So confused with safestrap, flashfire, and the million zips floating around! - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI all,
I'm used to just sticking a couple of zips in Odin and calling it a day, but it looks like in the past couple of years Flashfire / Safestrap have become the go-to method for flashing our phones.
I am interested in flashing this Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development/bsfreelollipop5-0rombpb1based-t3331541 Unfortunately there aren't any clear instructions on how to do so with Flashfire for someone who hasn't done that before. My S5 is currently running 4.4.4 / NK2 and is rooted.
I tried to correlate other Flashfire instructions threads with this ROM but nothing has been clear enough for me. The Play store beta link for flashfire just gives a 404.
Can someone be kind enough to please provide the proper link to get the right version of Flashfire, and some clear instructions on how to flash this ROM with it?
Thank you so much!

Try this link for Chains Flashfire.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.flash

Download and install Towelroot, run it. Download supersu, busybox, and safestrap. Install. For roms, follow devs instructions to install their roms. Do not skip a step.

I just need to install that on my phone, or computer?...I guess I thought I was going to have to do work with drivers and some other things, and then link the phone up o the computer and all that other stuff...
Anyways thank you very much for your quick help so far!
I think you only need a pc to Odin anything to install modded roms. Nc4 is roots with towelroot, then you just install supersu, busybox, and safestrap and run them.

ok do you get those from the playstore, or from the internet on the phone. When I typed in towelroot on google play, I got DriveDroid (paid), Soft buttons, Root checker and unroot PRO as results.

Are you downloading to a pc? If so which browser are you using? As far as I know to download a stock rom, go to sammobile.com . It's a pain in the butt to log in and everything but once it works, you can download the stock rom from them and flash it via odin. I just did that with my note 10.1 to return it to stock.

Flash stock VZ room to S5 developer

My GF needs a updated (stable) VZ TW rom for her S5. I don't remember how to flash a stock VZ ROM to my girlfriend's S5 using twrp without locking the bootloader? Any help would be great. Thanks. And any suggestions on stock TW ROMs?
Anybody?

I don't think you can without locking the bootloader
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app
If I understand/read it right. I only flash the ROM zips, in twrp. Kernel is included.

Since the lock info is almost completely contained in Qfuses on the SoC, it should work just fine to put a normal verizon rom on it...I don't know why you wouldn't just use an AOSP rom though...
Thanks. It is for my GF....she's needs the stability. And on CM ROMs the GPS doesn't work. Maybe I can convince her to try something different though. Ha.
You can flash this.

It flashes recovery, though--make sure you don't do that if you don't want it.
Thanks. Will give it a try tonight
Nope didn't boot. Gave it about 13min
I had to flash TWRP in Odin to restore.... (A scary couple of minutes. Lol)
You really can't brick these things. Just create an unbrick image (there's a thread about somewhere around here) and put it on an sdcard. I'm serious--I absolutely hosed my phone (no bootloader) and that brought it right back.
Of course, I'm not issuing a _challenge_

I'm really curious at to why that ROM wouldn't work. What did you use to flash it?

Thanks...I'm using twrp, I was using Phil's. But I'll don't remember. When I get back into town I'll try again. Is there an update to twrp maybe? I would rather use a cm ROM but I could never get the GPS to pick up satellites.

First time Note 4 flash

Hi all,
After just over a year I finally want to flash my Note 4 for a couple of reason, but mainly as 5.0.1 is annoyingly stupid and having several issues with it.
So I do want 5.1.1, I do not want to lose S-pen/S-health features as I use those, but do want something that is as lightweight and quick as possible.
Also ideally I don't want to lose my Barclays app (I pretty much do 99% of banking through the app) and thus do not really want it rooted - unless and suggestions around that.
So what roms would people suggest?
Thanks.
Most ROMs come pre-rooted I think, best bet is to update to 5.1.1 through Odin and then do a clean factory reset to start a fresh.?

Thanks, the only reason for not rooting is damn barclays app, but suppose I could just use the website login.
If you are going to flash a stock rom u don't need to root, and remember to backup your data before flashing because u have to reset your device after installing the rom.
Best wishes

hi,
how does one add to the root file the img file? every time i have tried is says i need to be rooted… which i am not? can you advise the step by step to add the img file without root access to the root folder? maybe the file manager apk you used that we can also download and install and use?
The root folder just means the first part of your storage. I.e not in any folder.

I'll put up a link for the files needed . Recovery is for the j320f but it's working on mine no problem and I'm on j320fn. You have to flash recovery via odin and change language when you load it up because I think it's in Russian but not sure . I found all this on a website but can't remember where to now but anyway here you go for TWRP http://mega.nz/#!tBORFSBI
and for flash able root in recovery http://mega.nz/#!1ZFAWZDI
use Firefox to download from mega ok and if you have any trouble flash stock through odin, website for stock rom is sammobile

All good - The phone is now rooted and SuperSU installed (I haven't tried the Xposed installer yet, but will do tomorrow as off to bed now.
Many thanks for the advise & links... I'm sure there's a lot of people that it will help!
For anyone else wanting to try this, the basic info is broken down below:
Basically, download TWRP & SuperSU from these links & flash using Odin:
TWRP*http://www.mediafire.com/download/bl...-J320F.tar.tar
root file*http://www.mediafire.com/download/cp...0630161323.zip
The TWRP will be in Russian, but if you click on the right-hand side grey box then you can change to English.
First thing to do is run a Nandroid back-up and once completed copy the SuperSU file to the phone/Ext SD card and flash this (I flashed it twice, as the first attempt just made the phone constantty reboot after the logo.
Next you can flash thexPosed Lollipop 5.11 from here :* the framework for xposed lollipop 5.1.1*http://www.mediafire.com/download/hx...m-20151217.zip

6.0.1 can be rooted and if you are going to odin flash lollipop why? Flash twrp in odin mode then flash supersu zip through twrp. Boom rooted then can flash any rom you want. Easy I've rooted every phone this way. Simple
