Is anyone else missing some features from the advance feature menus on the verizon s7 edge? I was looking for the switch for the app drawer removal and the switch for the white pages caller id. Is there any way to sideload with out rooting? I cannot root i use samsung pay everyday.
Verizon has removed the white pages feature.
Any way to enable them like you can with adaptive storage?

Coming from an iPhone 5s to this thing and I am again reminded of carrier tampering and bloatware on Android phones. Seriously, why would Verizon not allow users to try out the app drawer removal option?

FYI - This doesn't actually do anything. It will say you've turned it on, but it doesn't work.
They also removed the auto restart feature.
I finally have 7.0 on my Verizon GS7 Edge. I know Verizon blocks some Samsung features, but I was wondering if anyone has a list of everything that is missing. Unfortunately, this is a work phone, so I can't just switch carriers. I had the Note 7 with T-Mobile, but we all know how that turned out. Rather than carrying 2 S7 Edge phones I decided to cancel my line with T-Mo and just rock the one phone for a while. Now I'm wondering if that was a mistake.

Hey, just be happy they didn't remove the GPS, phone-dialer, SMS and the clock - and then offer to sell them back to you [VZ Clock, VZ GPS, VZ Phone, etc.]
Hell, I'm kind of surprised they don't remove the entire Android OS and offer to sell THAT back to you for a monthly fee.

Well, they do have VZ Nav, and I'm honestly surprised they haven't blocked Google Maps from their branded devices. Back in the early days of Android, they actually didn't ship them with Maps, though you could still install it later.

I really like how Sprint installs the vast majority of a device's bloatware after you set up the device. It means you can simply uninstall it and it's actually gone. It's not just disabled or frozen. I understand the business reasons behind bloatware and of course I'd prefer it not be there at all. That said, since it isn't going away, I wish all carriers would adopt Sprint's method rather than cluttering up the system partition with it. Thoughts?
Sent from my Galaxy Note 4 using Tapatalk
Agreed. I've been with them awhile now and they are really easing up on it recently.
I guess this helps them get the product out faster since they don't need to bake these programs in the ROM anymore.
The most recent update I received (I've had like 3 of them already) pushed the additional bloatware, but when I try to uninstall it, it doesn't give the option. Can't wait until we can root this thing.

We can, the T Mob version works, but I would proceed with caution afterwards since we don't have a ROM image to flash if things go south.
I've just been tweaking stuff... Until I can actually remove it and not worry.
I was able to uninstall everything except Lookout, Sprint ID, and Sprint Zone. We are talking about all the extra apps installed by Sprint. This doesn't apply to the additional Samsung apps.

Just the same as carrier branding on sprints phones... there is little to none. I like it that way. I dont go walking down the street, see someone with a huge wart of a verizon logo on the phone and say to myself, "im getting Verizon". Its rediculous that carriers have to put their big old stamp on otherwise beutiful hardware. Same goes for software. I dont see the point in 20 apps that simply take you to the carriers website. Sprint has its share of bloat but its not nearly as bad as others.
Agreed. When it comes to bloatware, AT&T is by far the worst. I owned their Galaxy S5 and there were 17 apps that were specifically installed by AT&T. They even preinstall an app called ReadyToGo which replaces the standard welcome/setup screen (when you turn the device on for the first time) with one that's got AT&T's brand all over it. That's just obscene.

I'm shocked at the lack of "bloat" on this phone. Almost all the Sprint apps are easily uninstalled, but what gets me is the lack of Samsung apps. First time ever I don't have a Samsung folder full of their apps. I actually opened Galaxy App and installed a few just to see whats going on..........

The t-mobile one you can uninstall. I don't have that one on my phone. The sprintDM and verizon backup wouldn't be such a big deal if it was just on the phone but the fact that it runs in the background is the annoying part for me. I'll probably end up needing that Verizon one as I plan on swapping my VZ and Tmobile sims from time to time. I hope 5.1 allows me to just swap the sim in instead of factory resetting the phone.

Wow, people. You should really listen to yourselves. When you have a device that works on multiple carriers, there are ALWAYS going to be carrier specific libraries in order to make things work. Yes, there's a VZWAPN APK. Yes, there's a SprintDM APK, there are also US Cellular-specific APKs in there, and there's probably some very T-Mobile and AT&T specific code if you want to dig for it. Christ, people. You have a phone that works on just about every network in the history of the world. Do you think that all happens just like magic without any involvement from any carrier at all?
And for those of you outside the US, clearly Google doesn't want to have to manage two separate ROMs for the Nexus 6 just over a few APKs, so yeah, your ROM is going to have APKs for US based carriers in it too. Somehow, I think you'll survive.
Come on, now. I know y'all are smarter than this.
I think its funny people are calling it bloat. Like its bing maps, skype or the samsung S apps.

We are smarter than that. That's why we freeze it. . It's just one of the things friends ask me is. Why do you like nexus phones and why should I switch? I tell them that nexus phones don't have all that bloatware carrier phones come with. And while it's still free of bloatware for the most part, I hope it's not a trend in the wrong direction. If they can install carrier apps depending on what carrier Sim, why weren't they able to keep these apps carrier specific? It's not THAT big of a deal for now but like I said I hope it doesn't go in the wrong direction.
My theory is that eventually the upcoming Google wireless service will be compatible across all 4 carriers. Imagine never having a coverage issue because you have a phone that works on all 4 concurrently with one service.

Yes. Unless someone cracks the bootloader. Verizon carries all the government contracts so they will never knowingly allow unlocked phones on their network. Honestly though I doubt you will find a more streamlined experience than stock Android on the Pixel. It was designed to run 7.1. I doubt any ROM will improve on it. The fact that Google is in control of the software as well means you will always be on the latest version.

Right. So I don't see anything about Verizon and not allowing carriers like Verizon to remove apps and features on their phones. They let them install bloatware Verizon apps that can be "deleted" but can they be uninstalled?
This isn't like Apple because Apple doesn't let Verizon "handle" their updates.
I bit the bullet and ordered a pixel xl, but nobody will know how Verizon will tamper with it until a new version of android releases.

Update [10/12/16]:?*Google and Verizon seem to have reached a revised and more firmly defined position on this matter. In a new statement provided this morning, Google now says: "Google controls the distribution of all OS updates and security patches for Pixel devices. OS updates and monthly security patches will be updated on all Pixel devices (Verizon and non-Verizon versions) simultaneously."
Everything I have read has stated the the VZ apps are uninstallable.
It is more like Apple for updates in this case. Google and Verizon both said Google will be pushing the updates.

Yeah the Nexus program was just google dabbling. They are going directly after apple with the Pixel. And hopefully other Android OEM's. Fragmentation has always been a problem and Google is finally starting to do something about it. iOS has always had the upper hand this way by controlled releases and software/hardware being designed together. That's exactly what the Pixel was made to compete with.
Just received my S8 today! Super stoked. Also, before I completely set up the phone, I didn't add any google accounts. I immediately went to disable all the bloatware and preinstalled apps I don't use. Not sure what Verizon did, but I was able to delete most of the bloatware that came on the device! The disable feature wasn't blocked out. Guess Verizon is finally giving the customers what they wanted. Was able to delete the following:
Verizon : Navigator, Caller ID, Cloud, Message+, NFL mobile, Slacker Radio & games
Google: Google Play/TV, Music, Hangouts ( I don't use any of these apps)

The model for the US versions are all the same except for Carrier specific S/W and bloat. Not much bloatware on VZW except noted in OP and a couple of games which I think are Samsung. There are a couple of Amazon apps which I use but otherwise its fairly clean.
Now to disable Bixby and remap the Bixby key.
Phone feels too narrow even to my smallish hands but very comfortable. No problems navigating so far.

FYI, I had uninstalled all of the Verizon bloat I was allowed to right when I got the phone(12pm cst). Just a few minutes ago after opening voicemail (it downloaded visual) I noticed all of the bloat was back and couldn't be uninstalled...
I went ahead and did a factor reset which let me remove it again. I have now disabled DT Ignite which I assume is being used to push the bloat again.

Thanks, I'm using Package Disabler Pro, but it's better to uninstall app to save space.

I just wish they would allow us to uninstall all of their crap. I still have Message+, Caller Name ID, VZ protect, and Cloud all of which I don't use. Also have voicemail and my Verizon which I use. So what.. really only got to uninstall a couple better than none I guess. Probably wasn't worth my time.

Took the most recent update. AQD9. None of the bloat came back.

Be sure you disable "DT Ignite". That is the app that install all the bloat.
Got this today

The ability to hide the navigation bar is nice.

Yeah, except the ability to really choose it's color beyond some very fluffy defaults, is gone.
Anyone been able to install daydream? This update was supposed to enable it for us but I can't install from the play store, still "unavailable." Sideloading the apk, it launches but gets to a point in setup that says the phone is not daydream ready. I could use daydream on my rooted HTC 10 and was really looking forward to having it back

Maybe it's something Google has to flip a switch on. The update just puts the groundwork in place and then Google has to add the device to a "blessed" list. Just a thought.
That's what I was thinking, I figured with the update being today and the latest apk on apkmirror being july 13th, they neex to update the app itself
Any other changes?

Well going to Best Buy to check out the unlocked version and see if it is different. If so buying it and dumping this Verizon version. I am tired of a provider having control over what is put on a device via firmware updates. I paid for the phone.

Well bought the SM-G955U1 and no more verizon crap. So far only missing Wi-Fi calling and I can live without that. Hopefully no more wierd updates. They can keep them.

As a follow up on this issue. It appears that the T-Mobile version also was updated with the same nav bar updates. So I contacted Samsung and with no surprise was just told Samsung is always updating firmwarer to enhance your experience. They could not state whether the same changes would come to the unlocked version. So I have 15 days to determine whether to return the unlocked one and figure out what this may make me do with the verizon version. I might be able to tolerate it but I am tired of paying large sums of money and having no control or say on what is added or removed from my device. I don't rant much but the idea of sneaking in some little change without noting it in update descriptions is not good business practice.

Sadly, I think the navbar color limitation will come to all models. I think they're doing this to try and reduce burn in. The color choice is so mild/mixed that it won't tax the pixels to as much of a total on/off state. It keeps them in line with the rest of the screen use. That's my theory anyway.

Yes, after reading numerous articles I agree. As George Carlin said. " There is club....and you and I ain't in it." (Paraphrased). So we just take what we get . Still debating the worth of this unlocked phone though.

I'm noticing since the update and possibly since the "Samsung Always on update" my Verizon S8+ seems to be warm in the back of the phone. The phone just seems to stay warm. My cpu temperature with no activity and the phone in my pocket is a constant 39.9-40.4 . I do use the "always on display", but can never ever remember my phone being warm all the time like that when I pull it out of my pocket. Strangely enough when removed from my pocket and in use the phone starts feeling cooler, cpu temperature at first going to 44.2, but with more use going down to 40.2. I've always had the setting to keep the screen off when the phone is in my pocket enabled.
Anyone else experiencing this ?

Ya the Navbar is totally screwed up after this update. I'm going to have to revert to the previous build

Good luck with the return. I tried to return my phone and ended up with nothing but lip service. I called four different times and was told four different times that a return shipping label would be e-mailed to me within five business days. Well....that was a month ago and I'm still waiting for that e-mail!!
