I am using iphone 5s, before that I had used many android phones such as NOTE 1&2, HTC M7, Vega R3 etc,
I choose iphone because it's stable and the quality of camera and Selfie is nice, the figerprint is also one of the reasons.
Now I am considering to go back to Android and considering S5 because of its new camera functions, figerprint scanner, about 5 inch mon (I don't consider if the mon is too large), IP67.
But many negative posts/ news stated S5 is not worth, and some stated it's over-heat and lag!
Does anyone can comment the overall performance of S5? and advise me. Thanks!!
I swithed from 5s to nexus 5 a couple of months ago and now I'm on galaxy s5. I can say for myself that iPhone 5 was overheating a lot. I do not feel any heat on my Samsung. Camera is very good but compared to 5s the difference is not so huge. The biggest difference is the screen and battery life. I would say it's really worth to switch. Performance wise it's the same. Quality build wise off course ip5s is well built but try to drop it... and try to drop it into the water ☺. I have it for a couple of weeks and I would not switch back to 4 inch screen anymore.

There's no real answer to this, because they are so different. No one can tell you which suits you the best, because they're not you. If you really value the key differences in the S5 over the 5s, then you don't let the minor bugs bother you. But the question is do you?

Thanks for your words! It is helpful to me!
5S is quite beautiful design, but 4 inch ips is really made my eyes tired.
I just wonder why many people would say S5 is not good and some are saying that is lag.
Because I think Samsung is not bad while I was using Note 1 & 2.

Actually I love these 2 phones, I just want to have some solutions (or feedback after using s5) on why many people would say S5 is not good and some are saying that is lag.

Depends on what you want from a smartphone and how much it will cost. The S5 offers a great screen, excellent battery life, very usable camera, IP certification and IR blaster, it's maybe the most well rounded multimedia smartphone today. The 5S still keeps it simpler, smaller, bit faster, as you'd expect from an iPhone. Both are pretty good for their usage type.

You can find many people saying many things from the internet, some say that iPhone 5s is not good. Samsung lags a bit yes, because of touchwiz, but that will get better with updates. And even if it didn't, it still wouldn't be any worse then the notes you've used. So you won't be disappointed in that matter.
I myself have the iPhone 5 and was considering to switch for a S5, but then decided to wait for iOS 8/ galaxy s5 premium / galaxy note 4 / iPhone 6 because I don't NEED to buy a new phone yet, as I'm still quite happy with my iPhone. But if I had to buy a new phone right now, then I'd go for the S5 or maybe even HTC M8.
I have always enjoyed iPhone. I have owned all of them since the very first one.
Android has caught up in terms of speed, stability and fluidity.
Android has surpassed the iPhone in terms of screen size and quality and battery life. My iPhone 5s couldn't make it to the afternoon on a charge without plugging in, and it is nicer viewing content on a large screen. These are the two reasons I am currently using one of the current Android flagship (gs5 at the moment).
When apple debuts a phone with a five inch 1080p screen and comparable battery life, I will buy another iPhone.

Its either you change to 5S and embrace and love what it has to give you or just stay on what you're lovin' right now.
I played around with a friends S5 and i realy was dissapointed with the device and i believe that upgrading from the S4 would be a waste of money for me considering the costs. I use a Note 3 (N9005) and overall performance is better imho, has a bigger battery a more RAM. Future updates will surely make the device better as always but out of the box atm the price of 650 euro`s where i live is too high for this phone. Not ranting just my 2 cents
well..finally I come back to Samsung with S5!!!
It is not bad device and I think it's a bit lag because the touchwiz , but for me, it's accpetable!
16GB is really not enough...but I am not used to use SD card..
I thought I'd post a thread for my fellow S6 users planning to move to the N5X.
I had the S6 with me since the launch day itself. I was hoping that due the popularity of the S lineup there could be CM support just like S3 had.
After almost 9 months of waiting I finally gave up.
Yes there is CM for S6 but it is no where near stability. Without a maintainer there wont be any. Samsung will never release sources for exynos.
These facts however cold they maybe are straight forward facts. The CM source we have has a lot of work to be done, and I am not talking about 2 or 3 lines of code. Hals need to be written from scratch and tested. I believe in open source mindset. If I have paid almost 800 usd for a piece of hardware I should have the right to put whatever software I want.
So finally I moved to the 5X.
1) The build does not feel cheap, its lighter than the s6 yet sturdy and does not feel fragile.
2) The power button is not as tactile as the one on the S6.
3) Display is really good. 1080 is enough and I have to try really hard to see the difference between fhd and qhd. This is my first IPS LCD phone all others have been amoleds and I am pleased to say that the display on N5X is really subtle on the eyes.
4) Camera is very good, almost close to the s6. The cam app is not that great but I am using manual camera so it dont matter.
5) BATTERY LIFE! N5X only loses 1% charge over night. Doze is just amazing. I am almost getting 6 to 6.5 hrs of SOT over a 1.5 to 2 days of usage. I'm pretty sure I can push it to 8hrs of SOT.
6) Fingerprint scanner is faster than the S6. and the positioning is more natural.
7) The front speaker is really good. I can hold the phone without worrying about blocking the speaker.
8) Fast charging is pretty much the same as S6.
9) Earpiece quality and clarity are 2x better than the one on S6 imo.
10) The phone does not throttle or heat up even on heavy use. SD 808 is just working fine.
So if you are planning to move on to 5X or 6P, I would say go for it.
P.S. I am not here to badmouth our beloved S6. I love the phone, but the software just doesn't live up. Stock android is 100% better than touchwiz when user experience is concerned.
Are your comparisons based on the s6 on lollipop or marshmallow? Cos a lot of the things have improved a hell of a lot on marshmallow for s6 and that's just beta and not final version. The 6p yes, 5x nahh
No front physical home button, no care.
I had a N4 and N7 (2012 & 2013). Meh.
Wider, taller and thicker. The 2 extra mm in width is especially noticeable in the hand--at least it was when I held it. The S6 is pretty much the limit for me in terms of size. But the worst thing about the NX5 is onboard memory. 32g max. That is the ultimate deal breaker. I keep a lot of music on my phone and like to store locally whatever movies I buy from the Play store or videos I watch from Amazon Prime so I don't need a connection to watch. Plus, it drains far less battery than streaming. A 10-episode series on Prime is like 11g by itself. Come on, get with the times and at least provide the option of 64g model.

Moral of the story: Don't buy a Samsung product (especially with an Exynos SoC) unless you're willing to live with TW. Things have changed since 2012.

I wish we had codeworkx working on S6. Samsung is being a real pain in the a s s. I do understand that their code has some really vital info that could help it's competitors but they can at least provide the basic documentation for the exynos soc.

That makes no business sense. Probably fewer than a few percent of users want to flash custom ROMs, and encouraging them to do so by releasing full sources only increases costly warranty claims. They've totally snubbed the development community, so it's time for us to either be content with TW or move on, IMO.

You guys over exagerate quite alot..stock rom especially with marshmallow is fast and smooth...im getting between 5.30-6 hours sot...
Nexus 5x is a inferior product compared to the s6...even the nexus 6p is not on par with the s6...the only one which is going to be worth getting in my opinion is the upcoming s7..and im going to get the s7 exynos variant not the snapdragon one.. simply because it will be faster.

I never said that S6 was a slow phone. It's about what's opensource and what's not. Touchwiz on the S6 is the best I've seen on a samsung device. But the way samsung heavily modifies aosp and does not tell us is very unfair. Look at sony, they got their custom timescape UI, but still they support AOSP and provide the right sources.

not happening in 3-4months,i think we can expect first stable build(with few bugs) in late 2016
the devs are doing it for fun, they can stop developing whenever they feel like and like OP said no "maintainer" so we cant expect a totally stable build
i wish samsung makes marshmallow tw as good as stock

by 3-4 months google will announce Android N release. Then there will be another reason to wait for samsung to release some source.
If you want development, the S6 shouldn't even be in contention. We buy the S6 for premium build and the built in tech like fprint scanner, IR Blaster, Heart Rate Monitor and crazy gorgeous screen.
Even with that ****ty CM, half the tech built in will not work properly so why buy the S6 hoping for CM?

The funny thing is... You sent this from an Iphone.
To the OP, any issues with the reported lag on the 5x? I'm looking elsewhere from my s6 because even on that "premium" phone, I get lag opening hangouts and even at times typing. I never had any problems on my previous original nexus 5.
I'm really stuck in this same move myself. I bought a s6 when my nexus 5died because it was the best hardware around. Little did I know that the monster of a processor would be gimped by poor ram management. I bought a 5x during the holidays and I really enjoy the stock Android and solid battery life.
Then they came out with the marshmallow beta and fixed most of my reservations - ran management, keyboard killing, fingerprint sensor speed, and standby drain. The mm build is competitive in enjoyment, at least until the next nexus comes out.

Hardcore nexus and flashaholic user here since g1days. S6 is my first samsung. I had nexus 4, nexus 5, OPO, Nexus 6 most recently. 6 was nice but too bulky.
I'm really enjoying the stock samsung experience. Getting 4.5 hours SOT. Fast charge is super nice and I love spay and ir blaster remote. I run action launcher. I'm officially a reformed flashaholic.
Camera on this phone is excellent.

I'm flasholic since i9000/9003. Last hardware running on cm was klte. Really like the layer theme and so on but after using new tw on s6, my bad behaviour gone slowly. And after trying beta 6.0 tw I send the resignation letter to bug hunter division. I guess I already too old for bug fighting.

I have a s6 and just bought a nexus 6 , thats a great phone and cheaper than the 5x , keeping both , as they both have thier plus and minus , use my s6 with the gear vr and that is cool to watch movies , so plan to keep the s6 after the s7 is out for the vr side.

Hi guyz, soon i am going to buy a new phone but i am confused between Note 4 and G4. So which is better ?
I'm only gonna go with note 4 just down to fact I got one.
Well i've had a couple LG's smartphones before. They are.. just plain good, also my gf has a lg g3 and to tell you the truth.. is sucks. It is built from kinda cheap materials and its screen looks like the colors are washed out totally. Frankly i haven't get in my hands the LG G4 yet, so i can't tell much. Go for the note 4 and you won't be disappointed. It's a beast smartphone and you will puking rainbows from your mouth when you see its awesome screen

Meh, you should be ashamed of yourself for putting Note 4 in the same sentence with G4. No, I am not exaggerating anything.
I've had a Note 4 since December '14, I also recently bought a G3 to use as a media player; I didn't get a G4 simply because they are almost identical (in my limited opinion), the Note 4 is an absolute MONSTER, even with the crappy TouchWiz on top of it. Just my two cents buddy.
A reason to note get the LG G4: bootloop issues.Google it, its a hardware defect admitted by LG
Tbh the only thing makes G4 better than Note 4 is the camera. Everything else is just so much better on the Note 4.
Go for Note 4, for sure it is better.
specially battery life & the stylus.
Hey guys.
I have the Galaxy S6 and I'm wondering if it is worth to upgrade from S6 to S8.
I've been using the S6 for quite some time, and now they launched Android Nougat (7.0) to the Galaxy S6, which I am currently using the official version.
But, I am wondering if I should upgrade to the Galaxy S8 (Non Plus) variant.
I'm in love with s8's screen.
If you can, please post a "reason" why I should or not be upgrading.
Thanks!

Better SOC, better graphics, better screen, more ram, more memory 64gb, sd card, better battery, better camera front and back, usb C, better performance overall......BUT if you didn't see all this already and you're still in doubt, might be that it doesn't worth the upgrade for you.
I did this. Battery almost 2x, Speed great, too.

As the title says I upgraded from the s6 edge and let me tell you it is worth the upgrade! :good:
Not least of all the S8 is waterproof, having paid £250 to repair a water damaged s6 edge last year i think its worth upgrading for this reason alone.
I like the fact the finger print scanner is on the back - it never made sense to me that it was on the front in the first place.
Face unlocker is fast to react.
And I am just chumping at the bit to get a DEX like dock (however at this point not willing to pay £110 for it).
Interesting comments.
I am really tempted into upgrading it. Since my S6 sometimes struggle when I'm scrolling on Chrome or Facebook, and I'm too far down.
I think it is time for that upgrade!
Is the battery really enough? I mean.. 3000 mAH on the S8.

Battery life has been a mixed bag for me - I'm not quite seeing as good a result as I've seen many post but it's likely due to varying conditions. It definitely gets better life than my S6 - I wouldn't make it to Noon with that and I start my day, off the charger at 430am. With the S8, I get through the entire day, no problem but might need a hit from the fast charger if I do some browsing after dinner...

Well you can upgrade but i recommend waiting for another phone with the same SOC...
My dad bought the S8 and is pretty meh...Narrow design, same screen as the s6 just bigger and slightly higher res which makes it looks strange...camera is the same as an S6 on good light conditions and slightly better on dark conditions...Figerprint positioning is absurd...Battery is not that good...SOC is newer but you wont notice any difference unless you try hard...And the price is way too high for whats is worth...
I dont want to start a new thread but i am wondering the same but i am coming from a oneplus one.. again is their any bonus in upgrading.. and how is development for samsung devices
i went from s6 edge + to s8. Very happy so far. the form factor fits better in the hand, software is fine. I like the back being glass. good feel overall.
A BIG YES. I upgrade from a s7 edge and to me it was so worth it
If you like the S6 and want to stay with Samsung, I'd say yes. Otherwise, I'd say wait until more info is available on the Google Pixel 2.
It's such a large upgrade from the S6 it's silly to even have to talk about all the reasons why. For comparison, the S8+ made the S7 Edge seem very dated. There is no comparison, unless you like old, slow phones with far inferior displays, memory size, camera..... I could go on. Not even in the same ballpark. By far the best phone made to date - S8/S8+. That changes every 6 months or so with a new phone taking the crown, but right now this is the top dog.
Agree, S8&S8+ are top-of-the-foodchain!
How are the lags on the S8? Because on the S6 when I'm scrolling in chrome or facebook I get lags. Usual android thing. That's what making me wonder if I should wait iphone 8 or get the galaxy s8. Btw, I don't plan going to Google Pixel 2 because I like the Samsung devices. I've always had Samsung phones. Tried Nexus once but I'm not a fan of stock android.
Upgraded today to the Grey/silver version from S6.
Ordered awesome spigen case too.
Role on Friday.

Zero lag in anything I have done on my S8+. Smoothest, fastest phone I have ever used.
I went from s6 Edge to S8. I think it's worth it. The battery is much better. Bigger screen, not as wide so easier to hold. It's pretty better all around. If you got nougat on your s6 then the software experience will not feel drastically different. Haven't really tested the camera head to head yet.

I have to disagree with you on a few points:
"far inferior displays" - Just because the S8 has a more futuristic look with its smaller bezels and increased height over the S6 I don't see it being fair to consider the S6 to be far inferior. The S6 featured an incredible screen at its time, and compared to alot of flagships out there it still is an amazing screen anno 2017! (pixeldensity is still better on the S6 vs the S8 by the way)
"memory size" - Just because the S8 features 1GB more, it does not mean that you actually use it. Just because it looks better on paper does not make it essential in daily usage. 4GB future proof? Yes! Absolutely necessary at this moment? Probably not.
"camera" - If you are talking about the front facing camera, then yes probably you are right. The rear camera however is only marginaly improved over the S6.
Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that the S8 beats the S6 in all of those points, but I think its actual difference in daily usage is to be argued whether the TS needs to upgrade or not
From S6 Edge to S8 is a perfect upgrade at all levels. I gave S6 to dad and I am using S8
Hi am looking at getting one of these 2 phones. Now on paper they look the same and so performance should be the same. However having checked out some reviews on YouTube, this isn't the case. Has anyone used both and can you please comment on which is best performance wise please?
There is a small difference between exynos and snapdragon. For the rest they are equally fast.
So get the one that fits your hand.
Verstuurd vanaf mijn SM-G955F met Tapatalk
They're the same phone. Get the one that feels better. I loved the + but ended up getting the S8 cause it fits my hands better in daily use.
I've owned both of them, I bought the S8 just to test it, both are the same phones, no difference at all in performance or anything than display size and battery , I stay with the s8 + because I kove big sized displays. Battery is almost the same with both. Only a little 2-5% difference in battery life almost unnoticeable.
Many thanks all. I think I will go with the s8 as I need something small. Was only worried that the s8 plus would have some advantage over performance but as it's not the case will go regular s8.
