So, working fine since Tuesday. All well and good. Love the device, everything I expected.
Until today.
Started getting this message whenever I open the camera app and can't for the life of me explain why. I've installed no new apps, all is the same as it was yesterday.
Tried clearing data, tried clearing cache partition, tried reboots. Nothing. Dead.
I swore to myself my Note 4 would be my last Samsung after that went tits up and now here I am again.

As a last ditch try a factory reset. If still dead, yeah, time to exchange.

So I figured before I annihilate my many hours of customisation I'd attempt a 'Reset all settings' from backup & reset. It's done the trick thankfully, but I'd like to know why it happened in the first place!

If the reset cured it it means it's a software bug that will likely be eliminated in one of the next updates. I wouldn't worry about it.
This has happened to my wife on the S4, S5, and S6. I could fix it on all of them except the S5 and had to exchange it. I have only ever seen this on Samsung phones

Yep exactly, thankfully not hardware. Wondering whether to make a post on Samsung forums or submit a ticket. It could be a real downer on the experience for some.

Same thing here - really frustrating.
A cache wipe fixed it but returned after a reboot. Is only fixable via a factory reset but this doesn't seem to hold out long - no more than 30 minutes and the problem has returned.
Thought it might be the sd card but ruled that out and now it doesn’t even work in safe mode.
Possible Solution - Turn off Report Diagnostics Info & Try all the above steps including wipe cache partition, clear app data, reset settings.

Interesting - this worked thanks! Until I rebooted again. I'm going to talk to Samsung in a bit.... see what happens!
Hi all
the issue is caused by the SD storage
by default when u put the SD card the folder for pics saving changes to the SD
However - a handful of users have issues with the SD card being read by the system (me included)
this will cause this fatal corruption on the camera app
no need to factory reset - just simulate a battery removal (hold volume down+power for 20 secs) - that will fix it
also you need to remove and format the SD card
this is a bug that hopefully will be fixed in a future release

Thanks for the Information i have had the same Problem with my German s7 Edge since day one. I cleared Data etc than reboot and it worked for maybe 1 day. No information about this on German Forums. I was sure it has to do something with the SD Card. So will try the steps from above thanks
reset setting also fixed the issue, no loss of data etc....

Just got off the phone with Samsung (UK) - was interesting.
The tech support guy advised it is faulty and should be replaced - the shop line are saying they've received a number of enquiries about this error and are "stopping" the option to send your phone back to be replaced as they don't want to then send out a replacement that has the same issue. So I'm advised to return the whole lot (including the Gear VR) for a refund and place a new order... which will mean loosing the Gear VR.
It's not due to the SD card because mine did the same without a SD card inserted.
I fixed by wiping the cache (but I had to do that twice)
In safe mode, the camera works perfectly & doesn't show "Camera Failed" at all.

UPDATE : Error caused by Google Play Services
The error is caused by Google Play Services.
Uninstalling updates to Google Play Services & restarting you phone will give a temporary solution.
After restarting your camera will work but if you restart your phone, the error comes again.
Unfortunately, there isn't a permanent fix to this problem as Google Play Services will auto-update itself.
You can always confirm a hardware issue by dialing *#0*# to test the hardware.

Couldnt help myself. But for real, you could help us help you help us all by giving more information.. What message are you talking about removing? What, if anything, have you tried to resolve the random reboot (im assuming) issue? And what is a fake lock for the bl, if there is such a thing I missed it. Have you done a wipe + fresh flash.?

You live in Bloomington, it IS more than likely Aliens.
umm, I think you're implying you're trying to hide the fact that your phone's been rooted and bootloader unlocked, so you can safely return it? Are you returning to Asurion or AT&T?
Or are you implying something else??
Sorry, I didn't realize how vague that was until after I re-read it.
There's a process so the the unlocked message doesn't show. Then, I was planning on reloading the stock 2.3.4 rom through RSD. I bought the phone at a Best Buy Mobile so I was just going to turn it in for another Atrix...possibly something else. I was warned off the phone when I went in to buy it because of the number that get returned but I liked it anyway.
I don't know if it's necessarily shutting off so much as becoming unresponsive. The problem occurs after playing a game for a little while, or something similar that would make the phone a little warm. Whenever I finish, and I lock the screen, it won't unlock and the power button literally does nothing. I have to pull the battery, then I hit the power button and it boots right up.
I've been on 3 roms all with clean wipes, and they all do it.
Thats what we call "the sleep of death". Its unfortunate thats been happening, i have had that prob on the Captivate but not on the Atrix *knock on wood*. Are you using a custom kernel, OC/UV, SetCPU or a similar voltage control app? Those types of things was what had caused the SoD for me..
Edit: in this thread somebody is reporting he had the issue only when WiFi was always on, and Green Power fixed it, a similar app is Juice Defender. Those apps periodically turn the wifi on to save power (instead of having it on constantly). Another user said putting his phone in "performance mode" resolved the issue, thats in settings under battery.
I can confirm I have my wifi set to always on. I was using CM7's powersave governor but I just changed it over to performance. If this is not happening to everyone's Atrix I still think it would be worth me taking it back in to get a different one. We'll see what happens with the governor change.

After changing to performance the phone reboots itself a few minutes after the game is over instead of just freezing. I think this is pure hardware defect.
It could be a hardware defect. I have always used performance mode. When I was on Froyo I had a bunch of random reboots but since gb I dont see many anymore. Every now and then I get a reboot but never a sleep of death (maybe because
Ive never used powersave?). There are many other threads about the reboots and I agree with what I read once that instead of an actual reboot it is a graphical shell crash. The reason I agree with this is because once during a call I experience one of these reboot/ graphic shell crashes and was able to continue my conversation the whole time the phone was "booting", my call never disconnected.

I'll be taking it back in either today or tomorrow depending on how much time I get. I wouldn't mind dealing with this periodically, but I can pretty much count on freezing or a reboot after running a game for longer than 5 minutes.
I cleared everything off and ran the official firmware off RSD, now the phone just boots the AT&T logo splash screen and starts over.

If you have the option, I'd recommend the Inspire4G, if you're sticking with AT&T.
It's like the Atrix but . . . well, it has a bigger screen Not as easy to root though.

I was looking at that one, almost exactly like my Thunderbolt. I don't think it has the horespower the Atrix does though. We'll see what happens. The screen no longer says unlocked, so I should be OK.
I went into Android Recovery off of boot up but I don't get the factory reset options or anything. No buttons or any touch area on the screen bring up options on the recovery menu.
I was finally able to get a recovery done from the boot menu after finding out Motorola's instructions are crap. Since the recovery, the phone hasn't done a boot loop or shut off/restarted. Hopefully we're all good now.
My Atrix does the sleep of death on average 2 times a day. That being said sometimes it doesn't happen for a day, but the next has 4 sod's. My phone has exhibited this behavior since day one. Stock, unlocked, and multiple kernel and radio combinations all result in sod's. Took it to ATT and was told the phone just does that and any replacement will likely do the same thing.

my phone has never done the sleep of death, and i'm sure a lot of people here have never experienced it either.
you got a crappy customer service rep who just didn't feel like replacing your phone.
I still have my fingers crossed, but in the 30 or so hours since I had the full reset done at the boot menu the phone is not getting as hot, and it's not doing the sleep of death. I played a few games, watched vides, etc, and it's coming out of sleep like it should. The good news is BB Mobile has a 30 day return policy on their phones instead of AT&T's 14, so if I continue to have trouble I can take it in.

I'm not at the menu now, but I believe the options are actually brought up by holding in volume up and volume down at the same time (I don't remember if the power button was involved...
The Motorola instructions call for tapping the screen but that didn't do it, thus my comment than that their instructions were ****.
Also, as an update, still no sleep of death since the reset.

I do not have that problem.
Have you checked to see if there are any apps syncing when it happens?
I had to remove twitter from my phone for this reason. It would sync but get stuck or something and the phone would sit there for 10+ minutes with the screen on.
had this issue since I bought it. Both with wifi on or off it either wakes up then goes back to sleep or it wakes up drains the battery and the screen goes black so I have to hold power down then reboot
Any news on this?
Any news on this "wake from sleep" issue? I've updated wife's tablet to acer7.006.01_CUST_ROOT_BBv2_S.zip and it still occurs. Is it fixed with any other ROMs or Kernels? Please don't say OTA 3.2
Before the gift wrapping, I had done the OTA upgrade to 3.2 before reading in the forums that there was no way to root it yet. So I had to go do the recommended downgrade to get back to 3.0.1 rooted so that I could upgrade to the custom rooted 3.2. I really don't wanna go through that again
here is a 3.2 stock update you can flash which is rooted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290318
i upgraded to it and it hasn't solved the sleep wake issue it seems but i also didn't wipe before flashing. i'll probably do a full backup this week of my apps and wipe then flash it and hopefully it works
I'm having a similar problem, when I plug it in at night my music program comes alive and starts playing all of my music. I heard it downstairs last night. I have both the stock Acer Media program and the one called Music, and both seem to want to come alive and play music at random times.

Same here, and it also stay on until the battery is dead...So so so annoying...I tried everything but i can't find a solution..
Running stock 3.2 rooted and still have just the sleep problem. If I disable wifi my tab sleeps fine, but I usually only sleep the tab for a few hours and turn off at bedtime.
Have you people thought that it could perhaps be some background application running that wishes to use Internet and thus wakes the tablet up? You could install CWM, make a full backup of your tablet, then wipe the tablet and restart it, and skip restoring settings or applications. Then just see for one day if the problem persists; if it doesn't then it's almost definitely something you have installed that's causing the issue.

If only it were that simple. Yes, I have tried that to no avail. Other posters have done so as well (see prev messages in this thread and the 3.2 US thread)
I think I found the problem for this, at least for me is working since yesterday night...Is also so stupid that maybe is why some people get it and others no...However i just disabled the "notify me when a open network is avaiable" in the wifi setting and my tablet is sleeping without problems... Try it and let me know...
That setting was enabled on mine as well and I too have the wake issues.
Just turned it off. I'll let you know how it goes.

Cool thanks i'll try when i get home
Since the kit kat update on my note 3 (N9005) I have been experiencing problems with the phone failing to wake up from standby.
This sometimes happen a few times a day, or it could be a few days before it happens
Basically, it would work normally, and occasionally when I either open the s view or try to press the power/home button to turn the screen on, the screen would remain black and nothing happens. If I hold the power button the reset the phone it then normally works for a while but the same problem would come back after a period of time.
I have never experienced this with 4.3 so I suspect this must be a software problem.
I haven't rooted or tripped know btw.
Has anyone also had this problem?
PS: has any of yous also had the problem with the music player crashing and then refusing to play music until after a reboot?

Did you do an OTA update to 4.4.2 from 4.3? If so, that could be possibly why you're experiencing problems upgrading from 4.3 to 4.4.2, as it was essentially a dirty upgrade. Try factory resetting your device, and if the problem still persists, reflash stock ROM.

The problem hasn't came back for the last few days without the lockscreen.
However I'm not very happy with that a flagship device has to switch off the lockscreen in order to function properly though.
It's Samsung's fault. The original Google lockscreen just fine Samsung add some extra load with custom cover integrated with locking mechanism, that's where the problem lies.

It was perfectly fine with the old 4.3 lockscreen. In 4.4 not only they downgraded the music widget to blasting a pixelated album art across your screen and not letting you choose your songs, they make it completely unusable.
Wish they had just kept 4.3's lockscreen.

After 2 weeks trouble free after turning the lockscreen off, the problem with the phone not waking up occasionally has came back again.
Seriously, since MJ1 samsung has just made this phone worse and worse with each update, and you can't even roll back like other devices. Just bring back MJ1 and i'll be happy.

Now that motorola dropped the bomb and even the update page it's public, I want to know how you guys feel with the update, please don't ask for off topic matters, like unrooting or going back to stock.
What do you think of lollipop?
What do you think about motorola?
Are you getting better battery life?
For me I had better battery on lollipop than kitkat
Did you get the update to 5.1 on your turbo as well? How is the camera shutter speed after the update?
Can one of you who has the update please extract the system.img so we can get to work on trying to create a rooted build? This is being requested by http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3147455
If you don't know how to do so I'm sure Computerfreek can assist. Some of us are unable (such as myself) to take the update so please help. That is what this community is all about.

Pm'd you the link from root junky with the ota. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it here so I'll just keep the mess in pm.
No big reason to hate it much at all. Loving the pull-down menu! Too much white, though.

I updated with the rootjunky soak after checking its md5. Had the phone plugged in for the duration and let it update as I was going to bed. Woke up to a fully functional Lollipop, and haven't had any of the issues others are mentioning. Never rooted.
I didn't remember they stopped letting you change mobile data on/off automatically. I have horrible reception at work and like to turn off mobile data to save battery, and now I'll have to remember to manually change it. Luckily it's only four steps -_- (two-finger swipe down to get to quick settings, click on the cell icon, click the toggle on the top right, accept the confirmation dialog box). Three steps to turn it on - there's no confirmation.
Similar issue with location services: if you turn it off/on through the quick settings, it automatically changes it to High Accuracy instead of the previous setting (like Battery Saving). Luckily, Google changed the way locations are handled last year and this shouldn't be as big of an impact on battery as it had been previously.
The volume modes are going to be a headache to explain to my parents who also have Turbos. Glad I updated before they do...

We have to wait for Verizon or Moto release the full firmware and then you can patch it, I'm waiting for that too, for the firmware list
I absolutely love the new 5.1 Lolipop. Seems much smoother, faster, better overall appearance. Can't wait to really dig into this and see how the battery life is compared to stock 4.4.4
Overall: huge fan and love it!!
I've been very happy with 5.1 on the Turbo. Honestly, the Turbo seems to run 5.1 much better than my Nexus 9. I haven't had any major problems. I did, however, run into one odd issue that might just be a coincidence. I noticed after updating that I wasn't able to connect to my Verizon Network Extender, even though I still had Advanced Calling disabled (if Advanced Calling is on, and you have an LTE connection, you'll use that over a Network Extender). The Network Extender worked fine with other VZW devices. This went on for about a day, and then it magically started working again.
Forgive me if I over looked it, but I noticed now when I turn my phone volume down to silence it it just goes on vibrate rather than just silent with no vibrate. Did that feature disappear? I hate to be picky but I like to have it on silent while at work and I can't stand having it on vibrate.

Did an OTA update a few hours ago. Didn't bother with a factory reset and so far no issues that I am aware of. Silky smooth.

press the volume key and click on the bell on the left, now you are on vibrate
I took the OTA, did a factory reset, and set it up as a new phone; not restoring any backups. It's installing lots of app updates right now, so I haven't done much with it, but I haven't noticed any new bugs. Unfortunately, Lollipop hasn't fixed the wi-fi bug where my phone continually disconnects and reconnects to my wi-fi. It may just be a problem with certain routers (mine is a Belkin N750 DB), but I've got the latest available firmware on my router, too, and everything else works fine with it. I think it's time to see if I can get a warranty replacement.
I'm liking the karate chop light feature!

I had that router for 7 or 8 years. towards the 6 year mark - it started dropping all my devices randomly so I bought a Cisco AC router and nothing has dropped off once unless I rebooted it or someone "accidently" unplugs it. In my case it was my router that was dropping my client devices off and this was before I bought my DT.

Thank you, but I just want a silence feature without the vibration. Any way to do that?

pull all the lever volume down
The update fixed the main problem I had with the phone. I play music from my phone to my car's system (Ford Sync) through bluetooth, and it used to not be able to start playback again after returning to my car without me having to manually toggle bluetooth off & on to reconnect it. Now it starts up right where it left off without me having to mess with it, like my old HTC phone did.
I haven't had much time to explore the update yet, but so far so good. I did OTA with no factory reset and everything seems fine.

Try the app "SoundHUD" (haven't myself, but supposedly gives a silent mode).

I'm having an issue with my S7 Edge.
When my wifi is on, it's fine, stays connected, all good. But when it's off, it switches on about every .5 seconds then back off again. It does this CONSTANTLY and completely drains my battery and my phone gets so hot.
Please watch the video to see what I mean:

Ive had the phone since April, it was fine until last week. I took it to Geek Squad, they gave me a brand new phone straight from the box, and here I am on day 2 and the new phone is doing the same thing. It must be a software problem but I can't figure it out.
The technicians at the Samsung store said they've seen it a handful of times, apparently it's a new issue but they don't know the cause (they were kind of useless).
Please help meeee my phone dies 3 times/day it's so annoying.
Mine is doing the same thing lately and hasn't before, in fact it's doing it right now. I guess i have to reboot and keep WiFi off until we can figure out what's causing it.
I'm on the nougat beta if that makes a difference.

Here is the fix
Mine was doing the same. It seems to be the Google play services update, just uninstall the updates of the Google play services and it will fix. Hope Google fix this soon

Also instead of uninstalling the updates you can just just force quit the Google play services app, but you will have to repeat this process when you turn your wifi on again.
Yeah, that appears to be the culprit.
I've tested and WiFi remains off, when turned off, after being on.
But now i have this issue...

Which sucks since I use Google fit for step counting.
(I'll make due until next update but hope Google knows this is occurring)
* I just sent them an email about the bug

I just figured out another fix in other thread, go to the location settings and disable wifi scanning.
1.Location/Improve accuracy.
2.Disable Wi-Fi scanning.
Mine did the same just after the BPJH update. I wiped everything and installed BPJG, superman rom and everything is good now.

When mine did this, a cache wipe from recovery fixed it.
