Galaxy S7 Edge - home button - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi,
I've got a galaxy s7 edge since a few days but I have some remarks.. :
- Home button feels tactile at the right, less tactile on the left, the right side makes clicking noise
(I thinks that's okay?) the left side doesnt make a 'clicking sound'
- A the top of the home button I can see some 'screen lighting' when using a white background
Anyone else gots this?

i had the same issue on my galaxy s6 edge and did immediately an exchange without problems.
Thats absolutely unacceptable for so a cost intensive phone.

Yes. I had encountered this when getting my phone today. Luckily sales allowed me to replace it.

My s7 edge is doing this after a few weeks of owning it.

Official "Living on The Edge" Note Edge owners Thread

Hey guys, just wanted to start this thread for those of us who have officially picked up the edge to post thoughts and impressions about this amazing new device!
I previously had the Docomo variant but sold it online. I now have the T-mobile version of the Edge and I am IN LOVE with this phone. I think Samsung has something big on their hands!
Really love the Edge screen and how it has so much available customization.
it doesnt really feel awkward holding the phone. And I noticed that the Edge screen does differentiate between me holding that part of the screen in my palm and my finger tips actually selecting something which is pretty cool!
Please post your thoughts!
BTW I picked up my edge from T-mobile in Atlanta(Lenox Mall) and they told me that people were waiting in line when they opened to get it. I was actually there a few hours after they opened and there were about 5 people already getting activated! Looks like this phone will be a success for Samsung!
Got one, will post my experience with it once I get a bit more time with it.
What sanctioning body is backing this thread to make it "Official?"
Got mine from AT&T in Duluth, GA.
--Mike
Picked mine up about 30 mins after open. I got it from Tmobile off Preston Rd in Frisco, TX they had a more than few left.
I absolutly love the phone so far. One thing I love is when I am playing a game or browsing the web and I get a phone call instead of it taking the hole screen I can accept or decline on the edge screen. The games on the edge screen are a nice touch. The battery not so happy with out of the box went from 56% out of box down to 8 in a few hours but we will see what happens when I full charge it. So far I have had it on the wall charge for about 20 minutes and went from 8% up to 43% so huge pro.
To those who have picked up the AT&T version, I'm just curious if it came in the ugly orange AT&T box or if it was the same packaging as seen I'm most unboxings. Not a big deal at all...just curious!
I find the phone to be great. It was a bit weird holding it at first since the trim stuck out some. But after a few minutes it was great.
Overall the phone is fast and smooth (coming from a note 3).
But the main thing. The EDGE. Its pretty damn great. I like how wide the screen is and how it just flows over.
The launcher is different but yet cool. Since there isnt icons on the bottom of the screen you have more room. (this is probably the same with the note 4 and s5 but new to me lol).
The edge has came in handy and for speeding up task and the floating windows is great. You gotta turn on mutli window then all you gotta do is drag from the left corner down and bam floating window.
Great phone.

From my past orders, purchases & exchanges, all of my preorders came in the OEM packaging whether it be Samsung or Apple. Refurbs, store bought or online orders of phones after official launch, usually come with the orange box. One guy posted his white Edge that he got from AT&T this morning and it came in the orange packaging. Again, that's just from my experience.

The incoming calls not blocking the entire screen is great! That's been a big pet peeve of mine forever.
I mean why can't I just dismiss the incoming screen without broadcasting to everyone that I just sent you to voicemail?

Can somebody make a Screensaver or animated background for the side screen of a waterfall or flow vertically as if over the edge?

Yea the way the screen falls of the edge is just exquisite! And let's not forget the news ticker and sports ticker from Yahoo which is really well done! Really cannot wait to see what devs come up for edge screen! Imagine a ESPN ticker hitting you with updates all day long! Note Edge FTW!

Purchased mine from Montebello mall, CA. The edge screen essentially replaced my circle launcher app and made it accessible from all apps. But there is one con I have noticed during my day of usage, and that is that I am still not sure how to access the brightness control of the notification area when playing a game in landscape mode with the edge screen on top (which I do from time to time). Not a big issue since all I have to do is rotate the phone so that the edge screen is facing down to access that.

Yes, that's are not a big issue, but just inconvenience.
I heard about Samsung developers, thats are necessarily concept for called the Edge Screen.
And they are also worried about it can't called the notification bars.
Maybe they are improved calling gesture, then we'll be convenient

I will be getting my Galaxy Note Edge from T-Mobile on Monday (11/17/2014) I ordered it Friday (11/14/2014) and I paid it in full ($950 after taxes and shipping) so I will post my experience when I get it but I am also waiting on my case to come on 11/25/2014 the UAG Maverick case for the Note Edge
Jso far all has been great. I have had more time with it and it's very easy to get use to.
I have found out that you can turn off edge notify for all apps. It's in the settings. I remember some saying it was bugging them that they get a text message and its displayed on the edge.
But question, have anyone figured out how to edit the second edge panel short cuts. The one with t mobile WiFi, gallery, and email.
I can edit the first one but the second one I can not.

Yeah, the Live UX panel - even worse on mine. It had all sk telecom apps, since I managed to hide & delete some, it is now just showing one single app. Can't figure out a way to edit this panel at all.

Thanks for the info. Too bad, you can't choose to have the preview of a text scroll either on the edge or at the top. from what I could see in the AT&T store, you only had the option for the edge, or a pop up. I like seeing the preview scroll when I'm driving.

Loose Home Button?

Received my S7 Edge Black a couple days ago in the UK direct from Samsung online, all great apart from the Home Button feels very loose as in tapping it lifting your finger/thumb off quickly gives a loose feeling and the sound as if it is loose the same as if I shake the device you can here the button moving around slightly. My previous S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus and S6 Active (I know, I was trying to find the best one and settled funnily enough with the Active!) did not have this issue. It doesn't particularly bother me but does doesn't feel particularly premium because of it and I was just wondering how widespread this this?
Definately sound like a fault. Mine is nice and stiff.

Mine is also firm and fine unlike my old s6 that is loose..

It's not a problem..
Hey,
The Home button will have play in it since its raised and actually depresses into the phone. Other brand have had the same type of button but had the button sunken into the display and was round and convave, so you wouldn't feel it, but most still did wiggle. I have the regular Sammy s7 and the home button moves in the slightest on the left side if I make it move.
I've tried roughly 4-5 stores in the montreal area and every single one did it regardless if it was the regular model or edge. So I wouldn't be concerned about it. If you look at the home button's diagram online, you'll see that the Button's flex cable is to the right side of the button creating less space tolerence. So since there's isn't anything on the left of the button, you'll notice that there is less resistance creating slight movement.
Some phones will have it more than others but you can count on all samsung s7's to eventually have some kind of play/wiggle on the left side of the button. So In my opinion, I wouldn't exchange the phone for this type of issue unless the button didn't register being pressed properly. For example, the s6 was indeed manufactured differently and felt loose when lightly touched or tapped on. So it wouldn't always register presses properly. But thats not the case here and I wouldn't worry about it.
Hope that helps!

Flaky Home Button

Hi All -
I notice a weird issue with my home button. Sometimes my home button fails to register a normal tap on the left-ish side. If I press down in the center, it works fine.
Furthermore, if I hold down the home button towards the right side to launch google on-tap, it will launch, but if I use the same kind of pressure on the left, it doesn't launch. I really have to press down on the left side to launch it. Does anyone else experience this issue? Should I exchange it? If I were to guess around 14/15 home button clicks register.
ETA - I just uploaded this video, you should be able to see the issue pretty clearly. (Sorry it's sideways.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9vZ0aQnLdw

I have the same exact issue - just as you described.
Since I have Jump On Demand, and I won't be upgrading to anything this year until the Note 6, I'll probably just wait 3 months or so then Jump to a brand new S7 Edge instead of dealing with an exchange and all that drama. It's an issue, sure, but a minor one and doesn't really affect how I use the phone.
I have already adapted to pushing more firmly and in the middle. Crisis averted lol

I had same problem. I returned it and got a refund, now purchased a new one which works fine.
Definitely a fault that will continue to annoy so best to get a replacement.
Had the same thing.. Go refunded since there are no s7edge on stock yet

So it seems like a pretty common problem I'm guessing. I'm still trying to figure out if I should return it or not. Or if its worth it.
Other than lackluster battery life and the home button, the phone is perfect with no display tinting/issues so I'm a little worried if I exchange, I might get a bad display.
Decided to gamble and return it. I don't think this should be happening on a $800 device. Really hope its fixed on my next one, and without other issues.

Mine has a tiny amount of play in it, but I'm not risking my otherwise perfect device because there are too many other risks. As long as it doesn't break it's not bothering me.
My Home button seems okay with one big exception. The fingerprint sensor. It has trouble picking up my fingerprint. There is noticeable lag recognizing the fingerprint when it's coming back from sleep. It unlocks on the first try about 50-60%. The rest take 2 or 3 tries. Once it failed enough times I was locked out. Retraining didn't help.
Also, the button's right side is more clicky (in a good way) and responsive than the left, which is harder to push down. This gives the button an odd switch-like response. But it does work besides the fingerprint so I'm hesitant to exchange it.
For anyone who says it's wiggly or has play, is it as bad as this S6 video? From what I gather, every Samsung phone has a bunch of these issues with the home button. Most people are affected, some worse than others, some not at all. Mine is nowhere near as bad as this video, you have to look very close to see the slight bit of movement and the click is nowhere near this loud.

Bumping this up so more people answer. Still undecided what to do.
same issue on the left side its sometimes unresponsive..............
Hmm this is interesting. My girlfriend said the left side of her home button was loose but mine has been fine. I guess it's actually a defect and she should exchange it for a new one. Just wonder if Tmo will accept it for an exchange.
Went to exchange mine because of the home button and found out that every single demo unit was fine, and each one had a home button that was raised up from the screen. Mine is almost flush. Problem is no stores have any in Stock

It's just luck of which one you get I have an unresponsive left side home button as well... But probably gonna stick this one out... This is my 3rd S7 edge... Fist one had low microphone.... 2nd had pink tinted screen... This one is perfect and bright... Would rather have a perfect screen and power button than a mushy home button... So I'm done exchanging.... I had an S6 that rattled just like the video.... Took it back and the next one started a month later...... First thing I checked on these phones..... My black G935 home button is pretty flush to the glass unlike my girlfriends silver one that doesn't have any issues

I have exactly the same issue on my s7 edge bought from amazon.co.uk (I'm from Greece). Official service here in Greece told me that the Home Button is manufactured to working properly only when I press it at the center, so mine have no problem!!! This answer is bull ****!!!!
Is there any global Samsung customer support mail to send an email to replace my Home button or my phone?

Bump this to say my s7e black pearl which was manufactured in 01/2017 also have a home button which is not responsive on the left
This must be an issue for a lot of samsung phone.

Home button issue

Hi
I have my s7 edge for 3 weeks now, and I started to notice that when I press the edges of the home button it sometimes won't register a click.
What I do is just press an edge of the button with my fingernail with low amount of pressure to create this issue.
I can't return it because it's been too long, and I'm afraid to use my warrenty because I'm afraid it won't remain water proof...
What would you do?
I have same thing. It's waterproof. Don't worry about it.

No. This is absolutely not normal. My old device had the issue and I made a video of it and exchanged it. My new one doesn't have the issue.

Mine doesn't have that issue. The "edges" react the same as the middle of the button.

Had this too.... It drove me nuts...its a button shouldn't have to think about pressing it in the middle everytime.... If your still in your grace return period I would exchange it....
I thought I could live with mine but after 2 days I had to return it.... Replacement was perfect...
Edit* Oops noticed you've had it for 3 weeks.... Most companies give you only 14 days...... Guess you may have to just live with it........Is your fingerprint sensor working good?.... The biggest problem I had was I always hold my phone in my left hand then use my thumb to press the home button.... But hitting it on the left part of the button worked 1 out of 5 times.... You'll just have to get used to pressing in the middle

I have the exact same issue with mine, strangely it only became more apparent after about 3 weeks of owning it, meaning I would have to send my device off for repair now; I've decided to live with the issue for now and see how it goes. Personally I don't think they will say anything.... Samsung quality control has always been a little shady.... Actually this was the first Samsung phone I didn't have to take back since the S2.... But after a couple of days I realized people could barley hear me cause my microphone was I supposed to and out.... Got replacement and everything was perfect ? except the damn home button!.... So one more return later and now I have a perfect screen and a buttons work great
....... I'm really picky and OCD about phones when I get them.... I took my S6 back twice also.... Had a home button rattle and also dust under the screen...... If you ever get sick of it... I use button Savior app.... It replaces all your hardware buttons but you can gesture it or put an onscreen trigger to open it..... I like it better than other onscreen buttons because its always hidden until you need it

Mine does the same thing even when I pressed in the middle. I had to click twice since it didn't register the first one. Happened about 5 times but since I received an update from Tmobile, it doesn't happen anymore, or yet... Hopefully it'll stay that way.

It's kinda nice to know that I'm not the only one who cares about those annoying issues...
When i realized i have an issue it was already 2 days passed the 14 days so...
When i approached a samsung rep he told me that this is how the button works, and that i can send it to the lab but its going to take a few days so i passed..
Anyways i dont want my phone to be opened, I'm too scared waterproofing will be lost...

This is something a certified repair center can easily handle without losing the waterproofing. Certified centers have been trained to fix these models, and they have all the tools to do so, while uncertified repair centers won't necessarily have the training, and they won't have the official tools, so they can't guarantee that the waterproofing is still intact after a repair. If an official Samsung rep told you it could be fixed or whatever, then I'm sure it should be fine. You have warranty, and it should be used for things like this.
If you send it in, you'll probably sit where you are now in a week or so with a fully functioning device, or you can just ignore it and still sit where you sit now in a week with a defect device. I would do it.

I would send it in too..... But sometimes it can take 6 weeks... I had to send an S4 in once and it came back almost 2 months later.... If it's something you can't live with send it back..... But you should have a 1 year warranty if anything actually goes wrong with it...... It is a pretty widespread issue in the Galaxy S7 edge line hopefully they get it fixed in later batches.... But if it were me I would probably deal with it rather than send my brand new phone out... Unless they can guarantee you a return date

Pink Lines on Screen

Wondering if anyone else has run into this issue. The other day I noticed that in apps with a white background color, I would have horizontal pink lines on the screen, sometimes vertical, too. It drove me crazy enough that I went to the Samsung service center close to where I live, and the guy flat out just told me that the screen needed to be replaced. I didn't leave the phone with them because I kind of need it, but I will have to eventually.
Weird thing is that there are no dead pixels - all the pixels are fine and went through the pixel test with no issues.
Anyone else experiencing this? Pretty frustrating since I got the phone less than 2 months ago.

Hey I think I might be having a similar problem, it started to happen yesterday and about a third of my phone is now constantly turning pink. If your problem is like the one below then let me know and I'll keep you informed in what Samsung say when I contact them later today
Just realised I can't post links yet but the images are here imgur(dot)com/a/YBA5o
Same thing started happening to me a few hours ago.
Definitely a hardware fault.
Mine was purple smudges and washed out, sent out they replaced the phone, its a hardware/factory defect.
Yeah definitely a hardware problem. I took a screenshot of the pink and sent it to my computer so I could view it there, and the screenshot was absolutely fine and pink free on my computer, so yeah, hardware problem like the people at Samsung said.
Just sucks that I can't get a replacement unit because I am over the 30 day period. That is just bull**** if you ask me. The phone is still brand new and doesn't even have a hairline scratch on it.
Sorry to necro this thread but the same thing happened to me again, after the screen was replaced the first time. Now it's gone in for a second time. I think this is a pretty well known issue with certain S7 Edge productions. Really even scared of the Note 7 now because I believe it's happening because of the edge panel.
2nd phone with the same issue, 1st time they replaced the phone for brand new, now the same problem... it happens only on s7 edge duo?
Past 31st I bought the S7edge black pearl version. When the Samsung sales executive unboxed and switch on those pink lines were displaying. I was shocked to see those. Immediately they asked me to wait and replaced a new one. I waited for an hour there and browsed my phone completely so that there will no major disappointment.
Just shared this incident on seeing this thread.
