To all devs out there ,im been trying to root the hero for a week now ,ive tried every guide going also the gold card with 10 different sd cards with no luck.the rom what ive got is the release 2.73.405.66 rom.it has the new nboot is thats why i cant flash.is there any way i can wipe all date and software so i will have nothing on the phone and then install an earlier rom, its just an idea as im starting to lose it with this fone.i hope someone can help me or do i have to wait for the official update from htc
with this rom version you need to create a goldcard and downgrade your rom before you can install a custom rom. if you have problems with the goldcard you should be more specific.
waiting for the update doesn't seem like the best idea, because it might take some until a security flaw is found that allows to root the rom when already installed on the phone. if you have the custom recovery image you will be able to install the (pre-rooted) update short time after it was released.
You should be able to use fastboot for this issue.
Search around the forums, (also http://hero.modaco.com) and read about it.
All you need is the fasboot tool, a usb cable and the "debugging mode" switched on at ur phone...
everytime i create the gold card and try to downgrade the rom it states boot error 140.i follow the guides very indepth i get the serial number from the sdcard than i reverse the string and then replace the first two numbers or letters with 2 zeros how can you tell when the goldcard is on the sdcard.when i replace the sdcard back in sdcard reader it states that the folder is empty.im quite clued up on winmo but android is giving me a headache
wouldn't the fastboot give you the "remote: not allowed" error?
anyway, you can try:
start your phone by holding back and pushing power, you should see three skating androids. put recovery image in the folder where your fastboot.exe is, open terminal and go to that folder and type:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.3.1.img
if that works report back.
for the goldcard i can't help, never did it.
at last im rooted thanks for for the help .the way i did
(with the phone in normal mode)
1) Connect your Hero via usb to your pc/mac/...
2) Open Command Prompt ->
Put in the following text ->
C:\Users\Username> cd\
C:\>cd android\tools\
C:\>android\tools>adb push recovery-RA-Hero-v1.5.3.1.img /sdcard/recovery-RA-Hero-v1.5.3.1.img
C:\>android\tools>adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-Hero-v1.5.3.1.img

I guys, I seem to be having the same issue as the OP. Having tried the above it tells me that there is an error writing recovery: Permission denied. Any idea how to solve this?
Thanks!

Getting exactly the same. Tried the goldcard method numerous times using 3 different cards and always get the bootloader 140 error. Tried the above with same errors... very frustrating!
Mine is a UK T-Mobile G2 with build number 2.73.110.26, any suggestions gratefully tried!
Edit: Finally managed to sort it. I was using "RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_1.76.405.1_R3_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe" - this didnt work. Once I found and tried RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe it all clicked into place!
Thanks for all the info provided on these forums, cheers!

Hi
I have tried making a goldcard, and installed via. the RUU shown here.. 405.5 .. but then I tried using Flashrec to get another recovery image, it failed making the first step...
So is my phone rooted or did something go wrong ?
the phone is still unfortunately not rooted. I would've tried the fastboot method
Sent from my HTC Hero using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
just curious but did anyone just try to flash the older version without bothering with the goldcard...i dun know what i did to my htc hero orange but when i was researching i was told i needed to downgrade to root. I tried to take a long shot and used htc sync and old orange ruu..and somehow it just downgraded itself.... i know it might not help but its a long shot!

Very similar story. I did make a goldcard but hadn't got as far as finding out how to extract the update.zip out of the RUU exe, in order to use it. I tried running the RUU to see what would happen & my Hero downgraded.
Hi guys!
I had root my htc hero a month ago then i tried few rom's to see how they are. My phone is locked for Orange UK. Everything was ok. Then i had updated the new ROM from htc website (via RUU file). The phone working fine, but now i can't go into recovery mode. If i reboot into recovery mode i have a white screen with a triangle and a phone sign. Pressing Home+Power again i have acces to 3 options:reboot system now, apply sdcard:update.zip, and wipe data/factory reset but only reboot working. Also i have an error on the same screen: E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
Trying to downgrade using an older version of RUU i got an error: on phone-Checking customer ID. Upgrade failed; on the computer: Customer ID error.
Everything else working fine.
What can i do?
Thank you.

Which RUU exactly?.... Please do not say the new 2.1?!
As long as it isn't the 2.1 update from a few days ago,... Just follow BTDAGs guide in my signature. You will probably need to downgrade using the goldcard method. But start at the top and you should be fine.
No, is not 2.1update. I want to update to the new 2.1 but can't do because of that issue.

The RUU file version installed is 2.73.61.66 for Orange. Could be a problem?
Thanks.

Followed BTDAG guide with no succes.
On first method with flashrec i've got an error: Backup FAILED: Could not run command.
Second option can't use because i don't have full access to recovery mode
Last option (goldcard), i've got an error when use: cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
saying: cat/sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid not found.
What else i can do? Please guys...
Thank you.
Have you set up the SDK correctly? ... Do you see anything when doing:
cd c:\android\tools\
adb devices
???????
Help Please
I have the same problem.
Tried everything, can't flash new recovery img using apk flasher, can't try the goldcard method cause I get "adb access denied" even though "adb devices" shows my phone. Tried using Droid Explorer to flash the new img or update but that didn't work too. Formatted my sd card a few times using the phone & my OS (when it was mounted and acted as disk on key). I also reinstalled the RUU that caused it a few time to see maybe I did something wrong but nothing (I too had a rooted phone and installed the 2.73 Orange UK root).
What else can I do? I feel like it has something to do with my SD card but I don't know how else to format it. Even on Droid Explorer it doesn't show me any of the folders that are in there when I'm connected (like tmp, rosiescrl, footprints).
Help
Tried to reinstall corect drivers for HTC but in device manager show 'drivers are up to date', so no change yet. Any other ideea?
tried to reinstall RUU file 2.73.61.66. Was working fine, then i tried RUU 2.73.405.5 . No chance. It said 'customer ID error'. Recovery mode still not working.
Help guys.
Well, of course it won't be working. Updating with official rom completely replaces everything on your phone including custom boot. And, of course, you won't be able to install .405.5 since it's lower version than your firmware. You have to downgrade to .405.5 using goldcard and then repeat the root and custom recovery install procedure.
Alright.
Let me first give an overview of where it all begins. If this is the state you are currently in then this guide is for you. To make this guide, I have benefitted heavily from various threads all across the web. So I decided to put it all at one place. This guide would not have been possible without a very comprehensive thread started by "kiwiandy" in the same forum and many others. Ok, so here it is. Please read below, if any of the situations resemble yours, this guide is for you.
ALL CREDITS OF BELOW FILES GOES TO THEIR OWNERS. I AM MERELY REPLICATING THE INFORMATION WITH A GUIDE AND TWEAKS FOR 802W. IF ANY VIOLATION OF ANY RIGHTS TAKES PLACE, PLEASE PMA ND FILE WILL BE REMOVED.
You have purchased HTC Dual SIM from China which is the UNICOM version
You have purchased HTC Dual Sim 802w from the web or any other place and have the chinese phone shipped to you. However you are not sure if its China UNICOM version.
When you go into settings and "About" there is an option of "Software Updates"
When you go into settings and "About" there is NO Software Update option in your 802w HTC dual sim
You want to get rid of Chinese bloatware and are looking for a straightforward Cleaning program that DOES NOT require root.
You want to be able to have custom recovery and flash updates.
You want to or DO NOT want to ROOT your device. (If its not already rooted)
You want the "LOCKED" bootloader and do not want the complications of HTCDEV or "UNLOCKED" or "TAMPERED" bootloader. (Although this guide works for both)
You want English Language and Google Services.
Let me first clear a bit of air with respect to the common terms used in HTC world. One may and may not agree to this. However, as you read through the guide there will be substantial evidence to prove this.
S-OFF: This sits at the top. If you are not Root and if you are not having an "UNLOCKED" bootloader you can stil do ANYTHING with your phone including installing custom recovery and installing images and updates. With a S-Off you dont even need custom recovery to install OTA updates via zip files that you have already downloaded. You can update via the android Stock recovery. You dont need to have root access or unlocked bootloader. S-Off is basically security off and allows unsigned zips to be flashed. With a S-OFF you can instal custom recovery like CWM or TWRP even if you are NOT rooted or even if you have a LOCKED bootloader.
Root happens once you have a locked bootloader. You may or may not have S-Off. Most work can be done if you are rooted. So you dont really need S-OFF. However, those who do not wanr "UNLOCKED" or "Tampered" bootloader written on top of their boot screen they should consider s-off rather than root. Root is basically access to system files and not certain partitions of your phone.
UNLOCKED bootloader allows you have root acces. But as we move on, this method will die and the flashign method of Hboot will rise. This guide can eb used by all the people who either have UNLOCKED Bootloader or LOCKED bootloader or Tampered.
Ok, I think that pretty much clears it. I have tried to answer issues that require a lot of searching here. One more basic thing that needs clearing.
There are two ways to flash recovery or updates if you are S-OFF. One way is to use the HTC DEV method to unlock bootloader and instal via "adb" and fastboot commands.
The second easier way is to use a "Locked" bootloader but S-OFF and No root method to instal ROMS and custom recovery bia "HBOOT" method.
For HBOOT method you need flashable ZIPS. To instal via fastboot requires IMG files. Benefit of this method is that you can do factory reset from the phone and phone will revert to its factory position. No need for doing ti from clockwork mod.
Now Over to the GUIDE. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR PHONE. IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND ASK. IF YOU AR ENOT SURE AND DO NOT OWN YOUR OWN ACTIONS DONT TRY THIS.
Please read the whole thread. Reading one part wont help. Poeple with already unlocked bootloaders need to Relock bootloader first. I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE.
Download the Stock 802w firmware RUU file from the following link http://d-h.st/aj4.
This will be a zip format. If you are on Windows, Rename the file as "PN07IMG". If you are on MAC rename the file as "PN07IMG". There is no need to add ".zip" since the downloaded file already has the extension of zip. Save this file in a folder on your PC named "Stock"
However, if after applying the procedure below, you get stuck at "verifying image" or "image not found" please remove the ".zip" exptension from the file. Just rename it. Do not UNZIP.
Download the drivers for your phone. You can google it. Its available easily for download. Even if your phone is recognized by your PC as storage device stil you need to download the drivers for effective adb push if required ever.
Link is : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3372901/HTC_drivers_Win7_x64.zip
Unzip to a folder
On your PC goto device manager in the control panel or by right clicking on the my computer icon and selecting properties.
In the device manager, please see if your HTC is listed under android devices. If it is then you dont need drivers.
If however there is an item in the list mentioned UNKNOWN then you need to instal the dirvers provided herewith. These work for both Windows 8 and Windows 7.
These drivers have to be added in manually by selecting location of driver and browsing to that folder.
Once the drivers are installed. Proceed to the next step.
Download the 4.2.2 update to any folder of your PC. Link to Official 4.2.2 OTA update is
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3372901/update.zip
Save this file and do not rename it.
Next proceed to download the "ZIP" version of CWM clockwork mod recovery for 802w. This is a special file and has to be like that. Special since it is custom to every version of HTC one. This is for HTC 802w.
Usual CWM recovery files are in IMG format. This one is in ZIP since we are bootloader locked. And we want to keep the botloader lcoked and stil flash recovery via HBOOT.
CWM recovery download page has an IMG for HTC ONE. This DOES NOT work with 802w Dual Sim. You have to use my version below.
For 802 t and 802 d, I can upload another version of CWM but for that Please download a small file called "CID" for google play store.
Run CID on your HTC One phone. and a list of values will appear. Carefullt jot down "cidnum" "mainversion" "bootloader" and "firmware" numbers. Please note this is the method you must use. I found out that using adb command to get all variants gives incorrect values.
My Zip version of CWM is:https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3372901/PN07IMG.zip
Please save this file in a different location form the previous stock RUU file you downloaded in the beginning of this thread. They both have same names. Hence store this file in a folder on your PC called "cwm". If you need recovery for 802t 802d please mention the values stated above and i can tweak the recovery file to work that way.
TWRP recovery for 802w I stil do not have. if any one has it I fill be willing to make a ZIP version.
Alright, Now off to flashing. Follow these steps CAREFULLY. Every word has a consequence. Please follow it as is. This works for all LOCKED AND UNLOCKED bootloaders with or without root. For LOCKED bootloaders you need to be s-off. Now first we got to know if you are S-off or not. To check this,
Restart your phone. Shut down doesnot work sometimes due to fastboot. SO restart your phone.
When your screen goes blank during the restart, immediately press the VOL DOWN KEY and the Power KEY simultaneously and keep them pressed down. Until the phone goes int a white colous Boot screen with text.
ON the top of the screen will be written : LOCKED or UNLOCKED or TAMPERED. and after that in the next line will be either "S-off" or "S-on"
If you are S-on you need to unlock your device via htc dev and there are tons of threads on it. So unlock your phone and then follow this guide below.
However, if you are S-off you dont need to do anything except follow the guide.
Now the flashing part.
Format your sd card from your phone. Thats the best way to avoid file errors. Just format it within the phone. The command should be in settings under storage.
Once the sd card is formatted, connect your phone to PC. Make sure USB debugging is on.
Copy the PN07IMG.zip file (size approx 870MB) that you downloaded in the folder named "stock" and paste it on the sd card. Do not create any folder on the SD card. Just copy the file to the root of the sd card.
Make sure the file you copied is on the root of sd card. Root fo sd card means when you open the card from your PC the file is right there and not inside any folder.
Also make sure that you copy the file and paste it to your sd card and you DO NOT "send the file to" sd card. Sending the file just creates shortcut and not the original file.
Recheck that the file name is "PN07IMG"
if all is good, then unplug your phone from your pc and reboot.
When you see the blank screen during restart press the VOL DOWN key and the power key simultaneously and keep pressing till the whote screen with text shows up.
Your phone will automatically start searchign for file named "PN07IMG" and will find it and start loading it. Stay calm and let it do what it wants.
If however, the screen shows an error like "IMG file not found" or file misisng and takes you back to the white screen with text on it and options like "Fastboot" and "recovery" etc… that means the file name is incorrect. Remember the file we need is PN07IMG in a zipped format.
A simple check for this is that the file should be zipped but there should be no ".zip" in the name. If thats the case you are good. But if you see the file zipped and also with a ".zip" in the name that means its named incorrectly. Correct file is "PN07IMG" and it should be zipped.
Do not zip the file yourself. The file in the link i provided is already zipped. Just rename it.
If however, your phone system detects the file and starts uploading it and later gives an error while verifying that means the file you downloaded is corrupt. Re download the file.
If however, all goes well, the system will autoflash your phone with the STOCK RUU file of 802w from China Unicom.
System will reboot. and then reboot again. and then finally you will see the welcome screen of HTC
You will be greeted in a chinese language. Just click on the sceen at the language and you can choose english US.
You can skip the settings and accounts and simply skip through to the homescreen of the phone.
Go into Apps. There is a app called "File Manager". run it
GOTO your esternal sd card from the phone and delete the PN07IMG file there. We dont need it any more.
Conenct your phoen via wifi or 3g. There is an app called htc marketplace in your appdrawer.
Run it. Swipe on the first two pages and you come to the main screen of the app.
in the search box above type "GMS" and click search
The apps listing will show "GMS" app and some words in chinese. click on that to download.
Let the download finish. Once the download finishes. Do NOT CLICK ON THE APP.
Remove you external sd card from the phone. Just remove it.
Now RUN the downloaded GMS app. Its in your app drawer.
Click ok in the dialogue that appears. OK is the right button option.
A file will start downloading. It will be of 150 MB approx. Let it download. Dont use the phone this time.
Once the file is downloaded click on it and you will be presented with the Dialer in the HTC phone. There is a code writen on the screen somethign like *#42*…… . Type the whole code as is int he phone and VOILA the phone will restart. If it doesnot, you typed the code incorrectly.
Phone will restart and again restart and then the phone boots into the normal mode but this time you have the Google Play store and all google accounts available wiht you.
Now put back the external sd card in your phone.
Connect yoiur phone to PC. Copy the file downloaded above called "update.zip" onto the root of the folder. Remember sd card should have no folder. THe file update has to be on the main root of the sd card.
Reboot your system and again hold the VOL down and Power key. Release the keys when the phone boots into whote screen with text.
The phone will try to search for an image which it will not find. Now it will present you with a menu stating " FastBoot" and "recovery" and few other options.
Select Recovery. Do this by pressing the VOL Down key once. and then to select press "Power key". dont press both keys together.
Your phoen will now boot into somehting with a red or grene triangle with exclamation mark or sync mark.
Carefully, press the VOL UP key and while pressing it press the Power key and release both.
The phone will now show options and one of them is "Instal zip from sd card"
If no options are shown, repeat the VOL UP and power key thing again.
Choose instal zip from sd card and choose the "update" file you copied to root of sd card.
The system will verify the image. If verification fails, the file downloaded was not correct or the name is not correct. If all goes well, the system will reboot twice and then you are back into your homescreen. Only this time you have the 4.2.2 update Stock.
Stil do not setup your phone. Reconnect it to your PC.
Copy the "PN07IMG" file that you downloaded in the folder named "cwm" on your pc to the root of your sd card. Please make sure the file is copied as is to the root of the sd card.
Reboot your phone and as always hold VOL down and POWER key. until you see the white screen.
Your phoen will autodetect the file and start flashing it. This the CWM recovery file.
System will reboot. and you will come back to your homescreen.
Download the "ROMCLEANER" file. Link is at the end of this post. All credits goto the team of ROM CLeaner. However, the 802w text file has been edited by me to make sure that HTC works and only the chinese bloatware is removed. The file is edited so that common problems like Smart dial not working after romcleaner flash do not occur.
Copy the ROMCLeaner zip file to the root of your sd card again. Also delete the PN07IMG file form your sd card. This is important.
Reboot. and again hold down the VOL DOWN and POWER key until you go into the white screen.
Now choose "Recovery" option by pressing VOl down and then selecting wiht power key.
You are now into Clockwork recovery. LOCKED BOOTLOADER NOT ROOTED. and stil in cwm recovery.!!!
choose flash zip from "external sd card" option and select the ROMCleaner zip file.
Just keep pressing next, or if touchscreen not working, use vol up key select and power key to choose NEXT. However, make sure in one of the options you choose "Sense"
In the last dialogue it asks for ROMCLEANER.. its the second option. Choose it.
Finish the task and your job is done. Chinese bloatware removed. Reboot phone.
You are now into your homescreen.
Setup your phone. If need be back it up with nandroid using your CWM recovery partition.
For those who have unlocked bootloaders and rooted. You may need to RELOCK your Bootloader before the flashing of the STOCK RUU ROM. Instructions to relock are easily available via google.
Cheers.

Thanks for this great job. But as I'm a total noob in terms of flashing smartphones (well, I did it years ago with my Motorola Razr, though), am not too familiar with the entire terminology (rooted, locked/unlocked bootloader, s-off etc.) and all of the implications and consequences of this stuff yet, and therefore did understand max. 75% of your post, I'm afraid I'd brick the phone if I'd try to follow this guide.
OTOH: I desperately need this Dual SIM phone (note that I don't have it yet), as there currently seems to be no alternative to it. For now, I have just two questions:
You're just mentioning the English language ("You want English Language and Google Services"). Will the phone after this procedure offer a multilingual interface, though (incl. German)?
Would you (or anybody else in this forum) be willing to flash this phone for me in the way described in this guide (which would be generously compensated, of course)?
More questions are likely to be raised later on if I'd get a positive answer to 1. (and a negative one to 2.).
Cheers, myfreexp

From what I have read in various threads and believe to have understood, this is one of the logical and unavoidable consequences of the fact that your phone is rooted.
I may be wrong, though. As I said in my previous post, I'm a noob, but one who is at least trying to read and understand. So please don't take my statement as the absolute truth, unless it will be confirmed by more competent folks/devs.
truely awsome, but ..

Yes it is possible. If you have followed my guide. Since you have a locked bootloader just use the hboot method above, rename the file and you are back to 4.1.1

hi there:
Thanks for the great guide.. i am using this with my HTC One 802w but when i wanted to flash the zip file for CWM recovery file it return with an error of CID incorrect...

I try to extract the required value via using apps "CID Getter" but it generate a lot of information.
post these online to see whether this will help....
CID: HTCCN703
Bootloader: 2.26
Build version codename: REL
Build version incremental: 211355.2
Build version release: 4.2.2
Rom version: 2.17.1402.2
PS: For mainversion & firmware i cannot get these from the apps above but try to source for similar info.. not sure whether it is help
Appreciate your help as i think i am approaching the last part to get a full workable 802w dual sim...
Need your help to clear this last hurdle before i remove all the annoying apps that Unicom install..

Thanks in advance
Dear Yahya
I just finished the steps successfully, only one issue is that still there is some apps in chines language and when I boot or shut down there is a WO and unicom logo, is there a way to remove them
Stuck at update.zip
Hi Yahya - I'm stuck at step #41 ... the update.zip verifies OK, goes to install and then gives the error msg:
assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop". "ro.build.fingerprint") == "htccn_chs_cu/m7cdug/m7cdug:4.1.2/JZ054K/186762.2:user/release-keys" || file_getprop("/system/build.prop". "ro.build.fingerprint") == "htccn_chs_cu/m7cdug/m7cdug:4.2.2/JDQ39/211355.2:user/release-keys"
Installation aborted.
I've downloaded the update.zip file 6 times and retried.
Please, please help!!
What you will need:
KingRoot V4.5.0.901 (latest version as of this posting)
Rooting your phone will void your warranty.
Terminal Emulator for Android
Replace KingUser with SuperSU
MtkDroidTools v2.5.3-updated
adbd Insecure v2.00
SP Flash Tool
I am not going to get into how to install ADB drivers, MtkDroidTools, or SP Flash Tool. If you are not experienced with rooting, flashing, etc., please do some research.
Okay, let's get started
First you will need to get your phone rooted. Download KingRoot using the link above and follow this guide.
Next you will need to replace KingUser with SuperSU.
Now that we have the phone rooted and SuperSU in place, we can use MtkDroidTools to make a backup of the phone.
This video will show you how to backup your phone with MtkDroidTools (make sure you have downloaded the version I provided, as this has updated ADB files). Also make sure you enabled adbd Insecure before you connect your phone (you don't need to check enable at boot).
Once you have a successful backup, you need to create the files for flashing (scroll down to PREPARING EXTRACTED MTK ANDROID FLASH FILES FOR FLASH TOOLS) if you need to flash back to the original firmware.
Hopefully you now have a backup of your phone. Now we can install a custom recovery. You can use either TWRP (rename to recovery.img) or PhilZ.
The easiest way to flash the custom recovery is with SP Flash Tool. Connect your phone (you don't need adbd Insecure enabled for this). Run flash_tool.exe as administrator. For scatter-loading File click on the Scatter-loading folder
and navigate to your MtkDroidTools backups folder. There should be a folder that starts with BLU-STUDIO-C. Open that folder and select MT6582_Android_scatter.txt. For the recovery file, navigate to the one you downloaded (TWRP or PhilZ) by clicking on the Location column next to RECOVERY.
Make sure RECOVERY is the only box checked before proceeding. Now you have your scatter file and custom recovery loaded. Click on the Download button. Nothing will happen at this point. Now shut down your phone (not restart). Once your phone shuts down completely, plug it in via USB and you should see it begin to flash the custom recovery. If not, then you need to make sure you have the necessary drivers installed. Once it's complete, you can close out SP Flash Tool and disconnect your phone. After your phone is disconnected, hold down the power and volume up buttons until the recovery menu appears :good:
Post your feedback, and if you encounter any problems, please be as descriptive as possible. Good Luck

Thanks for this guide, it has worked for me so far (backing up with mtkdroidtools now). Can I ask, why is it neccessary to use SPFT to flash the recovery? I have used fastboot to flash the recovery without issues. I just
$ fastboot oem unlock
and then was able to
$ fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
and it worked.
html
Also, would you be able to port some custom roms for this phone?

Glad it worked out for you. Yes, fastboot is also an option (as you all ready know).
Recovery could probably be flashed with Flashify, but haven't tried it. I am not a developer, so no I can't port any ROM's, and take no credit for the custom recoveries listed here.
If someone can post Cyanogenmod for a phone that uses the same hardware, I can port that for this phone.

Bricked Blu Studio C (D830U)
Hey,
Was wondering if you could help me out here, as I'm a TOTAL Noob when it Comes to BLU phones But not to flashing....
I've Bricked by Phone, The Computer and SP Flash Tools still recognize the phone..
I've Downloaded the proper ROM from NeedRom.com....
My Issues:
1. Can you Verify WHICH Driver I should Be Using for a FULL either Erase/Download Or a Firmware Upgrade (Not Sure Which)
2. I need a Scatter File the Contains ALL the Memory address and Supplies ALL the Check Marks for a FULL Rewrite Flash....The One with the rom is missing Preloader Android, Cache, and usrdata...
When I did JUST the Scatter file flash attempt I got the BROM_ERROR : S_DL_GET_DRAM_SETTING_FAIL ( 5054 )
I googled that and it said the Perloader wsn't right So I added the Perloader (And checked the "firmware.info file" and seen the Memory:
preloader 0x0000000000c00000 0x0000000000000000 2 /dev/misc-sd
So I tried Anyway and got the same error except this time it's 4032.
So Basically Can you tell Me Which Files In the ROM I Download Go Into Which SLOTS on SPFTools, and Which memory address' are correct the firmware file or the Scatter??
I really don't want to keep slamming the phone with "STUFF" and REALLY screw something up, I think I'm lucky it's even being recognized at this point....
Also the MTK_Allinone_DA.bin that comes with SPFTools is the right one??!?!
I'm Using Version 5.13.52.200
I'm Assuming Just a FULL Scatter file would solve the problem?!?!?
ANYHELP In this Would be VERY much Appreciated....
Thanks
Mike
EDIT:
Ok, I got it to 4001 Error, And it's saying that error is it's not connecting with the preloader, So I'm thinking (hoping) if I can get those 3 files, even if the cache is empty as long as the memory address is right, and the scatter.txt, and do a Firmware upgrade, Hope, will solve the problem, if not, On to Test Pins...
@bobl61
Could work together to enhance MTKDroid liek as
Increae number of CPU recognize by it (ex. MT67xx - just recognize it - not work with it)
Update the apk included and sued by MTKDroid (like MobileUncle/Root Explorer/SuperSU)
Upload the ROM or the link I think I know what's the problem @Miker1029

Hey Thanks, I've made some progress today, The rom is on Need Rom.com so best to just google Needrom and D830U as It's internal search doesn't work so well....
I Got a New (Cheap, Used Phone) and to my Suprise It's an MT65XX Chip set Also (ACK!!!!!)..................... NO WAY IT JUST BOOTED UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TOOK FOREVER!!!!!
Ok I learned that with the Downloaded ROM from Needrom, You Need to Go to MTK Tools and Process blocks for flash, The go to the Directory you Extracted the ROM to, And It'll bring up the MD5 file click it and It'll create the Scatterfile and the "!FLASH" Directory, Then Navigate to the !FLASH (something) Directory and you'll have your scatterfile.txt, Load it up, I added ALL files (see Screen Shot) and it's booted up.... You need to use Preloader Drivers for it, And I HAD TO FORMAT AND FLASH.... And what you see in the SPFlashtool screen shot is what I flashed....
I'm not a GUIDE writer sorry, But Hopefully this will give hope to those like me (that have been bricked for ALONG TIME) Hope.....
If anyone needs info on this Ask, I'll try and answer.....

Update, Just a Heads Up I'm Assuming from Googling around, that Installing the NVRAM will wipe your IMEI, Still working on this aspect, But it doesn't seem to be Hindering the phone in anyway, As I said It Took along time to boot up, So I'm not sure if Re-writing the NVRAM made it work or not, I do know I formatted + Download, and It Sat On the Splash Screen, I shut down and Flashed just the NVRAM file, and It booted.....
NOW Should I go for a Custom Recovery??? LOL.... I'll wait.... But now that I know I can Fix it......Hmmmmm

You are correct. I didn't realize the video on how to backup the stock rom did not include the next step which is to create the files needed to flash with MTK. Good catch, Miker1029 :good:

Hey Thanks, Maybe you can redo it or whatever, I was bricked for Months (Mainly Because i didn't know the Phone Type), Check out the screenshots to see the extent I went to Googling My Butt Off trying to figure it out, But once I did, All went good, I've flashed Atleast 100 Phones, For me, Friends, Family, Never had the Kind of issues I had with the MTK Chipset...
But now that I have it, It's rooted, Flashed, Xposed Framework Installed and working, Exactly what I was "Originally" trying to do....LOL, It's good now tho...
Now Funny thing I lost My Compass on it, and Sensor detector says it's working fine, So Not sure what's Interfering With it.... Hate to Re-Flash
SOOO, If I GOTTA re-flash Been looking around for 6.0 (Marshmallow) Build for it (No Luck)
1st Pic, Just the Face.
2nd Pic, Where I Cut the Battery Connector (Casing) to the Board so I could Disconnect the Battery without taking the phone apart....
3rd Pic, I left the screws out as There's a Little spring on the Bottom-Left (Looking from the back) that Makes the speaker work, And On the Bottom-Right is the antenna connection that I can't get to "Snap" back in..... So I left the screws out to fix those minor issues, I'm trying to NOT open it anymore then I already have LOL

Little. More details would be nice..
Did you download the rom from needrom?
Did you create the flashable files from that rom?
Did you generate and add scatter file?
Did you format and flash?
Did you check device manager to see if it's using the pre drives?
Did you remove any and alll USB / MTK drives, except the pre driver?
Disd you start the flash THEN plug on the phone? Does MTK say on the bottom PRE driver?
And finally i believe my issue was some kind of lock up as the battery isnt removable so i cut the casing to access the battery connector and basically stated the flash and attached the battery connection..
Alls i can say is i was at the exact same spot as you i flashed 3 or 4 totally incorrect roms, and had that driver issue, when i finally got the proper rom and fixed the driver issue it worked, and it did take like 20 to 30 minutes for the ohone to boot the 1st time..
Mike
---------- Post added at 11:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:33 AM ----------
Also, i used the recovery that came with the rom and when it finally booted up, i flashed the custom recovery...
And if you decide to go with disconnecting the battery be careful as some months after the female connection on the board broke completely off... I hate any phone without a way to break the electrical connection think it's stupid..
Good luck,
Mike

Ok i'm going to explain my journey from soft-to-revive history:
I was trying to install a custom recovery for my D830U (Blu) and end up in this thread. I made all the steps
-Rooted the phone with kingroot
-Removed kingroot and installed SuperSU
-Instaled insecure adbd insecure
-I made a backup of my stock rom with MtkDroidsTool(wich is the needrom provided, since i flashed my phone while ago)
-Drivers are installed (VCOM)
Everything is downloaded from the links in the post
Ok at this point i did everything exactly like the guide, great
Ok now the part were "something" failed is:
I got the scatter file in the mtkdroidstool backup folder and REPLACED the recovery to the PhilZ recovery.img in the link of the first post. And flashed normaly. Here is where things got bad
I disconnected the phone and realized it got bootloop, couldnt start the phone and can't get into recovery (when i press vol+ button it goes to black screen), because i installed a bad/not compatible philz recovery.img(AGAIN ITS FROM THE PROVIDED LINK) ok now i'm worried but no problem, i tried to reflash with original stock rom and eventually after many tries i got into a normal recovery mode and the phone boots normal..
Now my phone is at the start point. Can you tell me which version of custom recovery are you currently using? Or what procedure should i follow to get into it? Again thanks! Cheers.
Ya I'll upload the recovery i used, I'll get it here sometime today..
I'm not sure which it is, as i said, the power connection for the battery broke off the board awhile ago, so it's either philz or twrp.
Also, if I'm remembering correctly, you have to add the other drivers, not the pre driver, you can try it with the pre, and if you don't get the green check use the other ones, and when you go flash, I'd backup your recovery you have now and put it somewhere safe...
Ill also add the version of xposed i used, if i can find it.. I know i had to install the. Zip files from recovery...
Mike
I believe this is the custom recovery i flashed, i no longer have the phone to test, but i believe i removed all except the stock and custom..
As i said back up your current recovery..
Let me know so i can mark it my puter.. Thanks
Mike
Also let me add, I had a bad philz also, not sure if i got it here, or somewhere else, but i have it marked as philz doesnt work on my computer...
Ok folks, two downloads, can you provide an update?
I'm trying to help with an obscure phone..
So a report back, for the people, would be nice.

Hey mike im going to test this today i'll update my progress in a few! wish me good luck :silly:
First of all, hello there community, all of you have already helped me so much and I really appreciate the effort that you put into this site to help guys like me out
Now onwards to my Problem:
I've had the P Smart for a couple of month when I considered using a Treble custom Rom (just to try it out and have some fun with it).
Since I didn't know how to flash GSI's I googled it and took the first step by step tutorial and followed it.
The Rom I flashed was the PixelExperience_arm64_a-8.1.0-20181015-0009-OFFICIAL.img.
Basically I flashed the rom via fastboot.
When I then realized that it wasn't quite what I expected I wanted to try out other roms.
So I went do dev-options and turned on ADB and OEM-Unlock but then... The OEM-Unlock option was greyed out.
f.
Since I came from stock I have had not yet installed TWRP.
I have searched the internet for hours and hours, day after day but I could not find a single option that could help me with my particular problem.
My current state:
- I have a rom that I do not longer want installed
- I do not have TWRP or any other custom-recovery installed
- In fastboot it says
"bootloader unlocked"
"FRP locked"
(My model is FIG-LX1 btw)
So, here I am and asking you guys for help.
Is there ANY possibility (aside from replacing the mainboard) to fix my phones current state?
Your help is really appeciated,
love y'all
kthxbye

Tried that already, it can't connect to the update server. ("Getting package info failed").
Also I tried the dload method, but none of the update files that I tried seemed to work, it either goes to 5% or says "software install failed" (or both).

So I tried that out, but firstly I couldn't find a proper OEMINFO, and secondly I don't think I could flash it, since my OEM bootloader is still locked...
As I understood HWOTA doesn't support the P Smart (yet?), and it also needs the OEM to be unlocked
And without the OEMINFO it does not seem to work

And by the way when looking for a firmware for your device . You should use older versions and it should be the full ota update
