flash stock firmware using TWRP. Use ODIN flash tool for that.
Samsung Firmware Download - Lastest official firmware update

If you are looking for custom ROM, You have to find one which is suitable for your device. I can't recommend one because i haven't tested any custom ROM on that device model.
Thanks so much for your assistance - like I said - I've never done any of this before. I'll post a note on my success (hopefully) later.
Back to square one - the Samsung official ROM for the S4 I9500 only goes to Android 5, so I'll have to find a custome ROM after all to get 7, and I need 7 for this phone attachment.

Google this: Android 7 custom rom s4 i9500.
But i can't guarantee that those ROMs will perfectly work on your device.

I tried to find lineage os rom for your device but it seems like your device is not in the list and those custom lineage roms aren't android 7 roms.
