I have a rooted Verizon Note 3 running stock 4.4.2. Since rooting, I didn't upgrade as it would remove root. I have Safestrap installed.
I want to put new life into it.
1. What is the best way to go about upgrading to latest CyanogenMod?
2. The features on the phone that I care about are a) S-Pen for drawing apps. b) IR Blaster. c) Temperature/Humidity sensors. Would those continue to work?
Because we do not have an unlocked bootloader, and cyanogenmod is based on AOSP and not touchwiz, you're pretty much out of luck at this time. Rooting does not equal unlocking the bootloader. Sorry to disappoint, but I hope this helps explain some things.
Cheers,
B.D.
Bootloader is unlocked you can find the right thread and ask for help anytime.

I just got my Nexus 10 and haven't even turned it on yet. Giving it a nice charge.
So what's the first steps?
With my Galaxy Nexus, the very first thing I did was unlock the bootloader because anyway it wipes the device. Then I rooted it. And then I went along my jolly way. Eventually, months down the line, I installed Bugless Beast.
So what about this tablet? Turn on and unlock bootloader then root? Or do I want to get an OTA first in case it's on 4.2 and needs 4.2.1?
Anything else someone new to the Nexus 10 should know about?
By the way, I choose stability over experimental features. Hence, Bugless Beast on my GNex instead of some of the more feature-filled (but less stable) ROMs.
Thanks for you help!
turn it on --> get your update(s) to 4.2.1 --> unlock bootloader --> root --> install adaway and just leave it. the stock rom is great but i can't live without an adblocker. otherwise just give the developers time, as i said before, the stock rom is great

Exactly what I did
I prefer ROM Toolbox Pro for add blocking many other features that a rooted user will appreciate. I have the pro ver.
ROM Toolbox Lite (free version)

Thanks guys. I'll do exactly that.
I hope we reach the point where ROMs are more stable and less experimental for the Nexus 10.
@jjdevega, Since I like to compartmentalize my tools (I already have a favorite ad blocker, file explorer, titanium backup, etc), ROM toolbox is less useful for me. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I'd recommend just keeping the bootloader unlocked
I like my device to either be completely stock, or custom. Leaving the bootloader unlocked on a stock, non-rooted ROM bothered me quite a bit lol (not sure why; I mean I know leaving the bootloader unlocked doesn't really do anything, but still...), and I would go between custom ROM's and stock a lot, locking and unlocking the bootloader each time too.
Yea, I was planning on leaving it unlocked. Unless I need to return the tablet for warranty purposes, there's no reason to re-lock the bootloader.
Well, actually there are security implications regarding unlocked bootloaders. That's actually why unlocking wipes your device, so that an outsider can't bypass security by unlocking the bootloader and then getting whatever information he/she wants.
Welcome to the note 3 forums. We welcome you as long as you do your job and search before making 1,000,000 new threads.
So,You just got your shiny new note 3 and dont know where to begin?
Well that's ok because, this is the all in one thread.
Lets begin
How do I Root?
That is the common question around here. Im going to simplify this.. Here you go
For 4.3
1.The best and safest way is this method by @evilpotatoman. It does require a little work but in return you do get root Here is the link for That,
2.Another method that is faster, but does not offer busybox with install, nor did it originate from XDA-forums is Here,
For 4.4 Or KitKat
You have to Go to My thread located
Here,
This does root KitKat and provides a custom ROM.
How Do I Install Custom Rom's
First What you should know is that our phone has a locked bootloader. This means that we can not boot kernels. But we still can flash custom rom's Thanks to @Hashcode
To install custom rom's on 4.3, Head over Here,
Another method That i originally created, but does not work as good as safestrap, could be found Here
If you are on KitKat, Then you could either install my KitKat rom or wait for safestrap to be updated.
What Do I Do If I Bricked My Phone? Or if it wont boot?
Well There are 2 methods to get you back to stock and running again.
To Restore back to Jellybean (4.3) Follow this Thread Here
To Restore back to KitKat (4.4.2) Follow this Thread Here
Why are Rom's Based off different Bases & Whats the difference?
A little basic intro
MJ5,MI9 & MI1 Are all 4.3 AT&T Bases
Ml2 Is an international 4.3 Base
MlG is a leaked AT&T 4.4.2 Base
Mj5 Is the latest 4.3 AT&T Base
Ml2 Is the latest international Base
The difference depends on what you need. Right now There are pro's and con's to all bases
Mj5
-Fast Data speeds
-Better indoor Signal
-No Bluetooth internet tethering
Ml2
-NO group messaging
-lower signal in areas
-slower data
-Does have Bluetooth internet tethering
Leaked Kitkat base (MIG)
-Extremely fast
-Newer modem with better signal & speeds
-Safestrap is not yet updated to work with kitkat (But you could still install my 4.4 ROM)
Why is my GPS Crappy and How do i fix it?
This issue is well known with our phone. The main reason is bad software coding.
To fix this issue Flash this fix made by me, in safestrap or manually push the files using root explorer.
4.3-Click Here
4.4-(Coming Soon)
What is "SafeStrap & Why do i have to use it?
Safestrap is our main method of flashing Rom's and could be found Here,
Always WIPE before flashing a new ROM or expect to receive errors. DON'T BE LAZY
Issues with safestrap
-Sometimes the storage is messed up and shows that you are using all your memory, when you really are not.If you use a different app to check, then you should see your real memory usage.
Where are all the kernels located?
Like i stated earlier, We don't have kernels yet, because of our locked bootloader
Where are all the Roms compatible with my phone?
All compatible and ready to install rom's could be found Here
There is currently NO AOSP,CM Based Rom's, So don't ask
What is KNOX and how does it effect me?
KNOX is basically made to **** us. But Samsung calls it security.
KNOX is removed from most custom Rom's. Knox does prevent root apps from working properly and should be removed asap.
How do I transfer My bookmarks from ROM to ROM?
Follow the guide i created Here
Im still working on a list of roms, and cool mods that are compatible with our phone. they will be located in the second post.Mods please sticky this thread
For me, to post mods and roms compatible with our phone
one more
Great information.
Thank you very much.
I have tried your KitKat 4.4.2. Glad to see it is rooted!
Now, it is easy to switch between MJ5 4.3 and MLG 4.4.2 through SafeStrap and Odin.
Wow very nice! Hopefully this will prove helpful.

Awesome work. Me personally Im waiting for SS to be updated but definitely keeping an eye out.
Im curious on one thing. When you discuss Knox and to 'remove it', would freezing this via TB server the same purpose? Also since youve had a go with 4.4, does Samsungs iteration of 4.4 still have the GPS issues or did they fix it? Just curious
Thanks!

Wanting to down grade back to JB rom from KITKAT v2
I Used to be on JB rom 4.3 And I really liked it. But I wanted to upgrade to to KitKat v2 because alot of people said they liked it. After I upgraded to KITKAT 4.4.2 I really did not enjoy it as much JB 2.6. I used to get 35000 score from Antutu Benchmark but now on V2 I get about 30000 score. And I thought the JB 2.6 was setup nicer. I dunno, but what I do know is that I would like to go back to JB 2.6 because I think it was a nicer piece of work. Anyone know where I can find the tutorial to downgrade back to JB 2.6? I thought I seen it before but I cant seem to find it. Thank you for your time.

I am looking to install TWRP on my wife's newly acquired LG G2. I have already rooted it using ioroot22.
I am looking at using adb to install TWRP. Is this recommended? I have seen some things about the newest firmware not being Loki friendly, and needing to downgrade the about or some such.
I just want to make sure I am using the best and most current method.
I have searched both here and elsewhere, but I am still confused. In a nutshell, I want to know:
What is the best method for installing TWRP?
Do I need to downgrade anything first?
What is the easiest way to do this?
I have rooted our previous phones [EVO 3D, one with a locked bootloader and one with an unlocked bootloader), my friend's Droid RAZR, my current Note 3 and my Tab 3. So I'm not entirely new at this. But I haven't used add since my 3VO (wife got the unlocked one). I'm hoping to avoid it if possible. If not, well, I haven't PERMANENTLY bricked any phones so far, so I'll go that route.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Also, should I just wait for the KitKat update for the G2 to even start messing with my wife's phone?
Edit: used FreeGee app, no adb. EASY and headache free.
Mods please close thread. Sorry.

Hello, I've been doing a bit of research on my own, and I haven't found any straight answers. Recently, I downloaded the leaked Verizon Kitkat OS. From what I hear, this is the build I should be staying on. That's great and all, but I was wondering if there is any way for me to be able to root from 4.4.2 and be able to install some custom roms. Sorry if this is redundant in any way to what you guys normally see on here, but I am really confused on where all to start with this rooting process.
Also, I've seen people running custom roms on kitkat on the SM-900V, so I know it's possible. I just need a guide for dummies on how to do it.
Thanks again
The best way to root kitkat is installing twrp and when you boot system it asks if you want to root.

Use towelroot method then install latest superuser from chainfire website and then install safestrap. After you've done this you will be able to flash some custom TW roms. You cant get AOSP roms on the vzw retail note 3 yet because the bootloader is still locked.

Hello,
My wife has RAZR M running stock and rooted 98.15.66 rom. Bootloader was never unlocked but I think it's still possible with this version of rom. am I right? Last time I was doing something with her phone was almost 2 years ago and I'm more samsung guy so need some directions here She loves this phone and doesn't want to get anything new. Phone is getting to run slower so it needs cleanup. Is it worth to upgrade it to KK rom or just do factory restore and set it up from scratch on this 4.1.2 rom? Any major bugs on stock KK rom? CM12 has too much bugs as of now for her. What about CM11, is there fully functional and bugs free version for RAZR M available?
.66 is indeed unlockable right away, but just so you could experience stock KitKat and see if it's more fitting, simply upgrade to 183.46.10 (ATTENTION: not .15!!!) and unlock the bootloader there. Guides are there in the General section. Note that you will lose data and internal storage contents, so back up properly.
After that if you feel uncomfortable with KitKat, you can freely downgrade to Jelly Bean whenever you prefer.
Haven't met any serious bugs even in CM12, let alone CM11. Don't know what kind of deal-breaking bug you're talking about.

According to Strife89 post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58531079&postcount=80 there are couple of bugs that I know my wife is not gonna like for example microphone level and able hear own voice when using headphones.
Do you think it's better to unlock bootloader before upgrading to KK or it's doesn't matter? Thanks.

I would suggest that you unlock the bootloader now before you upgrade.

Unlock unlock unlock. It worth the candle. I think your wife will be happy with cleaned up 4.1.2 or 4.4.2. Last one is more stylish, and comfortable in use, as for me.
OK is that correct order to get it upgraded?
1. Unlock boot loader using apk or Motopocalypse from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-razr-m/general/guide-faq-how-to-root-boot-unlock-t2869432
2. Flash KK firmware using RSD Lite but I'm not sure which image from this: http://www.drdevs.com/devs/FXZ-files/XT907 (Droid RAZR M)/ website is safe to use. Can I use latest one 20.62-15.1 after unlocking boot loader or do I have to stay stay with 20.62-10?
3. Flash TWRP from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776515
4. FLash SuperSU from recovery
Is that correct way to handle it?
