I feel like a noob asking this about the 4th Galaxy phone I've had, but where did the app info on ram usage get moved to? I'm talking about where you used to be able to go into app manager and slide over to the tab called "running" and see how much ram each app is using.
I thought this info might be in a stock app like Smart Manager (name?) because I thought I saw it there on the one on display at Best Buy, but I don't seem to have that app on my AT&T variant either.
Thanks for any help.

But I don't seem to have Smart Manager either. Where are you finding that? I searched the settings and looked through the whole list of apps. Are you on AT&T?
Enabled developer options and you'll see the old running services screen in there. It moved there on Nexus phones with 6.0 too.
Did anyone with AT&T find smart manager?

On the nexus forum, there is a thread about porting the phone, dialer, and notification bar from the original galaxy s build.
The screen shots and discussion can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717914
I found another link http://forum.samdroid.net/f10/galaxy-s-apks-1387/ which has a download link to download all the apk's from the I9000 build
Since those apk's are coming from another galaxy do they have to be de-odexed? or can I just use adb to copy the phone and dialer apk onto my vibrant?
wow n1 users are jocking galaxy s. they should just converto galaxy s. they should know by now galaxy s is the superior of all andriod at this moment.
Swiping left or right to call and send sms from contacts is also kick ass
i like my Vibrants version better
I love the phone app from the vibrant i am giving up adressbook for it if i could i would install it on my g1 that went to a family member when i got my vibrant

Probably have to be de-odexed. But why would you want to go through the trouble porting that? Its almost identical to the vibrant except for a couple small things.

Why is someone trying to "sell me" this app in an unrelated dead thread? O-o I am confused.
I am on the fence about getting Tasker. I wanted to automate Wifi and notification sounds turning off/on and was going to get Tasker, but I found an app called Timeriffic and it does a good job. But I still like the level of customization afforded by Tasker.
MY question is this - if anyone has been using it on their G2 for a while, have you noticed any performance degradation? Also, noob question - what happens when you get an update or something? Do you have to pay again?
1. I've been using it for 2 weeks and I haven't noticed a drop a performance but I huge jump in efficiency
2. If there is an update you will not have to pay for the application again and all the profiles you have created will still be there.
Its definetly one of my favorite apps, I use it all the time. Once you buy it from the market updates are free, and it does not slow down your phone.

Thanks, guys. I think I'll go ahead and get it.

I've been using it since the first week it came out. I have no problems with it. Definitely one of my top-5 apps.
I've been using Tasker for two weeks now. I really like it and have noticed very little performance drop, if any. Buy it directly from their website and it's a few dollars cheaper than the Android Market. The program will check for updates itself every so often.
Make sure to read the Wiki; there are some good profiles on there.
Like the one that texts you back with a Google Maps link to where your phone is located. Was able to get rid of those crappy lost phone programs.

Woohoo!
It's my first "official" android phone, and it's my first phone with a data plan.
Any tips or suggestions for me?
Get a widget that will track how much data you use so you won't go over.
Get a lot of applications that are awesome and customize the phone; make it yours.
Get aa launcher off of the marketplace.
Never ever install a task killer....

why? I kill everything almost every 5 minutes, and all it does is free up RAM...
Because people new to android don't realize certain tasks need to run in order for the phone to function properly.

I got the 2GB plan for the first month, just in case. I'll be tracking my usage anyway. Any tips on which tracking app works better?
I will be customizing the phone soon. Once I learn about deodexing and whatnot, I'll run designgears' ROM.

It would save battery too, since it clears background processes.
3G Watchdog works well to track your data and also includes a handy widget. Congrats on the Atrix it's a fine phone.

1) clearing the ram is doing nothing for you, especially with a gig of it. ANDROID itself will handle processes and memory management better than any task killer will.
2) most likely its hurting your battery and not helping it. Just like whoever a few posts up said -"I kill everything running every 5 minutes and all it does is free up ram"
Most of the stuff your killing is just starting itself back up, this uses cpu, and its killing the battery.
Why do you think your killing stuff so often.
You can tweak the way android does this in the kernels lowmemorykiller. Obviously this is not an option to mess with in the kernel on the atrix due to the bootloader.
You guys /may/ be able to change the minfree setting in runtime to tell android to more or less aggressively kill off background apps/processes depending on how much free ram is available. This is a MUCH better/more efficient option than a task killer.
Im not really interested enough to mess with it, but it may be worth looking into, but then again maybe not with a gig of ram.

You could've said- task killers sometimes kill tasks that are necessary for the functioning of the phone.

The name 4G is not entirely accurate... You are still on 3G, but with a enhanced backhaul. LTE will be true 4G.
None the less I hope u enjoy the Atrix.

Well they're all pretty accurate from what I have seen; data usage widget is a good free one that shows data and wifi in one widget.
You can configure for the day, week, month,or what I always use, month from a specific date to match your billing date.
Anyone have any tips that I could use to make my Android/Atrix experience better.
Any tips?
*Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
Oh sorry, didn't see it. Don't need to swear at me.
Here is my tip from my shallow experience with the phone and android.
1. do factory reset after your phone has been fully charged to 100% for 4hours-ish while its turned off
2. get before update root
3. update to 1.57
4. do the post update root
5. get titanium backup pro and go to the freeze the applications under the safelist.
6. get an launcher (I bought launcherpro plus, but i think just launcherpro is just as good... because the only major perks i've noticed was the launcherpro widgets and widget resizing)
7. freeze the motoblur home(after installing another launcher like lpp)
8. download screengrabber app (it works on rooted phone and I like using it, you may not need a screen capture program)
9. do the webtop mod if you want to try it. you need android sdk first to do adb commands. (I tried it to see how lapdock would feel like and I found it pretty good)
I love launcher pro, as it looks so nice!!! 3d app drawer and home screen flipping animations, and overall so many settings you can customize. (# of app row, column etc)

Haven't used the phone, but just look around under the forums and find some guides. Atleast you will be able to find a guide to root it and such which will make life much better and more open for improvement best of luck.

That was pretty pointless...
no need to cuss...
I was in the same boat as the OP and it was hard for me to search through the massive massive amount of info on this forum.
No need to be so hostile... There has been alot of hate on the forum lately. I know it gets annoying when the new users start asking questions that can be found by searching. But, you have two sensible choices: 1. give them some tips so they know what to search for, or 2. don't reply to thread and let the thread die off...
Dude, You better calm down! I just got banned a couple days for fighting with somebody and cursing and you have a ****load of posts just like this! I had 2 posts then banned! You've been lucky so far but all someones gotta do is report you and then here comes the ban hammer!
No ones even starting with you! This guy just asked a question! Calm down!
if you dont need stuff like email, calendar and contacts updated to the minute its a good idea to disable this feature in settings and with titanium backup. theres a big thread in the dev section about what apps from att that are safe to freeze with titanium. this alone will significantly increase your battery life.

and if you're feeling real brave??.... You could root the **** out of it and flash gingerblur or gladiatrix or the newest rom greyblur!! Im about to flash greyblur right now!
If you want a gingerbead look to your phone, as well as getting rid of the hideous white notification bar, you should try out GingerBlur, a pseudo-rom for the Atrix.
GrayBlur has also been released, which I'll be trying out shortly.
Get a launcher. If you have the money (15$) I would buy SPB Shell. That is one amazing launcher. Or just get one of the many others like ADW, Launcher Pro, Go Launcher, etc.
If you want to tether (data plan required), go to the dev section to get the tethering APN for mobile hotspot.
Install Tenfar's custom bootstrap recovery. Allows you to flash ROMs.
Install the Amazon App market. A free paid app a day (games too).
And last but not least: check out the themes section. Lots of cool themes and boot images.

You'll have to side load it. you can enable that by running glad root.
Then, download the apk from amazon, put it on your phone, and install
Definitely worth it

Yeah as long as you reinstall amazon appstore all the time with it and I was reading that the appstore is kind of a form of spyware and require too much info from the user.
Uninstall appstore and you'll see. I had angry birds rio and a few others for free. I uninstalled the appstore and then my apps just stopped working! I heard this would happen but didnt believe it! But it is 100% true! Which like I said sucks!
How do I disable MotoBlur using TiBu?
Never live in the past but always learn from it.
Get GO Launcher EX. It's so much smoother than stock, you'll love it. I just returned to it after using LauncherPro Plus for a few weeks. Features on LauncherPro are great, but it had some stability issues for me, and GO Launcher is MUCH smoother and consistent for me. There are a lot of themes for it as well.
