[Q] Bought S4 yesterday. Have questions about rooted phone and updates..

I bought S4 yesterday.. rooted it and installed Wicked V4.
I'm not sure if my phone was updated to MF9 already.
My question is, since Wicked M4 is an MDL based ROM, if I go to "about my device" and I do in fact have MF9 installed, will it appear MDL since I have an MDL based rom installed, or will it show MF9 despite that?
Also, I read a 20+ thread and it's like half and half. Some people say it's not necessary to do a software/firmware update on your phone and to just install the newest and latest ROM, what are your thoughts?
And if I do want my phone to stay updated with the latest software/firmware, how do I do this? I did read somewhere that people said to flash a stock-based rom and do an update and then re-flash whatever custom rom, but, how do I know which is a stock-based rom? (lol) also, is that the correct way to updated your phone when you're rooted and are running a custom rom? Thanks!
Just install the latest Rom unless other wise directed in the instructions of the Rom.

And wicked is a port from Verizon I believe where MDL was an ota for both sprint and Verizon.

[Q] What is best way to get back to complete stock?

Hello,
What is the best way to get back to complete stock (including locked bootloader). I'm done with playing with custom ROMs (running CM11 right now). I want stock and guaranteed stability then nightmare dealing with nightlies etc.

I'm guessing you're on an I337 since you mentioned locked bootloader. If I were you I'd just flash a 4.4.2 stock ROM so that you can keep the possibility to use AOSP ROMs like the Google Edition ROMs and others. You can flash the ROM from HERE, use the version that doesn't say wBL at the end. Then just flash one of the 4.4.2 modems in RockRatt's I337 modem thread and it should work just fine. You could even reflash the MDL firmware before all of this to make it clean, or even just freeze the updater and stay on MDL.
If you really want to get rid of all possibility of running more than themed and modded TouchWiz ROMs, you can simply go to the General section, find the NB1 ODIN files, and flash them. If you want root after that, take the OTA to NC1 or sideload it and then use towelroot.

So if I flash one of NB1 ODIN files my phone will looks like something I get from ATT store if I walk in there today, right? That's what I want to achieve, completely something unadultered.

Yes, it will be just like the others in every way, knox bootloader and settings and all, no custom flags or anything.

Flash G900V back to OC4 Stock

I have a rooted Verizon Galaxy S5 G900V on the OC4 MOAR rom. I need to unroot and flash back to stock. I have tried a few but don't want to keep toying around and mess something up. How do I simply (preferably with FlashRoot) unroot and go to stock?

I thought all you had to do was uninstall busybox, supersu, and anything else that installs into system (although installing a stock rom should wipe System, correct me if I'm wrong here), and then flash a stock rom. And noting that bootloaders OE1/OG5 cannot be downgraded, so it's advised you flash an older OD5 stock firmware or below.
This is a guide to go from LP to KK which basically involves just that, flashing. You most likely have to use ODIN for it.

I hear "rom" in stock rom and wonder if it's legitimately stock at that point. Don't I just need to flash the firmware? Wouldn't I do a parallel move to OC4? Where do I get a legitimate firmware for OC4?
The ultimate problem I'm trying to solve is that I'm rooted and need to send my phone in for an upgrade.

Rom is just a reference to the fact that its a firmware. Rom doesn't necessarily have to mean it's custom. Unless I'm misusing the word rom, although people generally don't misunderstand when they're told stock rom. If it's a custom, it would be specified, "rom based on stock (insert version) or usually, based on TouchWiz (insert fw ver).
Anyways here are some of the stock firmwares.

Anyone have Verizon stock ROM?

I accidentally deleted System after adding TWRP like an idiot... Anyone have the Stock ROM?
.... it is just the stock rom that I need, correct?
Alright well I got everything working with a custom ROM, but I really still need a stock rom because the second screen doesn't work on any stock roms.
Yeah if I knew how I would make one. Just a stock Verizon ROM with superuser added.
I think I have a system image but it will take forever to upload on my DSL...

Stock TWRP flashable 10j rom H918 tmobile ???

I am looking for a TWRP flashable stock 10j rom, complete stock or close to that. Is there anything like that.
I don't care about modding much, just need a reliable rooted rom.
I tried a few different roms in the last few days, and all were having issues one way or another.
Stock rom is always is the most stable one.
I could use LGUP to go back to complete stock and then root again, just trying to save the trouble again.
I second this request. Having a hard time finding a ROM without something important broken.

Stock is definitely a solid choice in terms of stability. NotSoStock is close to stock but has kernel tweaks. Some of the others seem to have stock kernel but full of other audio/visual enhancements.
You could try the stock deodex debloated rom which is going to be as close to stock as you will get.

stock deodex debloated rom was never updated to 10j, that's the problem. It's still in 10d version.

thought it was at least 10i. Any chance you know if there is documentation around about the changes through these versions? I haven't yet checked for those changes and actually still searching for good rom myself. I'm not a fan of the ones that can't use second screen at all.

On all the stock roms you can use the second screen. OvrDrive, WETA, NotSoStock.... they are all good roms, just too much modification for my liking.
I would be happy if I could use a simple rooted stock rom with a custom kernel.
Has there been any change to this? I'm still looking for a stock TWRP flashable copy of 10j for the H918.
I made a twrp flashable stock 10j rom about a week ago. I did it for the same reasons you mentioned. It's not rooted, but I just flash magisk right after it. I'll try to upload it to mega tonight. It's not tested but it works fine for me.
