Today I got a shiny new Nexus 7 32GB and was eager to get using it. Knowing of the 4.1.2 update I decided to get that installed ASAP and enjoy the benefits.
I went to Settings/ About Tablet/ System Update
There it appeared, 4.1.2 update available, so it downloaded the update and I clicked Restart & Install.
It rebooted and about a third of the way across the progress bar, it stopped, showing a green android lying on its back with a red triangle and exclamation mark on it.
I've tried updating through this method several times with the same problem every time. Does anyone know why this could be and a possible solution?
I would prefer to install this update through the device if possible without installing CWM Recovery or any other extra recovery tools.

I have also recently received my shiny new Nexus 7 32gb and have been unable to update to Android 4.1.2 - the update downloads, seems to install, but after restarting Settings still shows I've got 4.1.1.
Anyone got any idea what is going wrong?

I found a solution. The boot loader in stock 4.1.1 is different to those in the updates to 4.1.2 and 4.2 (apparently, I'm not 100% sure) and this prevents a straight forward update. As far as I can tell, the only way around it is to flash the Google stock image for 4.1.2 or 4.2.
Thankfully this is easy to do since you can use this incredibly useful toolkit to do it for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809195
Just read through the instructions and make sure to backup your apps and personal files as you will loose all data!
If you choose to donate it'll let you download and install the latest stock image, 4.2, or you can just flash the stock 4.1.2 image for free and wait for the standard OTA update to reach you (which will now work, I tried it).
I chose to donate as the toolkit is superb and makes everything so much easier when fiddling with custom ROM's and backing up apps, and I prefer flashing the complete stock image of a new version rather than updating.
Hope this works out for you and helps anyone else who gets the same problem!

I don't think this is a solution that I want to try on my brand new Nexus 7. Clearly there is something wrong with it so I think I'll return it to PCWorld for a replacement. Though I might try a 'factory reset' first and see if after that the 4.1.2 update will install properly.
It's worth a try!

That's fair enough, I tried a factory reset first myself to no avail. If you do get your nexus replaced, please let me know if the update works!

You'r taking it back because it wont update due to the bootloader?
Thats jokable.
No offence but it is.

I'm considering taking it back because it is not updating as it is supposed to, as it is designed to. A message comes up on the screen that a system update is available. I go through the procedure to download and install said update. The update doesn't install, though the system now says that it is up-to-date.
Bootloader? I don't even know what that is. I don't know that the problem is caused by the bootloader and neither do you. It may be a joke to you but to me its just a pain in the neck.

obviously the guy doesn't have working knowledge of ADB, rooting/unlocking or any other development terms we use to describe what we are doing to our devices.
The only jokable premise here is some nerd in his mother's basement thumbing his nose at random people because the world he lives in is so narrow it couldn't possibly comprehend the existence of someone honestly asking for advice and then doing the only logical thing he can think of to do as a consumer unfamiliar with a product at a developmental standpoint.
Not everyone wants to root. And not everyone who owns a Nexus has background experience in tinkering with electronics. I've been rooting since my Dinc and I actually want to keep mine as stock as possible. I find more problems come to me when I start messing with the device instead of just leaving it alone.

Check the android development subsection on methods for rooting your device. From there, install a custom recovery, and research the process of flashing custom ROMs.
That's the gist of it. I would recommend spending a couple hours reading thoroughly before jumping in to it. There are countless threads around here answering any questions you will have. Research them.
First I want to say I'm not a rocket surgeon, I've done this successfully before but I've also bricked a device (not the GS4) this will void your warranty and there is the possibility that your phone may become unusable. Just be careful, have fun and read up!

That link will help you out with getting root access. After you have root access download Rom Toolbox from the play store. After you'vedownloaded and gone through the introduction you will be in the main menu, go Tools>Rom Management>Manage>Flash Recovery. A few options for recoveries will probably pop up I now use TWRP it is a great touch interface but in the past I have used CWR and it is fine as well, it's all personal preferance but for the most part my directionswill be for TWRP. Click one and it will flash it and reboot. If you ever want to get into recovery after this you simply hold down volume up and home while rebooting or powering up (there will be blue text in the top corner of the splash screen when button combo is successful)
Next you will want to look through the xda forums for your device, in the original developement section you will find threads labeled [ROM] anything that is built from CM10.1 (Cyanogenmod) or AOSP (Android open source project) or AOKP (Android open kang project) will all have a very stock Android, minimalist interface. You download one of these along with the Gapps files (google addons) and put it on your SD card where you can easily find it later.
Reboot into recovery and MAKE A BACKUP! It will be in the backup and restore option. Then you will want to wipe some of the partitions the steps for that are a little bit recovery specific, but I recommend a full wipe if you are going from touch wiz to source built. That means I would wipe /system, /data, cache, and dalvik cache (in TWRP it's easy just put x in the box beside those options in advanced wipe)
Now go back to main menu and click install, navigate to the ROM you put on your sd card select it and swipe to flash. Then do the same with Gapps. After all is done and it is reported as installation successful reboot the phone. First boot might hang for a while on the boot animation after the splash screen (some times it's over 10 minutes) be patient it will eventually fire up.
If something goes wrong or you don't like it you can always boot back into recovery and Restore the old software with the backup (nandroid) you made n before flashing.
Hopefully this was helpful.
You would think be able to update it as soon as google releases it. You will have to wait for it to be ported over. This is not a nexus. You will have ever to wait for developers also if it is the exynos device there will always be issues that can't be fixed with aosp roms. S

Well I used TWRP to install a boot.img for my Nexus 7. Turns out I downloaded the wrong file, and now I can't get my device past the Google Screen after I rebooted it.
So far I've downloaded another boot.img and tried using that to solve my problem, that didn't work; it would end up stuck on bootloader screen frozen or saying "booting modified img"
I've used almost every recommended solution on Nexus Toolkit and all of them did nothing to help, Including downloading stock images, Restoring stock kernel, etc.
I don't know if perhaps I could have the build number wrong for the toolkit, but I'm not able to see what build it currently is since I can't get pass the google logo. I've done almost everything and now I am completely clueless as to what I can do to fix this. Any help would be deeply appreciated.
Had a similar prob the other days and i solve it fro here

Post number 8 helped me because wugs toolkit has an option to return stock on a bricked device...
Stop relying on toolkits and learn to use fastboot and adb. It helps tremendously when you are having problems. It also prevents you from just getting clicky and selecting every option in hope that something fixes it. Follow the directions in the sticky on flashing a factory ROM/return to stock. It has all the information you need to fix your problem.
Sent from my Nexus 7(2012) that has zero issues.
OK so I rooted this thing a long while back with the help of someone who i no longer talk to. I'm not entirely sure what all I have on it. Basically I'd like to either flash a newer rom on it or simply put it back to factory with a factory image of I think its 5.0.2 may be the newest one or at least the newest one i could find.
When trying to just put a new rom on it it always fails. SOmeone told me because the factory image is running the original android version that came with it and the new roms need to have the factory more recent. Like I said I dont fully understand all of this. I'm not a computer idiot, just havn't researched or spent much time learning about rooting and what not.
ANyhow I've got Team Win Recovery Project v 2.4.4.0 on it. I dont know how to get to the factory image or rom to update it. I'd post a picture but I'm not allowed to yet apparently.
Basically need some direction on how to get either a new rom working or just throw the whole thing back to factory.
search for "nexus root toolkit" it'll do everything you need

I already have a bootloader on there from a rootkit tool when the tablet was first released. Would a new toolkit just overwrite everything on it, or woudl it clash with the bootloader already installed?
Hello everyone! I am new to this forum and quite a lot happy to be a part of XDA:laugh:
So here is my problem...
I have a Nexus 7 2012 and I do various experiments on my tablet like hacking through softwares and installing custom roms and all but I dont do any kind of modding
I had previously installed SlimKat custom rom 4.4.4 but after sometime it gave me some errors which I wanted to eliminate and so I decided that I would flash the stock rom
I used the Nexus Root Toolkit but it did not help. It gave me unwanted errors
I mean the first 7 to 8 times I flashed the Rom it gave me no error but my nesus would was always stuck in boot loop
I tried every available method to remove the bootloop situation but now I am totally hopeless(98%)
the rest 2% hope depends to situations : Whether the developers would provide me other usefull information or I would send it to a shop
These Things I should let you know before you provide a solution:
1. I have tried flashing from both methods , i.e, the root toolkit method and through the SDK method
2. even in the root toolkit i have tried it by both softbricked condition and normal condition
3. Right now my main problem is that everytime it tries to flash the rom the cmd says some kind of failiures like No such device or address and Invalid Argument and all
4. Methods like changing the ports or using another cable, I have tried already
Thank You in Advance, brothers:good:
