I have a Galaxy S5 Edge Plus - Chinese / Tiwanese version: G9287. I have just updated it to the most up-to-date firmware: (G9287ZHU2APA1_G9287ZZH2APA1_G9287ZHU2APA1_HOME.tar.md5)
On the previous firmware I rooted the phone using Arter Kernel for g928fcig , using Philz custom rec, which worked fine. With the new firmware I cannot find any way to root the phone. I must have tried about 30 times with a variety of methods and orders but it always get stuck in bootloop so I reflash the stock firmware and stick with it. There's a line in the James song - Oh Sit Down: "If I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor". Life just isn't the same with a non-rooted phone. Can anyone shed any light please? I've tried every root method I can see that's out there - all the obvious ones, incl. KingRoot, arter97 v11, CF Auto-Root, AudaxPlus, S6 Unikernel, OH2_DrKetan, SkyHigh_TW_v4.5.
The only thing that does seem to work is I can get TWRP 3 to load through ODIN, but once I load it and come out again the phone bootloops.
Have you tried flashing an early bootloader like G9287ZHU2AOJ6_sboot.tar
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B62RcNtcpgmpSUk3Mmk0dnNjYnM/view?usp=sharing
That did the trick. Thank you! Much appreciated. I reflashed arter97, superuser through recovery and all is well in the world again. Will keep my eye out for when the more up-to-date firmware is rootable.

Hello, I just rolled the dice and discovered cf autoroot for the 9505 does work for the Japanese DoCoMo Galaxy S4 (SC-04E). would this mean the recoveries are also the same. I wan to pull the radio and help out with your thread. Ive had several android devices(desire, desire HD, GS3; which was a bit of a support nightmare because it was so unlike other GS3s. on the other hand the HTCs were easy and all I had to do was maintain my japanese radio) so im not new to rooting. But Noone that ive seen has tried a recovery and the firmware is not yet on sammobile. think I should wait a bit or what steps should I take to attempt to install a recovery without bricking. will it just reject it or is there a potential for a brick? Hell i may be the first to attempt root that phone just came out yesterday. after toying around it appears to be a partial root, some apps requiring root access work, and some dont. also the stock recovery and NFC are dead. Ill hold off until the stock image gets posted on sammobile
baseband: SC04EOMUAMDI

Thanks in advance for the help, hopefully we can figure this out.
Currently my Verizon Note 3 is stuck in a boot loop and I can't get out of it. I have tried all the methods that I have found on here including wiping data/ factory reset and trying to go back to a stock firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483380). Anyways, I got myself into this problem, I wasn't thinking straight... Basically I flashed my N3 from 4.3 using safestrap to JasmineRom 5.0. After that I updated to JasmineRom 5.0.2 doing a dirty flash over the 5.0 with FlashFire (http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/paid-software/flashfire-t3075433). I was surprised how easy it was actually, I have been on a rooted stock firmware since day 1. After everything was running fine, I had the brilliant idea of using FlashFire to install the Lollipop Xposed Framework (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811). This is where the boot loop happened and is happening. Everything I try doesn't seem to work... I was looking into trying to convert a zip to a tar so I can use Odin to re-flash on JasmineRom, but I have had no luck, I get a "Unsupport Dev_Type" error in my Recovery. I am not sure what to do or try, any help would be appreciated.
note: I read the known issue with Lollipop's Xposed Framework install and thought that I was on a custom Samsung Rom and shouldn't have problem?
Also, I can't role back to a previous firmware through Odin because I am upgraded to 5.0 and can't re-install JasmineRom because I am stuck in the boot loop (at least I think so).
I hope someone can help. I stupidly did the samething last night to mine. after it was running so well. I jsut wanted to theme out the damn ugly green in notifications
Well looks like I have phone running again but I had to run stock so no more root for me. Very upset. I want to buy either another used note 3 that still can run this rom or maybe find a note4 reasonably priced. NOT a POS clone.
but runing odin with the 5.0 android file it restored but would not allow 4.4.2 or
4.4.4

I did the same and updated to 5.0 with Verizon through Odin. It fixed it but just lost my root privilege as well... Atm I am glad to have a working phone. I found an error that told me my current software level when I was stuck (5.0.2) and the reason for the error (attempting to downgrad). Looks like Samsung is blocking downgrades.. That is why it wouldn't restore any lower .. Just gotta hope that a 5.0 root comes out.
You should use the dedication Verizon Note forum .
Glad you have your working again as well. I believe verizon is doing this not samsung. VZW does not want us in control of what we put on our phones or more yet what we can do with them without paying extra fees.
I just got the Verizon variant of the Galaxy S5 (SM-G900V). I rooted it very easily using odin without tripping knox; that was easy.
I then began looking for ROMs; which for this phone, isn't easy with the locked bootloaders.
I came across a custom ROM, forgot off the top of my head but may go back to retry loading it.
Because these devices have locked bootloaders, any ROM flashed to it will need to have a separate bootloader flashed as well. The aforementioned ROM had one and I understood why, but after I odin flashed the new bootloader, i kept getting a black screen. OK no biggie, factory flash, re-root look for another ROM, except this time, I'm looking for a pre -rooted factory ROM. I came across a lollipop one, 0A8, was hoping for 0G5, but will deal with that later. Of course the ROM had to have, I guess for lack of a better word, a custom bootloader, or index, to tell the phone it's okay to use this software right? So now have lollipop, but have lost TWRP on boot. I'm not sure as to why this has happened, but it's a real pain I want to install and use ROMs on this phone. If I need to downgrade to have TWRP, that's no big deal. So here I am a lollipop stock ROM, rooted wihout TWRP, ugh.
Is there anyone who can help me find a solution to this, it's driving me mad. I just want to have a recovery installed and the klte version won't install. It must be a lollipop thing, but I would love to have cm12.1 when it comes out. And why does this stupid script keep popping up while I'm trying to type this. Just thought I'd share my frustrations or see if there is a way to get TWRP on lollipop?
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
Welcome to XDA.
To better assist you, your thread will be moved to your device Q&A forum linked below.

The experts there may be able to help. Good luck.
U cannot load into twrp or safestrap above the n12 kernal.
If you want to access your recovery, you could try loading the n12 kernal via odin. Then use your recovery. Then reflash the right kernal for your rom via Odin to return to loading status.
That's what I hear is possible- you sound like you can rebuild if u get in trouble.
As for CM - we don't have an unlocked bootloader so that's unfortunately killing it at this time. We are stuck on stock rooted TW roms, or slight variations of TW roms.

So I have a Note 4 SM-N910G Variant Currently running 5.1.1 Lollipop and I'm looking forward to root it since my warranty is over. (Snapdragon) I want to flash dr.ketan's rom ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/n910g-dr-ketan-custom-rom-t2928568 ) but obviously I need to root my phone first.
I have researched through many youtube videos and website for Rooting and to my understanding, I need to download a kernel and flash a recovery called TWRP, flash SuperSU and then flash the ROM itself.
But so far, All I could find were kernels for other variants except N910G, some of them said that I can use the kernel for N910F ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/orig-development/tw-kernel-emotroid-team-t2990557 )
Can someone help me? And correct me if my understanding of the root procedure is wrong.
Really really really appreciated If you can help me
I tried to flash a kernal for SM-N910F 5.1.1 on my SM-N910G and it stopped my phone from booting (soft brick, got stuck on the first Samsung splash screen). I'm fairly certain that I did it correctly but I am new to Android so it might have been my mistake. I did get my phone working again by downloading the vanilla 5.1.1 SM-N910G firmware using SamFirm and installing it via Odin.
EDIT: I have successfully rooted my device using Noname Kernal http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63217526
Hello,
I am currently on
Android Version 4.4.2
Build KOT49H.T530NUUEU1ANK1
Kernel Version 3.4.0-2648317
I got here by performing a complete wipe, then using the thread here by thisisapoorusernamechoice to find the file. I used Odin 10.1 to get the download to the tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 wifi from Costco, also called matisse).
I then flashed TWRP 3.0, then flashed the CF Autoroot and SU to gain root.
Since, then, I tried to install a ROM (Dirty Unicorns Matisse) unsuccessfully. I didnt get past the Samsung Logo. It froze.
I have not found by searching and reading the forum, a well-replicated method to get to Marshmallow.
What is the best way to get to a stable version of Marshmallow and retain root?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

To get MM or another rom based CM 12-13 you need at first update your stock firmware to 5.02 OS (for example via Odin). Then again get TWRP, root and backup your firmware. And only after this you can install DU rom successfully.
