Apps will not transfer to sd card - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I'm trying to move some apps to SD card but it just stays on the exporting screen forever, the app never gets moved.
Anyone know why?
I'm rooted with TWRP installed.

Unable to back up on ExtSdcard

Hi guys,
I was trying to back up my nova feature to my SD card and for x reason it didn't work. Saving to internal storage work but that would be useless when wiping for a new ROM, I noticed I can't transfer files from my device too ( internal to SD gotta be done by computer). SD card is a 32gb Kingston
Thanks

Hi There
Google has blocked the permission to write to sd card.
easiser solution is download SDFIX from google play.
root required.
Any idea why did they did? I'll try it, thanks

Google seems take it as a security issue.
It happens kk4.4 or later.

Use Samsung's own app for file moving, worked for me with with multimedia files.
Save it to phone memory then transfer to sd card using my files app.

SDFix definitely fixes the issue if you are rooted. Android 4.4 changes the stock permissions, so apps only have read/write permissions to folders that they create and can't write to folders created manually or by other apps. SDFix restores permissions to how they were prior to 4.4. Its less secure, but it allows programs like Titanium Backup to function again.

I have no problems with nova backup to sd on my s4,and its on 4.4 too
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Right now there isn't a way to change the folder where the Nova backups are stored (/sdcard/data/com.teslacoilsw.launcher/backup). What you can do next time is make your backup and then copy it to your SD card or PC. When you do your next reset you can copy that backup file back to where it's expected to be and be back in business. Kind of poor coding that you can't just save it to your SD in the first place...
Omega ROM doesn't have that glitch.
An app called File expert can read/write to external xd card without root. They have sorted this issue out
Sdfix did work guys. I used it to backup Nova setting on ExtSd

Vault type aps

I have some weird but probably noob problem. The thing is that I love private mode on s5 but it encrypt everything on internal sd which is very annoying. I haven't found a solution on how to hide my ext sd media on my ext sd. Installed plenty of vault applications but every single time I couldn't change vault location to my external sd card. The card is 32gb made for Android with primary fat32 and 2 gb swap ext4. I got Samsung s5 g900f European model running Android 5.0 without root.

Putting an empty file called .nomedia in any dorectory will hide it from the gallery, video player, and some file explorers.

Theyre going to be easily accessible no matter what unless you encrypt them or something, you could use privaye mode included woth the phone, or theres some apps that will make an encrypted volume for you.

For starters, afaik private mode makes its own partition on the infernal sd, theres no full encryption, just an encrypted partition. As for the encrypted volume apps most need root so, i found two that look good though, cryptonite or eds lite, i would check those.

Nope I haven't tried those since years ago I have paid for best vault app on google play and i still love it ... your 2 apps got terrible media browser ...
Didn't know about that we can move vault ... in my case this folder is totally invisible if you don't have root access.

Cant move to SDCard after a restart

Ok, so a strange thing has happened. Immediately after a reatart I now can't move apps to my SDCard.. and apps that i had previously move have now disappeared from the app drawer. And are grayed out on the home screen with a little sdcard symbol. The SDcard is working fine in all other respects i can read and write to it just fine..
Has anybody else experienced this or can suggest a reason as to why this may have happened.

I've had this before on a previous sd card, just before it died, what model sd Card and where did you purchase it from?
Sent from my S7 Edge
Its an actual Samsung EVO 64Gb. I bought it from Harvey Norman - where i bought the phone from... not even a week old.

Can you access other files on the card? Try ejecting it (in Settings / Storage), popping out the SIM card holder to make sure the SD card is seated properly, then reinstall it.
Yep, i can read and write to the card fine.. all my files are there. The strange thing is the ability to move to SD card was there prior to restart... now its gone.. but for all other things the card is fine..

Can you see any items in the LOST. DIR folder?
Same thing, I just ejected and re mounted it. it fixed it
How much are you able to move? Is it still a small part of an app?

There is nothing in the LOST.DIR folder.
At the moment i cant move any part of an app to the SD card. The option to do it has disappeared...

If I was you, i would back up the sd Card and then use an sd Card checker to run a test to make sure nothing is wrong with it,

Put this into Google as you may have to use Google Translate, but the program is in English, great program. It may take a while but let it go all the way to the end.

TWRP nandroid backup on SD card with Marshmallow

I have a question about doing a TWRP backup and restore from an SD card. I was able to backup my current ROM to my SD card (I should note that I am running Marshmallow and using my SD card as adoptable storage), but I am not able to access the backup from my PC or from any file manager app on the phone.
the backup appears to be in /external_sd/media/0/TWRP/backups but I can't seem to find that folder anywhere to copy that backup folder to my PC. Is there a way to overcome this?
Yes, make your sd card portable storage.

Clear data on External Storage and Media Storage apps and reboot... Note you may have to reassign ringtone, notification tone, and alarm sounds after this.

Where do I clear data on external storage? I do not see the option to do that in the Settings. I can only clear cached data.

Anyways, I ended up just reformatting the SD card as portable. Seems that is the only way

I just installed Marshmallow.
SD card formatted portable, but not recognized in recovery (TWRP). So, I reformatted again as portable. Still nothing. I cleared data for media and external storage. Still nothing.
SD card shows fine on phone and PC. But nothing in TWRP.
Should I try another recovery? Did I miss something?

I was on TWRP 3.0 ... tried several times. Lost my ENTIRE SD card after reformat (argh). Finally switched to an old Philz. Worked like a charm.
Crazy!
This is an old post but this answer might help someone now also, it tricked me for a min. In twrp when you hit backup at the bottom of the screen it says "storage" click that, then choose your SD card or internal memory for the backup.

Unable to move apps back to the internal memory

Hi, I've moved some apps to the SD Card using App2SD and Lucky Patcher. But now I get an error whenever I try to move them back to the internal memory, an error that starts with pkg. I wonder if someone could help me fix this because it is only a problem because I'm switching to the S8+ and I can't Smart Switch the apps inside the SD Card's memory. Thanks in advance.
P.S. I somehow managed to get them into the internal memory, but those apps don't seem to go through Smart Switch, what can I do?

Use titanium backup and back them up, then delete them all.... (titanium should backup data too) and take out sd and restore? Just thought of that so no promises
