I havent had the best wifi experience with my note or my note 2. Hoping that the note 2 would be better I was a bit disapointed to find it was still taking ages on youtube constantly buffering and generally getting on my tits I found with my note1 changing the wifi frequency in wifi advanced options from Auto to 2.4ghz helped a bit but this option has been removed as far as I can tell in jellybean so I was stumped.
After googling my problem for some time it appeared that WPA2 security on my router could be the culprit. I would have thought that a new device like the note 2 would have no problem with any of the well known router security options but after changing my homehub2 from WPA2 to WEP128bit security my wifi problems have completely gone.
My phones wifi is now fast and reliable with what seems like a stronger signal.
I dont see anybody reporting wifi problems with the note 2 but I did have and it turned out to be my router security settings so this maybe something to try for anyone having issues with home wifi.
I dont believe this to be a note 2 issue but possibly jellybean could be improved to cope with router security better.
I tryed 3 routers over a year and it turned out to be just a setting ... Doh!

I won't try because WEP and 802.11n are not compatible
Well nice but I don't think it's worth risking security.
this is SPARTAAA
Some suggestions for poor wifi.
- disable bluetooth. It's been shown that having bluetooth on will slow wifi speeds on this device. Having bluetooth connected and streaming audio makes some people's wifi slow down to dial up speeds.
- of possible, use 5ghz wifi. This will reduce your wifi signal strength, but will help illuminate the problems caused by bluetooth.
Hope that helps.

u r the man :good::good::good::laugh:
changed the wifi security to WPA-Personal and boom full speed
i think Samsung broke WPA2 compatibility in 4.1.2 update

there also is an issue with YouTube and wired connections. even 240p videos wont load, but its only certain servers. what I have found so far is the ones that on a whois lookup say Google is the owner have the issue. those that say YouTube are OK.

Man so much noob disinformation everywhere....
WEP is a encryption algorithm , 802.11n is a WiFi protocol standard and yes they are compatible.
5ghz in WiFi has a much higher transfer speed then 2.4ghz but at a cost of shorter range.

yup.... WEP can easily be cracked with Backtracks but if your router has WPS enabled Reaver can get your router to cough up its WPA password in a few hours.
Your problem could be with your router and not your phone.
nice info..............i will try

LOL i thought the Same my router is little old
i need to get new one
Edit : is WPA2 work fast on ur Note2 ??
Theres two encryption options with wpa2 personal, try the other one. It is know that some chipsets do better with one, choices are TKIP or AES, you might be currently set to both, try forcing your router to one or the other and compare them sppedwise

OP, you haven't listed your router. I know, as a fact; that the BT Home Hub's (BT provide as default, and it's what I'm using) are the worst piece of **** to have ever been included in their packages.
Try changing to 5.0Ghz, but make sure your other devices are compatible, otherwise they'll cause the router to revert back and decreasing your transfer speed.
No, WEP and Wireless 'n' are NOT compatible, don't believe me? That's fine, try it out for yourself.
There's also numerous threads on this issue, as well as other Galaxy devices.
There are far too many variables to include 'fixes.' What works for you, might not work for me and vice versa.
Grab an app called WiFi Analyzer from the play store, see the surrounding routers and check what channel they're running on.
How channels work, is that they have an overlap of 5 channels. For example, channels 1-6, 6-11, 2-7, 7-13 etc, etc.
As the routers compete for their selected channel, interference happens which diminishes the signal as well as the throughput data transfer speed.
Do some research

hey
for full speed on WiFi n you should set you security to WPA2/AES it is only one fully compatible with "n" and will work on full speed
My router is set like this, 2.4GHz, and work like charm

I have WPA2 in my house, and I don't have any issues. I get the full speed of my connection to my phone :s I know this can be an issue with certain routers though. What brand router do you have?

Like I said before WEP is compatible with 802.1n.......but some crappy home routers may deprecate it.

I've never noticed any WiFi issues with my N7, until recently.
I have a wireless router set up at home (R1). I have a second wireless router set up in the garage. They are connected by Ethernet. R1 handles the connection to the Internet.
When I originally set them up, I created a different SSID and password for each. When I moved from the house to the garage, I would simply connect to R2's WiFi network by going into settings on my N7. But I recently decided to make both wireless networks identical by using the same SSID's and passwords (reading up on the procedure first). This is supposed to allow your devices to automatically switch between networks automatically, depending on which signal is stronger.
It seems to be working with my HTC EVO 4G LTE, but not with my N7! I have done the "forget network", and re-added it, but this did not fix anything. Any suggestions?

I think got it. Although both routers had the same SSID and password, one had security set to TKIP and the other to something else. I changed one to match the other and my N7 seems to be switching now!

I have a AT&T s4 and a lot of the roms are giving me WiFi trouble. The wifi will stay connected but I'll lose internet.
Any ideas?

I've noticed some wifi issues myself, not exactly the same thing though. My wifi disconnects from 5 ghz wireless N constantly so I switched to connecting to my 2.4 Ghz AP.
It still drops out when sitting idle sometimes but not nearly as often.
In settings / wi-fi / advanced their is an option which possibility might help. This is just a guess
check for internet service, try enabling that maybe it will better detect the fact that the internet isn't working in reality, when it thinks it's still connected.
Also, do you have any problems with other wifi devices around the AP that your having issues with.
With Wifi the AP is often just as suspect as the client, checking for router firmware updates can sometimes help too.
All my other Wi-Fi devices are fine

Are you only having problems with a specific wireless router? Do you have a Dlink by any chance?
Funny I do have a dlink, if I use my Belkin access point it's fine. It's only when I connect directly to dlink.

Hi all,
I'm having a problem with connecting to 5Ghz networks with the Galaxy Note 3. Others have posted similar items on other phones but are always met with generic solutions. Here's everything that's been tried and failed:
- Wifi Analyzer sees the 5ghz networks as Strong.
- Connects fine with my S3, Note 2, and PCs
- Does not connect at home to 5Ghz band or at work
- Auto network switch is off
- Wifi sleep is off
- Tried clearing cache in recovery.
What am I left with, a hardware exchange?
Any help is appreciated..thanks!
Try changing wife channels of your router.... I'm connected to my 5g now and have had no issues connecting recently. I did on my note 2 but it went away when the channels were changed.

I have the same issue at work, though... And why would I have to change channels when all other devices work fine??

I read that to many routers on the same channel could cause issues sometimes. I changed it at home and it worked.

Having a small issue with the wi-fi. I have my main router in the front of my house and an extender at the rear. Both devices are 2.4 and 5Ghz. I have seperate ssid's for each device and freq. When I move the phone from one device to the other, the wi-fi does not switch to the strongest signal. It will hang onto the netowrk that I initially chose. I have bluetooth and wifi scanning off. Any solutions? Thanks.
I have the same setup except I named the main and extended ssid's the same name. The phone roames from the main router wifi to extender wifi really well with this setup.
Sent from my SM-G935T using XDA-Developers mobile app
On my Nexus 6 it would switch automatically with no problems.
You should check out enabling WDS on your routers.. then name them the same ssid and same channel and it will roam pretty well

Fixed the issue. Did a remote session with Samsung and they reset the network connections. Now it switches between netowrks. Thanks for the help.

Can you tell me what they did to fix this? I have the same problem! So irritating!
Settings-backup and reset - reset network settings. Reboot phone. Just reenter your wifi passwords and you're all set.
