[Q] Oppo FInd 5 supports AOSP today, what about tomorrow

Hi, I have seen news about Oppo releasing the Kernel Source and supporting the AOSP community (the same Sony and HTC right now).
My question is, when Android 5.0 and a CM11 is released, does this source or information already released today about the device works for future releases of AOSP based ROMs without the support of the company?
Trying to be clear, Oppo (Sony and HTC too...) release some source today, but the next year they don't support this model, can the AOSP ROMs implement a new stable version using that last year released source from a prior Android version?

No one knows. We would hope so, but no one would really know. Maybe.

kernel-wise - the cyanogenmod team has been able to merge it with the Qualcom sources, so if Qualcom keeps it up to date (most likely yes), then that's no problem (also, nexus 4 shares a lot of the same underlying hardware: CPU/SoC, GPU... that device will get updates, which could be ported over)

proprietary library-wise - maybe? sometimes, they're compatible cross-android version, sometimes not, and you have to do workarounds to make it work on the new version.... could also steal libraries from other devices (see nexus 4 again)

[Question] Port hammerhead AOSP builds

Since the device specs meet almost the same to Nexus 5, is it possible to build hammerhead AOSP builds (as is, or official AOSP) for our Note 3?
I was thinking since the M developer preview 3 is out, if anyone could port it for our device.

It would be still difficult, I think we should wait for Google to release M source code and then the developers work from there

Android Nougat RELEASED!!!!! Honor 8?!!

Android Nougat is officially released (See the Android website) :victory:
Since Honor didn't release (yet) the kernel source, let's hope when its released (SOOOOOOON PLZ) :fingers-crossed: it gets the proper treatment, a PURE stock-Android based on Nougat. Devs, if you hear me, we don't want marshmallow based ROM's :laugh:

Haha I am sure that will be something to look at depending on the release source and everything that comes with it to build a good PURE stock android based nougat

Android 8.0 Oreo is being pushed to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) for everyone to access today. The update builds for Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Pixels has entered into carrier testing, and Google expects the phased roll out to begin soon alongside that of the Pixel C and Nexus Player. Google is also working closely with OEM partners like Essential, General Mobile, HMD Global, Huawei, HTC, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sharp and Sony to ensure that new devices are either launched with Android 8.0 Oreo or are upgraded to the latest sweet. Further, devices in the Android Beta Program will also receive this final version.
So this means its time for new roms to pop up all across the board, for many devices.
We all have been waiting so patiently.

I'm using Nexus 6P. What happens if I opt in for Enrol Device now, I mean which release will I get the OTA., a beta version or the final Android 8.0 release.?

Should be final since the reveal already happened. Overheard they started rolling out releases already. Not beta.

yea from what I read the Pixel nexus and aosp have been released officially and all other carriers to follow suit as they finish
i guess its the dev preview

Thank you Huskied. I did the update by enrolling the beta programme, I got the final release.
And yeah, this is something like a force update, if the OTA didn't hit the device.

Well it depends on our devs
J5 is low ended phone but we have 5or6 pie rom for it!(if I don't make mistake)
Android Q is support 32 bit phones so it's possible
But as l said it depends on our devs
Hope that see one very soon

Why would the devs that we have port Android 10?
Our devs aren't noob build bots they build from source and not port.
There is currently a few people working on Android 10 and have been working on it since September.
It is proving to be a lot more difficult than previous versions of Android so it is not a guarantee that you will see Android 10 on this device.
Alot of hours have been put into it so it would be a shame to see that all go to waste.
Also I can't see our stubborn devs just giving up after all that work so just wait

Dev of Evolution X told in their J5 thread that they're working.( In September if I recall correctly)
