Returning Phone - Replacement Enroute - Back to Stock? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife got a 64GB gold 6P a few months ago and it has had the "Fingerprint Hardware Not Available" error going on since she got it. I finally got her to call and get a replacement, and it'll be here tomorrow. The only thing they had her to do before they sent her a replacement was clear the cache in settings, and this didn't help.
Her bootloader is unlocked, she's rooted, Pure Nexus running great, but I wanted to check here before anything else, we should put this 100% back to stock before returning it right?

Yes, return to stock and relock the bootloader. (otherwise you risk them sending the defected one back and them charging you for the replacement)

Tried to give you thanks but I'm out for the day.
Her device is returned, new one doesn't have the issue and is running the same software, just for anyone who ends up here searching for the fingerprint issue.

[Q] Failed to boot 0X1000

Hi everybody, this what happened:
I tried to flash my atrix with Atrix 1.26 Retail SBF through RSDLite.
After that it shut down and when i try to turn it on it says :"Failed to boot 0X1000" then it shuts down again. It doesn't even give me any option.
For the record, my phone was up to date (i got that wifi only system update by att). Also, this phone is unlocked and I have no warranty with any carrier.
I hope I didn't brick it.
Please give me simple solutions if there is any. Your help will b very much appreciated.
Thank you so much.
i'll let others break down the news to you..
Sorry bud, but I believe you now have a nice set of glass upon to look at.

Can't believe people are still doing this with all the warnings in the forums.
You tried to SBF back to 4.1.26 (Froyo) on a bootloader unlocked phone. You now have a very expensive reflective beer coaster!

This error also comes up with soft bricks which you can fix as you gave options to choose from and can recover. This guy has no options.

People are being helpful...by telling you sorry. If you need it for work, you'll probably just need to go buy a new phone ASAP. Like others have said, there are plenty of warnings and instructions on what/what not to do on your phone. Unfortunately, you missed those. Hope you can find another phone for cheap...
You have a hard brick, never try to downgrade. Nottach was able to fix his because he got a brick by upgrading, and he was lucky enough to figure it out. Downgrading on the other hand ruins your device, every time

We are helping you, by telling you that there's nothing that you can do. Your phone is hard bricked. There is absolutely no way to recover from a hard brick, period. You need to replace the phone. That is the reality, and there is no getting around it.
I was running CM9 on my Atrix when my digitizer went bad and I got a dead spot. I submitted it for warranty and before I sent it I tried to put it back to normal. I did something wrong I guess and ended up with a different boot error (didn't even give me an error code the screen was black unless I plugged it in I just got the NV flash thing). Anyways, I sent it in and the same phone came back completely working with a fixed screen. I think when they get it they hook it up with a factory cable and flash it back to stock with the SBK, which we don't even have access too. Just send it in for warranty saying it has software problems, and I can almost guarantee you it will come back working.

Possible he does with motorola. OP there is a tool on motorola website to see if its under warranty. Maybe give that a shot.
Bro do some reseatch that error message is a soft brick I believe I ran into a similar issue when I first roote it last year
Just thought I would weigh in that I received this same error code after an attempted SBF flash of zomgunlock-lite.sbf, and thought all hope was lost, but then I found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27158667&postcount=153
The instructions there helped me un-brick my phone, and I'm a happy camper once again

if your really desperate, you could try smashing the screen in the bottom left, which would mean they wouldnt be able to see the ROOTED, but that would ruin your whole digitiser, meaning your 'touch'screen would just be a 'screen' and smashed one at that :silly: (not recommended:laugh

You need to flash back to stock thru lgflash. When in download mode it will show rooted, run the tool, go back to download and back to stock. And under settings will show unrooted. I have already done it a few times.

Use that guide. I've used it a few times already.
Will vzw charge you full rate? I would assume not, as i can't imagine them looking anywhere else besides under settings and download mode screen.
The first time you are in the download mode it will show rooted. After flashing back to stock, go back to download mode it will show stock.

I hope not, but they'd send it back to the factory for refurbing, they do a more intensive scan, but I doubt they'd do a massive, if this is 100% legit this wouldn't really leave any trace. VS980

So does that mean that your root status in download mode has returned to normal? I just bought my G2 and I'm hesitant to root it because of what appears to be an irreversible consequence.

I think I got lucky, very very lucky. If you're worried about not being able to return it, don't root it until you're sure, then and only after you're happy with it root it.

Hi Guys,
Anyone successfully got rid of this? i've been running Catacalysm with elementalx with no issues. But suddenly i wanted to try layers and one of the layer i tried made me to loop at colorful dots screen that turn into android. But it never turned to android and didn't boot.
i tried to restore nandroid, flash catacalysm again etc., but nothing worked. Finally i had to flash all the factory image (from bootloader to vendor) again. then restored the latest data nandroid. i had my finger print set and following http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928 i removed locksettings.db file to successfully get in the system.
however, on every restart i get this error message that my phone has an internal problem and manufacturer to be contacted. I am afraid to flash the nexus 9 fix, as someone reported that its spoiling his touch screen.
Try flashing the vendor img only in fastboot and see if that removes the error message.

Thanks! Easy fix!
Flashing the vendor img didn't work for me.
Is there any other way to do it or do I have to wipe it all and start over?
So, I see that it's based on the build number MMB29X but that's a Nexus 6 build. I have a Nexus 5x. If I flash that vendor image, will it work or mess things up? I've never had to do that before so I'm sort of lost... I'm positive that I downloaded the right build from the CM site. Thanks in advance for the help.

This is the forum for the Nexus 6p. You will have better luck finding the answer to you question somewhere here (Nexus 5x forum). If you have installed an image or zip of any type from anywhere other than that forum (or official google downloads) you are probably going to have a bad day. Good luck.

With a file browser, head to /System/build.prop and look for this line "ro.build.description" and your system software should be listed after the Android version. I believe this is also listed in Settings/About Phone. You can view which Vendor you have installed in /Vendor/build.prop. Make sure both match up each month when you update.

Fingerprint Not Responding

I updated my SmG935a to the latest firmware (pl2) via Odin, and when my phone booted up, I got a message saying that my "fingerprint scanner is not responding try again later" I've tried everything. Hopefully someone knows what is happening I really want that feature back. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Your bootloader is locked. So that would mean you can't get a custom rom. You could however go back to a previous version of stock firmware. Install that one. And see upon setup if the fingerprint my works when setting up the lock screen. If it doesn't respond it's probably a hardware fault.
Would you get a new or refurbished one. Don't know. Call Sammy and ask

If Knox has not been tripped. So of it says 0x0 instead of 0x1. And you are in your warranty period. Then you should do a clean install. Totally clean. Just to be sure. Remove the SD card. And try again. If it still says failed. Then I should contact the retail store where you got it. If device says faulty finger print sensor I would get it fixed. u bought a expensive phone. It should work. An error is en error for a reason.

No harm,no foul,we've all done similar on at least one occasion.
You're a good man for offering to help ! :good:
Any help with that?
I am also awaiting an answer.
My last 2 Samsung phones had issues and I needed to Odin back to stock for warranty exchange at T-Mobile.
So I'm holding off on rooting till we have something of the sort for the v20.
Using Odin to flash my s7e back to stock while having severe screen issues saved my butt.
I'm on JoD for reference, and needed to switch phones at a brick and mortar.
Side note : loving the blooming development for this device.
Thanks for that, all parties concerned.

Does this unroot method work for the sprint variant? I am stock unrooted on the build the phone came out of the box with, and waiting until rooting isn't a one-way street to take the plunge. If it does, are you 100% certain that it had been used in sprint v20s successfully?
That thread specifically says H918. So no.

Here's hoping it's taken care of. Sprint didn't used to be such a **** when it came to bootloaders. Anyways, I appreciate all the hard work the devs have been doing. Can't wait until I get the chance to experience it. With a stable 200mhz overclock, there's no functional difference between the snapdragon 820 and the snapdragon 821.
Do any of the posted methods work to restore the VS995 variant to stock?
I really want to go ahead and root it (and yes, have disabled updates so still run 12A since I knew VZW was going to be evil and patch it) but I'm very hesitant to do so without a way to restore to stock. Is it one of those things that's just a matter of time, or is there a substantial likelihood it may never be possible?
