It has been about 20 days. Has anyone got an opinion on whether I should go back and add the insurance for 100? I am in Canada, so it isn't a quick trip.
I'm actually seeing some hard spots that look like dirt on the screen but I suspect the are the coating wearing off.
Seems this is fixed in newer versions of the phone.
Any thoughts on extended warranty and/or the screen?

Check SquareTrade.com see if they offer warranty service to Canada. It's cheaper and better than in store warranties.

I dont recommended the Best Buy insurance, maybe its just but ive had nightmares when it comes to filing a warranty claim with them, They just try and give you the run around
How much is the Best Buy insurance? They didn't offer it to me, and I probably would have said no, but I see people say $99/$100 even though checking the Best Buy website just now shows it at $169 for 2 years. That's an awful lot for a insurance that doesn't cover loss/theft.

It's legit. They reimubursed me full retail value for a water damaged iphone. I could tell they didnt want to and tried to be shady about it but at the time the way their contract was worded they had no choice.
I didnt take it personally because I only paid like $50 for the contract and for them to pay $600 out on a device that cost me $200 out of pocket surely annoyed them.
Well when I looked at it, the only difference between the two plans is that the BB plan doesn't specifically state they insure full immersion in liquid where Square Trade does. Drop your Nexus in the ocean then your effed on the BB plan, but not on Square's.
As far as the pricing, it is $9.99 a month and you can only add it within the first 30 days (same as SquareTrade). So the Best Buy model is basically double, however you do have the flexibility to stop paying BB if for instance you buy another phone at any time where as if you use SquareTrade you've already paid for all of your two years regardless of how long you own or wish to protect that specific phone.
I chose the Best Buy Black Tie simply based upon convenience of getting a new phone quicker, though I'm not certain how that works, it just appears to me that it would/could be same day?
Also apparently you can do the Black Tie protection online as well so that's a possibility for the OP specifically.

Actually you can receive a prorated REFUND on your SquareTrade warranty ANY TIME you want if you sell the phone or don't want the warranty anymore, you can also transfer it to another user!

So they gave you a really hard time? My phone isnt past its 30 days but I have a dim back button and compared to my best friends wife's phone, the screen is really gray and banded. Also the platinum case scratched it and either way I want to replace it. I have the black tie protection and paid close to six hundred for the phone and 35 for the scratchy case and another 30 for the invisible shield. It sucks that I want to repalce the phone yet again but for the 700 I've shelled out on this thing, it should at least be perfect from the start.

The other stuff, yeah, exchange the phone for a bad backlit button or wonky display, but I don't get the platinum case thing. That's your fault, or the case maker's, not Samsung's.
You purchased a 3rd party case which was poorly designed and it damaged your phone's back and think that Samsung/Best Buy are to blame and should have to replace your phone for it?
Isn't that a bit like saying that if you bought a Ford, then slapped on an aftermarket strap-on luggage rack or bike carrier that scratched the paint that Ford should have to let you exchange the car? An extreme example, but the same concept.
Sounds kind of outrageous, doesn't it?
Unless of course scratches on the battery plate are covered as a repairable item under your black tie warranty, which I doubt.
The case has scratched the bezel so that's not easily repaired I wouldn't think.
Also, I agree its not Sammy's fault for the scratches but the other stuff yes. Also, the phone is sold exclusively by best buy and the case is best buys line of cases, the only one out until now. I wouldn't feel bad at all using the all inclusive (minus loss or theft) black tie thing that I pay for. If they won't let you even use it that's just free money for them and makes it a scam.

Yeah, if the extended warranty covers stuff like scratches, go for it. Those warranties are almost 100% profit for the seller.
OK, kudos to best buy. They have been awesome to me with the n's, especially with what so.e might think is paranoia. After the case scratches and banding I exchanged mybphone for another. They didn't hassle me at all and after everything I would surely buy from them again. They were great. Unfortunately even though best buy online said they were tmo vendor, they are not. The last phone they had didn't have the creased glass, so I took it. Seems like my last phone was a gem. This one seems more washed out but im tired of fighting. After all the wrangling. It seems there's no such thing as a perfect phone, at least after my g1. A lot of the problems can be blamed on the rush to get gingerbread out for this phone.

I went to exchange mine after seeing the crease in the glass isnt supposed to be there, of the 24 devices my local store had, every one had it.

Well I have to hand it to best buy mobile. Not to rag on the parent company but the mobile employees are a cut above normal best buy. Even the ones in the store are a separate entity like magnolia. Since my last post I have returned my phone two more times. The dim back button led to a new one with a dead pixel. The only problem I had was that they claimed that its one replacement per 30 day period. They still helped me out and got me a new one. They seem to genuinely care and gave excellent customer service, even with a picky person like myself.
Unfortunately this store had an entire batch of creased glass screens. I took one anyway as I had to drive a long way to find one that activated tmo. I did this because the other ones in the area were the ones with min availability. They also told me that the ones they had at the place I got mine were their second batch of phones which made me believe they would be less problematic. This one seems OK but the keyboard is acting strange. Its been less than 24hours since I put on my ghost armor so hopefully the sensitivity is just temporarily affected. My last one had the zagg one which was much thicker and had no sensitivity problems so I'm optimistic that this one will clear up.
I also learned that you need to ensure that the place you do an exchange with needs to correctly transfer your black tie protection if you do an in store 30 day exchange. I learned mine was still pegged to my very first one and they had to call up geek squad and fix the problem so that if I did use the warranty that I could actually make a claim.
Has anyone else been told that you can only do one exchange?

So my wife wanted to shove her iphone microsim into my phone because her phone was out of battery, and for some reason the micro sim tray got caught in the sim connector slot. I was not able to get it out gently. I finally yanked it out, and I now broke off a tiny bit of the connector.
I have found this http://www.parts4repair.com/samsung-galaxy-note-sim-connector/ for sale and was wondering if I should attempt to do this myself.
Has anyone had any experience with this repair? I have been trying to look for something online that features a tear down, but I have not found anything that involves the sim connector.
i couldn't stop laughing...last week my wife tried to do same with my note, thankfully i had seen her and stopped it..
better give it to service center, enough damage is already done
Sounds like it was you who wrecked it by yanking. Don't blame your wife!

Hah Dude! I had the EXACT SAME THING. The goddamn thing got stuck, i got mad and ripped it out. The pin (middle on) broke off and then the phone did not recognize my sim card.
I was so mad cuz it was the first day I had the phone.
Anyway, just return it to samsung repair center.. they fixed mine for free.
State something in the lines of ''When I placed the simcard I noticed it wasn't recognized. When I removed the simcard, it turned out the middle pin was missing''
Multibillion dollar company, they won't look any further and replace ur phone.
Goodluck.

I did the same thing on my old Nexus S and sent it to Samsung to repair. Got it back last week. I was messing with my phones and switching Sims and got frustrated and yanked it out therefore breaking the Sim tray connectors.

LOL you guys...
What did you expect ?
Just go ahead and send your phone back to Samsung and your wife (soon to ex-wife because of "random" kidnapping) off to Siberia where she'll learn NEVER to touch a mans phone... ever (unless it's to say how big it is then promptly put it down).
on a side note I heard transporting human bodies is quite cheap, as long as you ship in bulk
Hehe I am not blaming the wife per se, I have gone and bought the replacement sim connector. It's less than a buck, so I just bought 2 just in case it happens again.
I am in a country where service center or warranties are just not possible. So its pretty much diy and buyer beware.
If I get it and don't stuff it up, will update with photos.

oh sure the phone is easy to disassemble but replacing the sim tray is not as easy as it is being talked about on here...
if samsung wont do it... pm me i can fix it..ive already done 2 from members on xda and i promise it was as good or better than samsung....
and for those who think its like older galaxys that was a separate unit that plugged in..not this one its soldered to the board and it is in quite tight quarters...
just trying to help avoid a catastrophe and give someone an option that might not have been there... btw i have 22 yrs board level repair experience just for any that might be thinking i didnt know what i was talking about...

I nearly had the same happen to me the other day ! obviously quite a common occurrence. I was removing the Micro SIM holder, it got halfway out and then the Micro SIM fell out of the holder and the Holder was catching on something - fortunately I guessed what was going on here so was VERY careful - I managed to get the SIM back into the holder then slot the whole thing back in , then remove it again (easy once the SIM was in place )
Bloody glad I was on the ball and didn't just give it a sharp tug now I've read this !
samsung service center location in US
Hi,
Can you tell me where the Samsung service location is? I am in SF bay area. I have the same problem on my international version (N7000). I would rather have it repaired at a Samsung location instead of some cell phone shops that only know how to replace iphone screens.
$40 seems very reasonable.
Thanks in advance.

Screen cracked at the top corner now theres a spider crack all over the top of the screen with a couple of cracks that run down to the middle phone still works, but the crack is killing me on the inside hehe. Now funny part is i bought the defender for it the day i bought it cause i knew it was too weak to handle a hard drop, and i've been checking the mail for it for 2 weeks now. then she comes and does that just the day before it arrived. After crying inside a while and just wanting to punch someone i managed to start looking at options.
checked online and the parts cost $240-$290, bell and best buy can fix it by it'll cost at least $325. I also bought the best buy protection plan (12.99/month). am thinking I should be able to find some cheap non-samsung parts for much cheaper than that, replace the screen and give it to best buy for an exchange as long as something is wrong with it (not sure wt though )

Only thing I could think of is they might do it different over there in Canada. I think that is where the OP is from.
Just posted about this in the other cracked screen thread...
"Missed my damn pocket on Saturday night, and dropped mine on the garage floor. Got a small crack about as wide a finger nail from the right side of the ear piece curving up to the edge. Which is strange, cause the only other mark on the phone is a small scuff at the bottom of the back cover. But, I have BB insurance, so its in being fixed with no deductible! I've dropped my epic a few times in the last year, and not scratch on the screen. Makes me wonder what they changed in the formula from og gorilla glass to gorilla glass 2.
As much as I don't want to add all the bulk to it, the Otterbox Defender, or Trident Kraken may be in its future...

If I dropped my girl's laptop, phone, crashed her car (or w/e) and we weren't pretty much married, I would cover it to get whatever it is fixed.
I dropped my friend's motorcycle helmet while handing it to him several years ago. he didn't have a good grip and as I passed it, it slipped into his hand from mine and fell to the concrete floor. it was still intact, but had nice bruising from the concrete. I apologized and got him a new one within a week...

The PEP from Best Buy in Canada is different than the one in the US. It does not cover physical damage, liquid damage, basically they call it "stupidity". I'm not calling it that, that's how they word it. PEP from Best Buy only extends the manufacturer's warranty. So instead of getting refurbs, you get brand new replacements. And you can pick a different phone if you want. I posted in another thread indicating that no carrier or 3rd party store in Canada offers insurance anymore. At least not that I'm aware of. It sucks because Best Buy charges $12.99 + taxes per month for the PEP. I have 2 PEP's from Best Buy. On one of my PEP's, I already got 3 brand new replacement phones. On my
2nd one I got one brand new replacement in which I chose a different model.
So both already paid itself.

Wow I can't imagine trying to sell that to customers. It's already hard enough trying to get people to get the 9.99 plan that replaces the phone with no deductible. Customers say "if I break the phone I'll buy a new one for 200, not realizing the phone is $650.

I have owned two 6p's within 60 days of release last year and both bent. I used a very sturdy case (could have been part of the issue?).
I tested "bent" by placing the 6p, screen down (& up too) on my kitchen table (multiple spots) and it wobbled. Both phones did this within a week or ownership.
I'm considering trying one again and wanted to know...
Do you keep your 6p in your pocket from time to time and if so is it bent? Would you mind doing the "wobble" test (lol) and letting me know?
I loved the phone and miss the dev community around it.
Your are not alone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/bent-days-t3241999
Mine isn't bent luckily.
I wished I didn't read this. Now I think my phone did bent too. If I put it on a flat surface on the screen side, it isn't perfectly flat. I do keep my phone in my pocket. So it gets tight sometimes. I wish I didn't saw it. But I'll just keep using the phone like I used to, everything is still working very well and still love the phone the way it is.
Mine is in my pocket at work the entire day other then pulling it out for texts, email and web surfing. Had it over a month now and no bending issues. I have a MIME Ghost Glass and a Spigen Rugged Armor case on it within 3 days of getting the phone. Sorry that you've had issues. I do have large pockets (khaki shorts) so there is no stress on my phone in that sense and never put my phone in my back pocket.

This is a great point; tight pockets will do this (almost too big of a phone anyways for more fitted pant).
Although I know some of us may have to, I have never put a phone in my back pants pocket. On occasion I will put them in my front pocket but then I don't wear skin-tight clothes. I tend to wear button-down or casual shirts with a front top pocket which suits me well.

I've had mine since the first week of December. I never use a case and always carry it in my left pocket. It's still straight as the day I bought it. Does not wobble. I don't know why mine is not affected but I am sure there a lot that don't have bending. At this point in my ownership though I have seen enough reports of bending to say that it definitely is a risk of buying the 6p. Get Nexus protect or squaretrade or whatever to cover yourself. Or just wait and see what HTC makes this year.

Sheesh! I'm hoping that by ordering one with a later build date, these challenges w/quality control are not a factor.
Is your current unit good now? What is the build date?
11/13 is my build date but I have another new one on order since best buy and other retailers are selling with $75 discounts so will be curious if a later build date arrives. If it doesn't have a date later than mid December, then we know this sale is intended to move out old inventory.

11/13 is my build date but I have another new one on order since best buy and other retailers are selling with $75 discounts so will be curious if a later build date arrives. If it doesn't have a date later than mid December, then we know this sale is intended to move out old inventory.

I was thinking the same but the gold model was not in stock for the 64gb at best buy (ugh now I see it back in stock!): my prior models were silver so I chose graphite this time.

LOL, same here was just checking on it too
I believe this sale is running for s few weeks and best buy is good with returns: I could order a gold one to compare and return one if not both! Lol
EDIT: I did. So let's see which is the better!
Luckily Best Buy is 2 miles away with easy on/off from highway.
I'll also report on any bent issues for those who are curious/worried.

Guess I'm lucky. I bought a 32GB Graphite 6p soon after they came out from Google and paid $450 usd and put my thin little Spigen case on and a no glare screen protector on day 1 and I have a perfect device. I've flashed it about 400 times and have no color issues or bending whatsoever. I don't wear tight jeans but not baggy either but I do keep my device laying on my desk at work and when I drive I throw it in the dash mount. I keep it out of my pocket when I can because of reading reports of bending.. So far all has been fine. This is RedDoggie from the Gulf Coast, out. (CB radio static sounds in background.) ?

Has anyone tried returning their devices to huawei for a replacement?

My devices were returned to Google directly since they were purchased from them. Fortunately, it was in the time period between Black Friday and Xmas where they offered extended return periods until almost the end of January, so I lucked out, and had a month or more to make decisions.
With Best Buy, I will have 14 days to make a decision but now that I know what to look for, determination is now limited to a few days if not a few hours!
So I dropped my phone at Whataburger today and it fell facedown and the whole screen has like hairline cracks (but no bumps whatsoever). I want to exchange it because of my damn OCD, it just bothers me. Is there a way to take it to T-Mobile and say that something is defective and get a free replacement since I have warrenty? I was thinking of saying that I was putting on an Otterbox case, and when I tried to take it off, the phone screen cracked...or something along those lines. I was googling and I read that I had to pay up to $199 to replace the screen from Samsung directly. Any other options? I'm a broke college student barley making it and I don't want to make my mom pay for it. Right now I'm on the phone with my mom, and I keep on hearing the screen crack, and I'm afraid the screen is just gonna shatter at any moment, or while it's in my pocket
Bro if you are a college student what are you doing with an 800$ phone m8? Lol

You are asking for advice on how to con T-Mobile, yet clearly admitting to being at fault. Sorry, my advice is to suck it up. Slap a screen protector on and learn from your mistakes.

I had been saving up to buy a better, faster, and more useful phone that would help out in my studies
What is wrong with you, dude? Do you really think T-Mobile would even buy your Otterbox excuse? Stop trying to scam people and own up to your own mistakes.
I don't think they will cover for it even if you have warranty since it's physical damage. If you have insurance then that will be a different story. If I were you, I'll just find a local store to try and replace it. If not, probably have to suck it up with a protector.
Sorry this happened to you, mistakes happens.
I'm also a college student so I know the struggles.
Good luck!

How long have you had the phone for? If it has been less than 30 days, you can still purchase squaretrade. If you used an amex card to purchase it in the past 90 days, you could apply for purchase protection through them.
Also FYI, the cost of screen replacement from Samsung is $269.xx. Source: I cracked my screen too . Thankfully I already had squaretrade, so my out of pocket was $99.
I wanted a faster to phone to improve my studies....said no one ever.
Give me a break....you can get a part-time job and earn some cash and buy a new phone or repair it.
Filing an insurance claim would probably be the cheapest, legitimate way of getting it fixed.

Damn...well how would I go about getting the insurance? Would it have to be through Samsung?? Yeah I'm going to go to the store tomorrow and try to get it replaced or see what can be done. Thank you, it sucks that such an expensive phone would get it's screen broken easily :/

Thank you for actually typing out a reply that will help me out unlike some others here. I've had the phone since launch day. I purchased it in the store through credit card, so I doubt I can do that. So basically I'd have to get the screen replaced? I can't tell T-Mobile that my phone is faulty? (Because legitametly, I've been having problems with the speaker, and the phone has been messing up quite a bit way before I dropped it). I think they should supply a refurbished phone, no? That is way to expensive to get the screen replaced by the way...but it's worth it. I was thinking of getting squaretrade, but I didn't think that this would happen to my phone since I had a case on it.

How would I go about doing that? I've never done that, as usually I just take it to T-Mobile whenever I have problems with my phone.
Clear nail polish if they really are micro cracks it should fill them in and not brake the phone. If the cracks are all the way through or huge it won't help as much though. Also it's only 200 to get the screen fixed. Go get a bar tending job you will make that money in one night. Grow up don't ask your mom for money, or try to rip off tmobile

If you have insurance on your phone, you have to contact the insurance company.
I'm on the original Jump program, so it's part of Jump, for me. There's usually a deductible though.

Cracked screen through insurance is 175, girlfriend dropped hers. If you didn't have the cracks, you could of called t-mobile and did a exchange where they would send you a refurb first and return your phone after receiving the refurb. If you this with your current phone, they will find out and charge your account so don't try it.
My girlfriend did the same, her crappy Caseology case did nothing but look pretty.
T-Mobile insurance the deductible is 175 for the S7E.

I don't know if the store would side with you on that (claiming that there were other problems before the screen cracked). Even then, perhaps they would try fixing those other problems without addressing the cracked screen. Bottom line, a cracked screen is not covered under the standard Samsung warranty so you'll have to pay to get that fixed either way. Good luck :good:
