Verizon WiFi Sharing option - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Posting this in the general area because the Verizon specific forum is a ghost town...
Verizon was kind enough to remove the option for turning on WiFi Sharing from the Mobile Hotspot and Tethering menu. Does anyone know if there is some option for bringing it back or turning the function on? Maybe a system flag that can be set with ADB or a hidden intent that could be triggered with a shortcut?
Or, did Verizon rip out the guts to do this like they did with the Samsung browser by removing system level libraries...

I would also like to know this information.

Fox Fi works on Verizon... I'm using S7E with Marshmallow on the Verizon network in the U.S.

[Q] Is Sprint Firewalled--Or Are There On-board Switches I can Deselect Security

Sprint Galaxy 4S
I use Sprint's Hotspot on my unrooted phone to view a Java operated stock market viewer on my laptop (Yahoo Market Tracker). The program worked fine until I switched from Galaxy 2s to 4s. The program runs fine through cable broadband wi-fi at home on two laptops. I have identical laptop security settings for the home wifi and the Sprint HotSpot. There has always been enough bandwith to run the program from hotspot before. Sprint will not help me with the problem, and refuses to tell me what the issue is. Is it likely to be security settings on the phone itself?
If so, any help accessing and changing these setting would be greatly appreciated.
Do you PAY for Sprint's hotspot service?

Cool. If you are paying for the HotSot service, on an unrooted/unmodifed device, Sprint IS responsible for your service(s) or lack of.
Only issue I would see would be that your laptop is blocking something from the tether/hotspot. Do you have a third party firewall/AV blocking something? Maybe try disabling it for a moment and see if that works.
You may need to add specific DNS to your laptop (to get around Sprints) like Googles (8.8.8.8). But since Sprint and Yahoo are friendly I don't know if that would make a difference.
Good luck.
Thanks!
This should give me more leverage in negotiating with sprint. On the laptop (windows 8.1), the security settings are identical for the hotspot and my home broadband wifi (and I have tried with all security off). Since the program ran fine under the hotspot on galaxy s2, I was thinking something was blocking the program within the S4 itself such as a router setting or some other obnoxious ware Sprint puts on the phone.

I searched around before deciding to make a new thread. Did not see anything specific to what I had a question about, unless it is buried deep in another thread.
Is there a suggested de-bloat list for the Verizon Note 3 running on the OB6 Lollipop firmware? For NON-ROOTED phones.
What I have turned off so far has not caused any issues seen yet.
I would like to make sure that the packages that track data usage are turned off, as well as any apps that report back to Verizon.
Would greatly appreciate if someone could post even a partial list to get this started.
I would also like to add that I am using the free version of FoxFi and tether is working!
You install FoxFi, then when you try to check the start tether box for the first time, it will make you setup a lock screen pin/pattern. After that it will install a certificate.
Once you have that done, when you try to enable tether again, it pops up a message that will take you to the Default built in tether. Once you click to enable that, tether starts working.
Here is something odd I noticed.
You can go back into the FoxFi app once you are tethered and working, then turn off tether WITHIN the FoxFi app. The default hotspot app remains enabled and continues to work.
Anyone else notice this? Also wondering if the FoxFi data limit is still imposed after you turn the tether off in its app.

Unless you are on a grandfathered unlimited data plan, Verizon's Hotspot should already be usable even without WiFi. Last I saw...all Verizon tiered data plans included hotspot.

Unlocking wifi sharing on Verizon S7

As the title states, I am looking for a way to use the "wifi sharing" feature that the Galaxy S7 and S7E's come with. Verizon appears to have not liked the idea of us using our phones as wifi repeaters, to tether a wifi signal from one to another. To be clear, I am not discussing a mobile Hotspot to tether your Mobile Data to another device, I am talking about sending a wifi connection from my S7 to another device.
Does anyone havery a work around? I am currently rooted and running stang5litre's V2 ROM. Thanks in advance.
Would likely require a framework edit or replacement (unlikely it's an easy swap) from another carriers rom. There's a tiny chance it's a system.prop or build.prop property that you could edit with a root file editor but I doubt it :/ Out of curiosity what on earth is your usecase for this? I ask this as a genuine question as someone in IT who uses hot spot all the time and I believe Sterling's rom has that enabled on non-tethered plans?
I would also like to know this information.
Could you explain "wifi sharing" a little better?
I have had Samsung phones for a while and have never seen that feature.
Wifi is either connected to a hotspot / router or peer to peer adhoc.
Are you wanting to have a internet connection from cellular or wifi or not at all?
Tagged for continued interest.
I just want to know how you rooted your phone...

Samsung S7 Verizon WIFI Sharing

Has anyone been able to find a way to turn this feature back on while rooted? Any apps that offer this? Not talking about sharing 4g/3g internet, talking about sharing my wifi with other devices.
S7 had this feature but Verizon wanted to disable it for some reason.

Hey man did this work? I haven't gotten my S8 in the mail yet so I can't test it...
Mobile Hotspot and Tethering is available on the T-Mobile version by default, both in the settings menu and in quick launch
I have the verizon model and the hotspot option is available and working. Was not hidden.
Available in the settings and quick settings in the AT&T S8

This was a pleasant surprise for me, since AT&T had it removed from the quick settings on my S6.
Tethering Switch
by the way, if you want a really good "Hotspot Widget" that ACTUALLY works...and I literally tried probably 90% on the Play store and ONE did finally work...
Tethering Switch
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.gr.java_conf.taketake.tethering&hl=en
DID work. It doesn't bring you to the HotSpot Settings first, and then you would have to turn on the HotSpot manually...this does it quickly, shows that it is enabled.

I tried this but didn't work for me with AT&T. I have a Tethering shorcut, but it takes you to the hotspot settings to turn it on manually like you mentioned. So I was excited to try this app out, however after I installed it, it just says it's Enabled (but it's not) and then when I tap it again it says Enabled again, not Disabled. Unless I go into my settings and turn it on, then the app will say Disabled (but doesn't really). So I guess I'll stick with what I have for now.
Hey I ended up returning my S8. I apologise for putting this info out about the Tethering app. It works perfectly on all my other ROMS. It is the only "widget" type app that worked on my LG G5 on stock rooted FW on MM. Anyway, I am not sure if you guys got Tethering to work on Verizon or whatever, but I had no issues with it on T-Mobile... However this app didn't work on T-Mobile on my S8 even.
Buy from Samsung?

You didn't by any chance purchase the phone directly from Samsung did you? I had the exact same problem with an S8 purchased directly from Samsung (got the free Gear VR promo) and I have Sprint.
There was no hotspot option anywhere in the setup menus. And of course, I did not notice this until 2 weeks later when I was on a trip. The hotel WiFi was messed up and I needed to use hotspot. It's not that it did not work, there was no option at all in Setup for Hotspot and Tethering.
I talked to Sprint, took it to a Sprint store for help, and talked to Samsung tech support. Nothing they all tried fixed it. Both Sprint and Samsung suggested the phone might be defective and I should pursue getting a replacement. That didn't make sense to me because WiFi and Cell Data were working fine, and hotspot is just software.
My fix was to do a full Factory Reset and then set it all up again. Tedious, but when it came back up, the Hotspot and Tethering option were there and it works perfectly now.
Recent update messed it up again?
Tried the adb method of Get/Push revealing Hotspot via Quick Tiles. Didn't work.
Any other ideas for regaining hotspot on the device? Without rooting?
Current date: Jan 7 2018.
i have same problem too, waiting for update
I tried that https://www.xda-developers.com/thre...ickbaity-tricks-for-your-new-galaxy-s8-or-s8/ but I cant even try itcoz I get "because an app etc about some permission", I tried to disable so many cant figure it out
So how does one Quick Toggle Tether? I use it all the time in my car
